Bug when playing non-standard MP3 file
There appears to be a problem when reading/playing MP3 files. If the mono/stereo indicator in the first frame of a VBR MP3 file (VBR frame itself, Xing VBR in my case) contains "stereo", but the subsequent frames contain single-channel sound (i.e. mono), the file is not played by iTunes. The file is playing perfectly fine with MS media player, Foobar2000 and a host of other music players though.
To be precise, in my case, the frame header of the Xing VBR frame is FF FB 90 00, but the frame header of the actual sound frame is FF FB 40 C4.
I thought the whole idea of MP3 encoding is that it allows to change all parameters of the sound from one frame to another. Yet, it seems that a simple switch from stereo to mono throws iTunes off track.
Why not fix the VBR frame to be correct for the sound it's describing? Just run VBRFix on the files.

I am developing an application for mobile. In this application I need to save the text and audio data in one file (extention of the file may be .mmo etc.), and then I need to play the audio from that file with the help of a mobile. (the file will be created with the help of a PC).
I am seeking for help, whether it is possible or is there any other solution? I want to save both text and audio in the same file to facilitate my user.

This is the way i would solve the problem and i have not tested it, So there can be some problems while implementing it. The approach is based on BASE64 encoding and XML, there can be some some limitation on file size.
This is the way.
1) first you have to encode the audio file using BASE64 encoding. Its about reading the bytes from file and encoding to BASE64 char sequence. You can find serveral BASE64 encoder examples in Java (do Google).
2) Now you have to create a XML file like this, assume that, file type is WAV and you have the encoded char sequnce..
<AudioFile>
<AudioFormat>WAV</AudioFormat>
<TextData>some text</TextData>
<AudioData>encoded BASE64 char sequence here</AudioData>
</AudioFile>
3) Assume that, now file is available in the memory card.Now you have to read it using File Connection API and parse it using kXML inside your MIDlet
4) After parsing it you will have file type and encoded BASE64 char sequnce..now you have to decode the charsequnce to byte[]. Then create a ByteArrayInputStream using the byte[].. Here you need a BASE64 Decoder..(do Google).
then create the player using Manager.createPlayer(InputStream stream, String type) MM API;
Now you can play the file...
You can add many attributes in the XML file if you want...
If you are going to use J2ME polish API for your UI then BASE64 won't be a problem, it has a Base64Encoder and Decoder..

when i search for mp3 files spotlight shows id3 tags instead of filenames as it used to do !!! I DONT want that .. how can i disable it !!!!!???????
Sorry, my handful of mp3's had the file name as the id3 tag name.
So, I am seeing the same thing as you.
Oddly, a while back I was trying to help someone out in Mountain Lion that wanted to see the id3 tags in the Finder.
It's all a bit silly. They should have added columns instead or changing it to tag song name.
They are transitioning to having everything reflect the content and not the file system, so this may not be reversible.

I just purchased and downloaded an MP3 from a site other than iTunes. The file downloaded fine, then what appeared to be the QuickTime player launched and played the song perfectly. But now I can't seem to get access to that file anymore. I don't see a way to launch QuickTime to replay the song. It doesn't show up when I launch the iPod app. I accessed my iPhone's contents via PhoneView and it was still inaccessible. How can I play this non-iTunes song file on my iPhone?
True another browser app will let the poster play the song again but the issue is he bought the song and wants it on his computer and able to play with his other music. So another browser is not going to help. The answer to the problem is what was already stated, buy music from the iTunes store app or from your computer and put into iTunes.

Nokia 101 is not playing half my MP3 files
Bought a new Nokia 101 couple days ago.
Installed an SD card with several MP3 files (mostly audio books, some music). All these files play without a hitch on all devices I'v tried them on - right from bare basic phones, smartphones to comps.
Bit I find that a approx half of them won't play on the Nokia 101!. Error message displayed - "File format not supported. Please select another song".
Discovered that this phone has a ridiculous limitation of not being able to play MP3 files of bitrate lower than 32 kbps. So checked all the files and after eleminating the < 32 kbps files, it is still not playing about half the files that are well above 32 kbps. The other half or is, it plays well. So its not like the MP3 player is totally broken.
What could be the issue? Please help, as I need the phone to play these files if it is to be of any use to me.
Quite disappointed with Nokia, as no other phone or player has such issues with playing anything.@Srikant - Are you sure? Nokia Care told me on phone that it can be done; and asked me to bring the phone. My concern is that I currently don't have the time for it, and was hoping to find some solution here. Nothing is worse than having to take the time and effort for taking a brand new product for service.
I don't see a PC interface port on the 101 like the one on my 1112. But I don't know if there is one inside the cover or something... haven't checked.
While we would all like to use MP3s of high bitrates, its not always a choice we can make. I have some files of <32 kbps, and I now know this amazing phone can't play them. But I really don't understand why it isn't playing half my files that are in the whereabouts of 50 kbps. Its not possible to get these files at originally higher bitrates. I guess I could try to encode these files at higher bitrates, but thats not going to increase their quality! Besides, these are audio books and no music, so the files at existing bitrate are fairly good. And really, why should I be spending time in doing all this, when every other phone, including very basic ones can play these files on the same SD card without a hitch?
I mainly bought this phone as a secondary phone for some voice calling and for its MP3 player. It fails badly at both jobs as its single speaker design makes any privacy on calls impossble - everyone around can hear the opposite person loudly. And as an MP3 player it fails for the reason above, for having a barely ok speaker (not quite good enough even for audio books) and for being so bare bones as to not even have a seek option, which is a REALLY bad thing when you are listening to audio books.
Even no-name Chinese phones can do a better job. -
AE CS5 only see black when playing a rendered mov file in QT
AE CS5 Mac 10.6: After rendering a movie as Render:Best Settings / Output:Lossless I get an mov file (quite large, 193MB) - awesome thats what needs to happen. Now upon viewing that mov file within QT, I get the timer (8 seconds) and the playhead scrolls those 8 seconds, yet I see nothing - only darkness and utter black. Now on the flip: when I render this same file as Best Settings / H.264 and play the mp4 wha lah you get a smooth playing video. Downside, this file needs to be uncompressed and at the highest quality and playable in QT (a mov). Is the file too large for my machine to handle playing? Is this another QT vs AE bug? Anyone please, input is as alway greatly appreciated. Oh, 1 more piece of the puzzle: Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC Widesceen (1.21). This is a file to be played on an LED arena ribbon...

That wouldn't cause the file to play fine in some places and not elsewhere.
This is a gigantic file in terms of horizontal pixel dimensions, and the data rate is quite large, too (nearly 200MB for only 8 seconds). I suspect some combination of QuickTime Player and the computer on which you're trying to play it (e.g., slow hard disks).
Does it really matter whether this can play in QuickTime Player? We've seen that it plays in post-production software. Has the client tried playing it in the way that it will actually be played/used---i.e., on the LED screen at the arena?
And, again, are you and they really sure that this huge losslessly compressed format is what is required? As I said before, this is very much not the kind of format that is intended for playback and distribution. Uncompressed files and files compressed with Animation are intended for purposes like use as intermediate files in post-production, not playback. -
When i import a MP3-file, it's placed under 'Podcasts' not 'Music'
When I import a certain file on my hard drive, it's placed under the 'Podcasts'-directory instead of the 'Music'-directory, which is really irritating, as I now have to go to the podcast-directory every time I want to play it.
Anyhow, the file is just like other MP3-files I got on my computer - that I am able to import without problems. It's 96kbps and .mp3-format, just like a dozen other song I just imported, and that puts themselves into the music-directory.

I get an error when trying to import MP3 files in iTunes?
When I try to import mp3 files into iTunes (version 6), I get an error message of:
The file "song file name" can not be imported An unknown error has occurred (-50).
I have already imported these files into iTnes on my old computer, but run into this problem with my new laptop. I downloaded a new version of iTunes just like I installed all my new programs on this new laptop.
For some reason, I run into this problem when trying to import any mp3 files (as mentioned, even mp3 files that I successfully imported into iTunes previously).
(I've tried a complete removal and re-install, but that didn't help)
Anyone know why I'm getting this error message and how to correct things?

