Buggy behavior with Windows 8.1

I've seen a few posts related to this, but no resolution.
I have a freshly installed Illustrator on a Windows 8.1 machine.  All of the settings are default as far as I know, and I haven't installed any plugins.
When I started using the app, the popup tools would not appear sometimes.  Sometimes they would work on one monitor and not the other.
Now, I am trying to draw lines with the pen tool, and the stroke and fill is coming out differently from what is shown on the tool bar.  I delete, change color, and some changes take effect; others don't.  So it is making the application basically unusable.
If I create a new file, the strokes and fills come out correctly.

Hi,
If you attempt to right click it, what's the symptom?
We could try the following methods:
Method 1: Disconnect all the unnecessary external devices connected to the computer (except the mouse and the keyboard)
Please disconnect all the unnecessary external devices connected to the computer (except the mouse and the keyboard) and then check if you still face this issue.
Method 2: Update the Device Drivers on the Computer.
Step 1: Check the Windows updates for any latest driver updates.
Check in Windows updates if any driver updates are available. If so, install the same and check if it helps.
a) Press “Windows Logo” + “W” keys from the keyboard.
b) Type “Updates” in the search bar and click on “Install optional updates” from the left pane.
c) From the “Windows Update” window, click on “Check for Updates” on the top left corner, to receive a fresh list of updates and then install all the updates listed there.
If no driver updates are available via Windows Update, then you may install them for all the devices on the computer from the Computer Manufacturer’s website.
Step 2: Update Driver Software from the Manufacturer’s website:
Go to the computer manufacturer’s website and search for the latest Windows 8 drivers available for all the devices on the computer and then install them by following the instructions given in the website

  • Acrobat X behavior with Windows 7 ALT-Tab

    When I do an ALT-Tab in Windows 7, all of the Adobe Acrobat X open PDF files show up as icons (aero view is turned off).  How can I change Adobe so that only one icon is shown, no matter how many files I have open in Adobe Acrobat X.
    Thanks.

    >doesn't allow users to save the completed pdf forms to any of the network drives
    Over in the Premiere Pro forum where I spend more time (use that more than the Acrobat that came with Master Collection) there are a few messages a year from people who want to use PPro with networked files, or run from a network instead of a standalone computer... and the answer has always been that the program is simply not designed to be used in that fashion... so it doesn't work
    It would appear that Acrobat is also designed to run on a standalone computer, with local hard drive(s) and doing anything else just won't work
    I don't remember the name of the (software-hardware?) but there was one message by someone using a specific type of network that allowed them to "spoof" the local computer into thinking that the network drive was actually a local drive hardwired to the computer... and that did work for file saving

