Bugs in ACR 6.1 Beta

I am using Photoshop CS5 Extended (English language) on Windows XP SP2 32-bit (currently in trial mode but will acquire a serial number soon). CPU is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+, RAM is 3 GB (4 GB installed), Graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 2600 Pro.
For me, the speed of Camera Raw's user interface clearly has improved over ACR 6.0 but still is significantly slower than ACR 5.7 used to be.
Two bugs I found when trying ACR 6.1.
The first bug was already there in previous ACR versions; I don't know then it was originally introduced. It's about the focal length range display in the panel right beneath the histogram. There, the aperture, the shutter speed, the ISO setting, and the focal length of the current image are displayed and, in the case of zoom lenses, also the range of focal lengths. And the latter is wrong for third-party lenses. Obviously ACR tries to derive the focal length range from the lens ID which however only works reliably when camera and lens are of the same origin (Canon lenses on Canon bodies, Nikon lenses on Nikon bodies, Minolta or Sony lenses on Sony bodies etc). For third-party lenses, in particular those of the Sigma brand, it does not work.
So please stop to try deriving the lens specs from the lens ID! Instead, try reading the lens data from the lens info tag in the XMP metadata first (aux:LensInfo; see namespace "http://ns.adobe.com/exif/1.0/aux/")! Only when the lens info tag is missing then you may fall back to deriving the missing data from the lens ID.
The second bug is about the drop-down lists for selecting a lens profile in the Lens Correction tab. When the Camera Raw window is extending right up to the screen's rightmost edge and when the profile names are longish (as they usually are) then the drop-down lists will partly be outside the screen area! So it will be impossible to read the profile names and to access the drop-down list's vertical scroll bar; you have to resize the Camera Raw window first in order to make room to the right.
So please adjust the position of the drop-down lists so they will always be displayed on the screen entirely!

Hi,
Thank you for pointing these out.
For #1: hopefully this will be taken care of long-term by the EXIF 2.3 spec with its new tags.
For #2: this is a known issue on Windows and I hope to have it addressed by the final version.

  • ACR 7.1 Beta & Photoshop CS6 Lens Profiles

If I open a Nikon RAW (NEF) file in ACR 7.1 Beta it correctly finds my Camera and Lens Combination Nikon D3 with the Nikon 24-70m f2,8 with the Adobe Lens Profile. However, when I leave ACR and the image is open in Photoshop, go to Filter, Lens Correction it does not automatically detect the correct camera and lens combination.
It shows the Camera Make as NIKON CORPORATION, but the Camera Model and Lens Model are not detected and I am asked to choose. In the Lens Profiles I see two choices, one for a Nikon D3x with the correct lens, the other for a generic Nikon Camera with a Sigma 24-70 F2.8.
I would have thought the detection process would have been the same?

I was just curious and hunting around ACR 7.1 and Photoshop trying our the features. Also I have found that LR4 RC2 has follows ACR 7.1 as far as lens profiles go working with RAW images, so there is some consistency.
Wonder what the difference is between a RAW rendered image in ACR versus a Photoshop rendered image. Given, I could be wrong here, that Lens Correction is based on the optics of the lens, focal length, and the characteristics of the sensor, so would they not be the same in ACR and Photoshop?
I think I need to go check out a lens profiler
    Cheers
    Mike
There is one reason that I may go back into the Lens Correction Filter and that might be to fine tune some of the persective tools. With a large panorama much easier to see what needs to be done rather than view seperate images, and i have done that in the past. did not come to me until after I had hit the Send Button

  • Photoshop CS6 won´t recognize ACR after installing ACR 8.4 beta.

    Hi all,
just today Adobe has relaeased the new ACR 8.4 beta. As usual I downloaded it, installed it to my Photoshop CS6 (running on a 2010 iMac/ OS is 10.6.8), and to my surprise PS no longer was able to find ACR at all. In other words: I could no longer open any RAW file.
I cranked up time machine, replaced the PS folders with those stored via time machine from a few days ago, restarted the computer and tried again, but the result is the same: PS seems unable to find Camera RAW.
Does anybody have an idea where the problem might lie? Any help is appreciated!

