BUG: Video layers black, not displaying

I've edited now for a week with FCP X v. 10.0 and have just run into a bug and haven't found a workaround for it yet. I have a project that has apparently gotten corrupted somewhere along the way. It was working before, but when I tried to export my project's movie, I noticed that there were a couple of sections, totalling minutes of footage, in which the screen is just black. (See attached image.)
The original footage (found by using "Reveal in Finder") is fine. I've tried everything I can think of, even deleting the render directories and re-rendering the project entirely, and had no luck. One odd symptom of the bug -- last night I discovered I sometimes could see the footage when I scrubbed backwards in the timeline, but it was black when scrubbing forwards or when playing.
Anyone else encounter this? Know any workarounds, or have any suggestions?

I've figured it out. Apparently when I added the music soundtrack, it somehow replaced the video of my primary storyline in some situations? Here's before -- it shouldn't be black:
I discovered this by replacing a video clip from my primary storyline (that was displaying as black) with a gap and putting that same video clip just as a layer above it. It showed the clip fine then:
You'll notice it also revealed that much of the soundtrack. So I went to the start of the soundtrack and pulled it down to a layer below the primary storyline. This fixed all the black clips:
This has been my overall conclusion about FCP X. I hate the "primary storyline" requirement -- whatever its benefits are, they're far outweighed by the hassles. It's my biggest complaint by far. It's dawned on me that maybe if I just fill the primary storyline track with a gap, I can just do open editing like FCP 7. If that works, I'd suggest Apple could make a lot of people happy very quickly by adding an option to turn off the primary storyline requirement.
Oh, and importing old FCP projects still has to happen. :-)

Video chapters are not displayed anymore

Since a lot of weeks and many ios updates the video chapters are not displayed anymore. The thumbnails disappered and the chapetr names are gone.
Before ios 5 both did work.
Is there a solution?

Photoshop layers do not display in Aperture

Hi folks.
I searched the forum for something on this but didn't find anything.
I just opened a JPG in my external editor (PS CS2), made some adjustments, saved and closed. In Aperture, the image (and thumbnail) do not represent the PS image.
I have a layered PS file - top layer is a subject cut out from the b/g layer, which I have blurred/desaturated and is the bottom layer.
The file is RGB/8-bit and both layers visible. In Aperture, I see the subject, but in the thumbnail, the b/g is white; in the main image, the b/g is black. The actual b/g does not display.
Any suggestions why/how to correct without flattening the image in PS?

The only 'Ask' option I have in CS2 preferences is for layered TIF files. From memory, I don't believe I get asked anything by PS when I exit, other than to save.
The only other thing worth mentioning is that in Aperture prefs, I have External Editor File Format set to PSD - presumably TIF doesn't enter into the equasion and so I'm never prompted per the earlier-mentioned PS setting.
I changed the APerture setting to TIFF and re-opened my problematic image in PS. I made a subtle change just to force a save, and again - was not prompted for anything other than to save. Back in APerture, I see no change.
The file itself has 3 layers - Background (orig color image); layer 2 is a B&W version of the bg...one part of the image was masked to preserve its original (bg) color; the third layer is an Old Photo filter effect, again with part of the image masked to preserve the original color. The mask itself was saved as a channel. I'll be happy to send you the PSD if you like - email me at tonygoulding-at-mac.com.

Rented movie; will not display; native video app will not display any of my videos

I rented a movie last night using the iTunes Store app on my iPad. The movie just barely started, then froze. Now the native video app doesn't work at all. I can tell that it's "on" when I touch the "video" app -- the screen displays nothing, but it's dimly lit. Help! Has anyone else had this problem?

Carolyn: I was able, through more research in the discussion groups, to find a solution that resolved my problem! In the HD>applications folder>safari>get info I checked the "open in 32 bit mode" box. Then I went to Adobe Reader>preferences>Internet and unchecked the box "display PDF in browser using" [Adobe Reader 9.3.3]. I then closed my Safari Browser, restarted the computer and, happy days are here again! On my older G5 I only had to set the preferences on the Adobe Preferences, as Safari 5.0.1 only appears to work in 32 bit mode, as the 32 bit mode check box was not there. You may want to pass this on to other users with the same or similar problems.

