Building Facebook apps in Flash CS3?

Hi all,
Can Facebook apps be written in Flash CS3 or do I have to use Flex? I'm more comfortable with Flash, but it seems geared toward Flex.
One of the Facebook SDK examples (FriendsList_flash) contains an FLA file but it won't load in Flash CS3. Does it require a new version or am I doing something wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Barry

Hello Friends,
Can anyone give me some code hints of how to connect facebook from Flash cs3. I have installed the Flash component file "Facebook_library_v3.4_flash". But its documentation is too bad and has no code hints.

  • Is there a way to build an App with CS5.5 that can run in older iPods

    Hello
    Does anybody know if there is a way to build an app with flash CS5.5 that can run in older iPods?, just like with CS5?
    Each IPA I build with CS5.5 cannot be installed in my iPod 8GB with iOS 4.2 and before with CS5 I could install all the IPAs there and test.
    The lack of support to iPod 8GB would be limitating for the market and sales...
    Is there some setting to build IPA to older iPods?
    Thanks

    AIR 2.7 release notes:
    AIR runs on "iPodTouch 4th generation iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4iPad".
    But:
    AIR 2.7 runs on iPod Touch 3rd Generation, too - but only on the 32GB and 64GB models. The 8GB model is in fact only an older 2nd gen iPod Touch.
    We tested this and we even have some apps in the app store running on the iPod Touch 3rd gen.

    Hello,
    Does anybody know any good guide or tutorial for build iOS apps in flash?
    I had done an application which is in "Waiting for review", but I made it lineal, without packages or clases, because I don't know them, so i used pure ActionScript in a single FLA.
    I don't know what people can say when they mention AIR ... I don't have that? (or I do)?)
    I need to make an app that is basically a book, so I need smooth paging and scrolling technique

  • AIR Intrinsic Classes-Tried and Proven Approach to building AIR applications   in the Flash CS3 IDE

    Hi everyone,
    For all of you out there who would like to develop AIR
    applications
    from the Flash CS3 IDE but aren't sure how to get those pesky
    intrinsic
    classes working, I have a technique that you can work with to
    create
    your classes and make fully functional AIR applications.
    First of all, those solutions out there that list
    "intrinsic" functions
    in their class definitions won't work. That keyword has been
    taken out
    and simply won't work. The "native" keyword also doesn't work
    because
    Flash will reject it. The solution is to do dynamic name
    resolution at
    runtime to get all the classes you need.
    Here's a sample class that returns references to the "File",
    "FileStream", and "FileMode" classes:
    package com.adobe{
    import flash.utils.*;
    import flash.display.*;
    public class AIR extends MovieClip {
    public static function get File():Class {
    try {
    var classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.File');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get File
    public static function get FileMode():Class {
    try {
    var
    classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.FileMode');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get FileMode
    public static function get FileStream():Class {
    try {
    var
    classRef:*=getDefinitionByName('flash.filesystem.FileStream');
    } catch (err:ReferenceError) {
    return (null);
    }//catch
    return (classRef);
    }//get FileStream
    }//AIR class
    }//com.adobe package
    I've defined the package as com.adobe but you can call it
    whatever you
    like. You do, however, need to import "flash.utils.*" because
    this
    package contains the "getDefinitionByName" method. Here I'm
    also
    extending the MovieClip class so that I can use the extending
    class
    (shown next) as the main Document class in the Flash IDE.
    Again, this is
    entirely up to you. If you have another type of class that
    will extend
    this one, you can have this one extend Sprite, Math, or
    whatever else
    you need (or nothing if it's all the same to you).
    Now, in the extending class, the Document class of the FLA,
    here's the
    class that extends and uses it:
    package {
    import com.adobe.AIR;
    public class airtest extends AIR{
    public function airtest() {
    var field:TextField=new TextField();
    field.autoSize='left';
    this.addChild(field);
    field.text="Fileobject="+File;
    }//constructor
    }//airtest class
    }//package
    Here I'm just showing that the class actually exists but not
    doing much
    with it.
    If you run this in the Flash IDE, the text field will show
    "File
    object=null". This is because in the IDE, there really is no
    File
    object, it only exists when the SWF is running within the
    Integrated
    Runtime. However, when you run the SWF as an AIR application
    (using the
    adl.exe utility that comes with the SDK, for example), the
    text field
    will now show: "File object=[object File]". Using this
    reference, you
    can use all of the File methods directly (have a look here
    for all of
    them:
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/labs/flex/3/langref/flash/filesystem/File.html).
    For example, you can call:
    var appResource:File=File.applicationResourceDirectory;
    This particular method is static so you don't need an
    instance. If you
    do (such as when Flash tells you the property isn't static),
    simply
    create an instance like this:
    var fileInstace:File=new File();
    fileInstance.someMethod('abc'); //just an example...read the
    reference
    for actual function calls
    Because the getter function in the AIR class returns a Class
    reference,
    it allows you to perform all of these actions directly as
    though the
    File class is part of the built in class structure (which in
    the
    runtime, it is!).
    Using this technique, you can create references to literally
    *ALL* of
    the AIR classes and use them to build your AIR application.
    The beauty
    of this technique is its brevity. When you define the class
    reference,
    all of the methods and properties are automatically
    associated with it
    so you don't need reams of code to define each and every
    item.
    There's a bit more that can be done with this AIR class to
    make it
    friendlier and I'll be extending mine until all the AIR
    classes are
    available. If anyone's interested, feel free to drop me a
    line or drop
    by my site at
    http://www.baynewmedia.com
    where I'll be posting the
    completed class. I may also make it into a component if
    there's enough
    interest. To all of you who knew all this already, I hope I
    didn't waste
    your time.
    Happy coding,
    Patrick

