  • Buggy iPod or normal stuff?

    Hi, new Nano user here.
Couple of strange issues today which I didn't experience yesterday. Not sure what to make of them.
*When a track is playing, as I look at photos, every now and then, (though not every time) when I click through the photos using the fast forward/rewind buttons, the music jumps around randomly. Seems to pick sort of random tracks around the current one playing.
*During a "shuffle" play, I hit "menu" and the Apple logo came up, and the pod stopped playing. Immediately after, started up again when I selected a new song.
    Any ideas?

  • Is the IPOD with video reliable?

I personaly know 5 people with IPODs and 2 of those persons have had their ipods die on them. One was able to replace it through the warranty and one was not. I have heard through word of mouth that IPODs tend to break down a lot and the support is not very good. However, I would like to buy one. Is there some info available to suggest that these are reliable pieces of technology? Or some numbers to show Units sold vs. units that have broken? Thanks.

If it really were such a bad piece of hardware that 25% would break I think we've seen the last of Apple within due time.
    It won't even be 0.25% I guess!
I've currently got my 2nd iPod (5th gen. 60GB), I sold the former (4th gen) because this one came out, and must say I really love this piece of hardware.
Of course you might be that unlucky person having bought that buggy iPod which sneeked past final quality control but surely you'll get a new one if that's the case.
Don't base your opinion solely on what you read here: Most people visiting these kind of forums report a problem, you won't see that many posts here claiming: "Hey, I've got no problem, just wanted to say my iPod is doing fine!" even though this is, by a large number, the majority of iPod owners!
One thing to keep in mind though when going for an iPod: Protect the case! The one drawback of this generation is that its surface scratches way too easy. Buy a case or do as I did protect it with a shield. I myself am using "the invisible shield" (but there are others too) and must say it's the best I could've done: No more worries about scratching at all!

  • File or directory \ipod_control\itunes\itunesprefs is corrupt or unreadable

Every time I connect my ipod (30g video) to my computer it pops up the "ipod setup assistant". Then I get a message on the bottom right of my computer screen that says "file or directory \ipod_control\itunes\itunesprefs is corrupt or unreadable, please run chkdsk. I ran chkdsk and it didn't help. I'm sure this is an easy problem, but I am clueless. Can anyone help?

    Greetings,
What you want to do here is to Restore your iPod using the latest iPod Updater.
    Restoring: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
    iPod Updater: http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
We have been discussing the chkdsk issue since Nov 2004, when it was introduced by some particularly buggy iPod firmware.
For more info visit our thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=179452
and the Apple KB article on the issue: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300554
Feel free to post back should you require further assistance. There is a whole stack of information on the chkdsk issue, but I won't seek to bore you with it here...
I add a note of caution - in that chkdsk issues usually affect Gen4+ iPods, and you have a Gen5. If the Restore does not solve your problems, let us know. I have been consulting on some cases where a hardware fault was to blame, and the user had to get their Pod changed out...
    Kind regards,

  • Unable to connect to YouTube

Each time I try to run YouTube, I get the following message, "You must first connect to iTunes with an Internet connection to enable YouTube".
I have connected to iTunes and purchased a song. My firmware is up to date 1.1.2.
    Please help. Thanks

e2k3eng, most excellent! Your solution fixed my ipod touch (uninstalling all itunes and ipod updates from my computer)!
I set up 2 ipod touches on 1 computer, the first ipod worked fine. The second ipod kept saying "You must first connect to iTunes with an Internet connection to enable YouTube", even tho the ipod had a wireless connection and worked fine with safari as well as the itunes store program.
I restored the computer from an earlier backup, before any itunes had been installed on it. Reinstalled itunes, plugged in the buggy ipod, and tried accessing YouTube from the ipod. (Ya the ipod was still connected to the computer, don't know if this did anything, but it's the exact steps). YouTube worked just fine.
5 minute fix, really appreciate it! You saved me a whole bunch of digging thru the 'net.
You know, it really wouldn't take a lot of testing on the part of a company to actually try out these scenarios we run into, and have solutions beforehand. But I guess the bottom line is it won't make them any more money, and could delay product deployment (omg potential money loss), so why should they stick their necks out? ( 2 cents deposited ) ....ok..ok....at least they put up a forum!
    Hope this helps someone.

  • White Letterbox Bars, Cover Flow Scrambled

    Hi,
Just got a new 8GB iPod Nano (video). It's fantastic, but I noticed a couple of bugs:
When playing video in widescreen, the widescreen bars are white, not black
When playing video fullscreen, there's a 1-2 pixel white vertical line on the right edge of the screen
Cover Flow seems a bit buggy. I've had all my Album Artwork show up as scrambled pink noise, which disappeared after a Center+Menu reset.
    Anyone else noticed these bugs?

This is my first experience with Apple and this is the first time I have ever given them my money, and it was not a good experience. I think they forgot the Alpha and Beta testing of this ipod, they just built it and shipped it immediately.
That's unfortunate because typically Apple products are very reliable. But it seems this year (2007) especially, they've been rushing out unfinished products with a lot of bugs in them. The new iPod Nano is surely, at the moment, the most buggy iPod ever. As I've said in another post, it prevents my PC from booting into Windows! Hopefully they'll fix these problems soon.

I hate how apple leaves iPod touch 4g and iPhone 4 in the dark and basically force us to upgrade to newer devices. Apple could of done better with the update and needs to resolve these issues.

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • IPod nano 4th gen gone extremely buggy, constantly crashing and restarting

    Hi there people.
I've been an owner of an iPod 4th generation - 16GB model for about 1.5 months now.
Recently it seems that it keeps crashing on various occasions, such as:
Basically it crashes when I do almost anything whilst music is playing. Also, when I skip to the next song it sometimes (very often) skips twice, could be even three times and more (you can actually see a different cover art for a brief moment then it disappears, different one comes and disappears and so on). I've tried to restore with iTunes already but it actually made the problem worse (crashes more often, more buggy... etc.)
I've uploaded a little video on YouTube so you can understand what I'm talking about. The quality is to say the least, very bad (camera phone which doesn't seem to be very good at focusing) but it's definitely enough for illustration purposes. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXPVrZ3cVRc
I should also say that I didn't have this problem, at all, when my iPod was less "overloaded" (right now there is only 1 gig of free space, everything is allocated by music.) Would I really need to free space up (meaning, removing songs) to solve that problem?
    Thanks

The amount of data on you iPod shouldn't matter.
I would suggest you try using the 'restore' feature in iTunes. Plug the iPod in, and select it in iTunes, then click the 'retsore' button. This will erase anything on the iPod and reset it.
Then just resync the iPod and see if it continues to randomly restart. If it does, call Apple and have them replace it.

  • IPod touch rather buggy on iOS 8.p

    Hello,
I have an iPod touch and it's rather buggy on iOS 8, particularly the music app and is slightly slower now, I was wondering if iOS 8.1 will fix all these bugs, although they are small, together the decrease the overall experience. This iOS update does not seem to have gone through the rigorous testing others have.
    Thanks,
    Dylan.

Since iOS 8 does more all the time iths is new multitasking I would expect some slowdown especially with the older 5G iPod (as compared with the iPhone 6).
Ios 8.1 may improve the performance.
    Sometimes this helps:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

    - Restore from backup. See:

    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • Downloaded old version of iTunes because 7.0 was buggy-now iPod wont sync

So my iTunes version 7.0 or something was messed up, as were most peoples-I couldnt listen to any of the songs because they skipped so bad. So I followed the instructions on one of these forums and downloaded iTunes version 6.0.5 and imported all my music, it works fine.
But when I plugged my iPod in, it said my iPod needed version 7.0 or later to run, and its not showing my iPod in my iTunes. is there any way I can change the software on my iPod so it works with the older version of iTunes?
Id rather not wipe my iPod, because Im afraid Ill lose my files, but I do have them all in my iTunes...what should I do?

