Build booklet for outsource printing

I need to do page imposition for a 40 page InDesign CS3 document to ftp to a commercial printer. I have already installed the buildbooklet script for a small job (hope I can remember where to find that in the menus again) but that creates a pdf of each page. Isn't there a better way to do page imposition for large documents without creating 40 pdf files? I can't believe Adobe would just forget about large projects going to press like that.

Copied from the CS forum:
Large projects going to press should not be imposed by the designer,
they should be imposed by the printer. This is their responsibility and
in fact, many printers will charge you extra to unimpose it before doing
their own way.
Did they request this or are just making assumptions that this is what
they want?

• How to install the "Generic Printer" PPD for the Print Booklet setting?

Hi,
This is rather urgent. At my university the iMacs used to have the "Generic Printer" option while building a booklet under the "Print Booklet" > "Print settings" > Setup > PPD: Generic Printer, for a Post Script File so we could select any paper size to generate the .ps file. But they've changed the computers and now no one has itm and academic resources will take one month to install the option while I need to generate a booklet for next week. I've noticed some computers (one or two) have the PPD Generic Printer installed and they've explained to us that is a downloadable driver, but we don't really understand how it works. Can someone please tell me where and how I can install this driver so my InDesign will have the PPD: Generic Printer as an option?
Thank you!

thanks for the reply. I followed ur steps to check the printer queue. I could only copy the URI link (which is:
usb://Canon/LBP3100/LBP3108/LBP3150?serial=0000A29AIAWT), however, i couldn't paste to the same place (if im not getting wrong?).
Please see the screenshot as below. Is everything correct there? I still couldn't print anything.

• Exporting Booklet For Print

Okay, so here is my situation. I have created a book file in InDesign with several files that add up to a total book length of about 350 pages front and back. When i created the book I made each page 8.5x5.5, or exactly half of an 8.5x11.
What I am curious about is if there is a way to:
1. Print the entire book on 8.5x11 in one fell swoop in such a way that cutting it in half is not a pain and doesn't screw up the page numbering? I would love to print it as a booklet for binding in a 2-up perfect bind, but don't really want to go through the trouble of having to print each file separately....(I can't find print booklet in the "book" options)
2. Is there a way to export the entire book as a pdf as if it were printed on an 8.5x11, that is set up so that Kinkos could easily print and bind it using a spiral binding. This would be the easiest method. I would really prefer to have a professional do it, but the way I have it set up in InDesign makes it incredibly complicated for anyone to print, cut, and bind, without there being an extremely lengthy sorting process during one of the steps.
Does this make any sense at all?
Thanks so much,
-Josh

Apologies for the delay in getting back to you.
Printing books is a complex subject, and you don't, as you noticed, have the Print Booklet options available from the Book panel. I'm not clear on just how you really want to impose this, and how you are going to "cut it in half," but you can export the book to PDF as a single-page contiuous document that contains the entire book, then place that PDF into a new ID document (use the script you'll find here: InDesignSecrets » Blog Archive » Zanelli Releases MultiPageImporter for Importing both PDF and INDD Files) and then you can use Print Booklet to impose it for Kinkos any way you like.

• HT3669 I am looking for a Printer which has the "Booklet" option built in with drivers that work with os Mountain Lion 10.8.3

I need the booklet option on a printer (laser or inkjet) but am unable to find with a driver for my imac os10.8.3

So from your post I would assume that you have a file consisting of separate pages, such as a eight page Word document, and you want to be able to print this as a booklet. Do you want the booklet folded and saddle stitched as well?
I've seen this facitlity on copier-based office devices that have a mechanical saddle-finisher/booklet unit. But I have not seen a consumer product with the same.
If you are happy to fold the printed pages into a booklet, and you don't have more than four pages so stapling is not necessary, then there could be software available that will change the page order and print the individual pages in a 2-up mode in the correct order (ie pages 1 & 4 on the outside and pages 2 & 3 on the inside). A quick search found Create Booklet for Mac.

• Hello - Can anyone give me help/pointers on prepping art for screen printing?

I have expereince in Illustrator, but mostly for print. Is there special ways of preparing art work for screen printing? This would be art/logos for hats, tee shirts ansd promotional materials for a screen prininting company - mostly apparel?
Thanks, any info is appreciated - I've got to learn the right way to do this in two weeks time -
Rosie

Best advice I can give you with so broad a questions is: Forget about color; think in terms of inks. Also think in terms of opaque, not translucent, inks. Inks for the kinds of garments you mention are almost always opaque; so you have to forget about on-screen appearances which assume the translucent inks of offset printing.
The way you properly prepare files for screen printing is highly dependent upon the capabilities of the particular screen printing house. Screen printing runs the gamut from crude hand-done process in a local T-Shirt shop to highly automated high-resolution imprints on instrument face plates; and everything in between.
In the most common setups, you should think in terms of line art, not halftone or tint dots. That rules out soft & fuzzy shading, fuzzy drop shadows, and other raster effects.
Some garment screen shops are able to handle toning dots; other's aren't. Some shops can do 4-color process; some can't. Six-color screen printing machines are fairly commonplace these days, even in local shops. The better garment imprinters have equipment capable of CMYK process, but instead build gloriously brilliant images using six or more opaque inks on any color substrate.
So without more specifics about the shop capabilities and the specific artwork, it's not a simple matter to give you a ready-in-two-weeks crash course in preparing artwork for screen printing to cover everything you many encounter.