  • Strange window behavior with CS5

    I have begun experiencing strange behavior with PS CS5. I should begun with the machine configuration: 2.66GHz iMac (8,1) Intel Core Duo with 4GB RAM and OSX 10.6.6, Radeon HD 2600 Pro graphics card. The initial symptom showed up suddenly as an inability to display an image window; that is, I could open PS normally, everything would show up properly, but when I opened an image file of any sort, there would be no image window. Other cues indicated that the file was open; for example, the window menu would show it selected, and the layers palette would show the file's layers.
    It did not seem to matter what type of file was involved: PSD, JPG, TIF, whatever. Occasionally, this behavior would begin during a session. Sometimes it would happen right off the bat. Sometimes, stopping and restarting PS seemed to clean things up; other times, this had no effect. After messing around quite a bit with different permutations and combinations, all I could say was that the problem was random.
    I might add that I've had PS CS5 on this machine pretty much since it was announced, and had not had problems with it before. So this issue came along quite suddenly a couple of weeks ago. This was a little after I'd installed an update for Nik's Viveza 2; and I began to suspect that. Although why Viveza should do such a strange thing was odd, and Viveza was never part of the files I was experiencing issues with. Anyway, I went back to an earlier version of Viveza and the problem persisted.
    Since I run Time Machine, I also went back to versions of the entire PS folder from a month back, and found the same problem. Along the way, I experimented with the files I was using with PS CS4 & CS3, which I also have installed on this machine. These two versions of PS run perfectly well. At least the CS4 version has precisely the same plugins as the CS5 folder, and this seems to discount the potential problem with plugins.
    To be sure about CS5, I completely deactivated, deinstalled, and reinstalled it. The same issues occurred. Now, I have to admit that I let PS run its update process so that I brought it back to the most recent version in this step of my troubleshooting. So, I can't be certain that the issue isn't with some update of CS5.
    I might add that I have been running CS5 in 32-bit mode, for compatibility with certain plugins. This may or may not be an issue, since I have limited experience with running in 64-bit mode. At this point, I should add a bit more about the confusing behavior.
    While messing around with CS5, I also suspected the GPU support, since my problem had to do with windows. When the problem presents itself, the usual cycle through window views that you get by pressing the "F" key seems to get messed up. In particular, the "F" key doesn't work at all. Next, if you use the View menu to select different views, the full screen with menu bar view will often have garbled pixels, while the full screen view will show a blank grey screen. Then, cycling back to a window view will show a window with blank grey contents. This is interesting since the starting point was no window at all; but going into full screen and then back will produce a window with bogus contents.
    Now, the next strange thing, having to do with the GPU, is that CS5 often fails to recognize the Radeon HD 2600 card. Oddly enough, it did originally. And I had it running in Basic mode. However, CS4 does recognize the GPU; and I can set it in any variety of modes: Basic, Normal, and Advanced. This behavior is not consistent at all either; that is, while CS5 almost always now fails to detect the GPU, sometimes it does. As near as I can tell, this failure to detect the card does not depend upon whether I start CS5 in 32-bit or 64-bit mode. OTOH, CS4 always recognizes the GPU.
    Another form of this odd behavior arises if I start CS5 cold, and then just open a new blank window. This almost always works. I get a blank white window, and I can paint on it with a brush, etc. However, if I go ahead at this point and open a file, then the new file takes over the window; and there are no tabs. If I select the original new file, usually labelled "Untitled", the window bar will show the change of filename but the window's contents and the layers palette will continue to show the old file that I had opened. Cycling through views can sometimes get back to the new Untitled file, but just selecting file windows never works.
    Yet another aspect of this messed up window behavior is that the workspace bar, which shows the Bridge, MiniBridge and view icons on the upper left and the various workspace options and CS Live on the upper right, is present but blank. OTOH, the tool bar is always displayed correctly, as is the horizontal bar that shows the various tool options. Likewise, the palettes for the workspace such as layers, swatches, adjustments, and so on, are always correctly displayed on the left.
    My next steps in trying to figure this out will be to ensure that I am running the latest of all plugins so that I can get everything running in 64-bit mode and try this again. However, the single factor that seems consistent in this whole mess is that whenever I do find this odd behavior, the performance preferences window will indicate that CS5 is not detecting the GPU. Whenever this happens, if I open up CS4 and check the same performance preference in it, the GPU is detected. I can have the two preference windows side by side on the screen in fact, CS4 sees the GPU and CS5 does not. The counter-indication is that sometimes CS5 will work properly and the preferences window still shows that the GPU has not been detected. Having said that, I can add that if I have opened up CS5, and it has found the GPU, and I have set it into, say, Basic mode, and then later found CS5 messing up, and I go back and check the performance preferences again, the GPU has always been lost. So, CS5 can mess up windows with or without the GPU detected and active; but when if it started with the GPU present, it will show up as lost after the weird behavior starts.
    To add one more observation, I have had Macs and other computers with failing GPUs. This computer is showing none of the typical signs of that. Every other program seems to be working just fine, and I have a lot of these, many graphics intensive; e.g., Corel Painter 11, Parallels v6 running Windows 7, PS CS4, Lightroom v3, Aperture v3, and so on. It is just CS5 that is messing up.
    I could load up this message with screen shots of all this nonsense, but I'm not sure what that would add to the strange tale, other than I'm not pulling your legs. I am, however, pulling out my own hair.
    As I stated before, this began quite suddenly a couple of weeks ago, early Feb 2011. My best guess as to cause is some combination of incompatible updates between CS5, OSX, and maybe some plugin or other. I found unusual behavior with onOne's FocalPoint v2 last year after Apple updated GPU drivers in some OSX update, and cratered that program. It took onOne a month or two to fix that. I have CS5 on a laptop with the same OSX version, and on that I haven't seen these issues; but then, I haven't been using it as intensely over there. Also, that machine has different CPU and GPU models than this iMac.
    So, to the community: is anybody else starting to see this odd stuff? Am I alone?

