Building a drop down menu like this (tutorials, help, examples)

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has any working drop menus like this
one out there they could kindly share so I can deconstruct.
http://www.simonds.com.au/?f=1
I am able to replicate the effect using tweens and basic AS
but the process I have used involves hitareas being place all
around the outside of the menus to get them to slide back in when I
rolloff the menu (and onto the hit areas). They thing works but is
quite ugly and makes the space unneath these hit areas comprimised.
Hopefully someone has a bit more of an intelligent design
using more AS without losing the smoothness of the animation I
could take a look at.
If anyone could assist would be great
http://www.simonds.com.au/?f=1

Hi Feldkircher ,
No at this stage I am only using text images (.gifs) as the
menu items. Just aslong as I can replicate a similar smoothness of
the animation shown in the link I provided is all I am after. I'll
send you the examples I have created. Whenever I code my dropmenu I
can replicate the flyout ok, but its when the user mouse their
mouse away and the menu is still out I run into trouble.
Whether I need to learn a few more objects I'm just not sure.
Another problem I have to regards to the smoothness of the
fly out of the submenu is that the way I have written it
eg:
onrollover menubtn gotoandplay the fly out animation which
will run from frame 1-5 etc
& if you rolloff the menu gotoandplay the closing fly in
animation 10-15 etc
But if the user rolls onto another menu option while the fly
out animation is playing between 1-5 the closing animation will
obviously play and the animation becomes looks staggered. Just not
sure on how I code that function to make it play the full 1-5 frame
before the closing animation plays.
Thanks again for any help

  • I want to build a drop down menu like the one featured here

    Hi there, I am wanting to build a drop down menu exactly like the one on this site (see college information button, top right)
    http://www.barnsley.ac.uk/index.php
    I have a lot of content, and really like the idea of hiding behind a button at the top, and when the user clicks on it it opens up and pushes the rest of the page down!
    Anyone know how?

    jQuery isn't a program as much as a collection of tools and effects built in JavaScript, a "framework".
    Here's a tutorial that will help you build what you're looking for:

  • ICal drop down menu is black Please Help!!

    How do I change my I-Cal back to a color where I can actually view what is on the drop down menu. Right now when I look at it, it is black and I can't set the times and alerts and alarm. Please Help

    I am also having the same problem and I have noticed that the calendar icon in my dock only shows the date in black and not the calendar background photo until I start iCal then the icon shows up with the background icon. When I quit iCal the background disappears again and only the date number is visible. Very odd. Both of these problems started when I upgraded iCal a while back and the problem has persisted for over a year now. Not sure what the problem is.

  • Drop Down menu, but with icons, see example

    I really need to do a drop down like this:
    http://www.theraider.net/,
    with the cool little icon on each line. I'm a GoLive user and
    Dreamweaver user, and I use MenuMachine on GL to do basic menus,
    but can't find any quite that intuitive for Dreamweaver. Anyway,
    can anyone more knowledgeable than me tell how the guy did that? Is
    that Javascript? A extension of some kind?

    Just to make it easier, I'm referring to the top 5 or so
    buttons, News, etc., that start with a graphic rollover, then drop
    down a text menu. I've looked at PVII stuff, but it does not appear
    to allow me to start with a graphic rollover, then drop down the
    menu. I could live for now without the icons on each line. Any
    other options?

  • How to configure drop down menu in custom list

    Hi,
    I want to create custom list with 3 options. Active, Proposal and Completed. How can I create drop down menu like this (look at picture).

    Hi,
    According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to configure drop down menu in custom list.
    I suggest to modify the view to group by Preposition Status.
    You can follow the steps as below:
    Create list, add choice column named Preposition Status.
    Add items.
    Modify the view as below:
    Then the result is as below:
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Drop Down Menu's

    Hi All!
    I want to create a simple drop down menu like this one - http://www.feathers-ledbury.co.uk.
    How can I go about doing this?
    Cheers
    T

    Let's forget where you are and concentrate on where you want to go. I presume you have edited your iMovie project, and within the Movies folder on your disc there will be a project folder with the name of your movie inside which are at least three items, the project file, a media folder and a .mov file. Locate this in finder.
    Load iDVD, hit the customize button below the viewing screen and in the sliding pane select themes. Pull down the iDVD menu and select preferences and choose best quality and either PAL or NTSC.
    Now drag the .mov file for your project folder into the middle of the viewing screen of iDVD. You could burn it there and then but you might prefer to try the look of different themes.
    If you pull down project > project info you can see the current length. If you now click settings on the customize pane you will see all the possibilities for amending the display.
    Must explanation may not be good but it is a simple task to create a DVD this way. Forget share in iMovie, it can introduce other problems, give it a try and come back if you are stuck.

