Build OBIEE 11g repository accessing Essbase problem

When I use OBIEE 10g to import Essbase cubes metadata, the measures are displayed as 'physical cube columns' in physical layer; however, when I use OBIEE 11g to import the same Essbase cubes metadata, these 'physical cube columns' disappear (i.e., I cannot see profit, margin, etc. anymore) but rather, the measures are shown with 'physical dimension' with a hierarchy structure (up to Gen4 measures).
The implication is that when I drag the structures to BMM layer and then presentation layers, I am not able to select any measures in the presentation layer.
Are there anyone who can help me solve this problem?

Hi user,
Obiee 10g had a big problem importing essbase measures. In order for you to create a measure you needed to make the measure dimension and "Account" type dimension which would mostly be the Scenario dimension rather than the Account dimension.
Obiee 11g allows you to import the account dimensino and decide whether to treat it as measures or as a dimension. Once the cube is imported,right click on it and select "Convert measure dimension to flat measures". This will resolve your problem.

Problem in Obiee 11g when using Essbase as a data source.

Hi,
I imported Essbase objects into RPD. I would like to build an report analyzing by "City" (e.g. HK) and "Channel" (e.g. Bar, Restaurant). However, this dimension combined as one dimension in Essbase. Is there any methods to separate one dimension into two in RPD? Or, is there any trick can I used to complete this task?
Btw, I have tried to duplicate the whole set of Essbase objects in RPD. Then, join the copy to the original object by using the dimension key in both object. For example, "Customer" in original object is joining to "Customer" in copied object. However, an error prompted out when I run the report by dragging the dimension and a "Fact" measure into it.
The error message as follow:

Is there any method to join an external table to Essbase object in RPD? For example, external table contain (Code, Description, Postal Code) and Essbase table contain only (Code, Description). How can I use the "Postal Code" to a report as well?

It appears that I can view in Excel through the RPD when I am accessing the RPD in offline mode. If I try to access through online mode it just says "Connection Failed".
I also tried viewing the data through Answers but received the following error:

OBIEE 11g Repository Question: session context

The Metadata Repository Builder's Guide says in chapter 13, "Note: Alternatively, you can use the database session context to pass end user identity to the database. Use a connection pool script to set up session context. Note that this approach does not rely on database authentication."
However, no example or instruction is given to show/explain how to do that. Does anyone know how to set up a connection pool script to pass the :USER value to the database session context object? We have to pass the user ID of the Analytics user to the database so as to apply VPD policies.

I'm trying also to get work VPD with OBIEE 11.1.1.5, but no luck. I have done almost all the same as are in Venkatakrishnan's example. It seems that select statement with set function in "execute befire query" goes to the database, but it have no effort because query in Answers returns no rows, means that :USER is not forwarded to the policy function. Is it possible that statement in "execute before query" and Answer request are not in same database session? Have anyone got work VPD with OBIEE 11.1.1.5? Everything works ok for example in SQLPlus and in SQL Developer.

Hi,
Some admin server process is still running ....so check the process using ps command and kill the process and try to start again . When you kill the process all lok file will get removed.

OBIEE 11g - Line-Bar Graph problem

Hi,
I am trying to build a Line-Bar graph where the line represents target. My data is as follows:
Dim1 Dim2 Fact Target
A Z 10 2
A Y 5 2
B X 6 3
B W 7 3
Please note that, the target is same across same Dim1. Like A has same target, B has same target.
Now if I create a stack chart with stack based on Dim2 (Dim2 is in the Vary by Colour), then I get mutiple line for target with the same value for each Dim1.
I am not sure if I could explain it clearly.
I want to show one line for the target since its same for Dim1. How can I do that?
Please help.

Group By (Dim1)
Vary Coulor by (Dim2)
Bars (Fact)
Lines (Target)

Not yet, and I've been too busy with some SEV 1 issues to goof around with it. I also need to open a ticket about default pivot table formatting - i.e. removing the background colors under the non-data areas, and they also seem to have some sort of gradient fill at the bottom. I'll let you know if I hear anything.

Expression Builder OBIEE 11g

Trying to calculate the percentage, but its giving me null values. Please tell me what's wrong.
Expression was built using expression builder in the RPD.
IFNull(("column" / "column"), 0)*100
When the column numbers are the same, it gives 100% like it should....
When the column numbers are different, it gives a 0 value.

Essbase as a source in OBIEE 11g and using lookup to Relation database

We are trying to implement Essbase as primary source for our obiee 11g repository and using relational database as secondary source of data.
I was using a lookup functionality in repository to lookup value from one of the Essbase's Dimension's attribute to relational database, however, there is error when testing this in OBIEE Dashboards.
And tried to look this error in support.oracle and googled it but was not able to find anything on it.

Is Essbase 11.1.1.3 supported as a source for OBIEE 11g?From the certification matrix (http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-enterprise-edition/bi-11gr1certmatrix-166168.xls) we can see that only Essbase 9.3.3+ and 11.1.2+ are supported, not 11.1.1.3

Find the built reports without accessing analytics page in OBIEE 11g

Hi everyone,
I am working with OBIEE 11g. This week I got a problem, I am unable to start the BI Services. I just can access Weblogic Server Console and Enterprise Manager but not the analytics page where I can build dashboards, answers, agents etc.
I have done a full backup of the server where the whole BI Application resides. But after the backup, I have added many reports. I have the copy of the repository file .rpd after adding these new reports. What I am proposing now is to make a backup of the server actual state, then restore the old backup of the server and use the copy of the repository file. But it requires a lot of work to add the reports made before. Is there any way or place where to find the built reports even though the BI services are unable to start? I can acces the WLS and Enterprise Manager. If it is possible to find the reports, we can just restore to the last backup of the server and resolve the problem. Please help me.