Sorry, but a fifth-generation iPod requires iTunes 7.x and will not work with an earlier version.
But many thousands of us have no problems with iTunes 7.x on their Windows systems, so perhaps if you try the latest version of iTunes, and ask for assistance here if you have problems, it might indeed work for you. Otherwise, your only other option is perhaps one of the third-party utilities such as Anapod, Ephpod, or Xplay for handling the transfer. I haven't used any of these, so I can't make any recommendations. These applications cannot connect to the iTunes Music Store, so unless you upgrade, you won't be fully supported and will not be able to purchase tracks from the iTMS. They also may not work with the most recent iPods, so confirm compatbility with your iPod model.

  • IPod touch 4 via BMW USB buggy after ios6 upgrade

My iPod touch 4 has less functionality through the BMW connector than it had before I upgraded the iPod from io5 to ios6.  In particular, there are 3 things that are wrong.
First, everytime that I plug it in, it always wants to play the first song in the ipod (when sorted by title).  Previous to this, the iPod was happy to keep playing whatever I happened to be listening to, even if it wasn't an audio file.  For instance, sometimes I would use the Audible app for the iPod.  And if I was in the middle of listening to a book, I could just plug in the iPod into my car and go on my merry way.  Now it always goes to the first song as soon as I turn it on.  It seems to ignore whatever I was listening to when I plugged it in.  I cannot listen through the Audible app.  The only workaround is the download the books from Audible and put them in a playlist.
Second, when I click on one of the numbered buttons on the radio (the one that is supposed to take me to the playlist corresponding to BMW # where # is the number I pressed) it always wants to play the first track in the play list, and not the last track that I had been playing.
Third.  When I try to advance to the next track, the stereo display says that I have moved to the next track (e.g., the display goes from 1-1 to 1-2) but the iPod continues to play the track it is on.  The advance does not work.  The up-arrow button on the steering wheel that is supposed to take you to the next track advances the stereo display, but not the track that the iPod is playing.  Previous to the update, I could skip tracks using the advance buttons.  The only workaround I have found for this it to edit the playlist prior to pluging in my iPod so that the file I want is the first file in one of my BMW playlists.  Otherwise I would have to listen to the all the files that come before the one I want to listen to.  This is silly.
I have a 2003 BMW with a 30 pin connector through the glove box that is supposed to let me listen to my ipod.  I have a iPod touch, 4th generation.  The connector is from around 2005.  It worked great with my first generation iPod touch, and with every version of the ios until ios6.

I did consider replacing the car.  But it seemed cheaper to replace the ipod.
The thing that did help was to erase all playlists from my iPod that did not start with BMW.  Once I did that, the old behavior was restored, and I've been happier since.

  • Are iPod 40GB's buggy?

    Hi,
Does anyone elses iPod 40GB crash all the time? Mine has gone down three times in less than a year. I have to bring it in, deal with the hassle and exchange it...am I the only one with this problem?

Is it the 3rd gen with the touch wheel? (4 buttons on top) If it is, mine was horrible. I had to replace it 4 times. The first 3 because it would connect to the computer once through firewire, and every single time after that, the computer would not recognize it. It would work through USB, though. The last time I can't really remember what problem was going on. If there's an Apple store near, it's so much easier than shipping the iPod in. For me they jus replaced the iPod within about 20 minutes.
But now I'm happy. It finally works!!

  • 7.0.1 No Longer Sees My Ipod

I installed 7.0.1 and now my 1st Gen Ipod is no longer recognized by Itunes. Windows still deals with it properly. I already went through the steps of restarting the service and uninstalling and all that. It was recognized without a problem in 7.0, but that was so buggy for me it was unusable.

    Hello robertfromlees summit,
Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like your iPod nano is recognized in Windows (or “Computer”) but not in iTunes. The following resource outlines this exact symptom, and steps that may help to resolve the issue:
