Buid 6.0.0.47 - Dreaded - Unknown Error Reported

I am no longer able to sync with my contact manager after upgrading from 4.5.  My system is Windows 7, 64 bit and I have tried all the troubleshooting fixes on the Blackberry web site to no avail.  I am really disappointed in this 'buggy' release and the lack of responsiveness from both Verizon and RIM.
Today I cleaned out the old program and reinstalled the new and am still getting the dreaded "unknown error reported" evertime I try to congfigure the sync utility?

When I try to synchronize in my Blackberry Desktop Manager a window pops up that says "Unknown Error Reported". I was able to sync only once when I first installed the desktop software and when i opened it the next time this error started showing up. Any ideas is greatly appreciated.

  • Action engine loading configuration...Unknown error reported

When I try to synchronize with my computer, I get "Unknown error reported" after it attempts the "Action engine loading configuration..."
I uninstalled and reinstalled the Desktop Manager software, and I was able to synchronize once, but the error reappeared on subsequent attempts. I really don't want to uninstall and reinstall the software every time I want to synchronize.
I deleted the Intellisync folder and restarted the software and the computer, but this did not solve the problem.
    Please help!

Try deleting the Intellisync folder and then synching again to see if you still get the error
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB11703
You can also try performing a clean uninstall of the Desktop Manager. Then installing it again.

  • Unknown error reported

I just installed the desktop software for my new Blackberry.  I installed it on my computer at work.  I had to get our computer administrator to allow me to install the new software.  I don't have administrative privileges under my login.
I keep getting an "unknown error report" when I try to set up synchronization.  Do I have to have administrative privileges on my computer for the desktop software to work?

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Here is a KB that discusses that error message along with several possible causes/solutions. Hopefully one of them will help your situation. It is entirely possible that your suspicion is correct, however.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Dreaded Unknown Error 4261

I have just downloaded the latest itunes, and whenever I attempt to burn a disc, the program runs through the entire playlist, and then, instead of finalizing, cancels the burn and displays "Unable to Complete Burn. Unknown Error Number 4261." It is absolutely maddening! I have tried everything, including the free download "RegCure", and nothing has worked! I can still download my stuff in Windows Media player, but 99.8% is in iTunes---and I don't like coming to the office just to listen to music---its inconvenient. Has anyone had any luck defeating this monster---its obviously an iTunes problem with Windows.

I'm hoping that someone from iTunes regularly looks through these, or someone from Dell, or just someone period. Here are the diagnostics from my burner. The only thing I have not tried is uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, because I don't know how to do that and not lose the music I've purchased.

  • On new MBP, wont download pdfs from secure sites, like banks. "unknown error" reported. Using Acrobat.

Recently started using a Macbook Pro, formerly ran Firefox on a PC. Installed Acrobat and it works fine, and will download pdfs from internet fine, UNLESS it is from certain sites, that as near as I can tell have in common that I needed a password to get in (eg, Bank, insurance company). At this sites I can't download a pdf file, and am told that an "unknown error" occurred and I should try saving directly link to the disk. But this doesn't work either, it just wants to save a .cgi file, not the pdf. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Did you try to save that cgi file and give it a .pdf file extension?

  • Intellisync Unknown error reported

I have a new Verizon Storm 2, Windows XP and Office 2007. I am unable to synchronize to outlook.
I have seen a number of reports with this exact log but no solution, tried everything from deleting the intellisync folder to complete reinstall of Desktop Manager.. spent 4 hours on the phone with RIM. They say it looks like a Microsoft bug, Reinstall XP. This is normally a we have no clue kind of admittance.
I also tried a new id on the system. Not sure what to try next.

    Hello Pragmas,
I would recommend to uninstall BlackBerry Desktop Software http://bit.ly/aMZYJL along with both copies of Outlook. Make sure you have all the disks and instructions on clean uninstall of Microsoft Outlook. Once complete reinstall only 1 version of Outlook and install BlackBerry Desktop Software and configure the sync.
Thank you and let us know how you make out.

  • Yes, I have the 'intellisync unknown error reported' issue too.....

