Build compiz-core from ABS and disabling some plugins

Hello,
I would like to build Compiz 0.8.6 from ABS but without some plugins that I don't use. For some plugins, the configure switch
--disable-{plugin}
works, but for others it doesn't. I assume that I got the wrong name of the plugin, so I'm wondering if I can somewhere find a list off all plugins? For example, I want to disable the water and clone plugins, but
--disable-water / --disable-clone
doesn't work.

Your Desktop Picture settings and Dock items are stored in the files
/Users/your short user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist and
/Users/your short user name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
in the "Preferences" folder in your user library. This looks like the system has trouble to write to these files. Check the permissions on your user library and remove the above files from your user library, then log off and on again.
Your user library is hidden in Lion and Mt. Lion. To reveal it, use the Finder's "Go" menu. Select "Go" in the Finder's main menu bar and hold down the alt/option key, until you see the "Library" in the drop-down menu. Double click it to open a Finder window, so you can browse the files inside.

Trouble compiling games from ABS and AUR (solved)

Hi I hope someone can help me. Ive downloaded the tar.gz for drascula from ABS unzipped it and when I try to run makepkg -s I get the error that scummvm 0.12 not found in sync db. I installed the scummvm from ABS manually same error. I then saw it was version 0.11.1 so I uninstalled it and downloaded the correct version from sourceforge. I installed it with ./configure --prefix=/usr/local then make then install. It installed sucessfully as it runs fine but I still recieve the same error when running makepkg -s. What am I doing wrong?

Welcome to the forums.
Since you installed it manually, pacman doesn't know it's there. The best way to this would have been to edit the scummvm PKGBUILD then install it with pacman. Usually you just need to change the pkgver line to the new version and comment out the md5sums line.
It's always best to use packages in Arch. You'll forever be running into problems like this if you don't.

How can I review my plugs ins, and disable some if needed?

I notice that in the Windows Task Manager 'Processes' tab that my plugin-container from time to time uses quite a bit of CPU resources as well as memory. Is there a way to review my plug ins and then disable/remove/uninstall some if I wish?

Building (lib)gphoto2 from abs

Question 1 is about how to edit/choose "source=()" line ?
I want to update (lib)gphoto2 PKGBUILDs from ~2.1.6 to newer ~2.2.x as they support 300 new cameras like Canon Powershot 430, and I can't get the download running & working :
source=(http://dl.sourceforge.net/gphoto/$pkgname-$pkgver.tar.gz) or ~.bz2 won't get it.
Maybe it's me beeing unexperimented or maybe is it dl.sourceforge.net issue 2day ? If first, may someone explain how to choose the "source=()" line in one's PKGBUILD ?
Even if that issue comes back regularily on AUR, I found nothing about it in Arch ABS Wiki.
Since http://dl.sourceforge.net did not work, I downloaded the tarballs from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfile … _id=425235, made the 2 packages, then add them to my local mirror (& runned gensync . myrepo.tar.gz).
Now Question 2 : how to edit pkgver & pkgrel (pliz see below be4 shouting at me )
Despite I changed pkgver (to 2.2.0 & 2.2.1) & pkgrel to 1, but pacman -Sy libgphoto2 still shows (lib)gphoto2-2.1.6 ?
pacman -Ss gphoto2 shows
kozaki_repo/gphoto2 2.2.0-1 & libgphoto2 2.2.1-1.
Note : I checked AUR wether (lib)gphoto2-2.2.x were ported to Arch & no. AFAIK there were some issues back in April/May this year when digikam still depended on libgphoto-2.1.6 & an udev rules/events issues in Arch

1) To fix the dl.sourceforge.net mirror redirecting problem, add to your /etc/hosts file:
<IP> dl.sourceforge.net
where <IP> is the IP of your favorite sourceforge mirror.
2) To install your package use:
pacman -Sy kozaki_repo/gphoto2
or list your repo before the current/extra ones in pacman.conf

EXPORTING TO QUICKTIME FROM FCP5 AND ONLY SOME OF THE FILM IS TRANSFERED?

Im in the midst of exporting my sequence from FCP5 to quicktime via the "Quick Time Movie" option. When I do this about 30 seconds of footage is missing from the final QT that us created.
If any one can help I would really appreciate it.

