Buggy Mail in OSX Lion

I am quite dissapointed by what happens in Mail since Mountain Lion upgrade. So many strange primitive bugs that make everyday work very annoying. Is this "the most advance OS" ??
1) adding photos to email (actual size): you add some photos and message size still shows 10kb (!!), (unlike before), you have no control over message size as before (when changing to "large", the real size is suddenly shown)
(that Aperture, where it is set sharing /email /full size pictures/ adds in result just extremely small pictures in the mail body and is unuseable for direct adding photos in the mail is another chapter of strange bugs)
2) Inbox - your sent email to somebody's address is shown in Inbox as an email from the sender with your sent text - grouping by conversation (makes no sense)
3) When email is received where there are multiple conversations - in the preview pan on the left I don't see the preview of the last fresh email, but of some of the older ones  (not like before) - a bit uncomfortable and illogical. Only after clicking on it I see the fresh mail
4) After doing the search in the inbox and collecting the view to all the mails from a certain sender, I see all of them labeled by my name (the bold title) not by sender's name. Very illogical and also not like always before
5) Any created mailbox - sort by "TO" - no way ... I only see all (10 000 emails) with my name as a sender ... (no indication to whom they were sent) - that's absolutely horrible ..
6) With a setting - group emails as conversation , very strange groups are made: just because ONLY the subject is the same, I see grouped mails that has NOTHING to do with each other . I suppose that grouping the email by conversation - the subject AND the other person must be the same, otherwise it makes absolutely no sense
7) Sending 1 email (only 1 account) and I can see a progress line : "sending 2 outgoing messages" - all the time
8) moving larger amount of emails from one mail box to another is a nightmare: Mail freezes most of the time (rainbow circle ) etc. Today Inbox content started even flashing - previews and empty space periodically changing ...
Either I overlooked something in all the cases (then I deeply apologise) or I am strongly thinking about another email programme or OS ... Even some old outlook has not behaved like this ... Are the people from Apple not aware of it ?

Aperture setting:
Wanting to share the photo in the email:
This is the result :
It is incredibly strange and annoying and never happened like this before. Now I am unable to send photos directly from Aperture and have to export them first (very uncomfortable)
And regarding sorting emails by (date, from etc,) - if I select sort by TO - I still see only the (bold) name of the sender in all the messages (preview column), it does not change to addressee names ... Impossible to simply see all the mails you sent to somebody ... you see only YOUR name as a sender ... very weird ...
Other issues more clearly:
Selected: sort messages by conversation (messages should be grouped by conversation - that should be rather practical). You keep exchanging email with John Smith with subject Greeting. They in one conversation. But in the same conversation there are also included emails with the subject Greeting that you wrote to George Bush 3 years ago !!  It makes no sense. A "conversation" should be within the same subject AND the same people . Otherwise it is a mess without sense ...
(new in Snow Lion)
Messages sorted and grouped by conversation. You receive a message withing ongoing conversation. You look at the preview pane (column in the left). But in the preview you do not see the beginning and preview of the message that just came but of some older message in the conversation. To see the one which just came, you have to fully open the message. (before you naturally saw the preview and beginning of the message that just came)

how do you log into hotmail at work? via webmail interface? hotmail provides POP email access only when using an email clienet and you probably have Mail set to remove messages from server after downloading them. go to Mail preferences->account->advanced and check those settings. you can change them to leave messages on server or to remove them from server only when they are moved from the inbox.

  • Mail in OSX Lion : pop not OK

    Hello,
I was in OSX Snow Leopard and it was OK on the Mail program. (2 accounts hotmail, 2 accounts gmail and 1 account from my provider. (scarlet))
I upgrade to Lion yesterday. My pop account does not run anymore... I created it again but impossible to get my mails from Scarlet...

Same problem here and only with Scarlet, others Pop mails are Ok.
When investigating by doing a telnet on port 110 on pop.scarlet.be and doing the CAPA command, I see that the authentication is : USER SASL PLAIN LOGIN, that seems to cause problem to Lion mail.
When you try the same command on a working Pop server by exemple pop.skynet.be, the CAPA command gives you only USER.
I think the problem come from mail, as the same sequence was well understood under Snow Leopard, and the mail server works find with Thunderbird.
Normally after the CAPA command, it should sends the USER and PASS commands to effectively connect to the mail server, but it's not the case, it just send the QUIT command to end the connection.
The connection is done through a kCFStreamsOcketSecurityLevelNone.
Maybe it might help in the investigations.