    Hi there,
    Very sorry for the inconvenience.
Camera Raw 8.4 is no longer supported on OS X 10.6.x (Snow Leopard). We first announced this back when Camera Raw 8.3 was released, here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/lightroomjournal/2013/12/camera-8-3-for-photoshop-cc-and-photoshop- cs6-available-now.html
This notice was also posted at the top of the 8.4 RC download page on Labs, here:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cameraraw8-4/
You can either upgrade your OS to OS X 10.7 or higher or uninstall ACR 8.4 and reinstall 8.3.

  • Help with Nikon D600 NEF files, CS6, and ACR 7.3 beta

I have been unable to open NEF files from my Nikon D600 in Photoshop CS6, and ACR 7.3 beta.  Any suggestions/guidance would be much appreciated.
RAW was set to 14 bit color, but I can't see that that would matter?

From discussion with others, it would appear that the files were corrupted during transfer.
I have some suggestions that I will try tomorow.
I have no problems opening old Nikon D700 NEF files in Photoshop CS6, and when ACR opens the file it indicates I'm using ACR 7.3 beta.
    Regards,
    Erich

  • ACR 6.2 Beta

I'm shooting with a Sony NEX-5. Is ACR 6.2 Beta available for download yet?
    Brian Smith

    Nope...
Camera Raw 6.1 came out just a bit over 1 month ago (June 1) and the time between updates is about 3 months (or so) so 6.2 isn't really expected as of yet. If the engineering team decides to do a public beta (not a guaranteed thing) it'll be announce by Tom Hogarty on the Lightroom Journal and available on labs.adobe.com.
Oh, and there's a forum dedicated to Camera Raw HERE.

  • ACR 5.4 Beta shows up with Japanese Text

    hi:
    1.  i just downloaded--> installed ACR 5.4 beta and DNG.
    2.  the DNG looks normal (ie just like the prior version etc...).
    3.  however, when i open up ACR, everything is in japanese text, including the photoshop headers etc...  no big deal at this time, because i'm sure this is going to be fixed and i know what all the sliders are about etc...    but just an FYI.

    thomas:
    1.  thanks for the info.
    2.  as per what the other person noted--> what you suggested isn't that easy (basically i'm stuck).
    3.  first of all, i was able to find--> download a prior version or ACR--> manually placed it in the correct spot--> fired up a RAW file--> everything looks normal (ie english text etc...).
    4.  i then downloaded ACR 5.4 and proceeded with the reinstall.   however at this point, the installer said that i couldn't install 5.4 because it was already installed in my cpu.    i manually looked as well as did a search for camera raw 5.4 in spotlight--> couldn't find it.    i also searched adobe photoshop help in re: unstalling things--> nothing.
    5. thus the question is:  how in the world do i uninstall camera raw 5.4 (i'm not even sure it's in my cpu but the installer thinks it is etc...).
thanks for your help.     harry shin
    6.  by the way, while i'm at it, in adobe bridge, 5.4 doesn't recognize my Olympus E-620 raw files (ie can't see the thumbnail image), but when i actually open up the image in ACR--> the image is there etc...  thus, there's also funky going on with bridge.

  • Uninstall ACR 8.6 Beta?

How Do I uninstall ACR 8.6 Beta from Photoshop CS6 to add final ACR 8.6?

The official way to uninstall ACR is to uninstall Photoshop or whatever Adobe product ACR came with.
If you have not been offered the non-beta ACR since the first of August when it was first available then there is something wrong with what is tracking the versions of things and an uninstaller would not necessarily help with that.   I mean, even if there was an uninstaller, you might uninstall ACR 8.6 RC and still not be offered any update and be stuck without any ACR.  So the ultimate solution is to reset things enough that the Adobe version database and processes to make everything work like it should, again.  I’m not sure exactly how to do this.  On way is to uninstall all Adobe products then run the CC Cleaner and then reinstall all Adobe products.
Without fixing the underlying issue, it might also should work to use the manual installers you can download from an Adobe HELPX page with direct links:

  • Bug Adobe Air 3.5 Beta with method "drawViewPortToBitmapData"

    Hello,
I noticed there is a bug with the lastest build of Air 3.5 beta with the method "drawViewPortToBitmapData".
It resizes the viewport that we want to draw smaller that the original size.
Can you correct this bug before the release ?
    Thanks,
    Loïc L.

