Bug submission
Does anybody have any idea where I can submit this bug I encountered in my Forte for CE 3 (IDE)? Am using JDK1.3.1_02, and I've encountered java.lang.NullPointerException error. Forte prompted me to send in my log file at the website http://www.sun.com/forte/ffj/resources/bug_submit , but this website's not found. <<scratchs head>>

Zen bug reports... where to submit? Firmware & Media Explorer bugs
There seem to be two rather annoying bugs (actually, three, but the firmware ones are closely related) - there should be a separate forum for bug submission...
The firmware bugs are related to the embedded graphics and are present in the updated firmware, too.
The first bug: embedding a graphic in an MP3 properly, with tested tools such as ID3Tagger, works fine in any player supporting the image display - but Zen will *not* display the graphic unless the header's "Album" field is filled, too. If the "Album" field is empty in ID3v2 (or v), Zen will never display the graphic.
The second bug seems related to this: if the "Album" field has the same value in more than one file in the same directory (or playlist), Zen will only use the first indexed graphic for all those files. As a result, right now I have 0 various Star Wars themes in my Zen, each file with a different graphic embedded in it - and yet Zen shows the same graphics in all of them.
The third bug is in the Media Explorer: every time the player is plugged, CTPlyLsU.exe loads. But very often, it will load as a new process each time - and it will NOT be terminated after the player is disconnected, but it will stay in the memory! When that happens, every time the player is detected again, a new instance of the process will be started and used. I plugged the player in 0 times yesterday, and I had 0 instances of that process devouring the resources. The third bug is in the Media Explorer: every time the player is plugged, CTPlyLsU.exe loads. Strange, CTPlyLsU.exe is on my system but based on the task manager it doesn't load at all when the player is connected and everything works fine.Message Edited by jpalm on 0-30-200709:6 AM -

Dear Adobe people ...
This is a user-to-user forum; you do not address Adobe staff here.
The original post was about an installation on a beta version of Windows 7, which was not supported at the time.
If you have a problem with a different version of Adobe Reader on a different version of Windows 7, please open a new topic.
I'd gladly address Adobe staff directly about it if they didn't make it so difficult to do so but there are notices galore on their website restricting the ways of doing so for this particular product. That said, I accept that they may not review these posts and act on bugs found (although why is beyond me, I know if I was a developer of software and I wanted it to be top quality, I'd be looking everywhere I can for sources of bugs having been found and I certainly wouldn't make it any more difficult than an ordinary bug submission on any other software to report it).
It's clear to me that the problem originally posted about that shows up in Win 7 RC, is still present in the latest software and popping its ugly head up under Win 7 RTM. If they'd nipped it in the bud back then it should be fixed by now - that's annoying. I've been using online forums for a long time and I know it's always a good idea to search for a solution or similar thread and post in that if present, rather than opening an entirely new thread. As the bug is the same, the Adobe software version is very similar and the OS is just an earlier non-RTM version and there are no set forums for bugs within specific RTM vs RC/Beta OS's I posted here.
I'm not going to start a new thread because if, as you say there's no addressing of Adobe Staff here (and you haven't mentioned you have inside connections and will pass it on) what's the point? I will make one phonecall to Abobe in an effort to report this but there needs to be more open ways of bug reporting, even if it is a free product. -
Adobe Edge Animate CC (previous versions too) keep crashing when opening OS X file panels
Hello there,
Edge Animate CC crashes almost 30% of the time it opens a standard file OS X window (such as Open, Save, etc). It's a nightmare as you never know if your project is going to be saved or killed...
I had the same exact problem in previous versions.
Tried uninstall and clean preferences and re-install, no solution.
Crash happens randomly when accessing the standard OS X file panel, you see the very first frames of the panel opening (zooming from center screen) and just after that it crashes.
At the moment I can reproduce the crash with 100% chance in this way:
- Launch Animate CC
- Create a new project
- Go to Library>Symbols>Import Symbols
- crash

