Bugs invaded my W700ds screen

I posted a question in Lenovo’s Facebook group and was asked to post it here!
Many of you might have heard about small bugs finding their way into TFT screens it happens every summer and I thought it only was a problem on cheap TFT´s, until it happened to my ThinkPad W700ds.
The bugs are called Thrips but also go by: thunderflies, thunderbugs, storm flies, thunderblights and corn lice (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrips) they are very small and are attracted to light and heat and when they find their way inside an LCD panel (between the LCD screen and the backlight diffuser) they die and are stuck in place, I have three in my W700 screen now!
They only invaded my ThinkPad W700ds even though I have 3 ThinkVision Monitors (4421-HB2) right beside it!
Here is the video I posted on Facebook of one of them
Have anyone else had any of their screens invaded?
What is Lenovo’s stance on this is the panel wrongly assembled?

Why you think that this is Lenovo-specific problem is beyond me. All consumer-grade laptops and monitors are very vulnerable to them, not just Lenovo.
I live in the thunderflies-danger area and have friend with different brand laptop being ruined by them die inside a screen.
I just had one crawl inside my Dell monitor at work 3 weeks ago, luckily it got away.
What do you expect them to do? They can not hermetically seal everything, and as long as smallest gap exists, thrips can get in.
Or, to be more precise, hermetically sealed laptops do exist. These are "ruggerised" (ie dust-proof) laptops and look of how much more expensive they are because of added protection & complexity it means.

  • Bugs! in my screen

During this lovely hot summer weather thunder bugs have invaded my flat screened imac. i mean real bugs! They have now died but they have been left stuck to the inside of my screen.
Anyone got any easy solutions to this? my nearest dealer is a long way away and I not keen to hand over my mac for such a simple problem.

I cracked open several iMac G5 flatscreen before and there is no way a bug can get inside that, even if they are tried, they will die trying, and killed by iMac heat and fan before could get into the screen.
If you meant is flat panel iMac G4, it could be happening but this is the first time I read about it.
Could you post a picture so we can analyze and give you proper suggestion.
Try also iMac forum, maybe they have different opinion and more knowledge about your mac.
    Good Luck.

  • IOS7 has some bugs, Swipe changing lock screen! iphonehassomebugs

    Hi everyone,
    Iphone has some bugs(Part 1)
Check this video for my very first bug experience,
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK_nIq4b82s&feature=youtu.be
    Steps to reproduce the issue:
    1. Keep the lock screen wallpaper and the home screen wallpaper different,
    2. Swipe right to unlock and swipe to the left immediately after you reach the right-end. Watch video for more reference.
Other bugs on the way! .
    Regards,
    Sathish.

Hmm, I have different wallpapers (one of my photo's for my lock screen and and just plain black for my home screen) and mine still does not do that.
Try setting them both to something different, but simple - say different colors of one of the default screens.  Or just try one any pair of the default screens instead of your own custom pictures.  Does it still do it?  I cannot seem to get my iPhone to duplicate that no matter what I try with it.
You can submit the info to Apple at http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html  but try and give them as much details as you can, of anything you have tried that either does not change the abnormal behaviour or that does fix it.

  • Small Bug trapped behind my screen!

Today I turned on my computer only to find a very small spec moving around my screen. I looked closer and it was a tiny bug moving around. I went to flick it off the screen but when I did- I realized it was actually UNDER the glass! It moved over to the black bezel then moved back onto the screen. Then I walked out of the room praying that it would come out of the screen, only to come back to see that it had died right over my System Preferences icon in the dock. I can definitely tell that this is not a dead pixel and it can be seen even when the screen is off. I am very worried because I just bought my macbook pro at the end of june. What should I do?

Considering these screens are meant to be sealed, there's an awful lot of reports about this kind of thing - indeed, in the next couple of weeks I'll be having my fourth (count 'em!) screen on my mid-07 manufactured Macbook Pro, all of them having had bits of dust in them. I do a fair bit of photo editing on my machine, so it's a bit of a pain, to say the least.

  • Windows 8.1 U1 bug with unresponsive start screen when fast-switching users

While testing out the bug described here ( http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/c9a3c605-9e7f-47ce-84ec-791a1627ebf0/windows-81-u1-hiding-taskbar-in-multimonitors-setup-bug?forum=w8itprogeneral ), I've found another bug - if the secondary
monitor is lower than the main one, start screen becomes completely unresponsive when fast switching users. You can click on any tiles, on start in lower left corner or try searching apps - it does nothing. Here's the screen recording http://1drv.ms/1k8au8O
. The secondary screen is usable at the same time, and sometimes you can run start screen on it (in such a case, it disappears on main screen and appears on secondary screen, but is also unresponsive), or you can't click at start icon at all (it appears highlighted
in the taskbar and doesn't response to clicks).
MSFT's testers should test such a setup a bit more, I think.

    Hi,
What’s your meaning of secondary monitor is lower than the main one?
I test the dual screen, fast user switching works good, so what’s your condition?

  • [SOLVED] gnome-screensaver bug? unintended lock screen behaviour

Everytime I close my laptop lid, the screen locks. I am fine with this EXCEPT when I am using two screens. I watch movies with my laptop and I like to close the lid because it blocks my reciever from getting the signal from my remote to change the volume. With gnome 3.4, I have not been able to do this unless I disable lock screen completely.
    [conner@arch-laptop ~]$ gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power
    org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power active true
    org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power button-hibernate 'hibernate'

    org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power time-action 120
    org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.power time-critical 300
As you can see in the middle of this code block that closing the lid is supposed to do nothing but that is not the case. What I want is for the screen to lock when I close my laptop lid only if there is one screen or not at all. I could disable the lock screen completely through gsettings but that is not what I want either. Any help would be much appreciated and no I do not want to use xscreensaver

bump. any ideas. has this bug already been reported?
Edit: Found a way to fix this. Go into brightness and screen, then change lock off when screen turns blank. So basically, changing laptop lid close in gnome tweak tool or in gsettings to nothing doesn't matter since in the brightness and lock, the setting is to lock screen whenever it is turned off and obviously the screen is turned off since closing the lid does on just about every laptop. Marking as solved.

  • Flex Bug - Cannot display full screen video in a new window

My top level application consists of a login screen. When the user logs in successfully, the main application is closed using "this.close()" and a new Window() is opened. Inside the new window I've added the VideoPlayer component and specified a source.
When I run the application, everything worked as expected. However as soon as I click the full screen option on the VideoPlayer, Flex says:
Error: Error #3200: Cannot perform operation on closed window.
        at flash.display::Stage/desktop_set_displayState()
        at flash.display::Stage/set displayState()
        at spark.components::VideoPlayer/fullScreenButton_clickHandler()[E:\dev\4.x\frameworks\projects\spark\src\spark\components\VideoPlayer.as:2233]
Inside the VideoPlayer.as file I've found what I think is the problem:
    2204: // add as a popup
    2205: PopUpManager.addPopUp(this, FlexGlobals.topLevelApplication as DisplayObject);
I commented out line 2205 and added a new line:
    PopUpManager.addPopUp(this, parentApplication as DisplayObject);
However I get the same error and it still says the problem is at line 2233 as well, even though line 2233 now reads (due to the additional line I added above):
// TODO (rfrishbe): Should we make this FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE if in AIR?
I cleaned my project via the Project menu but I still get the same error message. Any idea how I can resolve this problem?

    Doesn't anyone know?

  • [BUG] first keypress when screen is dim does not go through

If you have a program such as Messaging open and let the screen dim by not being active for a while and then go to enter text, the first keypress is lost.  It appears that the first keypress resets the screen timer and brings the brightness back up to full, but this can be disruptive for a user who is trying to enter text.  The problem is exacerbated by the fact that the second keypress causes a capital letter to be entered, requiring two presses of the backspace key to remove the letter and start again.

Have you tried a reset to see if that helps ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Also do you have any problems when multi-tasking gestures are turned off ?

  • [SOLVED: bug in ati drv] Screen flickering in Arch on reboot/shutdown

    Hi, everyone!
I have just installed Arch (after N hours -- a little hard after fedora) and most things seem to work fine. However sometimes when I reboot/shutdown the machine, the screen starts flickering, showing horizontal stripes (just like a TV with bad signal).
The computer is Compaq Presario V2615US (AMD Sempron 3000+, ATI Radeon Xpress 200M, widescreen, laptop). The kernel and X are 2.6.28-ARCH and 1.5.3, respectively. I am using the ati (which in turn invokes radeon) driver in my xorg.conf. The Xorg.0.log shows no errors...
The problem seems to be correlated with the wireless networking, when I manually connect to a network with iwconfig (because I have never seen it, while using the cable). I had the same (unresolved) issue in Fedora 8 with X 1.3 (basically, this was the reason for me to switch to Arch).
Have anyone encountered similar problem? I also tired to install the catalyst driver from AUR, but it requires catalyst-utils, which in turn needs Xorg 1.6 wierd...
    Thanx in advance,
    Leonid.