  • Mail Box will not delete mail in OSX Lion 10.7, Mail Box will not delete mail in OSX Lion 10.7, Mail Box will not delete mail in OSX Lion 10.7

I am using Lion 10.7. When I delete mail from the inbox it goes to the Trash. But when I delete it from the Trash with the garbage button it disappears but does not delete. If I go back to it later it is still there. The only way I can delete it is with the edit delete command or high light it and delete with delete key one by one. Before I could high light all and click the trash button and they would go away.

    I had the same problem!
It means that your /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/iLifeMediaBrowser.framework/ is just not 100%
Replacing the whole framework would fix it, if you know terminal you can tar up the framework on a working machine and then replace your own.

Ramallo)  This same thing happened today when migrating a friend's laptop. THE SOLUTION: Inside the Library folder (Lion hides this folder now, so hold down the option key and use the Go menu in the finder — Library will appear in the menu. Go there.) you'll find the Mail folder. Inside the mail folder was another folder called V2. I simply took the contents of V2 and dragged them to the parent folder (Mail). When I launched mail again, everything was back to normal. As Apple says, "It's that simple!"

  • I need a mail server without SMTP authentification. Which is the right one? Or how to configure OSX Lions Mailserver?

    Hello folks,
our HP Scanner with email delivery is one the most used pieces of hardware in our office. Just scan and get delivered to your inbox. That works easy and perfect.
Unfortunately we had to change our standard mail server and now a prerequsisite is the smtp authentification. But the HP admin interface on the scanner does not allow to enter smtp auth credentials. It only supports smtp delivery without username/password. Now I have a serious problem. I cannot find any external provider that supports smtp mail delivery without smtp authentification (against spam of course, I understand that).
I have a OSX Lion Server running as a file server in our network. But I have no clue if there's a way to use it's mailserver without smtp auth.
Is there anyone who can help me out?
    Cheers,
    Joo-Chen

    Sure. Turn it on.
The default mode is to not require authentication. You have to turn on authentication if you want it.
Changing authentication on/off is a matter of clicking a radio button.

  • Mail - OSX Lion - Can't change font in mail list

OSX Lion seems incapable of changing the font in the mail list on the left side. The default is a horrendous, teeny tiny font. Going to Preferences > Fonts and Colors and choosing message list font reveals a font picker. All the other font settings work in this view except the message list font.
If you go to the "Classic" (aka ugly) view, your message list font changes work.
I am a big believer in software aesthetics, particularly in an app you are staring at all day.
Please, oh please, Apple tell me this is not a default behavior! At the very least, if is truly is impossible to change this, and the over-50 crowd must squint at mail all day, indicate somewhere in the prefs panel that this will not work in the new view.
I'm really hoping there's a solution for this. As cool as the new mail app is, this would be a deal breaker that would send me running back to Sparrow.

"changing the font in the mail list on the left side"
You can change the size of the font (just not the font type) here: Preferences - General - Sidebar icon size.

  • Troubleshooting mail 5.0 since installing OSx Lion

    Hi,
We had first snowlepard without troubleshooting and since we installed OSx Lion we got major problems with the sending feature in Mail 5.0 - the system is not connecting to the server when we put mail on sending - almost every time it's ends up with a message where I have to mark which "server" I want to use for sending but I want work out even if I try everything from MobileMe to smtp-address. Sometimes when I restart the computer and delete the account for the mail and set a new up again it can work for a short while.
I would be grateful if someone could respond with ideas how to solve it.
The serienumber is W8848L8M1AQ, version Mac OS X Lion 10.7.1 (11B26)
    Best regards
    John M

Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I am having a similar issue on my iMac 27" (2011).
Once the computer goes to sleep, Apple TV is unable to wake it up (I do have the "Wake for network access" Energy Saver option turned on).
I have to specifically login and "wake up" the computer before my Apple TV can see it.
Overall, I find Mount Lion to be much more stable and smoother compared to Lion - but this issue is very annoying