    Here's the reason I say that the same plugins exist for both CS4 & CS5. Sometime last year, the internal hard drive on this computer died (as they so often do), and it was replaced under the Apple care warranty. As a consequence, I decided to rebuild the OS and applications from scratch and bring back my user files from backup. I among other things, I reinstalled all of CS4 as well as CS5 (and I had to put CS3 back too for reasons having to do with printing calibration images for Quad Tone RIP). Then, I went to reinstall the plugins that I needed. I use Nik Software, onOne, Portrait Professional and various Topaz plugins. To my recollection, most of these install in PS CS3, CS4, CS5, Aperture, and Lightroom. In short, it is not that I've copied or moved plugin folders from one application folder to another, just that the installers automatically detect the presence of the various applications and put the various plugins into each, as appropriate.
    The only 32-bit plugins that I have that don't fit into this category are from Vincent Versace. He provides special versions of certain Nik plugins (Tonal Contrast, Contrast Only, etc) that function with some Acme Educational extensions for performing B&W conversion, sharpening, blah blah blah. These plugins are only 32-bit and the extensions are only CS5 compatible. I've installed these ones only into CS5; so, you've got me. OTOH, I've had these from Vincent as soon as CS5 was available; and they've worked so far without problems. Perhaps I should just edit the extensions so I could use the latest plugins direct from Nik instead of the Versace special editions...
    I've checked fonts and repaired permissions. I am presently going through the rather tedious process of disabling plugins and extensions to see if anything yields consistent results. The rather random arrival of the strangeness makes ensuring that a change is really having an effect more difficult to validate, as you will appreciate.
    I apologize for my long-winded original post. I add all of the detail so that anyone who'd experienced similar strange behaviors might properly pattern-match what they were seeing. On the one hand, in finding the cause of a problem, you look for what's changed; and theoretically nothing is new. On the other hand, there's always so much changing behind the scenes with automatic updates of this, that, and the other thing that it's impossible to make the claim that nothing's new.

    It may tell me that you are seeing the "popular" complaint about the intermittent MM behavior.  Do google searches for "skipping magic mouse" or similar wording and you will get lots of hits.
    One suggestion which some have claimed works is to stick a little ball of aluminum foil between the batteries and their contacts.  The theory behind this is that not all batteries are created equal in the sense that the positive contact is slightly higher in some makes and not the others and that the ones with a shorter contact actually break contact due to the battery moving slightly in its compartment.  So the al foil is to take up the gap.
    I personally cannot say this theory is valid one way or another.  I use rechargeable Sanyo Eneloops and they seem ok.

    I have a new HP h8 1214 PC WiFi with Windows 7 installed.  My old HP ScanJet 4850 and my HP Personal Media Driove 1600 will not install. My previous operating system was XP.
    I would like to install the ScanJet 4850 because it can send slides and film strips to my computer to be used in a slide show with Adobe Photoshop Elements and  Adobe Premiere. I have started a slide show of these items and did not get all of the slides transferred before my old computer conked out.

  • Running a PXI with Windows 7

    Hey,
      I have access to three NI machines (PXI-1042 chassis, PXI-8186 controller) that can dual-boot with Windows XP and Labview RT.  Previously, these machines were used in the following setup: two computers attached via ethernet port, one running Windows XP and Labview 8.2 controlling the other running Labview RT.  However, I recently obtained a set of Dell Optiplex 780s, all running Windows 7, and have since installed Labview 2010 on each.  I have attempted to replace the Windows XP computer in the above setup with a new Windows 7 machine (with both the latest DAQmx drivers and the latest pxi drivers), and labview always tells me I don't have the correct plugins installed.  Are there better drivers out there? If not, how can I control a PXI machine with a Windows 7 machine?
    Many thanks