Negative Kerning in Photoshop CC is all kinds of crazy
Just type any value below -300 into the tracking area to see what I mean. It does some kind of multiple of 4 before erroring out. I got stuck in an error loop by pressing escape and had to force quit. (mac)
This is a major bug.
Would be interesting to know if @adobe have put web designer infront of this software. At all.
No option but to switch back to CS6 for now, shame.Hawken,
You need to have an account at Photoshop.com to post a "problem". (I can't remember if you can just use your username and password from here, or if you have to re-register there)
Would be nice to just have a simple bug submission form or website.
They used to, now you have to either create a new "Problem Post" over at Photoshop.com, or add to an existing post regarding same. I have reported this bug (introduced in 13.0.5 and appears to be in 14.0 as well), so you may just want to do a search for that topic and add to it or "vote" for it.
You may also ask why Adobe has two separate official Photoshop forums... seems like that would double their workload yet halve the effectiveness of user-to-user responses. -
In editing a simple, new Excel 2013 file, I am seeing certain cells with multiple, overlapping values in the a single cell. This is in the A-column so, not a matter of margins. Specificially, in one cell, I had "Design", then replaced
that text with "Reqt". Now I see the word "Reqt" written over "Design". when trying to delete the values, I can remove the "Reqt" value, but the "Design" value will not disappear/delete.
I've tried saving and reopenning the file with no effect; problem persists. Makes me think this is a corrupted .xlsx file, even though I just started from scratch 15 minutes before the problem arose.
I appreciate any guidance (or bug submission) you can support.
V/R,
KevinI have successfully inserted seven records in one form submit operation by looping through the command object execute method.
However, the data that is being inserted by the command object is repetition of the first record and the command object is not taking any data from the text boxes for the second record onwards. In this I had used the isert record behavious generated by DW CS4 and modified it to suit my requirement. However, the data inserted in the first row is getting repeated in all the seven rows.
Please help.
Also advise if there are any free dreamweaver server side validation extensions available. -
Apple iPad 6.1.2 10B147 - Active Sync Issues Remain
Hi,
Please correct me ASAP if I am posting this in the wrong area of the discussion forum.
I have a batch of Apple iPad devices that are now connecting to our Exchange 2003 system using Apple iPad iOS 6.1.2 10B147 devices. It would seem that these devices may have the 6.1 Active Sync issue again even though this version was meant to fix the issue.
A couple of users have reported this morning reoccuring calender cancellations, we have also had excessive log growth on Exchange 2007 platform.
Here is the reported "Device Agent" from Active Sync logs:
Apple-iPad3C6/1002.147
Apple-iPad2C7/1002.147
Apple-iPad2C7/1002.147
Apple-iPad3C6/1002.147
Apple-iPad2C7/1002.147
Apple-iPad3C6/1002.147
Here is the reported Device iOS
DeviceOS
iOS 6.1.2 10B147
Does anyone know if Apple has this as a reported bug yet on their fixed version? If not is there an official Apple bug submission process that should be followed?
Regards
Ben PaddickHi waddock,
I think that for the most part, iOS 6.1.2 resolved the recurring calendar bug and the significant battery drain issues. With that said, I have had a couple cases of devices still experiencing the battery drain but not the calendar bug. Quick fix is to remove the Exchange mailbox(es) from the device and re-add it. If there are any existing accounts that use Exchange ActiveSync (I think Hotmail and legacy GoogleSync), I just remove and add them back to just in case.
I suggest checking here for periodic updates on what's going on with EAS (Exchange ActiveSync) and 3rd party devices like Apple:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2563324
I assume you're an on-premise environment, so to mitigate short-term, you may want to think about blocking certain devices on certain operating systems using your Device Access Settings in Exchange for mobile devices.
For feedback for Apple, you can do it a couple ways. This is the internet facing site:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/
Or you can create an Apple Developer account (or Apple IT program if you have an enterprise agreement with them) and start submitting feedback during your testing (i.e. beta versions of iOS):
https://developer.apple.com/
Hopefully this helps! -
Cross-refs don't convert when using DropDownCaption/DropDownBody
Using TCS 2.5 (RoboHelp 8.0.2.208 / Frame 9). I am current with all updates for this version.
I'm still in the process of setting up our templates for converting our books from Frame to RoboHelp using the "linking" ability in RH. I have run into a problem where cross references in some topics fail to convert when generating the HTML in RoboHelp. The HTML for these xrefs turns out something like this:
<p class="FM_Body">This will be an x-ref to the second topic: <a>“This is the Second Topic” on page 1</a>.</p>
The href portion is missing so of course the link does not work.
After much troubleshooting and experimenting, it appears this problem is only occuring in topics where I used the DropDownCaption and DropDownBody formats in Frame to create DHTML effects. In other words, something about the code that creates the drop-down text effect prevents RH from properly creating OTHER xrefs in the topic.
If I go back to Frame and eliminate the DropDownCaption/DropDownBody paragraphs (either deleting them or changing the text to use a different paragraph tag) and regenerate, the bad cross-references start working again.
Has anyone else encountered this? Are there any work-arounds OTHER than just not using the DropDown tags in Frame?
Since going through our very large projects in RH with every update and editing to add the drop-down effect effect in would be ridiculously time consuming (and defeats the point of single sourcing), we basically won't be able to have normal drop-down text in our help system at all. Not a very good work-around. But it is all I can think of at the moment.
I did submit this using the bug submission form on the Adobe site, but I was hoping someone else who has encountered this might have found a better work around.
Thanks!
SaraFollowing are the solutions/workarounds available for this issue.
1. In RoboHelp 8(TCS 2), you can try importing(File->Import->FrameMaker Document) a FM document(in place of linking) for documents having such an issue. The document is converted fine while importing.
2. In RoboHelp 9(TCS 3), the issue has been fixed and works fine for both Import and Link functionalities. You may download a trial version of RoboHelp 9 and explore the functionality. -
TP4 - SEVERE: Can't register active data when window has no name
Hello,
I'm getting this message in OC4J console every time PPR is used in a page. It is coming from oracle.adfinternal.view.faces.activedata.SessionDataUpdateManager __getPageDataUpdateManager
Other that my application works ok. I think it's related with ADF bindings... but I don't use bindings at all, just managed beans. This message was not in TP3.
Should I be worried about this message?
Thanks,
DanHi,
I have added "ADF Page Flow Runtime" jar to the project (as "ADF Controller Runtime" was already there) and the message does not appear anymore.
In the test case provided, behavior failure was the one specified at Re: TP4 - PPR and af:subform don't work together. This should be the subject of new bug submission.
Message appears in other pages too, where only PPR is used. I have not noticed any bugs related to this message.
Thanks,
Dan -
RFE Proposal Set Operations - RFC
Greetings, this is a proposal for a Request for Enhancement in the JDK. It
is posted here for the review and comment. Basically an RFC on a RFE. =)
Please indicate your comments on the matter.
The proposal is to have a set of operations for perfomring Non-destructive
mathematical set operations on collections. Additionally, the addition of
set operations to rename the old operations int java.util.Collection
interface to names that are mathematically accurate; so that
removeAll(Collection c) would have an alias of difference(Collection c) and
retainAll(Collection c) would have a alias of intersection(Collection c).
The following methods would be added to the java.util.Collections class.
* Performs the non-descturctive union of two collections.
* The resulting collection is the union of the two collections with no
duplicates.
* @author Robert Simmons Jr.
* @param a The first collection of objects.
* @param b The second collection of objects.
* @return The collection wise union of and b.
public final static Collection collectionUnion(final Collection a, final
Collection b) {

