Building a prototype in Sharepoint 2013
I would like to build a simple prototype in Sharepoint 2013. I spent 8 huors now trying to create a site template in a site collection residing in a web application. Almost everything I do fails. Sharepoint takes orever creating web applications, it takes
forever creating site collections, it refuses to crating pages stating that there is other pages with the same name, it refises to delete those copies, but states they are deleted.
I would suggest that Microsoft takes a time out and try to figure out how to define a minimum level on bugs and 'errormessages'. It's inhuman to not let users create a simple web page within a day.

Hello Tommy,
Sounds like you have some trouble with your environment. Can you check Health Analyzer, maybe there are some issues that need to be resolved?
Otherwise another option would be to create a SharePoint online environment by signing up for a trial of Office 365.

Building a GUI in SharePoint 2013
I’m planning on building some business processes that use SQL as the data source and allow SharePoint 2013 users to interact with the data. I’m not sure how to give the users a GUI inside SharePoint. I can use InfoPath, but that’s more for the data entry/collection
etc. I can use an Access Web App, but there are too many drawbacks. Can’t trigger workflows, cant access already existing databases, etc. The dashboards, Power View etc. are for reports, not data manipulation.
What exactly is the preferred method of creating a GUI inside SharePoint 2013 to allow this type of data interactionHi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you want to create a GUI inside SharePoint 2013 to allow SQL data interaction.
I recommend that you can create external content type and external list to display the SQL data. For more information:
How to Create an External List Including a Database from SharePoint Designer 2013 -
SharePoint 2013
To update external list with workflow, you can use the SharePoint designer workflow 2010 as the List Workflow action of the SharePoint 2013.
Here are some similar articles for your reference:

In addition, you can use app to solve this issue. See this post
for more details.

What is the build version for Sharepoint 2013 Server including trial version there is one?
Hello Community
When using WS2012 and Sharepoint 2013 Server, what
build version for a Sharepoint 2013 Server farm should
be applied and where do you get the cumulative update
for it (trial version also if there is one)?
Thank you
ShabeautHi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to know which SharePoint build version should be applied to Windows Server 2012 and where to get cumulative update.
If you want to use SharePoint in Windows Server 2012, you can use the RTM version 15.0.4420.1017.
For CU update and build version, I suggest you can refer the detailed article below:

Hi,
I am trying to build a 3-tier SharePoint 2013 farm.
1. SQL Server 2012, Windows 2012 VM
2. DC Server, Windows 2012 VM
3. SharePoint 2013, Windows 2012 VM
I didn't built the DC server. Someone else did. However, I created about 14 service domain user accounts for SQL Server and SharePoint install and operation.
I was able to join the SQL Server into the SharePoint server farm using SharePoint 2013 Product Configuration Wizard. When I start the Central Admin, and click on Servers in the Farm, I only see the SharePoint server and SQL server,
but the DC server is not listed. Any suggestion on what did I miss?
Thanks
JeanYou cannot join the Domain Controller to your SharePoint farm. You must instead join each server from that farm to the domain that is served up by that DC. You will want to uninstall SharePoint and probably SQL before you do this. If it's
an option, I would re-provision your VMs completely and start fresh. Once you login to a new server, join that server to the target domain like this:
http://www.petri.co.il/join-windows-server-2012-to-domain.htm
You'd have to ensure that your DNS resolves to the target domain on the server being joined to the domain. If it doesn't, you can always use HOSTS entries to overcome that in the short term.
Once you've joined both the future SQL and SharePoint servers to the domain, you can install SQL Server and then SharePoint on their prospective servers to create your farm.
I trust that answers your question...
Thanks

Hi, We are building company site with Sharepoint 2013 Enterprise Edition and were wondering what is the difference between Reporting Services Sharepoint Mode and Reporting Services Add In for Sharepoint 2013? What are the roles/purposes of each one? What
happens if only Reporting Services Sharepoint Mode installed or vise versa.
Thank you in advanceReporting Services in SharePoint mode is a service for displaying, managing, and creating SSRS reports within SharePoint. The addin is a pre-req for SharePoint that is used to display reports and is required for Reporting Services in Native or SharePoint
mode, but does not by itself do anything.