This was an issue with retina iPad's prior to AIR 3.5  .. I saw this fixed as of AIR 3.5.  Altho it doesnt take a retina screen capture. It captures at 1024 x 768 and scales up to 2048 x 1536

  • Bridge doesn't recognize Oly E-620 files with ACR 5.4 Beta

    hi:
    1.  the good news--> ACR 5.4 is working well as well as DNG.
    2.  problem:  when i open up bridge (CS4), the new RAW files (example:  olympus E-620) don't show up as thumbnails.    i looked around in the preferences, but couldn't see anything that would fix this situation.   any help appreciated.
    thanks.  harry shin

    hi:
    1.  thanks for the reply--> but purging the cache didn't help.
    2.  in re: installation, perhaps there is a different way to install ACR 5.4, but all i did was run the installer.  ACR is certainly working within photoshop CS4 and thus i'm assuming that it should be working in bridge (?)
    3.  any further ideas appreciated.

  • ACR 6.1 Beta first impressions

Adding lens corrections to ACR really revolutionize the digital workflow.  For me, 99% of my travel photography processing will end in ACR, without having to pass through Photoshop.  Photoshop remains for the 'Spacials', where you need layers, etc.  It was said that ACR started as a Photoshop plug-in. It's getting to the point that Photoshop will be a plug-in of ACR.
Version 6.1 works well, with two minor issues:
There are no grid lines (at least I couldn't find them).  For perspective corrections, grid lines are helpful.  Workaround I used are the crop boundaries, but that's not very convenient.
The only camera I have, currently in the camera/lenses database is the Canon G10.  ACR doen't find it automatically (under the preview window it does say 'Canon Power Shot G10'). I must select 'Make: Canon', then the Model and Profile come up correctly.
I hope these issues will be solved in the release version, and the camera/lenses database will grow to include my assortment of Olympus gear.
    Moshe

ACR doesn't find it automatically (under the preview window it does say 'Canon Power Shot G10'). I must select 'Make: Canon', then the Model and Profile come up correctly.
    It does work for me.
You can easily correct this misbehaviour yourself:
Click the lens correction check box
Select Auto from the Setup list
Select the correct Make, Model and Profile, if not yet selected automatically
Click Save New Camera Raw defaults from the fly-out menu.
The next time you load a G10 image, corrections will be applied automatically.

  • Bug Fix ACR 4.6 RC and Sony A900 Metadata

I just shot some files with a Sony A900. Though I see that there is only preliminary support for the Sony A900 in ACR 4.6_RC and LR 2.1_RC, I thought I'd give it a try.
Both programs will build previews and adjust settings, however Metadata cannot be written, added, appended or synced in Sony A900 .AWR files in Bridge.
It is however possible to write or sync the metadata in the exact same .AWR files in LR 2.1_RC
    So one point for Hogarty...
    Brian Smith
    [email protected]

    Thomas,
Thank you for the quick reply.
When selecting a Sony A900 .AWR, this is what I have:
    File>Open With>Adobe CS3(default)
I have the same set-up for Canon .CR2
    ACR 4.6 is installed here:
    Library>Application Support>Adobe>Plug-Ins>CS3>File Formats>Camera Raw.plugin
One more thing, after saving the develop settings and metadata that I applied in LR2.1 then went back to Bridge and the previews update with the color adjustments and ratings from LR2.1 just as they should and if I select metadata view, the metadata also appears.
However if I go to the File tab, "File Info" is grayed out and cannot be selected. The same thing happens in the Tools tab, "Append Metadata" and "Replace Metadata" are grayed out.