Bug v4.0 - XMLTYPE not displayed

the bug described in XMLTYPE not working on SQL Dev 4 EA3 is still there.
This is a NOGO for us. The workaround to execute as script is not a solution.
The XMLTYPE is also not included in the exported data, e.g. in an XLSX you simply see (XMLTYPE)

Is this a bug? Stroke does not display for rectangles?

Working in a room full of new iMacs with CS6, I used the rectangle tool to draw shapes on screen and the shapes would not completely display. It was almsost like other shapes were covering parts of the shapes so for example only 2 of 4 lines on a rectangle would show, sometimes only 3 lines would show, etc. I tried changing the stroke from size 1 to 2 and sometimes that helped, sometimes closing the file and opening a new one helped, and other times nothing helped, even making the stroke a size 4 or 5. This problem occurred on multiple iMacs.
Is there a setting or preference that may be causing this? Is this a known problem?

Yeah, it's not a bug, but I do consider it a major weakness in Fireworks screen rendering behavior. Unlike AI, Fireworks is constantly in "Pixel Preview" mode, and it's locked into Nearest Neighbor zoom rendering—possibly the crudest of rendering algorithms. This might have been fine in the early days of web design, or even several years ago, but if you're using the app to design graphics for a high-resolution device (e.g. a retina display) on a standard resolution monitor, and you'd like to view the graphic at near the actual size (e.g. 60%), the results look awful.
I think this could be fixed by offering an additional View option (e.g. Improved Rendering) that would use a different rendering algorithm, such as Bicubic or even a mixture of Bicubic Smoother/Bicubic Sharper.
I created a post about this issue quite a few months back; however, I may not have submitted a feature request, because I was still using Fireworks 8 at the time and wasn't sure if CS5 had addressed the problem:

There is at least one workaround: If you define an object as a Symbol and then resize the instance on the canvas, it will be rendered using the algorithm specified in FW's Preferences (under General > Interpolation). I think this works anyway; it's been a while since I tried it.

Flash Video Play Does NOT Display Controls

I am using Flash Pro 8 - putting FLV files in SWF files using
Flash Pro 8 and then "publishing" to Html and SWF to a location on
my hard drive.
When I display the webpage from my Hard Drive from where ever
on my hard drive I initially published to from Flash 8 Pro -
everything works fine - videos play and video control bar shows and
works.
When I publish this website to web server the video displays
and plays but NO Video Controller Bar (at bottom of the video)
shows at all.
Symptom: when I make an Html, SWF and FLA file into a folder
on my hard drive and display them in the browser the video control
bar shows. When I copy those three files into the hard drive
website in FrontPage, the video shows but the video control bar
does not.
So, I re-made the Html, SWF, and FLA files and put them
directly into the FrontPage website (on my hard drive) then
everything works fine when I use broswer (IE 6 or Firefox). z
But, when I publish the hard drive website to the remote
website hosting company, the video control bar disappears -
everything else works fine (video shows OK just no video controller
bar.)
My guess is that the SWF file has a non-relative URL
reference concerning the video control bar and when the three files
(Html, SWF and FLA) are moved to new location then that
non-relative address rears its head.
I should NOT publish from Flash 8 Pro directly to remote
webserver as it has FrontPage Extensions and does not like to talk
to FTP changes to website not coming from FrontPage client.
is my guess right? What to do?????

Did you upload the skin swf file to your server also? That is
a common missed step.

IPad Video App- Titles Not Displaying

Hello.. I've synced some movies to my iPad and in the Video app, the Movies used to have names underneath the cover art. For some reason, it's not being displayed. I don't know why this is happening. This did start after I signed up with iTunes Match. The Music Videos that I have show the title and have a cloud next to it. Don't know if this is related.
I also restarted the iPad and when I launched the Video App, as it loaded, I noticed the white text before the thumnails loaded, covering the text with the cover art. Very odd. These are iTunes cover art, so something is definitely wrong.
The movies I transferred that I created in iMovie, do show the title since the thumnails/cover art are much more of a square and then you can see it.