  • OSX Lion Mail - email account appending previous user's mail in "mailto:" section

So here is the issue I'm runing into.
I recently bought a MBA for my gf and she likes it.  I decided to set up everything in the beginning and download critical updates and this made me use my AppleID to sign in.  I was trying to make sure that the Macbook mail app was working  fine, so I used my gmail account to test it out.
Prior to handing the macbook air to her, I made sure I took out all my account information from the Mail settings.
Months later I started receiving reply emails that was intended to go to her.
Upon checking the mail receipt, it seems like my gmail account got appended to her "mailto:" part of the mail.  Obviously when her contacts reply to her, it would use the email in the mailto: part the email arrives at my inbox, not hers.
I thought this was just a one time occurence, but now its happening all the time and we're getting annoyed.
We checked through all possible settings and sub settings in the Mail application and found 0 trace of my gmail account.
So here is the list of my questions:
    How do I fix this?
If there is no fix, is it possible to reset the mail application back to its initial configuration?
I'm trying to find ways to fix this without formating the whole box.
The mail app is the native OSX Lion app, fyi.
    Thanks in advance!

Check the setting (See red arrows) in this pane of Mail's Preferences.
Make sure the right account is shown.

  • Migrate from Exchange Server 2011 to Mac OSX Lion Mail Server

    Hi all,
I'm looking to migrate from Exchange Server 2011 to Mac OSX Lion Mail Server.  I work for a company with roughly 30 employees and they use exchange for mail, contacts and calendars.  We want to take full advantage of OSX Server and to completly get off of exchange.
What are the best ways to do this?  Are there any tools available to help this process?

I agree with the points made by Strontium90. If you have any PCs then Apple's mail/contacts/calendar software is a poor choice. Kerio Connect as a mail/contacts/calendar server would not only support Macs but would also do a good job supporting PCs running Outlook.
If you are going to become a pure Apple site, then you could use just the Apple software and this would be cheaper than using Kerio. For 30 users this might be a suitable solution, however even in a pure Apple environment many people prefer Kerio. For example I find Kerio much more pleasent when dealing with email addresses across multiple domains, email aliases, email group addresses, and so on. Kerio also has built-in email archiving, that is keeping a record of all emails. Kerio also provides a web-browser client for accessing email, calendar and contacts. It is worth noting that as standard Mountain Lion Server no longer includes a webmail feature. While I personally find the Kerio webclient rather ugly it does work.
There are some annoyances I have with Kerio, firstly they have always charged a 'maintenance' fee for their software. This provided access to software updates, and in the past also provided access to Kerio technical support. Unfortunately they now only let you make two (2) support cases per year for that cost, and you now have to pay extra for any more cases. Also while they added support for EWS (Exchange Web Service) to allow using Outlook 2011 for Mac as a supported email client, they did a poor job of this so that it does not work properly with any other EWS compatible client. This means it will not work in EWS mode with Apple Mail, nor with Outlook for Windows. While there are other ways to connect these other clients, this seems a foolish move and there have been plenty of requests to fix this.
Apple's Mail client uses EWS to connect to a 'real' MS Exhange server.

  • Urdu Support: Does OSX Lion support Finder/Mail/System Menus in Urdu?

    Hello,
I have been trying to customize OSX Lion for a while, and while I find that it supports Urdu natively, there are a few hiccups:
I have set my System language to Urdu (Using the Languages & Text option in System Prefs)
I have set my Keyboard layout to Arabic (as the keyboard supports Arabic better, and they're closely related in script)
However, I have noticed that the System menus, Finder, Mail, etc are all still in English. Urdu is set as the only language, and English and other languages have all been disabled from System Prefs, and yet, the menus are all displayed in English only.
However, if I set Arabic as the first language, then all menus and even applications (an their respective menus) display in Arabic. I am beginning to believe that OSX Lion only partly supports Urdu. Is this true?

    HasnainSaleem wrote:

Yes, there is not yet any Urdu localization of the OS menus and dialogues.  Those languages for which this exists are listed directly in the published specs:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Since Lion does provide a keyboard for Urdu, I would be interested in the details about why you prefer to use the Arabic one instead.