My screen flickers when I reboot or shutdown from the Desktop.  A pulsating flashing across the top half inch or so of my screen.  If I killall X from the command line and the shutdown or reboot from the login screen, (kde), it doesn't flicker.  After reading your post I tried shutting down eth0, and even removed the module.  No flicker.  So you are right.  Did you find a solution?  I am using intel from testing, but have had the same or similar problem since installing a couple of months ago.

  • THRIPS!

So, my W520 has a pretty big thrips (Little bug thing.  Apparently the singular and plural words are the same thing.) in the upper left corner of the screen.  Will lenovo's warranty cover this?  If I have to fix this myself (I've taken laptop screens apart before) does it void my warranty?  I'm only asking as I got this laptop only about 2 months ago and I don't want to void the warranty.

You might want to take a look at these threads:
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Bugs-invaded-my-W700ds-screen/m-p/267446
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/W-Series-ThinkPad-Laptops/Bugs-In-Screen/td-p/260309
So by the looks of it Lenovo doesn't cover this under warranty, and you also cannot fix it by yourself, because you would most likely destroy the LCD panel in the process.

  • How to squash a nasty screen blackout bug

    Hi Mac experts,
I've been trying, without success, to squash a nasty Mac bug that causes my screen to black out during work or causes it to never wake up after sleep, the latter being more frequent. It's supremely annoying since it interrupts work a couple of times a week and, embarrassingly, happens more often during public presentations, possibly due to the 2nd screen. In some cases a single hard reset revives the MacBook, in others I have to reset several times for the screen to become accessible again. When the bug happens, the OS is still running (key feedback sound, keyboard backlighting can be adjusted) but the screen is completely black.
It's been an unfixed bug through several OS versions from 10.8, 10.9, to the latest 10.10 (Yosemite). The usual remedies suggested in forums did not work (see below). I'm out of ideas here, hopefully you are not.
My specs: MacBook Pro Retina 15'', purchased 2012.
My recent crash reports can be viewed here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B_EEMeI_SbKxMlZSVHhXdm1QZWs&usp=sharing
    I have tried the following:
udpates did nothing; crashes under all OSs (10.8, 10.9, 10.10)
reinstalled 10.9 fresh and migrated my data; still bugged
startup in Safe mode (disables kernel extensions); crash on the same day
adjusting the energy prefs (disable switching, deactive all additional wake up conditions); did nothing
SMC and NVRAM resets did nothing
This is a bug shared by many users. Apple obviously is not fixing it. One user reported that in his specific case it wasn't a hardware issue. Replacing the motherboard did nothing (http://bit.ly/1E5cEAR). Here are some related reports:  forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1722832 (2014-4; solution: detaching from ext. screen before sleep), discussions.apple.com/thread/6014780?start=0&tstart=0 (2014-03; not resolved), discussions.apple.com/thread/5665501 (2013-12, not resolved), discussions.apple.com/thread/5548226 (2013-11 to 2014, not resolved), forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1553654 (2013-03; solution: removal of Bresink driver), bit.ly/1wdVO1C (2012-8, problem w Bluetooth, fixed by OS update 10.8.1),..
I hope somebody has a suggestion. Looking forward to your expert insights.
    All the best

  • 17' Replacement Screen. A bug caused it.

Literaly, a little bug was walking underneath the LCD film. So when LCD was turn on there was, a anoing bug walking through the screen. I open the Imac G5, and I could get the bug out of the LCD. Worst, I broke one of the bus cables that goes from the LCD film to the little board that lies under the aluminium casing covering the LCD. Now the screen turns half (with colored lines).
Considering that I know now how to dismantle the whole Imac G5, I need to get a LCD replacement. Where can I get this? (and much does it costs?)
BTW, I live outside US, so I would really need the replacement, I can't bring the Imac to an apple store.
    Thanks in advance,