In the time line make sure that you go to the end and then press o (out Point)
also if you have a clip selected that is all that will be exported. From your info thats all I got for you. LOL

Build Distr Kit from MeasStudio and VC++ 6.0

I have built an application using VC++ 6.0 and Measurement Studio 8.5. I now want to distribute this as a stand-alone app (Meas Studio and VC++ not needed on the target machine). How do I do this to include all necessary NI dll's and other stuff, including cvirte.dll, etc? I think I want the equilvalent of a distribution kit for LabWindows, but I can't find any documentation on this.

Building pidgin with meanwhile support from ABS failing

I've been building pidgin manually from ABS in order to incorporate meanwhile support for use on IBM Lotus Sametime. This entails editing pidgin's PKGBUILD and removing this line:
--disable-meanwhile \
Then I simply run `makepkg -si`. Recently (last week and after trying again today after a fresh pacman -Syu), I get this fail in the build:

If I build with --disable-meanwhile present, it succeeds. Something is occurring when I try to being in meanwhile support, which I believe entails libpurple integration.
Any suggestions on debugging further?

You need to fix the source files with something like
sed -i 's|glib/*.h|glib.h|' src/*
There have been several similar errrors with builds of other packages. I don't know the details, but I gather glib has been revised such that there is now a single unified glib.h that should be included in source files.
EDIT: you'll have to edit the target files in the sed command as there is a deeper tree structure than src/*, but I'll let you sort that out. Once done, this sed command can be added to the PKGBUILD.

pkgver is 0.18.1.1

I have seen various reports of this same problem with other packages, such as grub, but couldn't apply the solution that was given there. Any ideas?

Because the solution for grub is specific to gnu-lib code contained in the grub source package.

I have looked at the stdio.h and stdio.in.h files that are shipped with gettext, and do not see directives similar to what are specified in the patch for grub.

Problem building VLC from ABS

Okay I copied /var/abs/extra/multimedia/vlc to ~/installs/, then I ran makepkg and this is the end of the long output as it was compiling:

no, you need to first recompile 'ffmpeg' from abs with --disable-swscaler flag. Check the PKGBUILD, u will see it is enabled, replace with disable. compile and install it using pacman -U.
then u take the PKGBUILD and patch from the archive I posted above and use makepkg to re-compile a patched vlc version so u can watch avi videos again. install that with pacman -U
your ffmpeg PKGBUILD will look like this

Don't use pacman -Sy, use checkupdates
Don't run abs as root, use $ABSROOT, also you cam tell abs just what packages to download. As a sidenote, abs is often out of date, the gir repo is prefered.
And there already are several existing tools to build/update from abs, why not use one of those?

[SOLVED] Compiling kernel PKGBUILD from ABS (2.6.34)

So I'm currently compiling a kernel from ABS, and its been running som docbook stuff for 2-3 hours now which I've never seen before when compiling a kernel with ABS.
I commented out the line that allowed me to edit the config with make menuconfig. I tweaked the kernel to 1000hz and set up my cpu family.
Is this normal? Im pretty sure this didnt happen when I compiled 2.6.33.4 from ABS

Firefox keeps crashing randomly. I've tried refreshing, reinstalling, and clearing redundant plugins. Help please...

My Firefox keeps crashing, seemingly randomly. It could be when I open a new page, or when just reading through a page of text.
I've tried starting in safe mode, doing multiple refreshes, reinstalling Firefox, and disabling redundant plugins like multiple shockwave.
Any help would be appreciated. I love Firefox, but this has been making it extremely frustrating to use.

hi Josh, that looks like a crash triggered by your nvidia graphics driver in relation to hardware acceleration in firefox - please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating the graphics driver]] for your model on the nvidia website, or in case this doesn't solve the issue or there is no new version available at the moment, disable hardware acceleration in the firefox ''menu ≡ > options > advanced > general'' (that setting will take a restart of the browser to take effect).

[SOLVED] Error building conky 1.8.0 from ABS

Since conky 1.8.1 has a bug with fonts, I'm trying to build conky 1.8.0. I got the PKGBUILD from the ABS and modified it to install 1.8.0. I also had to include a fix for curl, found here:
