Building distribution with CVI2010 always needs something from the install DVDs

Using CVI 2010, installed from NI Dev Suite 2011 with all the defaults. When I try to build a distribution, something is always missing and must be found on the DVD.  If I don't have the DVD with me, I can't build the distribution.  It must be something simple, I know, but its not obvious what must be installed from the DVD to keep this from happening.

If you include additional components, when you build the distribution for the first time you must insert a CD or a DVD, but as stated in the CVI help for Distribution Needed Dialog Box
In the Distribution Not Found dialog box, enable the Cache products pulled from this distribution locally for future builds to copy all necessary components from a distribution into a permanent location on the target system. When you initiate future builds, the local system finds these components instead of prompting you to insert a distribution CD.

    Please help.

Sounds like you may have a hardware problem since it won't read from DVD, and it is only a year and a half old.  Hopefully all it is, is bad RAM*:

  • How do I create a start-up disk image without restarting from the Install DVD?

(I know this is not MacBook Pro question per se, but I can't find a software discussion this applies to.)
    Situation:
My MBP is running, but it's acting up and Onyx tells me that the start-up volume needs repair and directs me to use Disk Utility.
But to repair a volume using Disk Utility, you must restart from the original Install DVD (or some other start-up volume).
But although the MBP will read my old Leopard Install DVD and the Install DVD that came with my MBP, it refuses to restart from either of them. (Trying to do so gets as far as the Apple logo on a gray screen and then hangs there; all disk activity ceases.)
    Question:
How can I (is it even possible to) create a start-up volume on my external FW drive without starting my MBP from a DVD?
In other words, is there a way to either:
    a) create a disk image from the Install DVD on my external FW drive and then designate that disk image as my start-up drive?
    OR
    b) create a disk image on my MBP's internal drive that I can then use to run a System Install on my external drive?
(BTW, I know I can create disk images using Disk Utility, but it offers many options for type, compression, etc., that are beyond me. )
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

OS X Lion includes a new feature called Lion Recovery that includes all of the tools you need to reinstall Lion, repair your disk, and even restore from a Time Machine backup without the need for optical discs.
Restart your Mac holding down the Command-R to enter the Recovery HD.
From there you can use Disk Utilty.

  • My Mail program has gone south on Leopard on my 27-month old Macbook. I can't send, even though the server details are correct. I tried reinstalling from the install DVD - but no go: no longer compatible, evidently.. What to do?

My Mail program has gone south on Leopard on my 27-month old Macbook. I can't send, even though the server details are correct. I tried reinstalling the Mail program from the install DVD, but no go; apparently that two-year old Mail is no longer compatible with my up-to-date Leopard. I tried deleting the account (hotmail) from Mail and setting up a different account (Yahoo). After loading all the inbox two things happened: first, I still couldn't send, and second, when I closed the Mail window the whole inbox then disappeared and doesn't come back. Although I couldn't reinstall the Mail program from the install DVD, would it still be possible to reinstall the whole system from that DVD? If I do, will I lose files or will there be another problem since that DVD is now over two years old?
Thanks for any suggestions; they will be much appreciated.
P.S. I've just noticed that now I can't change the desktop picture: I go through the motions in Preferences, but the new picture doesn't appear on the desktop. Is there a systemic problem?

You are waiting for an apology to something that happened over a year ago? Really? This is why there is a manager in the store. You have a problem with an employee you speak to the manager. Just like you did on the phone. You would have gotten your apology in July 2013.
Here is the information about your upgrade fee.
    Upgrade Fee
It is because when you have a problem you (customers) go running to the store and want to take up the time of the reps to fix it. Other carriers have third parties that deal with technical support and those locations are few and far between. VZW provides this directly through their stores. Also, when you subsidize a $650 and pay $200 VZW has to pay $400. Your monthly service fee doesn't begin to scratch the surface of paying that back. Not with all the money that is put into the network and its improvements.
Then over a year later you get someone on the phone who apologized and offered to waive the fee on your phone and you didn't take it? That offer won't come down the pike again.
One thing you should know is that all these employees are people and as such they sometimes come off cross. I doubt that you speak to everyone so sweetly all the time. Cut them a little slack and put this whole thing behind you after 15 months. Either upgrade with VZW or move on.

  • Starting from the install dvd

I am would like to reset the admin and the password. Help says to start from the install dvd. I put it in held the c key untill the gray apple came on. The drive starts like it is going to start, then stops and the zero with the slash comes on and all stops. This an IMac G5 running 10.4.10, using the 10.4 dvd.
    Thanks

Make sure the Install DVD is the one that *originally came w/your computer*, not scratched, dirty or smudged.
The Install DVD does take awhile to complete. Just keep holding down the "c" key until it takes.

  • Hard disk errors, but can't boot from the install DVD

My mini reports disk errors when I run the Disk Utility Verify on the main boot hard drive. However, I have not been able to boot the computer from the install DVD. I try restarting while holding down the C key, and still it boots from the internal drive. I've tried option-restart, and do not get the opportunity to select a boot disk. An external USB drive, on which I periodically clone the main disk, now does not mount. Disk Utility says it too has errors, and it is unable to repair them. A third external USB drive appears to be OK.
The computer is still operating, apparently normally, otherwise. This computer should still be under warranty. I bought it in April, as I recall.
Any help will be much appreciated.

    <sigh>
I've attempted most of these things.
The drive on which I had the system clone died at essentially the same time as the problem came up with the errors on the main drive. I suspect this was due to the same root cause, or a related problem, just because of the timing. I'd cloned the main drive approximately a week previously with apparently no problem.
I also have been unable to boot from the install DVD.
The other external drive, the one that still works, is one I use mostly for rolling backups of my documents, photo and music folders. It is not big enough to hold a clone of the main drive. In any case, I'm assuming that if I attempted to clone it now, it would either not work, or I'd simply copy the errors to the clone.
I haven't used the Time Machine, since I didn't feel I had an external drive large enough to make it useful.
What 3rd party software do you recommend? Keep in mind, as I also mentioned earlier, that the computer is still under warranty, and I'm loath to do anything that could be construed as voiding the warranty.
I'm also on a pretty restricted budget, due to recent car repairs.

  • Cannot start up from the install DVD

I have a Macbook and I need to run the disk utility and repair the start up disk. I insert the Tiger install DVD, hold down the c key as I restart, but it always starts up from the start up disk, not the DVD.
    What gives?
OK some more info. I got the Macbook used and it did not come with the install disk. But I have a DVD of Tiger I bought to run on my old G4 which I am using to start up on the Macbook.
Macbook version is 10.4.8, DVD version is 10.4.6.

    Hi--
I think the problem is this. Your MacBook is Intel
based. The Tiger DVD install disk you said you used
for your G4 is for a PowerPC.
Carolyn is correct. You'd need the discs that came with your MacBook in order to start up your MacBook. The operating system on the Tiger DVD is only for the PowerPC. There are currently no "generic" retail Tiger installers for Intel Macs, because all the currently shipping Intel Macs came with Tiger, and there's no reason for the retail Tiger discs to have the Intel code..
You should try calling Apple and see if they'll let you order replacement installer discs for your MacBook.

  • Can I always repair permissions from the install disc, even after updates?

Does anyone know if I can always repair permissions properly from my original install disc that came with my iMac thats 10.4.1. I now am 10.4.3 and was wondering if things change with every update rendering the install disc out of date for permission repair.
I read some where on the internet that after you update from the original OS you should just use disc utility. I know nothing about this sort of thing, any help on this and the types of utilities I might need would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe this is dumb, but what do you mean by don't believe the hype on permissions repair.
are you talking about the posting I read about not being able to continuously update and boot from the original OS disks, or that repairing permissions is overated as far as system maintanence.
I get a lot of conflicting advise on system maintanence. Thats why I ask this. I'm fairly new to macs and how to keep them going problem free.
    by the way,...
    thanks for the replies guys
Yes, he can do the same with overkill third-party
utilities that aren't on a bootable disc for which
he's already paid. (And is Disk Utility so hard to
use that we need third-party utilies with this
    function?)
Hmm. What if he specifically needs a bootable disc
that can repair permissions? Can't assume his
specific needs and environment when he hasn't
    detailed them.

  • Is it possible to install a single component from the install dvd?

My install went very well, however the only problem is that the colorsync utility will  not launch. I would rather not do a complete reinstall of the entire system... ( particularly because of my shrinking HD). Can I do this?
    Thanks in advance, Carl

Carl, you could try a couple things that may solve your problem.
    1) Run "Repair Disk Permissions" using Disk Utility which is found in your UTILITIES folder inside your Application folder.
    2) Startup your computer holding down the SHIFT key. Wait for the computer to startup completely, then restart again.
    3) Find your ColorSync preferences and trash them. Perhaps a corrupt preference file is not allowing you to launch the app.
    Good luck!

  • Ilife not installing from Software install DVD

    Hi,
I have a G5 that came preinstalled with 10.3 and the iLife programs (iphoto, iDVD, etc). Over time, I upgraded to 10.3.9. Recently my computer was having problems, so I did an erase and install from the original Software install and restore DVD to 10.3 (my computer came with one dvd). Now my computer has iphoto 2.0 and no iDVD. I can't open iphoto because i had been using a more recent version. I'm pretty sure my computer came with the iLife 04 apps, why won't it install them from the original software DVD?
Thanks in advance for any help

Thanks, that was helpful. I was able to see that my Installation install and restore DVD only has iPhoto 2, and no iDVD.
I found the box that my computer came in and it says that I should have the iLife 04 programs. The only thing I can figure is that I got a seperate iLife DVD with the computer, and have lost it. I can't think of any reason that software would be missing from the install DVD.

  • HT4914 once subscribed, does the main computer with library always need to be on in order for other devices to work?

I am trying to figure out if iMatch is right for my family.  We have 2 iPhones, 2 iPads, an iPod Touch, and a few PCs.  One PC has our music library on it in iTunes.  We want to all share from the library with our own separate devices.  If we subscribe to iMatch, does everyone need to use the same ID to access the library? Does the main PC with library need to remain on constantly for other devices to gain access? And my daughter has the iPod and we would like to control the content she is able to access, is this possible with iMatch?  Thanks

You will all need to use the same id that you subscribe to iTunes Match with (that will need to be the account that is signed into on the devices/computers that you want to access the music from), but your computer doesn't need to remain on - when you subscribe your library is uploaded from that computer to the cloud, so it only needs to be 'on' then, when it's finished uploading it will be accessible from the cloud on your devices/computers via your internet connection.

After hiding them on your Mac's iTunes try logging out of your account on your phone and then log back into it.