No Audio When Playing an MPEG 2 File

I have Quicktime Pro and the MPEG plugin. I have played several different MPEG files in different players and audio is present. When I play one of these files in Quicktime, all I get is video. There is obviously audio embedded as one of the streams in the MPEG file.
Why doesn't Quicktime play the audio portion of the file?

When export .band as mp3, file does not show up

i'm using garageband to record interviews for research i'm doing for school. when i try to export my recordings as mp3's, most of the time it works. however, sometimes, i'll go to export them, and it will create the mixdown, normalize, convert, etc -- but then no file actually appears on my desktop (and trust me, i am saving it to my desktop). when i use Finder, the file doesn't exist either. why is it that sometimes it work and sometimes it doesn't?

Keeping song info when importing realplayer-created mp3 files
I recently moved to Mac and iTunes, but when I imported my (~6000) mp3 files from realplayer, about 20% came over without album, artist, or genre information. Instead, the song name was just the file name. for the other 80% of tracks, everything worked fine. Help?
The easy thing to do, IF you transfered them from the office PC using copy, you still have access to it, and all the music on your PC and this office PC is the same, is to transfer again with the iTunes Library file.
You will transfer the whole "My Music" folder. inside this folder is the "iTunes" folder with its "iTunes Library.itl" file. this file contains all the song info, playlist ratings ectect. more on the iTunes library can be found here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93732
Another helpful artical for you maybe will be the one for transfering iTunes and music to a new PC using your iPod. Some steps you may not need to do, or have to alter abit, But it will give you a general idea on what you need to do to properly transfer things from one PC to another. Flash Player 10.1 crashing in Safari when playing H.264 .mov files
Since installing Flash Player 10.1.53.64 on a Mac OS X 10.6.4 system, WebKitPluginHost in Safari Version 5.0 (6533.16) crashes every time when playing H.264 Quicktime movie.
We have disabled hardware acceleration and tried other things to no avail. If we play .flv movies, the plugin works ok.

That plugin version installed is actually the HW accelerated beta version Gala: 10.1.81.25 (The current version is 10.1.81.75). 4G iPod Shuffle can't play 1h-long mp3-files! Why?
I have just purchased my first iPod Shuffle and it works fine except for the fact that my workout mixes can not be played.
The Shuffles main purpose should have been to play my music during workout...
Everyone of the mixes is between 1h and 1.5h long and none of them will play. Normal songs work fine.
My very old classic can play these mixes!
I assume it's just a little software bug that's causing this problem.
If that's the case, how do I tell Apple to please update their firmware to support bigger mp3's?

Thanks for the question. What happens when you attempt to play these songs? Based on the information provided, it sounds like these symptoms may be related to software. For isolation purposes, try restoring your iPod to factory settings:

BUG when playing Solitare in Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
Ive been playing Solitare and found a bug. What ever is being used for Random generation seems to have an error.
At first I was not sure (I opened a post somewhere else), but now I AM POSITIVE. Especially when you get the same game two times in a row. This has happened more than once. I am relatively sure I have see the same thing in Spyder
solitare as well.
Most of the time, I completely unload the game and start over. So that may be a clue. Normally, the repeat does not happen immediately, but it has repeated immediateldy more than twice.Please try the following:
1.
Click
Start
2.
Click
Control Panel
3.
Click
Uninstall a program located under the “Programs” category
4.
From the selections listed on the left-hand side of the window click
Turn Windows features on or off (provided administrative credentials if prompted)
5.
Click the “+ ” next to
Games to drop down the menu, then uncheck and check again
Spider Solitaire (This will re-install it)
I recommand to you to uncheck then leave the interface and after you do the same previous steps to check it again.
Try this and check if the problem is the same or not.