I have a problem using the Obiee 11g 11.1.1.6.0

I have installed the Oracle BI EE suite 11.1.1.6.0. in Win Xp (32bit). And I couldn't view the 'analytic' from the browser an error " Error 404: not found" and sometimes "500 : Internal server error". And I tried to restart the BI services, checked through the console and em as well. I want to whether (11.1.1.6.0) is compatible to run in the xp are is there any prerequisites to be taken care of (or) do I have to rectify any of the installation errors if any. Thank you, Kindly leave your suggestions/comments.

As specified in my last reply too, here are the answers for your issues

Yes, if you try to access analytics on port 9704, it will error out. This is because from 11.1.1.5 onwards, simple install of OBIEE has only one weblogic server on 7001. So you must try the url http://IP:7001/analytics. If you have been trying this already, just check if there are any connectivity issues to the server or firewall etc
2)And when I start the BI services, there only one cmd prompt pop up other than Start BI window.
Yes, since there is only one weblogic server there will be only one command prompt.
You could try accessing all the analytics on 7001 port and see. I think your .6 is perfectly working fine and you do not need to get back to .5

I checked another blog for this https://forums.oracle.com/thread/2565716 and even there the explanation doesn't convince me.
I tried to look at the Locale of my system where I am installing and I could see it is using Eng-Us by default. One way suggested to check the Unicode format from the web browser and I could check that too to be UTF-8 as suggested by someone on some other blog.
I checked in the logs too as suggested by the Installation dialogue box but it didn't seem much conclusive too.

Hi all,
We are able to resolve the above issue with the below solution.
Root cause of the issue:
You may have a temp directory in the path C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temp. You got the above mentioned exception because of the temp directory path having spaces_+ in it.
Solution:
1. Create a new directory called TEMP in a different location for ex: C:\TEMP
2. Now, Right click on My computer --> Properties --> Advanced --> click on Environment Variables.
3. You should be having TEMP and TMP as variables under user variables section pointing to the C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Local Settings\Temp path.
4. Edit the TEMP and TMP variables and mention C:\TEMP in the variable value.
5. Deinstall and re-install OBIEE 11g.

Flattening Essbase Measures in OBIEE 11g

Hi all,
I'm using OBIEE 11g. After importing a cube from Essbase to the physical layer in the RPD, I'm choosing "Convert measure dimension to flat measures" to flatten the measures. Now I have all the measures as a flat list. However, the "Measures" dimension/hierarchy still exists in the physical layer. I find this strange.
Then when I drag the cube to the business model layer, that "Measures" dimension/hierarchy isn't brought to the business model layer. I think this is correct, because the measures are already flattened, therefore there should not be any measure dimension/hierarchy in the business model layer.
My questions:
1. If the measure dimension/hierarchy is not used anymore in the business model layer, why does it still exist in the physical layer?
2. What is the impact if I remove it from the physical layer? (Note: I tried this, so far no error, but not sure if later on I will encounter error because of this)

1. If the measure dimension/hierarchy is not used anymore in the business model layer, why does it still exist in the physical layer? This is normal behavior with OBIEE 11g. It will still be there in physical layer.
2. What is the impact if I remove it from the physical layer? (Note: I tried this, so far no error, but not sure if later on I will encounter error because of this)There shudn't be any future problem incase you wanna delete it during developemet BUT think of a situation during Incremental Essbase Cube Import to OBIEE which was not possible in 10g (straight Forwardly).
I'd suggest to keep it as it is in Physical Layer inorder to avaoid any future issues/enhanced requirements.

Using CASE WHEN for Essbase column in OBIEE 11g

Hi all,
I have a business model in OBIEE 11g, taking the source from Essbase 11. The measures of the Essbase cube in the physical layer is flattened, and the aggregations for the measures are set to SUM.
The Product dimension has 5 generations. In Product logical table, I created a logical column called "Product Grouping" using a simple CASE WHEN formula:

Problems:
1. If I don't place this "Product Grouping" in the logical level/hierarchy, I got error in the report when I simply show Product Grouping and a measure.
2. If I place this "Product Grouping" in the logical level/hierarchy (on the 5th level), no more error in the report when I simply show "Product Grouping" and a measure. The measure value also shows the correct SUM (group by). However, when I add "Gen1,Product" the "Product Grouping" and the measure value suddenly becomes not grouped by.
Has anyone ever tried and encountered something like this? Any thoughts?

Hi Deepak, thansk for the suggestion.
However, I can't use calculated item for this report because:
1. incorrect result will be shown when my measures involve a formula to derive a percentage value.
2. calculated item is not available if we do "combine requests" (or union) in 11g.
Any thoughts anyone on how to solve this? Is this just me, or it's a bug?

OBIEE 11g performance problem

Hi,
I am facing a performance problem in OBIEE 11g. When I run the query taking from nqquery.log in database, it is giving me the result within few seconds. But In the OBIEE Answers the query runs forever not showing any data.

Hi Titas,
with such problems typically, at least for me, the cause turns out to be something simple and embarrassing like:
- I am connected to another database,
- The database is right but I have made some manual adjustments without committing them,
- I have got the wrong query from the query log,
- I have got the right query but my request is based on multiple queries.
Do other OBIEE reports work fine?
Have you tried removing columns one by one to see whether it makes a difference?
