Build in dvdsp burn in pc

Hi, Im authoring a dvd in dvdsp4.
The thing is, Im trying to burn it to the 8cm dvd (the small one) and my drive (dvr-117d) won't read the dvd. So Im thinking of building from dvdsp and get my AudioTS and VideoTs files. then copy them to pc and burn there.
Now, what is the correct way of doing this? do I just build to a folder, then copy that folder to pc, then put the videots and audio ts in a dvd burning program?
Cause I remember when I did this once long time ago, that I had to delete 1-2 files from the videoTS but I couldnt remember which ones.
Thx guys
jack

Yes, you'll probably need to remove the .LAY and .LAYOUT files from the V_TS folder. These are files that DVDSP uses to hold information relating to the build, and are not needed on the final disc. DVDSP usually removes these as part of the format process.
Once on the PC, remember to make a UDF disc in the software you are using, not a standard data disc.

  • Building in DVDSP, Burning with Toast

If I build in DVDSP and burn with Toast will Toast also recognize the Opening Menus and Chapter Index Menu? or do I have to do something special? Thanks for the reply. Also just out of curiosity what does Toast do during the burn process that DVDSP doesn't?

If you build the project in DVDSP then all you need to do in Toast is get it to burn the folders onto a UDF disc (Universal Disk Format). There are several ways to do this in Toast, depending on the version that you have got. Whichever way you choose shouldn't mean you need to change any menus or anything else - Toast can simply create a DVD from your VIDEO_TS folder, or it can use a disk image and burn that. You can also set it to create a UDV DVD-ROM and drop the Video and audio_TS folders into the wondow... none of these methods will alter the content of the folders.
Toast gives you the opportunity to burn at slower speeds than DVDSP. This is good, since a slower burn results in a more compatible DVD-R. However, there are those who regularly burn at the speed of light and don't get any issues, so let's hope more of us can get to that standard soon! The burn speed in DVDSP is calculated for you on the basis of the media capability and the writer speed... it will choose the maximum possible from the combination available.

  • "Video bitrate too high", but DVDSP burned the same project before

I go the "Video Bitrate Too High" error. Normally I'd go back and "fix" it, but I just re-opened an old project. Same assets, same everything. Last time DVDSP burned it, this time it won't.
    DVDSP 4.2.1

not sure if you're saying they were pre-encoded or not, If a previous project is coming up with warnings it did not have before and refuses to burn, you might try throwing away the PAR files associated with the assets - these may be giving DVDSP inaccurate info about the bitrate and GOP structure.

  • DVDSP burn works on computer NOT desk top player

    I'm using DVDSP 2.0
When I burn a disk it works on my computer but not on a relatively new desk top player. Is this a media problem? I've had some probs before with media but have been using Maxell DVD-R that has worked in previous projects. Any media suggestions?
Or any other suggestions for that matter.
Would an external burner and Toast give me a more consistent burn?

  • DVDSP burn issue

Upgraded to Lion and immediately found DVD Studio Pro useless as it will not burn a disc. Recently reverted back to Snow Leopard for a number of reasons but still have the same problem. When I try to burn I get an almost instantaneous message that says, "Formatting Failed" "See Log". Log says, "Build cancelled Compiler File Error". Since custom menus are not currently an issue I've been burning out of FCP share with no problems. Thoughts?

Sorry, no, but we've seen at least one other similar post about Lion breaking most of the FCS3 apps. After you reverted back to Snow Leopard, did you reinstall the FCS3 bundles? Might be ncessary to replace all the stuff that Lion apparently killed.

  • Building a BluRay - Burning a BluRay Folder?

In Adobe Encore, you can build a BluRay Image, and a BluRay Folder. If I create a BluRay Folder, how do I burn it to a BluRay disk later? My computer is having trouble creating BluRay Images for some reason. They won't play after mounting them, or burning them. DVD Images work fine though. So I think there's something wrong with Encore at the moment. But I'm always having trouble with it. SOO. Perhaps BluRay Folder will work. How would I go about doing this?
    Thanks.

Most of us (on PC) like imgBurn for burning. I will prompt you if you are trying to burn the wrong format.

  • At what speed does DVDSP burn?

I read that burns can fail if the burner is trying to burn at a faster rate than allowed by the media. I can find no controls in DVDSP for controlling burn speed--what speed does it use and can you control that?
    Thanks
    Bob

In short there are no controls and DVDSP will burn at the maximum available given the speed of the media and the speed of the burner that you have got.
The only way to control burn speed is to use Toast.

  • Build crashe DVDSP

  • Creating DVD out of a "build" using DVDSP?

Hey. I built the DVD_TS folders from a project of mine, but I am a little confused. Is there any way to create a playable DVD straight from this folder? I have seen the solution using Toast, however I do not have Toast. Is there any way to just use DVDSP to create a DVD from this folder?
    Thanks.

This is done with the "Format" command.

  • Space left on DVD after compression

    Workflow:
    1.Edit project in FCP7
    2. Export to Quicktime (not self contained)
    3. Use Bit Budget to create compression settings, maxed out at average 6.8, maximum 7.8
    4. Drag to compressor, change settings to match above, 7.8 changes to 8
    5. After compression build in DVDSP, burn in Toast
    6. Toast says there is 1.2 Gb left on DVD.
Question: Why wouldn't there be less compression? The video looks ok, but with 1.2 gb left on the DVD seems there could be less compression for a better looking DVD.
Thanks in advance for all tips and help.

