Build 9879. Can't ignore expired certs in IE 11

The site for the VPN at my employer has an expired cert. Previously I was able to "Continue to this website (not recommended)" and continue on to the site to get VPN access.
However, in the latest build of Windows 10 and IE 11, this option is gone. If you hit a site w/ an expired cert your only option is to close the page. This is unacceptable.
Please let me know if there is a workaround, or provide a way to continue to the site in the very near future.

Hi,
I have confirmed this matter, the latest Windows 10 Technical Preview 9879 really has this phenomenon. But untill now, I doesn't find any solution or workaround method to access a website that restricted by cerficate problem.
In my opinion, it's should a security improvement of IE 11, it would be better to renew the cert to access the website.

Renewing the cert isn't an option for end users. Warn them, don't inhibit their experience. The warning that was in place before was perfect sufficient, as is the same thing
all other browsers do.

  • Why do i have more than one "Sites" cert after updateing and expired cert. Can i delete the expired cert?????

Hi After getting the below message i updated my cert but now have 3 of the same certs? Can i delete the expired cert?????
There is no valid SMTP Transport Layer Security (TLS) certificate for the FQDN of SERVER.domainname.local. The existing certificate for that FQDN has expired. The continued use of that FQDN will cause mail flow problems. A new certificate that contains the
FQDN of SERVER.domainname.local should be installed on this server as soon as possible. You can create a new certificate by using the New-ExchangeCertificate task.
    I used "Get-ExchangeCertificate | Select CertificateDomains,Thumbprint,Status,Services | fl"
to see which cert was expired
    I used "Get-ExchangeCertificate –Thumbprint 91D4C277BE4DF5FA15FC76D936375B7766ABCC23 | New-ExchangeCertificate" to replace the expired cert
    I re-ran "Get-ExchangeCertificate | Select CertificateDomains,Thumbprint,Status,Services | fl"
to see if it had worked
but now i have two certs one expired the other not. Can i delete the expired cert?????

    Hi
Yes you can delete the expired certificate which are showing  as it is not functional anymore and they remain as stale entries
    You can use  below command
Remove-ExchangeCertificate -Thumbprint "specify the value "

  • Build 9879 - Need to restart Win 10 if remotely logged on from other windows machine

    Hi,
Installed Win 10 32 bit Build 9879. I remotely logon to the Win 10 machine without any problem from my laptop. The problem comes when I try log in from Win 10 machine itself (i.e. which has Win 10 installed). No password screen... only black screen
    with a mouse.
Work around is to do remote log on to Win 10 and restart the system.
Is anyone faced similar problem ? How to resolve it ?
    Thanks,
    Mukul

    Hi Mukul,
It sounds like you have a log on issue, right?
Based on my understanding, when the Windows 10 9879 starts, you can remotely login from other PCs, but you have a native login issue.
If I misunderstand your meaning, please feel free to let me know about it.
If there is no password screen, I would suspect this is a corrupted installation. You can remotely launch the system recovery to perform a Refresh:

  • Build 9879 is having performance issues on my PC

    Hi guys,
Sorry for the outburst in the title, but since "upgrading" to 9879, I find my PC to be unusable: it's sluggish to the point that right-clicking on a shortcut on the Desktop has no visible effect (no menu showing, only the blue donut spinning and
spinning), the touchpad drivers are no longer recognized, and I must allow them to load into memory on every startup, and some files and folders are downright inaccessible, because I get an error message stating that the file or folder couldn't be opened,
    just like that.
CPU pegs at 100% and stays there, with a svchost gobbling all the cycles, though with very little RAM consumption, which seems to indicate a kernel issue, not a memory leak.
I haven't found the complete changelog for this build, but I think they put the cart before the horse, one more time. I know this is a preview version of Windows, but some users like to put such versions to the (real) test of everyday use, and so far, it
doesn't pass, not by a long shot.
How many happy campers among the 9879 users, as of now?
Oh, and one more for the road: after hanging/freezing for almost 10 minutes, I was told that the "Windows" process wasn't responding (really?), and would I like to terminate it... I clicked on "End process", and got a blue screen that
doesn't quite seem of death, but isn't completely alive either, because nothing's happening...

    A few thoughts:
Can you try a fresh installation of Build 9879? Where you report several different errors (drivers, system files, hanging, folders inaccessible), I would try a fresh installation to see if something got corrupted during the upgrade process.
You could also try DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth to validate and potentially repair core system files. You may need to use a Build 9879 disk image as the source. I would also recommend uninstalling and reinstalling any drivers that were installed
in the prior build. For example, the touchpad drivers may be in a halfway state where some components are properly installed and some were corrupted or affected during the upgrade process. Remove the drivers altogether and then re-install using the latest
    Windows 8.1 drivers.
Are you running any third party software, such as possibly an anti-virus, that could have affected the upgrade?

  • Metro Apps Not Working - BUILD 9879

    Dear All,
After installation for Build 9879 Metro Apps refuse to open, even the icons do not display.
Also accessing Wi-Fi network has become a problem as the PC Settings App does not open either.

    Hi Prashant Nagpal,
Like Jerry said, we can use Windows Store App troubleshooter to check if there is any wrong with Windows Store, it would do some check including system time check, security setting resetting and re-register Windows store, reset Windows Store cache and so
    on.
Meanwhile, we can use this command to fix component crash issue:
    Dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

  • Unable to update to Build 9879

    Hi,
Can someone please assist.  When I go to PC Settings, Update and Recovery and click on Preview builds and Check Now, I get the message that there are no new preview builds available.  I am running the Enterprise build of Windows 10 Technical Preview.
    Regards,
    Riaan

    Hi David,
Thanks for the proposal.  By default the setting is set to Fast.  I have tried both settings and still receive the same message.  Could it be something on my work proxy server?
EDIT:  Seems that the update to build 9879 for Windows Technical Preview for Enterprise was not released.  I change some registry settings to test this theory and I immediately got the New Preview build available message.
EDIT: Switched back the registry entries and now it's downloading the latest preview.
    Thank for the assistance.

    0xC1900101- 0x40017  - MOSETUP_E_SETUP_PLATFORM
The setupact.log is a record collection of all processes, we may check the migration fault, but we may not find the specific driver in it.
I would look into this log if you upload in forum:
    %windir%\Panther\Setupact.log
    C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\panther\Setupact.log
This error is caused by a faulty driver. The graphic card driver could cause such issue indeed. I suggest you update to the latest version, the best way is to confirm it is supported in Windows 8.1 officially.

  • Dealing with Expired Certs in Mixed-Mode

I have done a fair amount of research on this topic and while I have deployed mixed-mode clusters, I haven't had a situation quite like the one I need to contend with in the next couple of weeks. I am trying to be as prepared as possible and am looking for feedback on some procedures I am drafting.
    The situation:
    (4) node cluster (clustering over the WAN)
TFTP is enabled on all nodes (that is going to change as a result of our assessment findings)
    Cluster is running in mixed-mode
Most certificates on the Publisher node are expired
    tomcat cert
    ipsec cert
    host-name ipsec-trust cert
    call manager cert (callmanager.pem)
    CAPF cert
    CAPF trust cert
One of the subscriber nodes is in the same boat as the Publisher node (they were deployed at the same time and were the first nodes in this cluster)
The other two nodes (in a DR datacenter) have valid certificates  (until 2016) except for the publisher node server cert (which has expired)
The publisher node and the subscriber node that has the expired certs were also installed without DNS being enabled (no domain and no DNS resolvers specified - therefore, I expect that DNS client was not enabled during install)
It is worth noting the following:
Customer enabled mixed-mode because one of the security folks got hot and heavy on encryption. However, they limited the scope to phones only. So, IP Phone to IP Phone == authenticated/encrypted. They have a Unity Connection system with secure ports and that is it. Gateways: no encryption. CCX, etc. == no encryption
During discovery we also found that LSC distribution is fubar. Only a percentage of the phones are using LSC. Likely due to a flaw in the provisioning process. That will be addressed later.
The version they are running is 6.1(3)  (base, no service releases)
The goal: Get the present solution into a VMware environment running CUCM 9.1(2). Planning on doing the Jump Upgrade procedure (interim hop to 6.1.4).
We found out about the certificate issues during our discovery phase. We have built in time to remediate the certificate issue.
The plan (well, thus far). I am still pulling together my notes and trying to come up with a way to test an implementation plan off line so that I can avoid bricking the phones (they are spread all over north america).
Here is the 10,000 foot view of the plan (obviously, the actually plan will be more detailed):
Use BAT to disable phone security and uninstall LSC
    Security Profile mod
    Certificate Ops
    Reset phones
    DRS Back up
    Download/backup current certs
    Configure DNS
    set DNS domain name
set DNS resolver (primary and secondary)
    Pub node:
    regenerate tomcat cert
    restart tomcat service
    regenerate ipsec.pem
    regenerate callmanager.pem
    regenerate capf.pem
    Sub node (repeat above)
?should we update the Subs not affected by the cert issue?
Run the CTL client and update CTL
    Reboot servers
    Pub then Subs
Phones will reset as a result of this process
The customer has said that they are actually fine with the idea of going back to square one and start over with provisioning a secured (mixed-mode) cluster after the 9.1 upgrade. That would be great except that if I uninstall LSCs, change phones to non-secure, and use CTL client to change back to standard-mode, I still have the CTLs left on the phones. No way to bulk delete them in UCM. I am considering using something like UnfiedFX to help me get back to square 1. Right now, I consider this a plan B. Unless feedback to this thread and other research suggests a different tact.
Thanks in advance for any assist.
    -Bill

    Hi William,
You have a quite a few requirements here. Just to clear things up, there are two type of certificates, first is called "certificate trust", and the other is called "Certificate".  For the trust certificates such as Callmanager_trust you can just click on the certificate, make sure that it is expired, and then delete it. this has no impact on the phones. The other type of certificate is called "Certs", you will need to regenerate those certificates, This will regenerate the certificate and also recreates the new "CAPF-trust" or "CallManager-trust" certificates with new date/time ranges.
Doing the above will not impact the phones are the services, however after regenerating the certificates, you will need to restart all the services related to this certificate, for example if you regenerate the tftp certificate, you will need to restart the tftp service on all the servers in the cluster. Same for the Callmanager and the Tomcat.
Please note that whenever you regenerate the Call manager certificate, you will need to run the CTL client with the same Token you used when the server was changed to mixed mode.
In General the below is the procedure to regenerate the certificate
    - log into the "Cisco Unified OS Administration" page of the publisher
    - choose Security>Certificate Management
    - click the link for the expiring certificate
    - click "Regenerate"
    - restart the service that uses the certificate
That will regenerate the certificate on the publisher. Within the next
10-15 minutes, the updated certificate will  be propagated
    to the subscribers.

  • Download size and install size of Build 9879

I am a little short on harddisk space. How much space is needed to download and update to build 9879?

RE : How much space is needed to download and update to build 9879?
The download size will be between around 2 or 3 GB depending upon the computer architecture (32-bit or 64-bit) and system language.
RE : I am a little short on harddisk space
Have you deleted the Windows.old ? You can save up a huge amount of disk space.
    What is windows.old ?
Windows.OLD folder is often created during an upgrade of Microsoft's operating system from one version to another. It contains files from your previous installation of Windows, which were either not required or can't be used with the new version.
You don't need to keep these unless something has gone wrong with the upgrade and you need to roll back to your previous version.
    How to delete Windows.old ?
Most people will tell you use the built-in Disk Cleanup application.
I find it a whole lot more easier and actually faster using Ccleaner. Ccleaner is a free program. It is widely used and recommended.
How to use Ccleaner to remove Windows.old ?
Open Ccleaner > left side, make sure you are at windows tab > scroll down to Advanced > check the box " Old Windows Installation" > right side, click Analyze > when done it will tell you how many GB of space will be removed which
means how many GB you will get back for use > click Run cleaner. That is you are done.
Screenshot shows what I had saved from previous OS installation.

  • Skipping Build 9879

Based on what I've been reading, I don't want anything to do with Build 9879. Since Build 9860 upgraded my PC without warning, can anyone tell me how I can prevent Build 9879 from doing the same?

I believe that introduction of two update rings, i.e. Slow ('stable') and Fast ('unstable') wasn't by some accident.
If one prefers to have a preview of Win10 but doesn't want his HDD 'bricked' why would you deny him?
rhwright, I responded to you at answers.microsoft.com - just use Slow ring and you'll be fine (9879 belongs to Fast one)
UPDATE: but that solution may not last for long
Windows 10 should be here in stable form in mid-2015, so future updates are really critical for both users and Microsoft in order to fix bugs before the public launch.#WindowsInsiders We
decided to make a couple of additional fixes so are holding Slow ring progression until early next week. Thanks all!

  • Certificate renewed, clients offered expired cert

Renewed our cert with GoDaddy, went into Server Admin and added the new one per instructions. Removed old cert and checked that all services are now using the new one.  So far, so good.
Here's the fun part - the server is showing a two-year-old expired cert to OD users.  This manifests itself as a dialog when launching iCal: "iCal can't verify the identity of the server example.com"
I seem to recall stumbling across a post somewhere regarding OD / LDAP where there were a few terminal commands required to complete the cert update.
    Any clues?
    Thanks!

    UPDATE:
It appears to be some kind of Apache / Apache2 problem....  still digging.
Oddly, /etc/certificates now contains another group of 4 .pem files, which are directly referenced by servermgr_web_apache2_config.plist
These files were not here yesterday, and based on their date stamp, these are the expired cert files.  I cannot assign the new cert in Server Admin, and I cannot edit the .plist manually.  More precisely, I can edit the plist, but something keeps re-writing the old value back into the file.  Server Admin will let me select the new cert, but when I attempt to save the change, I get this error:
    More to come, I'm sure.