Configure an Environment for Apps for SharePoint 2013
hH,
We are building QA environment for Sharepoint 2013. For this my management asked me to configure the APPS store. But when i referred the MSDN article, they are suggesting
" You must purchase a domain name from a domain name provider for your apps, for example, ContosoApps.com."
Which is not possible in my case as purchasing a new domain requires lot of approvals also this is an QA environment.
So please suggest on the below points
1) whats wrong to build a sub domain like APPS.XXXX.COM instead of XXXXAPPS.COM
2) since it is in a QA environment, is it necessary to have a SSL ??
3) is it need to have a different APPS stores for QA & PROD environments.
Thanks,
Praveen
Sharepoint HELPHi Praveen,
you don't need to buy a domain use your internal DNS
no need for SSL since it is QA
i think you mean app catalog, each environment will be having it app catalog

Sharepoint 2013 Developer Knowledge
Hi,
I would like to know what basics are expected from 2 year experienced developer in sharepoint or rather what skills he should be proper at?Hi Sagar,
A SharePoint 2010 developer should have a solid understanding of SharePoint Architecture. C# experience building web parts, timer jobs, event receivers. You should be able to use your development skills to build solutions that extend SharePoint by reading
and writing to lists and libraries, BCS, User Profiles, and search.
All of this applies to SharePoint 2013 as well, however, I believe developing solutions using JavaScript or utilizing the App Model is more important going forward. JavaScript, HTML, and CSS allow you to build solutions in both SharePoint 2013 as well as
SharePoint Online (Office 365) and the skills are more reusable across other platforms.
If you look at the Office Developer Patterns and Practices repository on GitHub you will see all of the best practices (created by both Microsoft and the community) for building solutions in SharePoint 2013
and Office 365. Having a good understanding of how to implement these best practices seems like a good way to ensure your SharePoint development skills are up to date.

File: OWSSUPP.DLL
Folder: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15Hi,
i had the same problem. First we figured out, that the Report Builder was working in the Root Site Collection of a Web Application but not in any other Site Collection of the WebApplication.
After that we took a look how the Report Builder is started. The Content Type got a Click Once Application as Template, but you can't open the URL in the Browser neither the referenced file can be found in the Feature folder on the SharePoint Server. Turns
out SharePoint does some crazy http redirection and that this doesn't work on Site Collections which are not at the root. At least if you installed Reporting Services Add In Service Pack 1.
Fun Fact: If you start the Report Builder on the Root Site Collection you can create a Report which works on any Site Collection. Its just the launch if the Report Builder which is broken.
Our Solution was the SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 Cumulative Update 8 which fixed the Problem.
You can request a download here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2917531
Select the "2012_SP1_RSShrPnt_CU8_2917531_11_0_3401_x64" Fix and install it on every SharePoint Server in your Farm. -

How can i launch the report builder from client machines.
But when i try to launch the application from the server itself then it runs fine. I am not able to run it from client machines
kukdaiHi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you could not launch report builder in the client machine.
Did you install the .Net 4.0 framework on your machine?
.Net 4.0 framework needed to be installed on each user's machine, you can install it, then check whether it works.

As this is the forum for SharePoint server on-premise, I’m not familiar with the Reporting service, for this issue, I recommend you can post a new question in the forum for SQL Server Reporting Services.

How to build high usability navigation for Power View on SharePoint 2013?
I have Power View on SharePoint 2013. I have both SSAS Multidimentional and Tabular model in use.
I have several Report.drlx file in Report libary in SharePoint.
When I click the file, it works fine, but I feel that there are usability problems like:
A) Getting back to SharePoint site is not intuitive. Difficult to find home.
B) Diffucult to move between report to another. Need to return Document library.
What is best practise for displaying several Power View reports on SharePoint?
Kenny_IHi Kenny_I,
Just as you said, we cannot directly navigate to Home page when we view an .rdlx report in SharePoint site. We need click the Arrow to go to the previous page (Document Library), then click “Home” to navigate to Home page. If we want to move from a report
to another report, we should still use the same way. This is by design.
If you want to jump from one report to another report, we can add a hyperlink to a text box in a sheet or view. Personally, I understand your feeling and how frustrated when you find this issue. So, it is my pleasure to help you to reflect your recommendation
to the proper department for their consideration. Please feel free to submit your situation on our product to the following link:

Thank you for your understanding.

Accessing Sharepoint 2013 externally for domain users and customers
Just an FYI I am not a SP administrator by any means but have be tasked with taking over this project and could use some assistance.
Sharepoint 2013 is working fine internally. Users access the site and login with their domain credentials. Our client is moving one of their departments to another building down the street and we'd like them to be able to access local resources without the
use of another server or site to site vpn or standard vpn.
My question is, how do we make Sharepoint accessible outside of their local network?
If we open up a port on the router and have it forward all request to Sharepoint server will we be able to access it?
Also, how will they authenticating with the Sharepoint Server? Do they use the same user credentials?
I forgot to mention this is Sharepoint 2013 Enterprise Edition. We are also using Project Server 2013 as well.
Thanks in AdvanceHi 3s1k,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to access the SharePoint site from Internet.
You need to first ensure that you enable Anonymous Access for your web application. You'll then need to set up DNS for the domain you own to point to your web front end server (or virtual IP if it's load balanced). Then set up the appropraite IIS bindings
for the web application, and finally you'll need to extend your web application to an Internet Zone and give it the appropriate domain name.