  • ACR 8.1 beta Crop/Workflow Options change is inconvenient

I generally leave the ACR Workflow Options resolution set to default, and in the past have set the crop tool to a smaller pixel resolution, such as 1024x768.  I could then either run the image straight thru to Photoshop at full resolution, or apply a crop and save directly from ACR for proof/email lower resolution versions.
However it appears that in 8.1 the crop tool no longer has a pixel setting, now I have to set the resolution in the workflow options in order to save out a proof/email image.  If I want to run the full resolution image thru to Photoshop I have to click on the Workflow Options link and disable the resolution setting.  So I can't switch back and forth without changing workflow options, which requires more clicks, and is easy to forget; Is there a way to save multiple workflow options settings and select among them?  Such has been requested for a long time, but apparently is still not available.
    Richard Southworth
Added by edit - the new item in the Workflow Options is a Resize to Fit section, which can be enabled/disabled with a check box.  Is there a shortcut key to toggle, something quicker than going thru the link at the bottom?

I'm in the process of going through 1100+ images from a recent vacation, selecting and re-sizing for transfer to an iPad.  Actually the new arrangement is working out ok, I'm adjusting and cropping on the originals, then going back and doing a multiple save out at the desired resolution.  Most of my images are un-cropped, so this new configuration saves a lot of full frame cropping.
As long as I remember to disable the resize before moving images to Photoshop all is ok, even preferable.  Sorry I complained, nothing like using a tool to understand the pros and cons.

  • Lens Distortion for 18-105 Nikkor increases in ACR 6.4 beta

The lens distortion correction on an AFS DX Nikkor 18-105mm seems to INCREASE Barreling instead of decreasing it. To get rid of the barreling I have to cut back on the Distortion correction. Anybody else experiencing this?

What you say about overall usability is true (and unfortunate; all my film camera lenses, no matter how humble, had full control of all pertinent information), but I was referring to the corrections only.
So far as software is concerned, it won't perfectly make a silk purse ... but it comes damn close! Years ago, I did lens testing, for oscilloscope cameras, and the rigor even for that was very demanding. What I know about the conditions necessary for obtaining repeatable results during such testing cannot change unless you are willing to accept less than optimum results. The penchant to "Let software correct it" has some painful connotations!
Of course, the major source should be the lens makers themselves, but I fear this is a pretty guarded secret. No one wants to admit their failings, and because of the software correction capability, I suspect that certain parameters are of less concern at the lens tradeoff level. But Nikon or Canon isn't likely to tell you that!

  • Acrobat  CD Form Button Display incorrectly  when an effect  or transparency  is applied  Via indesign  Looks like a bug

I have tested existing interactive pdfs that function perfectly in Acrobat XI and Adobe acrobat Reader but open the same files in Acrobat DC and Acrobat DC Reader and most of the documents i have designed and produces over last few years have been renderer useless
Basically any interactive  form field wich uses  Effects,  Transparency  or  mode changes  like multiply  in every instance the  whole form element appear as a pixelated mess
I have been posting  in an indesign Thread  https://forums.adobe.com/message/7427566#7427566  it contains  picture and a sample document
Steve Werner has been helping  me   and has suggest  i post here too
    Graeme,
I downloaded your PDF file. I have both Acrobat DC and Acrobat XI Pro and I can confirm that I view it the same way that you do.
It clearly seems to be a bug. In the Acrobat beta group, most users are probably not InDesign users, and most of us who do use InDesign probably didn't create or test Show/Hide buttons using those forms of transparency. I'm sure it's not intentional, probably a side effect of some other change.
It needs to be reported as a bug. I'd suggest using the Bug Report form here:
Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
Also, there are several Acrobat forums. I'd suggest posting (if you haven't already) in the these two forums:
    Rich Media & 3D
    PDF Forms

It's good that you'll be submitting a bug. This sort of thing has happened before, and I think it's related some to the fact that InDesign is capable of generating field appearances that you can't set up in Acrobat (transparency in particular).
