Bug-Report: Hyper-V - VM shutdown process hangs after unmount ISO file on host computer
Hello Microsoft team,
my HYPER-V VM hangs after I did follow things:
First I mount an ISO file into my Windows 8.1 Enterprise host (e.g. drive letter X:)
Now I mount X: into my VM (gen. 1)
Then I lost connection to X: on my host (e.g. unmount X: on my host computer)
Now when I shutdown my VM, it will be hangs.
I reproduced this on three computers with windows 8.1.
Thanks for help and feedback,
Gunnar
Hello Gunnar,
What do you mean about the sentence ‘mount X: into my VM (gen. 1)’?
If I mount the Windows 8.1 ISO to drive H:, and then try to install the VM gen 1, it has no issues.
If I just install the VM gen1 by using the Windows 8.1 ISO that have been mounted to drive H:, I still can’t find the issue.
Best regards,
Fangzhou CHEN

I've recorded a tiny screen video to show this bug:
Please note, that printer window error 6000 is as expected (since I don't actually need to print this stuff).I have a little speculation about this. Maybe...
I speculate that Acrobat will offer "convert to Adobe PDF" for any file where it finds a "print" verb available in the Windows shell. Acrobat assumes it can to a ShellExecute printto Adobe PDF. (It works for files you can drag to a specific nondefault printer in the printers control panel).
So, Acrobat doesn't understand PSD files and Photoshop doesn't know anything about Acrobat (though it can of course save as PDF, no connection to this). But because Photoshop offers a service to Windows, and Acrobat tries to use that service unsuccessfully, we end up with this mess.
So, Acrobat may offer conversion for whole classes of file which are quite surprising; and it won't always work (generally for a whole class of file).
End of speculation. -
10.6.7 - Boot process hangs after update
Hi,
after upgrading to 10.6.7, the boot process gets stuck somehow. Booting in verbose mode shows nothing unusual. The last message printed is:
"launchctl: Please convert the following to launchd: /etc/mach_init.d/dashboardadvisoryd.plist".
Any ideas what is going on here?Hi,
yes, this did the trick. I took a while but the system came up correctly.
Thanks! -
[solved] pacman 4 hangs after "checking for file conflicts"
Like others, I removed yaourt and package-query because they conflicted with pacman4... not worried about that, I'll reinstall them later.
I put the new pacman.conf in place (my old one wasn't really customized). I left SigLevel = Never.
Now, I can run pacman -Sy fine, but if I try to install anything, I it just hangs:

I am trying to view and edit PDF documents but Adobe freezes and I have to exit. I have been using the software for over a year with no issues. It is a subscriber version of Adobe Acrobat Pro XI.
Rebooting my computer has not helped. This has been happening for over a week.
How do I remove/ re-install the software. Windows 8.1 user.
Thanks in advance.Hi kevind45759405,
Since you are an annual subscriber of Acrobat XI, you are eligible to install the latest version of this software i.e. Acrobat DC that has been launched today.
You can simply install it from the Creative Cloud desktop application and activate it with your same Adobe credentials.
Let me know how it goes.

[solved] "pacman -Syu" hangs after "checking for file conflicts"
This is my third attempt. I let it run yesterday for 20 hours on the theory that maybe it was actually doing something. It always completes "checking for file conflicts" but never goes any further.
Does anyone have any suggestions how to get it to continue?

Disk space? I think I have enough disk space.

WebLogic hangs around after shutdown process appears to complete - Message Driven Bean related
On my current project we have some Ant scripts that automatically
start and stop WebLogic. The stop script equates to (not exactly but
close enough):
java weblogic.Admin -url localhost:8001 -password password -username
username SHUTDOWN
WebLogic is start and shutdown for each system module. All modules
use the exact same script for these two actions. Some of the modules
use Message Driven Beans and consequently, since these use JMS, a
JMSxxx.dat file is generated in the jms_store directory. As part of
the cleanup process the jms_store directory and all files in it are to
be deleted AFTER WebLogic shuts down.
The shutdown process works fine in all cases where JMS is not used and
in all cases where JMS IS used but there are NO message driven beans.
However, when there is a message driven bean the server does not shut
down in a timely manner, sometimes not at all (no error messages are
produced), and the JMSxx.dat file
remains locked. Consequently, all of the tests run via the ant script
for modules come to a grinding halt (i.e. environment could not be
cleaned so further tests would be skewed).
Can anyone shed some light on a definitive order of events during
WebLogic's shutdown process? What is the best way to test for the
server being up? I know there is a ping utility for weblogic - should
this be used or should a connection to a JNDI or JMS listening port do
the trick? Any other ideas would be welcome.
Thanks in advance,

Solaris 9 x86 bug report - el_GR.ISO8859-7 & CDE
I'm posting this article here, because I can't find any official Solaris 9 x86 bug report page. I hope the developers will notice it. I'm using Solaris 9 x86 (12/02), with the latest 9_x86_Recommended patch cluster installed, and support for Greek installed too.
It seems there is some kind of problem, when trying to view text files with Greek (el_GR.ISO8859-7) characters, which were created under Windows. To be more specific:
If I boot at CDE with language el_GR.ISO8859-7, and try to view a .txt file (just with a simple double click), which I have created under Windows, with Greek characters,

no problems. If I try "command line logging", the screen goes off - just like when the computer is powered off, and I can't do anything, (well, except pressing the reset button, that's the sure way). And if I use the "init 6" command, while being logged at CDE, from a terminal, the Graphical Desktop exits, and then, the screen goes off again (just like the computer is powered off), but finally the computer manages to restart.

[email protected]I'm posting this article here, because I can't find any official Solaris 9 x86 bug report page.
If I boot at CDE with language el_GR.ISO8859-7, and try to view a .txt file (just with a simple double click), which I have created under Windows, with Greek characters,
the screen goes black, and the CDE login screen appears again (restarts). If I keep the Greek language or change the language to US English, I can boot at CDE again, with

10.6 and this is still this is a problem?!?!?!?!
Not like this is an obscure issue only affecting a few noobs. Google returns 11,200 results on this issue!t'
Can we PLEASE at least allow the list of broken files to be dumped as a text file so I can find them manually! guess not,
I'll just have to get out a pencil and write down 100 songs to spend my saturday looking up and fixing. Or I could let my wife purchase 100 songs she already has whenever this comes up...
What's really infurating is that non-technical wife thinks this means she must go to the iTunes store and buy them again. Is it just coincidence that this only happens to songs that we ripped from the CD with iTunes? Hmmmm?....
what follows is for the programmers, please make sure this get's to the development group.
iTunes is the only music library manager, Media player was not even activated.
iTunes is configured to "Keep folder organized", "Copy files to folder when adding"
this has been a recurring issue since iTunes 9.x for us
The issue is persisted accross system and library rebuilds.
some of the same songs recurr but most of the time the list differs.
Library survived transfer to new computer and back for a system rebuild (new hdd) w/o this issue.
I'm guessing 100 songs is an arbitrary limit for error reporting.
Songs seem to get lost for the following reasons.
Track number added to filename
Spelling of some tags like Album, Artist, Title differ in iTunes library and the file path !!!!
Only seems to happen to mp3 files.
My suspicion is that iTunes is downloading meta data from the store and updating the mp3 tags and iTunes Music Library.xml then predicting the new file location without actually moving the file to that new location. I've enabled insert/update auditing on the NTFS folder to see if that provided any new info. I'm also capturing iTunes Music Library.xml so I can compare it to the new one WHEN this happens again and see if there is a pattern there.
Would love a bug number and feedback chanel on this. The missing file thing happens when files are no longer where iTunes expects to find them. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the files, or that the drive they live on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout, or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files in a relatively sensible structure, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .
Although you say you haven't used Media Player it can be raised as a background process by visiting enabled web sites. Possibly worth you reviewing this post: Getting iTunes & Windows Media Player to play nicely

Unlike Windows Media player iTunes doesn't have a feature to automatically update tag data, although it will sometimes spot when a 3rd party program has (say during playback) and then update its own copy of the data. The iTunes (Music) Library xml file is provided for querying by third party software and is rewritten every time there is a change to the library, but is otherwise of no relevance to iTunes. The library is maintained in the iTunes Library.itl file. I suppose what could be happening is that iTunes issues a command to the file system to move a file based upon its tag, updates its knowledge of where the file is supposed to be, but the OS fails to move the file for some reason. Alternatively everything could go as planned, but iTunes could fail to get the updated copy of the library written out to disk so next time you start you get the previously stored locations.
I have ideas of my own about the best way to organise my media, but I'm quite familiar with the way iTunes does it. It might be interesting to see the details of one of the broken tracks, the path iTunes thinks it is at, and the actual path, in case there is anything that can be deduced.
Apple don't run an open bug tracking system so you won't be able to follow reports/progress based on a bug number. You can drop a line to iTunes Feedback or get a free Apple Developer account and submit a bug report report there.

Can't find a place to submit a bug report. So here goes.
Full Error Message:
Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory.
Problem Occurs:
Windows 8.0 x64
Vmware Player 6.0.1 build-1379776
Problem:
A USB keyboard ceases to function on the host operating system following the first host OS reboot after installing 6.0.1 on Windows 8.0. This issue does not occur with 6.0.0. The issue disappears upon uninstalling Player 6.0.1. Reinstallation allows Player to operate as expected, but issue re-appears after host OS reboot.
The issue happens immediately after host OS loads, and continues irrespective of whether VMWare Player is launched.
Looking at the keyboard drivers, the usb keyboard's driver has not loaded (see attached images). The built-in keyboard driver however reports no errors and continues to operate as usual.
Changing the USB keyboard device to that of a different manufacturer does not resolve the issue. Any USB keyboard driver appears to fail.
Work Around:
1) Launch msconfig
2) Disable VMWare USB arbitration service
3) Reboot
4) USB Keyboard works. VMWare Player continues to operate as normal, minus the ability to mount USB storage devices on the guest OS.This issue was fixed on my PC as follows.
1) Taking ownership of the above usb*.sys files in the drivers folder
2) renaming them to usb*.sysold
3) Using Device Manager to uninstall all USB devices with the yellow warning ! next to them
4) Doing a Scan for Hardware changes via the Device Manager toolbar and then waiting a few moments whilst the USB devices are re-installed with signed drivers.
Hope this helps you....

Acrobat X Scanning Cancelled Problem / WORKAROUND / BUG REPORT
As you have read in other threads, Acrobat X on Windows has a serious scanning problem with HP and possibly other scanners.
Whereas in Acrobat 9 scanning worked reasonably well, Acrobat X seems to be unable to cope with scanning documents from the flat bed of a multifunction scanner.
So, if you are scanning from the feeder, scanning works, but if you are scanning from the flatbed, you will get a brief pause and the phrase SCANNING CANCELLED.
This is, of course, not acceptable.
The problem is that Acrobat X does not play nicely with the scanner drivers. Previously, Acrobat 9 would "auto-detect" the source of a document, using the feeder if loaded, and "falling back" to the flatbed otherwise. However, Acrobat X does not fall back. If there is nothing loaded in the document feeder, the scan will be cancelled by Acrobat X.
The workaround - and I would NOT call this a "solution" - is to use only the "Custom Scan" command from Acrobat X. When the window pops up, choose the "Options" button and select "Native Mode" and "Show Scanner's Native Interface" from the two menus. (Acrobat X does seem to remember these settings at least within a session, so if you're scanning multiple documents you only need to do this once.) Then scan.
You will see a new window pop up - the scanner's "native interface." On my computer, this window shows up BEHIND the Acrobat X screen (annoyingly) so you have to watch for it and click forward. Be sure to select "flat bed" from the "document source" menu. On my computer, this setting is NOT remembered between scans, so you have to do this for EVERY SCAN. Then, the document will scan, and you can do what you want with it in Acrobat X.
Needless to say, this is a long, painful, slow process, especially if you're scanning lots of flatbed items, as I do. Hence it's a "workaround" and NOT a "solution".
The SOLUTION will be for Adobe to FIX this. ADOBE: THIS IS A BUG REPORT. PLEASE LOG THIS IN AND FIX IT. Acrobat 9 with CS5 worked perfectly, as did Acrobat 8 before it. Moving to CS5.5 with Acrobat X broke this. Sloppy. Please fix! Thank you!
Glen BarneyI used your workaround (thank you!) but it was very annoying. Although I set up the options for a single multi-page document, Adobe gave me separate files and I had to consolidate them. I also had to fill out the options (color, flatbed vs feeder) for each page. This function was working for me at some point, so I don't know what happened to make my HP Multifunction and Adobe part ways. I hope Adobe comes up with a successful patch for this problem.

Blur Problems (bug report submitted)
I've submitted a bug report and will submit this again since its a better version of when I sent them before. The problem is this:
- Adobe Acrobat Professional shows blur in certain situations. In another situation, the same file opens correctly. The file below is self-explanatory, i.e.:
1. This is what you see when you do a fresh start, with no pre-existing Adobe processes running. Sometimes though the blur will show up even if its a fresh start.
2. Thats what you see when the file has been closed but Acrobat Professional is still running and open.
If anyone needs the original PDF, it can be downloaded at:
http://www.2shared.com/document/P927Y4Vm/scanned-doc-2.html
In area 1, you can see the glaring difference in visual quality. The blur makes it very hard and irritating to read the PDF. Notice how the blur alternates. Some areas are sharp while others are soft. Area 2 is how it should always look like (crisp).
If you cant see this image properly, it is uploaded at:
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4113/adobeacrobatproblurbug.jpg
Adobe Acrobat Professional version, latest: 9.3.4
System: Windows XP
BUG: Adobe Acrobat Professional shows blurry PDFs in certain situations.
===
STEPS TO RECREATE THE BUG:
Use Windows XP. I'm not sure if this shows up in Vista too. I'm sure it does.
1. Download the PDF from:
http://www.2shared.com/document/P927Y4Vm/scanned-doc-2.html
2. In the Windows Task Manager, make sure there are no pre-existing Adobe processes running such as:
AcrobatInfo.exe, Acrobat.exe, Acrotray.exe
3. Open the PDF file you got in #1. Set zoom to 100%.
4. Notice the visual quality. You will probably see blurry areas in the PDF. This matches Area 1 in this screen shot:
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4113/adobeacrobatproblurbug.jpg
5. Close the file by doing: File---> Close
Do not exit the program. Go to Task Manager and verify that Acrobat.exe is already running.
6. Open the file you got in #1, again. Zoom to 100% again.
7. Notice now that the PDF does not have any blurry areas. What you see should match Area 2 in the same screenshot:
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4113/adobeacrobatproblurbug.jpg
-End-The choices in Bridge > Preferences > Advanced > International > Keyboard are limited, and they do not allow for choosing custom keyboard layouts.
I need the custom keyboard layouts for a variety of reasons, such as being able to type in seven languages with my most used one without switching, two Russian layouts to allow for two non-standard ways of encoding Russian fonts, etc.