• 2 color gradients for offset printing

i am setting up a job for 2 color offset and have 2 PMS colors. I have some artwork that has a gradient from one of the PMS colors to the other. Is this going to be something the printer can deal with, or do I have to do something to set it up for separations for the printer. I am stuck thinking how easy it is in 4 color, but haven't had to deal with this using only 2 colors. Thanks in advance for any information.

James: You're the kind of client I prefer! The more educated you are, the better off we both are! You have more tools under your belt and I have more productivity dealing with clean files. I applaud you fostering this relationship, it's NOT the norm!
And like you, I do wish for better things with every version of ANY program I work with. Bravo!
Scott: I never said FH had inherent output issues. I've imaged MANY FH generated EPS files not native FH files (which was my point in an earlier statement that I may not have conveyed well).
I also agree that the user has much to do with the success of any prepress job (though Corel's crappy Postscript was their own doing.) The issue, historically, was that Corel's suite was a lot of "bang for the buck" to businesses to cheap to pay for professional design. So they bought Corel and foisted on their secretaries (or gave it to their kids) and had "in-house design". (This is the same cause of the Publisher plague). So you had many amateur files coming from Corel but also the occasional pro was using it and using it well. (I've designed files in Corel 4 that I never had a problem ripping!)
Doug: "Graphic Find and Replace" does NOT make FH better than AI. Blending spot colors is a deficiency? Even today I caution people to use Blends sparingly. Gradient Meshes provide Spot to Spot blending capabilities. Do I say it's perfect and the most intuitive tool? No. But in the hands of those who give it enough time it is a masterful tool unequalled in FH. But it doesn't make AI better - it's just a tool other programs don't have. What about the Automation interface? When FH was Macromedia's, it's scripting dictionary was paltry. AI supports Applescript, Visual Basic, and Javascript. I build front to backend workflows for AI using various combinations of these. This doesn't make it a better program than FH - though it may be superior in this regard.
As far as conventions go, FH's Pen Tool is what YOU are comfortable with. You see it FROM YOUR PERSPECTIVE. I have an associate that is by far the fastest and most accurate user of ANY Pen Tool I have EVER seen and he uses AI as his weapon of choice.
If you drop the qualifiers "flexible, elegant" (which merely describe YOUR feelings about it) you end up with one versus four. Appears to be a slam-dunk to you, I'm sure. But in practice, by a given individual, it may appear to make more sense and be faster than your experience. (Just like the cry for multiPage support in AI. I think this is a horribly bad idea but from many users' perspectives this is a must-have.)
I just don't understand why these forums become a continual p*ssing match between FH and AI users?!?!

• Booklet to PDF print preset settings not saved

I'm using ID CS4 on Vista64 Business and trying to output numerous booklet layouts to PDF for a client to print in-house at their premises. My lo-res tests work perfectly on their printer, I now need to output everything @ 300dpi etc.
I've set up a print preset to use the Adobe PDF printer driver and set all defaults I can find (Control panel etc) to High Quality output.
Interrogating the preset directly reports settings as "High Quality" but when using the Booklet Print dialogue Setup button to check the printer prefs, it always shows (and outputs) "Standard" settings.
Is there a way to get the ID Booklet option to remember the default PDF printer prefs? It's a real pain to change these manually for each print run.
Thanks, any advice gratefully received. [ I'm probably missing something embarrassingly fundamental. ~:o( ]

Hi Peter,
I can only find a printer folder under Control Panel > Printers. This is where I've already changed the PDF Printer defaults without success. Oddly, I appear to have fixed it by renaming the print driver instance there to "Adobe PDFx" (probably any other name would also work).
Whilst troubleshooting, I found I could also see another network "Adobe PDF printer" on another machine. I had a look over the settings there and saw the option "render print job on client machine". This got me thinking I might NOT have been using the LOCAL PDF printer setup and was just fooling myself.
I changed the local PDF Printer name to be certain I could identify it correctly and Hey Presto!, it suddenly started accepting the preset changes. I changed it back to "Adobe PDF" and it reverted back to the "standard" settings and just ignores everything.
It may be a weird Vista 64 security thing, this OS does some very annoying things when trying to access stuff, even though I have master admin privileges.
I'll simply leave the printer name as "PDFx" for now as this is getting the job done.
Thanks for your suggestions.

• Xerox workcentre 7225 print driver fails while searching for networked printer

HelloJoe,Thanks - So I took those steps and the printer is created as a local printer using a TCP/IP port with the proper IP address for that printer. It appears I can get to its property pages. But when I try to print, the job goes to the queue and it just hangs eventually timing out and it shows error for printing that document... I can ping the IP adddress from the PC and it returns pings. ?