Cannot install SharePoint 2013 with SP1 on server 2012 R2. IIS configuration error
Hey Guys,
I'm experiencing a problem which seems to be common considering the number of posts I've found about it, but none of the provided solutions worked for me.
I'm simply trying to install SharePoint 2013 with SP1 on a Windows Server Standard 2012 R2.
I've downloaded from the MS Volume Licensing website the "SharePoint Server 2013 with SP1" ISO file : SW_DVD5_SharePoint_Server_2013w_SP1_64Bit_English_MLF_X19-36118. So
this is the slipstreamed version which is supposed to bring compatibility with 2012 R2.
As I do not have direct access to the Internet I need to perform an offline installation. I also downloaded all prerequisities. When I run prerequisiteinstaller.exe with the necessary arguments, I get the following :
(Full log file is below)
I've tried the following :
- Restarted the server multiple times
- Manually removing/adding IIS role + restart
- Running the prerequisiteinstaller.exe from the DVD or from an extracted version
- Manually installing the prerequisities
- Installed .Net 3.5 as recommended here (http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/0b597d35-b02d-4236-894d-38efc0c7c6f6/sharepoint-2013-with-sp1-install-on-windows-server-2012-r2?forum=sharepointgeneral)
None of the worked. So I'm stuck and I must completed the installation of this before the end of the week for an important project !
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I've tried all suggested solutions, but no luck :-(
- tried http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2765260 > no help and by the way the hotfix provided is not applicable for 2012 R2.
also tried "C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\aspnet_regii -enable -i" and got this :

SharePoint 2013 and MS Office Web Apps - error in sharepoint's url calls OWAps
I have new SharePoint 2013 Server farm and one dedicated Office Web Apps (OWAps) server.
This farm is placed in one domain (Acompany.local). There is other domain BCompany.local whitch has both trusted to first domain (two diffirent forests, two company's branches).
Users from second domain BCompany.local well see intranet portal, build in sharepoint in the first domain (url like http://intranet.Acompany.local).
But, when they try to use OWAps, f.e. whatching preview or try to open docs for edit in browser - they see error in frame.
I'm looked it in google chrome's developer tools and find' that sharepoint use wrong url to call OWAps - like http://owaps/... instead of http://owaps.Acompany.local/...
When I created new office web app farm by:
New-OfficeWebAppsFarm -InternalURL "http://owaps.Acompany.local" - ExternalURL "http://owaps.Acompany.local" -AllowHttp -EditingEnabled
And in sharepoint farm new SWOPI binding by:
New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName "http://owaps.Acompany.local" -AllowHTTP
Get-SPWOPIBinding tell that all SWOPI bindings are http://owaps.Acompany.local, but in devtools I continue to see wrong http://owaps/... url
Any idea to fix this behavior? The reason WAC is recommended to be installed on a dedicated server is that it recreates the IIS sites/settings. This is why you're seeing the setting reset itself after restart.
What I'd probably recommend is creating a script that queries the WAC URL on a regular basis.

Office web apps Server for Sharepoint 2013
Hello,
I used the following article to install office web apps server and hook it up to a test sharepoint server:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219455(v=office.15).aspx. The OWAS service was verified as working by loading:
https://owas.companyname.com/hosting/discovery
For the sharepoint configuration phase, the following commands were run on the sharepoint machine:
1) New-SPWOPIBinding -ServerName "owas.companyname.com" -- (owas.companyname.com) is the host name of the owas server)
2) Get-SPWOPIZone
3) Set-SPWOPIZone -zone "external-https"
However, office documents are still launching in the desktop office applications, not in the browser. Any ideas of what else I may need to do?
thanks,
SherazadHi ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you fail to configure Office Web Apps for your SharePoint 2013.
How about run Get-SPWOPIZone? If you can get a result, it says that your SharePoint have connected with Office Web Apps.
Then you can run below command to change the zone to internal-https.
Set-SPWOPIZone -zone "internal-https"

Best practices TopLink Mapping Workbench multi-user + CVS?