As hanumang said there are limits as to rates. If your movie is one minute long, there will be a ton of room left
    http://dvdstepbystep.com/faqs_3.php
The maximum rate that a DVD should output is 10.08 Mbps (Page 43 DVD SP 4.1.2 Pdf Manual) Of the 10.08, the maximum rate for the video stream is 9.8 Mbps. Video, audio and subtitle streams count to the max Mbps of 10.08 (Page 44 Pdf ) Note that some players do not handle the theoretical rates (meaning the rates they are suppossed to be able to handle) well, more so on discs burned from your computer. This rate is not related to how long or short a track is, it relates to how much data is being put out by the DVD.

  • Can you change default burn output in DVDSP?

    Hi All
I got a dual layer external burner (lacie D2) for my G5 dual2 which has a single layer superdrive inside. I encoded the movie file with Compressor, imported the assets to DVDSP and clicked burn as i usually do. DVDSP spits out the superdrive tray and asks for some suitable media to be placed in there, as it normally does.
Q> How can I make DVDSP address the Lacie, when I click burn, instead of the G5 superdrive.?
    Cheers
    Jamie

    A> You can't
Although the drive on the computer opens as usual you should be able to open the external drive, insert a blank DVD, close it and *in theory DVDSP should burn it. OR if you already have a blank DVD in the External drive before you try to burn in DVDSP then when you click burn your internal drive should not even open. If you have a blank DVD in the internal drive and a blank DVD in the External drive then DVDSP will burn a DVD onto the internal drive. I'm not %100 sure but try it out!
Another alternative is to build the DVD in DVDSP and use Toast to format to the external drive. This is the preferred method since you can set the burn speed (DVDSP burns at the highest speed which increases the risk of burning coasters).
Something else you might of wanted to consider is acquiring a Dual-Layer internal drive...

  • Invalid video assset cancels build or burn

Hello, I'm making a dvd using an exported self contained QT with chapter markers set to be dvd studio pro markers. It exports fine plays fine but when i build or burn after hours and hours of encoding, i get a message saying invalid video asset, and the whole thing is cancelled. I've made plenty of dvd's before using markers and this is not a very complex one, but i'm obviously being a muppet cos its not working.
Any suggestions would prevent me gnawing off my own hand in frustration at the wasted hours and the irate phone calls from the customer wanting their finished dvd.
    Thanks very much
    Fred

    What is your work flow?
You should have first, taken the QT file and encoded it using Compressor, (as a stand alone app.)
The resulting files from this would be named, filename.m2v and filename.aif or AC3.
Those files then should have been imported into DVD SP. Any other video or audio assets should also have taken the same work path as your QT file.
Any menu or slide assets should have been scaled, (in Photoshop) to 720x480 at 72dpi, (don't let DVD SP do the scaling) saved as a .psd or .tif format, then imported into DVD SP.
Then author your project, build and format, (burn) the DVD.

  • Motion menus/buttons blank out on burn

Trying to make motion menus or video background or buttons with video clip. After building/formatting and burning, the menus don't show up. The screen is white with sound only.
This doesn't seem to be a problem with still menus/backgrounds
    Am I missing something?

    John
In DVDSP Preferences, in the Menu options change the Final Rendering option from Hardware Based to Software BAsed, or vice versa. That means, change to the opposite you have now selected. Then rebuild your project and chek it.
It's a known pronlem that should be solved this way.
    Hope that helps !

  • Can MPEG folder be discarded after 'Build' has created Video_TS folder?

Hello, I am clearing things off my hard drive, and archiving. It appears that a video_TS file is self-sufficient file, and can be used at a later time to burn more DVDs. (I burn them in Toast.)
I am confused about the folder that is created when I import a Final Cut program into DVDSP-the MPEG-with PAR. I assume these are just compressed versions of the Final Cut program that become the video and audio assets to author the DVD. Once I do the 'Build' in DVDSP, can I dump the MPEG files? (I always make a high quality self-contained Quicktime movie in Final Cut of the program for archival reasons.)
    Thanks very much, Bob

Thanks Eric, One more question about these MPEG folders. I don't seem to have any control as to where they come up. The last one that got created, came up in my Final Cut Projects folder, right with the FC video that was imported. Then I also discovered an single MPEG folder that contained files for many different projects. Is there a way to designate an exact folder where the MPEG will go, before I click 'Import' in DVDSP?
    Thanks, Bob

  • Burn Warnings

    Hey Folks,
I'm getting three warnings when I burn a DVD from DVD STUDIO PRO 4 on a Power Mac G5. Some of the assests are sitting on an external 250 GB drive. I'm not sure whether the following is anything worry about:
"Warning: The file ‘FULLBODYWORKOUT.layout’ found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.'
Warning: The directory ‘/Volumes/External 250 GB/FullBodyYogaHOKU/DVD_SCRATCH/FULL_BODY_YOGA_SCRATCH/VIDEOTS/Render Data’ will not be included in the final disc.
Warning: The file ‘VOB_DATA.LAY’ found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc."
If anyone could shed some light on this that would be awesome. Thanks so much and Happy Belated New Year to you all!

Those files are created by DVDSP when you build a DVD, but they are not needed on the final burned DVD so they are purposely excluded when you format/burn. If you were to burn the Video_TS folder created by a build with another burning software such as Toast, you should manually exclude those files.
    Its perfectly normal.
