Building an i5-2500 desktop...not powering on

Hi there,
I am building an i5-2500 desktop with 16gb of Patriot DDR3 ram.  I am using my old Corsair 520w psu and an Geforce 430 Fermi gfx card.  I have checked everything to make sure all the cables are tightly plugged in.  When I goto turn it on the psu fan spins at the same time as the cpu fan, and does that once.  There's a lighton the board that turns on so I'm assuming my PSU isn't able to handle the new CPU.  I am running 2 sata drives.  There is no video or beeps.  Please any advice would be appreciated.  I am heading to the store in a bit to checkout a new PSU.  Thanks!
Sean

Do you have onboard video? You might need to go into the BIOS(while plugged into the onboard video) and set it to use the PCI card.

Unfortunately, that's the bad luck of any electronic, there's going to be bad Apples... wait that's a horrible pun.

  • Playbook not powering up, not charging, nothing

My BB playbook is not powering up when placed in the charging cradle or when plugged into a computer.  I have tried hard restart and all kinds of  things - I am not even getting a red light.
is there any way I can get it restarted, rebooted, or something so that it can take a charge.  I know it has to be powered up to charge - but right now nothing is working.  Please help!

Nope! It's just deeply and severely drained, and you'll notice references to that in the KB articles I linked for you.
This happened on one of my PlayBooks recently, and it too some patience and work...if it's not TOO deeply drained, you will begin to see some life eventually via the no battery icon, or a low orange glowing pulsating LED at the top of the device.
If it is VERY deeply drained, you will need to eventually use the PlayBook debricking method to bring it back to life. You will lose all media, pictures, etc., on the device however, if you have not made a previous backup.
Try this, while connected to your charger. Press and hold the Power key, up and down volume (-/+) all three buttons simultaneously, for about 10-12 seconds. You should the red LED blink and that should allow a reset of the PlayBook and to power up.
    After charging 24+ hours:
1- Press the powerbutton for about 20 seconds
2- Charge PB for 2 minutes (use stopwatch)
3- Disconnect powercable for 8 seconds
You have to repeat step 2 and 3 total of 10 times. Then reboot by pressing power and + key for 22 seconds.
Other users have reported this reset their device and got it working.
You need to follow these instructions to "debrick" your PlayBook:
    1. (skip this if the devce is dead due to no battery charge) Do a backup of your PlayBook using your computer and BlackBerry Desktop Software version 7 installed. It can be downloaded from http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/
    2. (skip this if the devce is dead due to no battery charge) Unplug the PlayBook and on the PlayBook press and hold down the power button until the unit forces the device off.
    3. With the Desktop Software still open on your computer and the PlayBook powered off, connect the PlayBook to your computer once again.
    4. You should see an error screen from Desktop Software popup with the options to Retry, Update, or Cancel.
Very quickly choose the Update option.
    5. All information will on your PlayBook will be erased and a reload of the Software will commence to install on the PlayBook.
    6. Once this is complete your PlayBook will go back through the initial (as if new) setup wizard (entering the BlackBerryID, etc., and then you can perform a restore using Desktop Software to return your personal data from the backup. Applications which you downloaded from AppWorld won't restore, but they can be easily reinstalled using AppWorld > MyWorld section of AppWorld.

You would probably be throwing good money after bad replacing components via trial and error.
You can get a used but working one for cheap on eBay.

  • Dv7-1025nr not powering up

My laptop does not power up at all.  I removed the battery, and unplugged the power adapter, held down the power button for 30 seconds to drain any build up.  Then I plugged in the power adapter (only the power adapter, NO battery), and pressed the power up button to turn the laptop on, but nothing powers up at all..NO lights or LED's come on.  Only light that glows when I plug in the power adapter, is the small light near the power input hole where the adapter connects to the laptop.
I replaced my power adapter with a brand new one (original equipment) and the same thing happens.
What is the next step in troubleshooting this problem?

    Hi there @gd2554,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel.
I understand that your notebook is not powering up at all, and that you have replaced the power adapter with a new one. I am happy to help.
Are you connected directly to a wall outlet or going through a power bar?  If possible use a direct power connection.
Next, if you haven't already, try using a different power outlet entirely.
Did you replace the entire power adapter including the power cord (assuming it is one of the adapter with a brick and a removable cord going to the wall outlet? Be sure to use the replacement cord as well, if you haven't already.
Then try going through all of the following:
Computer Does not Start (Windows 7, Vista, XP)
Battery Charging Is Not Indicated in Vista or Charging LED Does Not Turn On
If there is no sign of life then it is likely the issue is on the main board of the notebook itself, in which case, I would recommend, calling our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region.

So that couldn't have been the problem. There doesn't seem to be any indication on the AUR page that someone else ran into this problem. I also checked the upstream site as well as the mailing lists, and didn't see anything resembling my problem.
Just to make sure that I hadn't downloaded some bad build from git, I also tried installing the multipath-tools package from the AUR, since that should have at least worked for the packager. However, I got the exact same (albeit sooner cause it didn't have to download git sources):

I'm guessing there's probably some configuration issue with my machine causing this problem, but I have no idea where it would come from. If anybody else has any other ideas on how to proceed, I'd be really appreciative. And if any more information is needed, let me know! Thanks!

Of course, soon after I post this, I stumble upon the solution. It turns out that having a path with a space in it can cause certain packages to bug out while building. I changed the "AUR Packages" folder to "AUR-packages", and then it built successfully. Guess that's something to look out for.

  • My iphone 5 is not powering the scree, when i connect the iphone to the power it only vibrates

my iphone 5 is not powering the scree, when i connect the iphone to the power it only vibrates o make the connect sound (is like the sound when you connect the phone to power) and the screen remains black, itunes recognizes the iphone, but i cannot do a hard reset because the power button does not work, and have password in my phone so itunes wond restore it. i want to know if is a hardware problem like the mother board o something. help please

If you have iOS 7 installed, you can try to restore it via the instructions given by lllaass in https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5634135
As an alternative, you could take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the techs test it and see what is wrong beyond the failed power button.

  • Copying iMovie back to tape: "your firewire camera is not powered on"

I'm trying to follow iMovie 6 instructions for copying a movie back to tape.
I connected my camcorder to the computer with the firewire cable, and it shows up in the Share-->Video Camera menu as an attached device. (It's a Canon Elura 100, btw.)
So all seems well until I start the procedure, and then I get a "Cannot Export to Camera" error message that says "your firewire camera is not powered on or is not available."
My ever so slow brain thinks this might have something to do with the fact that I'm using the DV/firewire cable that I used to import the footage into my iMac, and maybe it only sends stuff OUT the firewire end, and won't send video the other way?
Do I need a different kind of firewire cable?

    Thanks for your assistance!
I bought this camcorder from Amazon.com (USA) and I have not daisy-chained it anywhere. I've only connected it to one device at a time. It is capable of receiving digital as well as analog video, and can convert analog to digital.
For example, I used my stereo-video cable to transfer footage from an old VHS tape played by our VCR to my Canon Elura camcorder via the Canon's AV terminal.
Once the tape was safely transferred into my Canon camcorder, I then plugged my DV/firewire cable into the Canon's DV terminal, and the firewire end of it into the iMac. iMovie saw the Canon camcorder and imported all the footage very nicely.
Now I would like to transfer the edited footage from iMovie back to a mini DV tape, and my iMovie help file says I can do it, but it's a little sketchy on what cables I should be using.
The firewire/DV cable I used to send the footage IN to iMovie isn't working to receive the edited footage OUT of iMovie. So maybe I need a different kind of firewire cable?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

  • 'build waveform' in cluster-constant not possible?

I would like to read a 2d-array of a cluster from file that contains - beside 4 clusters - a waveform.
As far as I understand, you have to determine the byte-stream-type for the "read-file" operation.
In order to do so I tried to generate a 2d-array-constant that contains the cluster mentioned above with all values as empty constants.
But soemhow it doesnt seem to work for "build waveforms". I am not able to put the waveform inside the cluster!?
    Any ideas so far?
    Thanks in advance
    Thomas

I'm a lttle confused. You can put a waveform datatype inside a cluster and put that cluster inside an array and make that array multi-dimensional. This is all easily done on the front panel. Putting a function like "Build Waveform" inside a cluster doesn't work any more than trying to put an arithmetic function inside a cluster. Clusters hold valid datatypes, not functions. If I've misunderstood your problem, could you explain a little more?

  • How to create a Pooled VDI infrastructure using Win server 2012 as VM image?I have followed the "usual" way to build a pooled VDI desktop using Win7 or Win8 with success, but it fails when I use an image of Win Server 2012 as VM

I have followed the "usual" way to build a pooled VDI desktop using Win7 or Win8 with success, but it fails when I use an image of Win Server 2012 as VM instead.
Am I overlooking something?  Should I need to prepare the image in a different way? (Sysprep differently?)
    Thanks

    Hi,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Can you specify the error which you are facing during VDI setup for server 2012?
I might think that you need to check the memory setting for server 2012, as might happens that due to less memory you can’t setup the VDI setup properly.
Memory: If the Master VM is configured with static memory, it must have at least 1024 MB as startup RAM. If the Master VM is configured with dynamic memory, the maximum RAM must be at least 1024 MB.
Please check beneath article for information.

how to print to my wireless all in one  photosmart prem c410 when printer is not powered on?

    Hi,
You cant print to a printer that you physicly turned off. Most network printer have a sleep mode, so leave it on and after a while it should go into a sleepmode. And should wake up when a printjob is being sent.

  • 27" thunderbolt monitor is not powering back on with Laptop

Since updating to the new version of Yosemite my 27" thunderbolt monitor is not powering back on when plugged into my laptop via the thunderbolt port. Suggestions on how to get it back up?

Apple Support had me reset the SMC and after doing so my monitor came back up and functioned like it was supposed to.  Support said sometimes after updates we need to reset the SMC if changes aren’t cleared from the previous update resulting in behaviors like I was experiencing. Below are the steps i followed to reset the SMC.....
    1. Shut down the computer.

2 Plug in the MagSafe or USB-C power adapter to a power source and to your computer.

3 On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.

4 Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.

5 Press the power button to turn on the computer.

On MagSafe power adapters, the LED might change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
