Bugs in the Contacts Application

When I create a Group in the Contacts application, I do not seem able send that group an email.
I have tried to use the contextual menu to do that, and by dragging the list to the email window.
The group either does not show up or appears as an empty list.
Andy

First of all, when you say "the Contacts application," are you referring to Address Book? Address Book is the Mac (Lion) contacts database. If you are using something else, that probably explains it. Switch to Address Book.
Assuming you are using Address Book, then yes, you should be able to send to groups. You'll want to drag a group from Address Book into the To: or Cc: or Bcc: fields in a new mail message. (Also, I'm assuming you are using the OS/X Mail application -- if you are using something else, this may not work). Make sure you drop the group into the To:, Cc:, or Bcc: fields at the top of the mail message.
You can also just type the name of your group. If you have a group named "Family" as you start to type it (in the To:, Cc:, or Bcc: fields) it should autocomplete and give you an option to pick the group.
Also, be aware that in Mail's preferences (on the Composing tab) there is an option to "when sending to a group, show all member addresses." You'll want to check (or not) that box according to your preference.

  • Where is the data stored for the Contacts application in OS X 10.10?

My client uses Backblaze online backup, and recently needed to retrieve his contacts. Is the data stored in the app itself, or somewhere else? Backblaze doesn't back up applications by default. Is there a way to instruct Backblaze to back up the Contacts application?

    Thanks, lllaass.

  • How do I remove duplicate Google accounts in the Contacts application?

    I reinstalled 10.9.
I entered my iCloud credentials, and prevoius settings, including the Google account information appeared.
I tried to log in to mail.google.com and Safari asked to add this account, to which I confirmed.
Now I have two Google accounts in the Contacts application, but only one in the iCloud prefs. panel.
It is somewhat annoying, is there a mehtod to fix this?

The manual doesn't address it because there is no way to do it on the iPad. You can create groups in iCloud.com in a web browser, but that does no good either because the built in mail app will not let you use groups.

  • I've just came on board from Andriod and need massive help with the Contacts application any one out there willing to help the 'noob'?

I had the folks at the store port over all of my contacts from my old
ratty Andriod phone to my new shiny iPhone.
however all 200+ of my contacts sort of "shook" out,
meaning say John Smith, on my old phone,
had in my contacts the following:
    John Smith
123 Main St. Anytown, Anystate USA
    555-826-4879 home
    555-799-4247 cell
    [email protected]
    johnsmith@facebook
all nice and neat on my andriod but when it ported over
all that information was just scattered all over my contacts sort of like:
    john smith, smith john
john smith 123 main st. etc.
    johhn smith home 555 etc.
    john smith cell 555 etc.
    john smith johnsmith@ etc.
    etc.
so for all those 200+ contacts in my phone, I've got a zillion of them now...
so I'd like to get this all back in order before I and Siri explode.
I know nothing, and I know even less about outlook and the sort.
But I do know I am in Dire need of help with this... I figured that eveything else
involving iphones and apple in general was supposed to be cake but it seems
like this is the only thing that isn't cake at all... unless, I'm just a right idiot. (which is possible, hence spelling and grammatical issues).

I believe I've tried to sync it with google, but it didn't seem to take
muchless take my calender. it seems to favor my facebook calender
more over my google calender, but Siri seems to be helping me re-write
it...but that's not the game here, it's the contacts. I've tried to export
the cvp (??) list and import it into my iTunes account. However, It only
doubled my issue because it didn't over write my existing contacts.

  • I have 4 iCloud account groups appearing in the Contacts application

I have signed out of iCloud, deleted the internet account entry for iCloud, restarted my iMac and signed back in to iCloud services.  I have done this twice.

I found a solutiuon that worked for me from a different thread posted below.  The only thing I did differently was I moved the whole directory /AddressBook to my desktop.  When I launched Contacts after that, I saw that OS X created a new AddressBook directory.  I then went to iCloud and switched Contacts back on and boom I had all my updated contacts from iCloud WITHOUT duplicate groups!
    Back up all data.
Quit Contacts or Address Book if it’s running. If you use iCloud, uncheck the box marked Contactsin the iCloud  preference pane.
Triple-click the text on the line below to select it, then copy it to the Clipboard (command-C):
    ~/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/Metadata
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return.
A Finder window will open with a folder selected. Move the selected folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open for now.
Relaunch the application and test. If there’s no improvement, quit and put back the item you moved, overwriting the newer one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the item.

  • Question about the Contacts application...

I'm trying to organize my contact list. I have an All contacts, and separate for my husbands phone and mine.  I also have a Christmas list and I'd like to keep The XYZ Family as the name for that but not in my other contact lists.  Is that possible??

Any contacts you add to any group you create will also exist in All Contacts. So, if you name a group XYZ Family, the individual contacts for the members of that group will still exist in All Contacts.
Also, individual contacts can be placed in multiple groups. For example, Joe XYZ's card can exist in your contacts and your husband's contacts and in the XYZ Family group.

  • HT4623 Looks like a Bug in the Default Mail application of iOS 6 in an iPhone 4S

In the mail application of my iPhone 4S running iOS6, while composing a new email, the recipients field marked as "To: " doesn't respond in a single tap rather requires two or three and sometimes even more taps for the blue input bar to appear and enable typing of the recipient's email address.
I have tried resetting the iPhone completely to factory settings and erasing everything several times, but the problem still persists.
It has nothing to do with the suggested automatic recipient addresses as the field doesn't gets activated itself in first tap and the blue bar doesn't appear unlike all other fields such as, "Subject", Cc, etc. It looks as if the touch screen didn't get any feedback and hence returned no response.
Once after a few tapping trials, the blue input bar appears indicating the field ready for the recipient's address to be typed and then everything gets normal from there.
Rest all the applications and everything on the iPhone is working perfectly fine with no problems anywhere at all.
    Kindly suggest the necessary measures.
Also, I am facing exactly the similar situation with my iPod Touch 4th generation running on iOS 6 as well. This has made me conclude that it must be a bug in the mailing application.
Both the devices are only a month old. Also they are configured for different account s and have completely different dat from one another as the ipod touch is being used by my sister who has a separate masbook to sync it.

That connection is supported for tethering....

  • Contacts application crashes frequently

The contacts application on my Xperia Z1 Compact crashes frequently, and I've encountered crashes also on some other key applications of my phone. Just few minutes ago my the actual phone application crashed when someone tried to call me, when I pressed "OK", the led kept on blinking but there was no way to really pick up the phone.
Are these bugs known by Sony, or am I alone with them?

I also have the problem, I also did a search on the board and found some addtional threads, but there doesn't seem to be a real solution:
    https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1-Compact/Phone-and-Contact-application-keep-crashing-ALWAYS-...
    http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-Z1-Compact/Cannot-initiate-phone-calls-Contacts-break-down-on-s...
Somewhere I also found a thread for this problem for the (normal) Z1, so might not be only our phones...

  • Contacts application, where is it?

i have the older version (2.0?) of the iPhone, and I have seen people with the new version and the old version, who have the new update, and they have that 'contacts' application as its own selection on their main screen, without having to access it by going to the phone and then to contacts. how do i get that to show up? or what do i have to download(i just got the new update) to get my contacts in its own special little space? =]
    thanks

This feature was included with firmware update 2.0 so you should have it. This application cannot be deleted from the iPhone's Home screen. If you have a number of Home screens, have you checked each Home screen for the Contacts application?
There is no way to download this separately. If you don't have it available, I suggest doing a Restore with iTunes. Be sure to sync your iPhone with iTunes immediately before restoring to update your iPhone's backup if needed.

  • Contacts application broken, how to reinstall it

I can create contacts in the Contact application, but it doesn't save it. when I restart the applicatio everything disappeared.
I tried to import contacts but it doen't create anything neither.
Fresh install of Mac Os X 10.9

If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
    Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if it frightens you, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • Contacts created from recent calls not showing up in Contact application

recently added contact from recent calls section.  Tried to find contact in the Contact applicaton and it wasn't there.  I was able to find it by searching the phone and the name came up when I received a call from the contact again.  How do I get it to appear in the Contact application for easier access?  Do I have to create the contact in the CONTACT APPLICATION for it to appear?
    Thanks for your help.

After calling Verizon, here is a fix that worked for me.
1.) Look at your contacts information on the iPhone. If your phone numbers are not formatted with the parentheses and dashes, and are just a string of numbers like this: 1234567890, it likely means something went afoul in the initial sync. This is a good indicator that the following will work.
    2. BACKUP YOUR IPHONE ON ITUNES before you go any farther. You may eject the iPhone at this point or leave it connected. I left mine connected to my desktop.
    3. Then go to Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings. You will receive a prompt or two to make certain this is what you want. Proceed.
    4. Let the Reset process conclude. It may take a couple minutes or so.
    5. You will have to go through the re-activation process afterwards. Slug through it.
    6. When all that is finished, reconnect your iPhone (if you disconnected it after backup).
    7. When asked, select "Restore iPhone from a Backup". Let the process finish.
    8. Now, check your contacts. If instead of seeing a line of numbers for your phone entries, you see a number properly formatted like this: (123) 456-7890, then you have likely solved your problem.
    9. Try calling your iPhone from a phone that is in your contacts list and see what happens.
    10. If this doesn't work, you will likely have to call Verizon or Apple. The Verizon tech support agent said that the issue has been sent to Apple for resolution. It may be something amiss in the initial install of iOS to the Verizon phones. Who knows, but this is defnitely a software issue of some type.

  • Contacts application problem after iOS 5

    Hi,
I have a problem with the contacts application on my iPhone 3GS after I installed iOS 5.
I can't add contacts or edit the contact's I already have on the iPhone. The "+" symbol which was in the right coner is not there.
Have anyone a solution for this. I already tried to install the backup again, but it didn't helped.

You don't have to actually restore the whole phone like everyone else said.  I went to another forum because I wanted to avoid restoring the whole thing.  Just make sure that your contact is in sync with iCloud.  This can be done by going to your settings, then iCloud, then turn on your contacts.  If you have problems setting up an event on your calendar as well,  do the same thing through iCloud, by turning calendar on.
Check back with your contacts and the plus sign should appear.

  • I cant find the number of contacts in my iphone IOS7 by either going in thru the contact appl or the phone

How can I find the number of contacts in my iphone. When i go in thru either the contacts application or thru the phone i don't see the number at the bottom of the contacts. I have IOS7. I also saw in one of the postings that you could find it thru the Group in the upper left hand corner but I don't know where to find that. Thank you for your help

If you are a Verizon user try this:
Open the phone and dial *228. This is a Verizon over-the-air programming number.
When the system answer press 1 for "Program or activate your phone"
Wait for the call to disconnect. You should get a prompt stating "Settings updated."
Double tap the Home button to bring up the recently used apps list at the bottom.  Locate the Phone, Message, and Contacts apps, swiping if necessary, and press and hold until they jiggle then press the red minus sign to stop them.
    Wait a 3-5 minutes.
Try your phone again and see if it's fixed.

  • Contacts application displays nothing.

Since installing 10.8, the contacts application has nothing in it at all. Can't even add contacts. Have reset the computer, and disabled and re-enabled iCloud, but to no avail. Anyone else had this problem?
    Cheers,

This seems to be a somewhat common problem when going from Lion to Mountain Lion and storing contacts in Apple's Cloud.
I've seen the same complaint on two other forums.
But the steps listed in the Apple article above may be overkill.
Referencing the Apple article for file locations, others are saying all that's required is to delete the Address Book folder in the Applications Support folder and then restart the Contacts app. Another person said what worked for him was to trash the the same Address Book folder and the two Prefs files.
If I had this problem, I'd start by deleting only the Address Book folder and see if that works. That's drop dead easy to do and quick.
It's not like you're going to lose anything by trying. Everyone has said their contacts are still intact when going to iCloud.com so it's an access problem. You can confirm that by signing on as a different user and opening the Contacts application (and entering the correct Apple ID info of course).

    Hello jayanand,
You may need to force close all open apps, then restart the phone. If necessary, you may need to reset the phone after that.