Hi everybody and sorry for the blast about this well known error that a lot of people are faced against! I run a Windows XP SP2 OS hosting Outlook 2007 SP2 which updated an already existing Office 2003. I also have my Bold9000 and DM 5.0.1. Same error as reported by lot of people. I try to synch office calendar and receive this error. I followed all the steps that I found here and in other sites. So the question is: what is the 'state of the art' of the solution for such error as I assume that it is a windows related issue and not a DM one? Has anybody received some fresh tip from RIM support to bypass this situation? Thanks again and have a nice day!

    EJNIV wrote:
If anybody from RIM is monitoring this thread, I sure wish somebody could address this, aka fix it.
    Hello!
Just to set the expectation properly -- these forums are a user-to-user support channel, not a user-to-RIM conduit. As such, it is unlikely that they will see what you have written. However, if you have specific and constructive ideas for them, I have heard that they accept such via email to [email protected]
Front line support for BB's is, by contract, not provided by RIM. The carriers and authorized resellers are responsible for front line formal support to end users. It is possible to bypass your carrier and seek assistance direct from RIM, but such involves fees since you are bypassing your support agreement with your carrier. The "Support and Services" tab toward the top of these forum pages provide information about that. But, if you do go through your carrier for support, they can escalate into RIM at no fee to you if they so choose to.
    Best!

  • Can't "Config Sync" "Unknown Error Reported"??? HELP PLEASE!!!

I am virgin in the BB world but really want to make this work for me.  I work for a company that has an Exchange Server for its outlook and I can get the e-mails through our Outlook Web Access.
I have setup the software on my personal computer at home and it works fine!
When I got the IT dept (with their admin rights) to load it on my company laptop the sync failed.  I can't even Config it.
Like I said I really want this to work, more so I can stick it in IT's face cause they say it can't be done.  Now just for clarification I understand that through OWA I can't "auto sync" if you wish the contacts, tasks, and calender thus my desire to have the software working properly.
    PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME!!!
BTW...I am running in the computers...
     - XP SP3 with outlook 2003 on the laptop @ work
     - XP SP2 with outlook 2002 on the Desktop @ home
     - The BB is a Curve 8330 through US Cellular

I would recommend downloading the BB USB drivers listed in this link:
    Download
I would also upgrade to Desktop Manager 4.5 here is the link:
    https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads/entry.do?code=A8BAA56554F96369AB93E4F3BB068C22
Save both to the PC and then they are self opening .exe files. remove the old Version of Desktop
Install new version, the version USB drivers, reboot PC , do a battery pull on BB WITH the pone on. Replace the battery and when the PC programs are ready, plug the USB into the BB device and start Desktop software.

  • Unknown Error when starting the Group Policy Editor

On Windows 8.1 Professional, I opened the "Edit group policy" from the control panel and also tried to start gpedit.msc from an elevated CMD prompt. In both cases I get the following error message:
In English: Failed to open GPO. You may not have appropriate rights. Details: Unknown Error
There it is again - this dreaded "Unknown Error" message - telling me absolutely nothing about the cause of the problem.
In the past I have been able to launch the GPE on that machine without problems. I can absolutely not remember having messed around with the system files or registry settings. So there is no suspicious thing I could have done to break something. I had a
look at all copies of the GPEDIT.MSC in an editor but none of them looked broken in any way.
I startet C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\MMC.EXE C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\GPEDIT.MSC using the debugger of Visual Studio and paused execution after the error dialog had poped up. I got this call stack:
gpedit.dll!ReportError(struct HWND__ *,unsigned long, unsigned int,...)    Unknown
      gpedit.dll!CComponentData::Load(struct IStream *)    Unknown
      mfc42u.dll!CWinApp::ProcessShellCommand(class CCommandLineInfo &)    Unknown
I had configured the debugger to break on all exceptions but as you see yourself, MMC is an MFC 4.2 app that doesn't use exceptions.
Since I get no access to the symbols of gpedit.dll, can anybody please tell me which conditions - i.e. problems - in Load() are handled by simply returning E_FAIL? What could be wrong with my machine?

    Hi,
Consider the corrupted local policy files and system files, please try these steps:
Step 1: clear local GP by running these commands:
    RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicyUsers"
    RD /S /Q "%WinDir%\System32\GroupPolicy"
    gpupdate /force
Step 2: To scan system files by running this command as admin:
    SFC /SCANNOW
Andy error, please post back the CBS.log
Then, restart the computer to check the results.
Also, the event log (Open local event viewer) will show something related to this issue, please check event under
Windows log\Application and Applications and services log\Microsoft\Windows\Grouppolicy, post back if you find any error about this issue.