}Transcript of mail session with Sun java developer after bug submission:
Hi Robert Simmons Jr.,
Thank you for the feedback.
The method names in java.util.Set conform to the parent interface,
java.util.Collection. As for the destruction situation, returning a new set
also would involve creating and populating a new set.
If you would like to pursue this Request for Feature Enhancement (RFE)
further,
I would suggest that you first post this idea to a newsgroup and request
comment from other Java developers. The issues that we have discussed are a
good starting point.
You can view a list of Java newsgroups at:
http://java.sun.com/aboutJava/newsgroups.html
Based on the responses, please feel free to submit a new RFE containing a
link to the newsgroup. Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Jonathan

I understand your reply now. However I put it to you that the names ofthese
operations are HORRIBLY named. They should be named according to the
mathematical operations. Further, they are destructive to the set being
checked and I dont want that. The set operations should give me back a set
and not destroy the current set. If they destroy the current set then Ihave
to spend time copying the thing before I run the set operation which is
truly not performant. Do an intersection of 400,000 elements with anotherfo
300,000 elements and you have to first copy one and then the retain all
method has to iterate through the entire set. This is very bad logic. Inthe
code I gave you, you have to only iterate through the set and not copy it.>

release : 1.4
subcategory : classes_util
type : rfe
synopsis : java.util.Collections Class Should Implement Logical Set
Operations
description : FULL PRODUCT VERSION :
This issue is pertinent to all java versions including the new 1.4 version.
FULL OPERATING SYSTEM VERSION : Occurs in all operating
Systems.
ADDITIONAL OPERATING SYSTEMS : NA
A DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM :
The java.util.Collections class is a class that is used to
manipulate sets and change them into various forms. Missing
from this is a feature that would define set operations,
such as Union, Intersection, and so on on the sets. This
would be extremely beneficial. I have written an extension
to this class that does just that and would like to submit
it for donation. All I ask is that the javadoc tag naming
me as author be retained.
This bug can be reproduced always.