Try the following:
- A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPad: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPad.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

Fix youtube videos that are not displaying

I have no problem using Adobe Flash plug-in in general, but the youtube videos doesn't work in my browser. I first had only problem with embeded videos on other sites, but now I cannot even see videos on youtube itself. Why is this happenning?
Also, I cannot instal the flash from Firefoxes UI. I had to download external application. I was not given any debug info about why the installation failed.

Youtube videos may not work in the normal Muse preview. Please publish the site to Business Catalyst/upload the site to the host the site, and then check if they work. Take a look at this related post: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5567897#5567897

All Quicktime videos are now not displaying video

Up until yesterday, all of my quicktime files and movies that i could view in itunes, including trailers in the intunes store were working fine. Now for some reason, the audio in any of the above mentioned files works, but the video is now random fuzzy images of what appears to be my start menu on my windows xp operating system. i have reinstalled the most recent version of quicktime, and i have run a virus scan and have turned up nothing. this occurs for any file that requires quicktime. again, the video appears to be fuzzy images of my start menu. the images are almost like looking at a tv thats trying to play an atari that has not had the dust blown out of the game cartridge. i know thats a crazy way to describe it but thats exactly what it looks like. I have a lot of movies on my itunes library, and not one of them works. please help!

Did the nVidia graphics card come "built in" with the Vaio, or was it something you added on later yourself?
If it came built in, I'd head to the Sony website and check the driver download pages for your Vaio model to see if there's any driver updates available for the card. (I'd go to Sony because they may have tweaked the basic nVidia drivers so that they work a bit better with the other hardware they're using in your Vaio.)
(Actually, while you're at your download pages, that would be a good time to stock up on any other updates available for your particular configuration of your Vaio model. Things like chipset drivers can have some impact on things like video performance.)
If the card is something you added on yourself later on, I'd instead head straight to nVidia's website to check to see if there's any updated drivers for the card.

Outlook 2013 Bug - Categories Column Does Not Display Color In Certain Positions

My System: Outlook 2013-64 on Windows 7-64
When looking at my email list (preview pane off), the categories column displays its color and text. But when the Categories column is moved to the left of the "from" column, it ceases to display its color and displays only its text, even when
the column is wide enough to display everything for a category.
Can someone tell me how to fix this?
This did not happen in Outlook 2010 and 2007.

I just confirmed this issue exists on Outlook 2013, when categories
column is dragged to the left to From, the categories don't display the colors but label texts instead.
While I didn't find this issue on Outlook 2010 or Outlook 2007.

Layers do not display the transparent grid

I must have hit some obscure keyboard command because now, when I create a layer, instead of a transparent grid behind the image, I get a black background. Can't find where I can change it back.

WVC80N Video Stream not displaying on iOS6 browsers

I updated an iPhone and iPad to iOS6 yesterday. Now my Linksys WVC80N video streams will not display on both Safari and Chrome browsers.   On Safari if I go to the Camera "Home" page then use the browser Back button to the View Video page then I can get a still from the camera. Any ideas on how to fix this issue?

I just checked the release note of this firmware 1.0.01. Perhaps, you can try another browser for isolation before updating the router. That might be a browser problem (maybe not supported yet).

Photoshop CS6 content (pictures, etc) will not display (or only partually) on the stage.

I just purchased and loaded Photoshop CS6. Pictures (actually this is for all content in any layers) will not display at all or only partually display (see picture below). I uninstalled and reinstalled the program but there is no change. The other Adobe products from the Master Suite Collection run fine (Flash, Encoder, etc). I am thinking that my instalation disc may be corrupted. Can you give me any advice?

Video player won't display video after OS update

Just installed new OS update on my Z30. Video player will not display video but I have audio

Hmmm..."just installed"...hmmm...how long ago please? And have you conducted several reboots since, and let it "settle" for about 48 hours?
Also, "new OS update"...can you be more specific please? Each user is separately controlled (usually by their own carrier) as to what OS they receive, so "new" for one may not be the same version as "new" for another.
Let us know.