  • Publish Error (unknown error)

    iWeb 3.01
So I decided to break my site into two sites after upgrading to '09. I broke a 360 page blog into a separate website. I did this by simply dragging the blog down to the new website in the navigation window. All links in the blog appeared to update and looked like they would still work. I did have to update references to the blog in the original site.
I published the original site minus the blog in two tries (which is not bad these days), but the second site will not publish. I get the dreaded unknown error. It will not publish to a local hard drive or to Mobile Me. When publishing to a local hard drive the main landing page publishes, and works, but as soon as it get to the main blog page the error comes up. When I examine the resulting site as published to a local hard drive I can get to the blog summary page, but instead of a summary there is the following text: Blog Summary Widget. This is not my text and seems to have been placed there by the build.
    Any ideas?
(I don't really want to combine it all back together into one site like before because the whole iWeb experience is so buggy and fraught with problems I'd rather just keep what is working now working.)

Thanks - Yeah, I have backups. That's an interesting idea. My hypothesis is that it will be successful, at least to a hard drive, and I don't want to test it beyond that right now for obvious reasons - heck, the blog was published online until I tried to outsmart the new software so I know the blog data is good enough to work. But even if this is successful, what do we do with that information? Where is this going? (I know people don't necessarily have time to answer hypothetical questions, but I think it's a logical one.)
I actually have two MobileMe sites. I manage the other one with another computer so everything is separate - neat and clean. What I'd really like to do, now that I've pull the blog out of my more active website, is move the blog over to the other MobileMe account. That website stays pretty static and since the blog is no longer being updated I really only need it online for reference only. My idea from the beginning has been to get it away from the active site so whenever something gets stupid, as has happened recently (with iLife '09) I don't have to re-upload all those pages.
I hope all that makes sense.
Is there any way to take something like this out of one website on one MobileMe account and move it over to another website on a separate account without having to build it all from scratch?
Thanks - I will try your test above and get back about that.

  • The "Error compiling movie. Unknown Error." message...

I had a Core2 processor until recently, running Win7 64 bit, on which Premiere CC ran just fine (but slowly) and on which I produced hours of video.
To speed my life up, installed a new Asus87 motheboard with an Intel i7 chip. Did a clean install of Win7/64.
it's the SAME hard disk, memory and graphics card.  only a new motherboard and processor.
and yet.. projects that i opened and worked on before, will NOT render - they crash continually with the dreaded "Unknown" error msg and i am close to tears of frustation.    An @adobecare tech from India spent two hours on the phone with me the other day and could not solve it.
So if the ONLY thing that has changed is the motherboard and processor, what is it?   Note that it always crashes at 88% into a 'red line render' no matter, how big or small the render area is - definetely nothing to do with corrupt video.
I've followed the standard Adobe reply on what to do if you see this error, and that does not solve anything.   It is not disk space, graphics driver, bad memory or corrupt video.
if i take a project which won't render, and copy it over onto my laptop and run up Premire CC on that - it works just fine.
Make of that what you will .. !
(also worth noting, AfterEffects works just fine opening up prevous projects and has no problems whatsoever dealing with complicated projects. this is very specific to Premiere)

So, after another longer-than-an-hour phonecall with an Adobe Tech last night, we found two things:
    1. My new Win7 build had a different audio device, and Premiere didn't like it.  Reinstalling the latest audio drivers got a sequence to render which previously wouldn't.   Tip for video : Check your audio!
    2. It still didn't work in some cases, until.. we went to 'Sequence' and change the Edit Mode to be 'Custom' and then at the bottom, change the Preview File Format to Microsoft AVI (the default sequence has choseen IFrame only MPEG).    It doesn't seem to matter what coded you then selected  - they call worked.  WIth this, all my sequences then rendered!
The tech told me that this was the case for .M2T files (which i usally record and work with), but I later found that a project with footage shot on a Nikon D5100 with all .MOV files also wouldn't render, until I changed the sequence settings to Microsoft AVI... yes, for .MOV files!  So it's not .M2T specific.
Also, none of this explains why all these projects and sequences worked fine on my old Intel Core 2 machnes, but upgrading to an new motherboard with Intel i7 chip made this all break.
But there you go people.. on a Windows machine, try setting the the Preview File Format to 'Microsoft AVI' and see what it does for you...