  • How Do You Build A DPS Drop Down Menu?

    Hello,
    I've been working with Adobe DPS for a year and a half now, and also use edge and muse for some of the HTML5 solutions - though both Edge and Muse are still very unstable for my liking within a Folio.
    However, I would like to build a "Drop Down Menu" that will work within a Folio. I have tried Edge, but, because of the resolution issues with Edge, I always get the Type "Appearance" being too large. With Muse, it is too inconsistent and works sometimes and does not work sometimes. So, is this a technique I should abandon until Adobe comes up with an answer/solution for us?
    Is there a better way? InDesign allows me to create amazing drop down menu's, but, iOS does not support SWF files.
    I'm stuck with no answers, can you help?
    Thank you
    Lain

    I don't know if that is the only way. Someone else here may have a different solution.
    Have you looked at Dreamweaver? It is a pretty powerful tool and is WYSIWYG. You should be able to create the necessary html and css (maybe java scipt and jquery too) there and use that in your html overlay.

  • HT2242 this doesnt work! Here is a screen print. English is NOT in the drop down menu to choose!

    English is not in my drop down menu! This is not helping!

    Languages are determined by the serial number and region-specific installers. If a language is not listed, it's notr supported by the installer or your serial doesn't allow it. If you feel that is not what you want, get in touch with support to obtain an English version.

  • Help needed with CSS drop down menu

    Hi guys,
    I'm trying to build a drop down menu for my site but, despite seeing a few tutorials and examples, I've had no luck yet!
    I'm pretty sure my HTML is correct...
    Code:
        <ul id="nav">
        <li><a href="#">Menu 1</a></li>
        <li><a href="#">Menu 2</a></li>
        <li><a href="#">Menu 3</a>
                <ul>
                    <li><a href="#">Drop Down 1</a></li>
                    <li><a href="#">Drop Down 2</a></li>
                    <li><a href="#">Drop Down 3</a></li>
                    <li><a href="#">Drop Down 4</a></li>
                </ul>
            </li>
        <li><a href="#">Menu 4</a></li>
        <li><a href="#">Menu 5</a></li>
        </ul>
    My CSS looks like this at the moment...
    Code:
    ul#nav {width:920px; height:35px; list-style:none; padding:0; margin:0; background:url(navBg.jpg) repeat-x; font-family:'OpenSansRegular'; font-size:11px; font-weight:700; text-transform:uppercase; -moz-box-shadow:0px 0px 10px #1c1c1c; -webkit-box-shadow:0px 0px 10px #1c1c1c; box-shadow:0px 0px 10px #1c1c1c; z-index:999;}
    ul#nav li a:hover, #nav li a:active {background:url(navOn.jpg) repeat-x; text-decoration:none;}
    ul#nav li a {border-right:1px solid #000; color:#E0E2E7; display:inline-block; float:left; margin:0; padding:10px 19px; width:auto; text-decoration:none;}
    * html #nav li {display:inline; float:left; }  /* for IE 6 */
    * + html #nav li {display:inline; float:left; }  /* for IE 7 */
    ul#nav li ul {left:-9999px; position:absolute; list-style:none;}
    ul#nav li:hover ul {left:0; position:absolute;}
    ul#nav li ul li {}
    ul#nav li ul li a {width:230px; background-color:#efefef; color:#2e2e2e; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:10px; font-weight:normal; border-bottom:solid 1px #FFF; padding:7px; margin:0;}
    ul#nav li ul li a:hover {background-color:#028efd; background-image:none; color:#FFF;}
    I'm really struggling with this. Does anyone know how I can get Menu 3 to display the four drop down items beneath it - not the same width as the Menu 3 button but just inline with it.
    Thank you very much and I hope to hear from you.
    SM

    Try this. It's been adapted from a menu I previously made on another site.
    #menu {width:920px; height:35px; padding:0; margin:0; background:url(navBg.jpg) repeat-x; -moz-box-shadow:0px 0px 10px #1c1c1c; -webkit-box-shadow:0px 0px 10px #1c1c1c; box-shadow:0px 0px 10px #1c1c1c;}
    ul#nav a {font: 700 11px 'OpenSansRegular', arial, helvetica, sans-serif; text-transform:uppercase; margin:0; padding:5px 15px; line-height:25px; color: #666; text-decoration: none; display:block; list-style: none;}
    ul#nav a:hover, ul#nav a.active {color: #999; background:url(navOn.jpg) repeat-x; text-decoration:none;}
    ul#nav {position: relative; margin: 0; padding: 0;}
    ul#nav ul {display: none;}
    * html #nav li {display:block; float:left; }  /* for IE 6 */
    * + html #nav li {display:block; float:left; }  /* for IE 7 */
    ul#nav li, ul#nav li li {position: relative; float: left; list-style: none; border-right:1px solid #000;}
    ul#nav li:hover ul {position: absolute; top: 35px; left: -1px; display:block; padding: 0; margin: 0;}
    ul#nav li li {width:230px; background-color:#efefef; color:#000;  font: normal 10px 'OpenSansRegular', arial, helvetica, sans-serif; border-bottom:solid 1px #FFF; border-right:none; border-left:1px solid #000; padding:0 5px;}
    ul#nav li li:hover, ul#nav li li a:hover {background-color:#028efd; color:#FFF;}
    <body>
    <div id="menu">
    <ul id="nav">
        <li><a href="#">Menu 1</a></li>

  • Drop down menu and null pointer exception

    I am trying to build a drop down menu that gives you options on sorting a list (eg. it sorts on the Title) . The drop down must show which sort option has been selected after the sort occurs.
    I keep getting a "java.lang.NullPointerException". I realize this error arises from not assigning a variable to a specific object in java. I'm a .net developer who got thrown into customixing a java application and I just don't see the error. The error message didn't say on which line this occured but it is in the posted code.
    It worked for a while and now i gives me this error.
    Can someone help me please!?!?
    <%String     strCheck = new String("");%>                     </td>
                    <form action="ChangeSorting.jsp?recordView=<jsp:getProperty name='CumulusBean' property='recordView'/>" id="changeSortingForm" target="invisibleFrame" method="POST">
                         <td>
                   <select name="uid" size="1" onChange="document.getElementById('changeSortingForm').submit();">
                   <%if (session.getAttribute( "theUid" ).equals ("{1e58eab1-f625-4d6b-be82-ef0ea493cb7a}"))  {
                   strCheck = ("selected");
                    }%>
              <option value="{1e58eab1-f625-4d6b-be82-ef0ea493cb7a}"<%=strCheck%> >
                Title          </option>
    </form>     Thanks,
    Luis

    This is not JSF ..
    Anyway, it looks like that the following code returns nullsession.getAttribute( "theUid" )and invoking the equals() on it thus causes a NullPointerException.
    So check if this attribute really exists in the session and add a nullpointer check to the code. For example:if (session.getAttribute("theUid") != null && session.getAttribute("theUid").equals("blah")) { }

  • Can you display a calendar in a drop down menu to select a date

    I would like to display a calendar in a drop down menu like in
    outlook's calendar appointments. Is this possible with forms
    and how can it be done. I haven't been able to find anything in
    the book I have. Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks
    Jim

    I am sure this is possible. There is a calendar object on the Forms and Demos CD but I have created my own calendar just using a single form that is called from every date field.
    Create your calendar using a single date item that is populated by a parameter - this will be either the date from the field or sysdate. Create the other elements of the calendar as calculated items based on the first item +1, +2 etc. Use a when-mouse-click trigger to get the user's selection and pass it back to the date field via a global variable or a shared PL/SQL library.
    To make it more like the Outlook calendar you will have to add a button next to every date field and add code to position the calendar according to the field position. You may prefer not to bother to do that - I just open the calendar centrally on screen and activate it using key-listval and/or a pop-up menu.
    Hope this gives you an idea.

    Nigel Simpson