    Hello bjw5,
    At what point does this error pop up, when you click on Add device in the project>>existing devices>>and then choose the PXI? Was this project originally built in LabVIEW 8.2 and now saved to 2010? Do you have any other hardware you can try adding to the project? There should be no compatibility problems having a Windows 7 host computer. What version of the PXI platform software and DAQ mx drivers do you have?
    Researching this error dialog it usually occurs when the project contains .dlls or DAQmx custom scales or tasks. Are all three PXI systems exhibiting this behavior, or are you just setting up this one to start? I appreciate your answers to these questions. On a side note, please keep your posts to one forum, this helps us focus our resources on the support side. This most likely has to do with the network/RT setup versus the actual LabVIEW project.

  • Does Acrobat 8 standard correctly run with Windows 7?

    I have been using Acrobat Professional and standard since version 6, and I was forced to upgrade to version 8 even though I don't use any of the additional features of 8 because version 6 didn't run with Vista.  I do hope I will not be forced to upgrade again with Windows 7.  My new computer had a Windows 7 upgrade offer, but I'm reluctant to do it if I will have to re-purchase the software I am using.
    The reason I ask is because I checked the Windows 7  compatibility site and they only mention version 9.

    I too have been using Acrobat Pro for a long time (currently version 7, though).
    After upgrading to Windows 7 (64-bit), some strange behaviors in Acrobat 7 Pro:
    1) No PDF Printer device.  Worked fine in XP
    2) Can't open PDF files when clicking links to them in IE8 (must save to hard disk first, then open); worked fine in XP
    3) Periodic pop-ups saying hardware has changed... please reactivate.
    So, basically I am resigned to the fact that Acrobat 7 simply isn't going to work reliably in Win 7-64 bit.
    But I also see very little informaton (except what I see in these forums) about Adobe's current or planned support for Acrobat 9 on Windows 7 - 64 bit. Windows 7 is not even mentioned in the system requirements page tof Acrobat 9.  Seems rediculous since Win7 Release candidate has been out a long time. You'd think Adobe would be ready with Win 7 support concurrent with the release of the OS.
    So what's the deal?  Should I go ahead and buy the upgrade to Acrobat 9 Pro and hope for the best or wait for Adobe to officially state Windows 7 64 BIt is supported??
    Thanks.

  • Embeddable Report Designer Control with Windows 7

    I have a couple of questions.
    I am using Crystal Report XI in both Vb6 and VS2005. I am using the COM controls in both. The CRViewer and the Embeddable Report Designer Control. This has been working in XP fine. Not so good in Vista or Windows 7. I am upgrading to Crystal Reports XI R2 Sp6. For viewing reports in VB6 and VS2005 this working fine.
    I know that the Embeddable designer no longer exists in future Crystal Report versions or in the .net versions.
    In VS2005 the Embeddable Report Designer Control does not work in windows 7.
    Is there anything new that needs to be in the code then in the previous versions? What do I need to do to make the Embeddable Report Designer Control work with windows 7 correctly?
    Also I will need the merge modules for Crystal Reports XI R2 Sp6 for both the .net and RDC. Are they avalible?
    I need to be able to modify reports within the application. My clients have to be able modify existing reports to match state and federal laws and rules.

    Crystal Reports XI R2 Sp6 supports WIN 7, so it should work, though as far as I am concerned, the Embeddable Report Designer Control was always flaky. Also, it may be possible (perhaps even likely) that the RDC components were not tested by QA on WIN 7.
    What is the actual issue you are seeing? (errors, behavior, etc.)
    Are you seeing the issue on a development computer or after you deploy the runtime? I am assuming this is your dev box as you are asking about CR XI SP6 msm files, but I have to be sure.
    If at all possible, do not use the RDC in .NET. The RDC was never tested in .NET and thus is not supported. It may work, but using the Embeddable Report Designer Control in .NET gives me the creeps...
    See if you can get this to work in VB 6 first. If not, you at least have an escalation path for a fix. You do not have an escalation path with RDC in .NET. Please note that if a fix is accepted by R&D, the usual time frame for release of a fix is 6+ months.
    For the future, you will have to look into using the RAS report creation APIs in .NET. This will give you similar report creation abilities at runtime as the Embeddable Report Designer.

  • "Run Script" (F5) Flacky Behavior with CREATE PROCEDURE and PACKAGE

    When I have the following create statement in a SQL Worksheet and run the script using "Run Script" (F5), I get the "PROCEDURE bogus Compiled." message. Why does it not tell me that there was a compile error? The procedure is marked with a little red "X" in the connections pane.
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE bogus IS
    BEGIN
      x := 1;
    END;
    /Also, when I have the following command in a SQL Worksheet and run the script using "Run Script" (F5), I get the "PROCEDURE bogus Compiled." message. The difference is that I removed the slash after the CREATE PROCEDURE command. I can go into that procedure in the database via the Connections pane, click on the compile button, and the procedure compiles with no errors. Why does it not compile in a script when missing the slash?
    CREATE OR REPLACE PROCEDURE bogus IS
    BEGIN
      NULL;
    END;I noticed the same flaky behavior with CREATE PACKAGE BODY as well. This is in version 1.0.0.14.67 on Windows XP. Has this been fixed in the latest version?
    Mike

    I found a number of earlier posts on this (going back to at least v804), but I cannot find a thread with a response from the SQL Developer team - see:
    Package compilation error
    Succesful compilation message and Compiling Invalid Objects
    Creating a stored procedure from a file does not show compilation errors
    Re: Syntax Error Feedback
    I assume that it is just a bug with SQL Developer that it does not check for compilation errors when determining the status message to display (ie "PROCEDURE bogus Compiled"). At least now we get the little red cross on the navigator to tell us it is invalid :)

  • Has anyone gotten DLNA to work properly with Windows 7 x64 ?

    Has anyone gotten DLNA to work properly on Windows 7 64 bit and Windows Media Player 12? I got it working, sort of. It's not reliable though, and very slow. It drops the connection a lot, and when I go to engage it it connects about half of the time and half of the time it won't see the Media Server. It also times out when trying to scan my (admittedly large) music directory on my PC.
    I'm sure that my hardware is ok, I think that DLNA is just a buggy system. But if anyone has it working properly with Windows 7 x64 and WMP 12 can you tell me exactly how you set it up?  And if you used another desktop app besides WMP can you tell me what worked for you?
    Thanks!

    Try setting it up like this.  Hope this helps!
    Start Device Manager.
    Windows 7 Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Device Manager.
    The following devices are normally installed:
    Anrdoid USB Devices
    My HTC
    Disk drives
    HTC Android Phone USB Device
    Modems
    HTC Modem (if using as a tethered modem)
    Portable Devices
    E:/ (Where E represents the assigned drive letter.)
    Universal Serial Bus controllers
    USB Composite Device
    USB Mass Storage Device
    If a red X, yellow ! or yellow ? is displayed to the left of a listed device, a conflict is present and the drivers must be updated or reinstalled.
    Driver conflicts may also be indicated by a device entry labeled Other Devices or Unknown.
    If a conflict is present:
    If using the HTC DROID Incredible ADR6300 as a Sync device continue to step 3.
    If using the HTC DROID Incredible ADR6300 as a Modem ensure the device drivers are installed. Refer to Downloading and installing VZAccess Manager for additional assistance.
    If VZAccess Manager is installed and a driver conflict is still present, continue to step 3.
    Right-click the device then click Update Driver Software.
    If using Windows 2000 / XP, right-click the device then click Update Driver.
    The device name may differ from the example shown.
    Click Browse my computer for driver software.
    If using Windows 2000 / XP, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) then click Next.
    Enter C:\Windows\System64\driver into the search window then click Next.
    The driver location can be entered manually or navigated to by clicking Browse.
    If the driver software is not found, a Windows Operating System update may be needed.
    Click Close.

  • Weird behavior with streamreader. How do I fix?