Hi all,
I wrote a custom toolbar in order to select export formats. The toolbar works fine with PDF and RTF formats, but there is a problem with CSV format when the report contains characters like à, è, é, etc. or symbols like u20AC. In that case the symbols are not displayed correctly and there are problems importing the CSV file in Excel (I have to replace with a text editor the wrong characters in the file exported). The problem is verified also using the standard Crystal Reports toolbar and only for CSV format: PDF and RTF reports are created correctly.
I had a similar problem with JSP, but the solution was the page charset. In this case, how can I solve the problem?

How to generate the documentation of nested private class?
When I generate the documentation with the flag -private (the less restrictive), I get only the javadoc class block comment for the nested classes, is there any way to see the information about fields, operations, constructors, etc.
I am using jdk 1.3.1._04
Thanks in advance,
DavidThis might be a bug in javadoc. When using -private, all
program elements should be documented. There should be nothing
special that you need to do to document the members of nested
classes.
However, we haven't done a lot of testing with -private.
If you would please submit an example of the source code that
reproduces this error, we can take a look at it. Please follow
the bug submission procedure at:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/javadoc/faq/index.html#submitbugs
It's also possible this has been fixed in 1.4.x.

Latency leads to full system Failure in Exchange 2010 - Resolved in 2013?
My work encountered a bug - and for no lack of trying - I could not find any bug submission for Ex2010 anymore. Since Most programming relies on the foundation of the past - if replication service was implemented the same in 2013 than it could leave
to a full system failure.
The issue is something happened in REPLICATION service in such a fashion that it accepted a connection, and in the programming it set a variable to a LARGE NUMBER (fail closed) to replace for "Copy Queue
length" in the ball park of 922 quadrillion.
The service never updates this value because of its quasi-state and some timeout occurs and now the GOOD servers think their copy is ludicrously behind. This causes the GOOD servers to attempt to fail-over - as they believe their copy from the BAD
server has failed or perhaps another check fails...
[6 DAG pieces on 3 servers, 4 pieces per server]
In my scenario Server 3 holds:
1 part of server 2 <= Tells server 2 you're bad - don't fail over
1 part of server 1. <= Tells server 1 you're bad - don't fail over
2 parts its own <= "good" - though dead replication service
As I do not know if this exploitable by simply placing a listener in place of replication service to accept and do not respond to connections - I do not know. However, there is a "bug" or flaw in my opinion to allow 1 bad server to superceed
two good servers based on a partial service crash. Simply stopping replication service on Server 3 allowed Server 1 / 2 to take over with out issue - I then restarted replication service and no issue since.
Since i wasted an hour looking where to submit this - this forum will hopefully do - I am very much a white hat - but I am dislike the non-simple way before me to disclose said information to the creator. I want my hour back for their non-intuitive
process, or maybe the simply don't care about Exchange 2010.
- DanPlease note "LATENCY" in my topic is not network but inter-process on a single host, and is used as saying a timeout occurs without value.

Hi
I am having some very serious performance problems witgh java web start. I have a swing client that transmits XML/HTTP to and from a server, parses it, etc... I am finding that the XML/HTTP data request
is a factor of 10 to 100X slower, at least, using Java Web Start than without.
Any suggestions would be helpful
Thanks
CharlesCharles,
I've also observed some overhead when running an application deployed with JAWS compared to running the application from the jar, or in my dev environment.
After searching these forums a bit, I found this buried nugget of info: Try System.setSecurityManager(null) if you are requesting <all-permissions/> already.
Before the workaround, my application was taking 194 seconds for a single analysis run. After this workaround was applied, the same analysis run took only 82 seconds.
So as you can see, there is considerable overhead associated with performing operations through the layers of security (my guess). My particular application does a lot of disk I/O (which is probably something the security manager watches closely).
I stress the 'workaround' aspect of this because I haven't fully investigated the ramifications of using it, but eventually this might turn into a bug submission (because if I'm already requesting all-permissions, why do I still need to do setSecurityManager(null)?).
At any rate, hope this helps!