This unit is working fine from several other PCs, WIN 7 and WIN XP, in the building. Installing on a WIN7 64 bit PC. During the installation it starts to look for the networked printer and stops, posting the message - [ Xerox windows common installer has stopped ] , then installer just hangs. I have uninstalled and tried the following versions with the same error - Date: 2 Jun, 2014Version: 5.351.8.0.0Size: 17.7 MBFormat: EXEand tried Global Print driver Date: 15 Dec, 2014Version: 5.404.8.0Format: WWW NOTE - I even tried a manual driver installation which appears to work but the printer fails to print - returning a print error and cancels the job. Help,Jim

• Splitting the Spool Request for Form Printing

Hello,
I have a requirement where I need to print data for 1500 employees (1 Page per employee) which makes 1500 pages per spool request. Now, there is a change in the printer due to which the printer only accepts only 300 pages in the buffer. So, after printing 300 pages, it stops. Is there any way I can split the spool request and generate 5 spool requests (1 request for every 300 pages) so that all the pages are printed at once? Please let me know.
Regards,
Venkata Phani Prasad Konduri

i have created a program using which you can create multiple pdf from a single spool number
first in the code below i have taken a spool number which has 2 pages in it.
second you must use the FM : RSPO_RETURN_SPOOLJOB in the program to get the content of the spool . while to perform analysis on how to build logic to split the spool otf/pdf user the FM RSPO_DISPLAY_SPOOLJOB, here by passing the spool number you will get the content in display mode and then based on the keyword you will build logic for e.g in my case i have to perform segregation based on material number so it can be used to decide how many pages are reserved by a specific material number.
another important point to kept in mind is that otf begins with "//" and a page ends with "EP" and last page ends with "//" along with "EP". It can be used to remove the number of lines to keep specific pages .
program layout as with proper documentation has been provided.

• Exporting Music Digital Booklet for iTunes Upload

I'm a bit new to InDesign, and having difficulties exporting a finished booklet for an album my company is releasing on iTunes.
iTunes has certain minimum requirements, most of which are easy to accommodate. One of them, however, is proving to be tricky for me. They say the pages must all be in landscape orientation, and must be sized at 11 inches x 8.264 inches.
Imagine the size of a CD booklet in your hand (about 4.25" x 4.25"), and then imagine the size when you have the booklet open (about 8.5" x 4.25"). This is the same size the booklet is in InDesign currently. I need to figure out how to export the booklet in its current size to those exact PDF dimensions of 11" x 8.264", and if possible, to be able to choose the color of the extra canvas space that is created as a result. I'd likely choose white, or a neutral gray.
Can this be done in InDesign? I haven't been able to find anything online to help, and after waiting over two hours for Adobe customer service to call me back, it was quickly apparent that the guy calling from India who couldn't speak clear English could not understand what I was asking, and I doubt he knew the answer anyway. I don't know, because I had to finally hang up.
DG

I'm making a digital booklet for iTunes because we are a label and we are releasing an album, and a digital booklet is to accompany said album.
You asked me if I would be using Folio Builder, and the answer is no, I'm using InDesign. If Folio Builder is a function of InDesign, then I didn't know that. Like I said, the app is new to me, which is why I'm here asking this question.
FYI, the 11" x 8.264" dimensions required by iTunes match the 1024 px x 768 px you mentioned.
Do you have any more questions for me or do you the answer to the question?

Dear Pugal
we are not using GLM + and I am not sure about the technqiue used there to handle load balancing. Regarding general WWI setup I assume you know this Note: EH&S: Availability and performance of WWI and Expert servers
On the top there is a further SAP Note abvailable which might be of interest. This is referenced here:
http://de.scribd.com/doc/191576739/011000358700000861002013-e
May be check OSS note: 1958655; OSS Note 1155294 is more related to normal WWI stuff; but may be check it as well. May be 1934253 might help better
May be this might help.
C.B.
PS: may be check as well: consolut - EHS_MD_140_01 - EH&S-Management-Server einrichten
The load balancing of synchron WWi servers is donein the "RFC" layer, therefore you have no inffluence here, for asynchron WWI servers you can do a lot to manage the WWI load balancing by using "exits" etc.

• How can i make a email for my printer

how can i make a email for my printer to send the things to the email and get it printed if i was out of the house my printer model is 3525

Hi alhashmi_sy,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums. I see that you would like to learn how to setup the ePrint feature of your Deskjet Ink Advantage 3525 printer.
The first step is to connect your printer to your wireless network. Please follow the steps in the Installing the Printer Software for a Wireless Network Connection document for your operating system. If you have already setup your printer with a USB cable, each operating system section has the steps to switch from the USB connection to a wireless connection.
After connecting the printer to your wireless network please follow the steps for Getting the Printer Claim Code. Once you have the web services information sheet with your claim code please Set Up a Custom Email Address for ePrint.
You should now have a customized ePrint email address for your printer. If you run into any issues please let me know at what step things went awry and the contents of any error messages. Please also let me know what operating system you are using on your computer (whatsmyos.com). Thank you.