    I have a ~ 1 GB text file containing a line of text followed by 100 million lines each containing a prime number followed by a last line with a zero. I've used (read with streamreader) this file in several VB (2010) programs without problem.  This morning,
    I tried writing a simple program which would tell me what the greatest gap is between any two of the primes in the file. After I debugged (due to some silly logic errors which shouldn't be relevant) the program's behavior changed. It was reading the file but
    now all it does is find a single line, rather than 100 million lines AND the single line is the filename rather that what the first text line actually is.
    I open the file in Form1_Load sub as follows:
    Dim fr As System.IO.Streamreader
    Dim s As string
    fr = New System.IO.Streamreader("filename.txt")
    s = fr.readline
    and from that point I ran into problems when I used a RichTextBox to display (via .AppendText) the output using a While fr.peek >0 loop. I've previously run into the problem that writing to textboxes and richtextboxes take enormous amounts of time to
    run (hours, if not days)  while the same logic but directed to an output file runs in a couple of minutes. So, I closed the program (forced closed) and rewrote output to a streamwriter to a new filename. Since then, I can't get any real output from the
    file, even when I change output back to a textbox. The text file name is Primes1E9.txt and the first line is:> This file contains 102886524 primes, the largest is 2099999983 < and the second line is 2 then 3, 5, 7, etc up to 2099999983 followed by a
    line containing a 0. Here is the problem: when I attempt to read past the first line, the program causes an error (I can catch error in catch try block) or if I don't use a catch block then I get an unhandled error. AND the first readline tells me that the
    first line is Primes1e9.txt, which it is NOT. (again, that is the filename, not the first line of text). I've tried closing VS2010, shutting off my PC and rebooting, and deleting and replacing the copy of the text file, all to no avail: I continue to get the
    erroneous behavior. Windows explorer confirms the first 20,000 or so lines are correct in the textfile, but my VB2010 program isn't seeing it correctly for some reason. Any ideas?
    I use VS2010 on Win7 (64bit), files are on my E: drive (E:\<root> , specifically) with executables in the usual subdirectory (bin\debug).

    Hi
    The code below took 144 seconds on my system to read and fill a similar amount of data to the RTB.
    ' Form1 with RichTextBox1
    Option Strict On
    Option Infer Off
    Option Explicit On
    Public Class Form1
    Dim sw As New Stopwatch
    Private Sub Form1_Load(sender As Object, e As EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
    ' WriteDummyData()
    sw.Start()
    FillRTB()
    sw.Stop()
    Me.RichTextBox1.AppendText("Time: " & sw.ElapsedMilliseconds.ToString & "ms" & "(" & sw.ElapsedMilliseconds \ 1000 & "sec)")
    ' on my system it took 144 seconds to fill the RTB
    End Sub
    Private Sub FillRTB()
    Me.RichTextBox1.LoadFile(Application.StartupPath & "\Data\MyFile.txt", RichTextBoxStreamType.PlainText)
    End Sub
    Public Sub WriteDummyData()
    ' this created approx 1GB data text file
    Dim fn As String = Application.StartupPath & "\Data\MyFile.txt"
    Dim pp As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetParentPath(fn)
    If IO.Directory.Exists(pp) Then
    Using sr As IO.StreamWriter = New IO.StreamWriter(fn, False)
    For r As Integer = 1 To 100000000
    sr.WriteLine(r.ToString)
    Next
    End Using
    Else
    My.Computer.FileSystem.CreateDirectory(pp)
    WriteDummyData()
    End If
    End Sub
    End Class

I know the cams are working as i can view them on mobile phone via puffin browser.  I can play Youtube videos etc just fine. So why not the webcam?

    Internet Explorer 11 introduces a number of changes both to how the browser identifies itself to remote web servers, and to how it processes JavaScript intended to target behaviors specific to Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, this means that content on some sites will be broken until the content provider changes their site to conform to the new development approach required by modern versions of IE.
    You can try to work around these issues by using Compatibility View:

    If that is too inconvenient, using Google Chrome may be a preferable alternative.

  • Flash Player integrated with Windows 8 has stopped working...can't seem to upgrade to newer version Flash Player ?

    One day watched videos with no problem.  Next day, can't watch videos!  Site says I need Flash 10.0 or higher.  When I try to check what version I have, it says that Flash player is integrated with Windows 8, no need to install Flash Player.  I am thinking that there are newer versions of Flash Player than what is integrated with Windows 8, but it's like I'm going around in circles, can't seem to upgrade to a newer version.