    Wow, you're right. The content simply doesn't show up at all.
    No
    JavaScript or HTML parsing errors, apparently. But no IE7
    content.
    I'll definitely have to look into that. In the meantime, try
    FireFox :)
    I'm trying to develop a panel to output AIR applications from
    within the
    Flash IDE. GSkinner has one but I haven't been able to get it
    to work
    successfully. Mine has exported an AIR app already so that's
    a step in
    the right direction but JSFL is a tricky beast, especially
    when trying
    to integrate it using MMExecute strings.
    But, if you can, create AIR applications by hand. I haven't
    yet seen an
    application that allows you to change every single option
    like you can
    when you update the application.xml file yourself. Also, it's
    a great
    fallback skill to have.
    Let me know if you need some assistance with AIR exports.
    Once you've
    done it a couple of times, it becomes pretty straightforward.

  • Flash CS3 fl.* package cannot be used in Flex Builder 3

    Hi,
    I was very disappointed to find out that one cannot import
    the fl.* package, which is available for flash CS3. I found a work
    around by creating swc file and importing them, however it's
    disappointing that flash CS3 would have such a major advantage over
    Flex Builder 3 when building an Action Script 3.0 Application.
    Best, E

    I've looked over that sample.
    Part of the problem is that I don't have access to
    mx.effects. I think this is because that example is a Flex 3
    Project and has a MXML file attributed to it. I opened a Flex 3
    project and was able to access mx.effects - but my project is
    different in that it's an ActionScript project - meaning, I opened
    an ActionScript project in Flex Builder 3. Apperantly the
    ActionScript projects don't have access to mx.effects.Tween. And
    niether do they have access to fl.transitions.Tween. It's strange -
    and I'm trying to find a way to access them by connecting the build
    path to the Tween classes somehow.
    My project preferences already have the fl.* folders in the
    build path. It just still doesn't seem to work.

  • Problems with Dashboard Demo App in Flash Builder 4

    I imported the Adobe Flex Dashboard app into Flash Builder 4 using SD 4.1 and selected "Use Flex 3 compatibility mode", but there are still some issues after import.
    I'm not talking about having to create the "libs" folder and re-generate the HTML templates. I know why that needs to be done. I'm also not talking about the IStroke and IFill errors you get for the number of arguments to the apply() and begin() methods, as those interfaces changed in Flex 3.5.
    But when I get the app launched, the chart datatips are just a black rectangle (no text) and the combobox entry text is invisible.
    I'm going to try and fix these, but I thought selecting "Use Flex 3 compatibility mode" meant no changed required?

    Here is a simple example. Create a new project in Flash Builder 4 and in the project properties  compiler section, select "Use Flex 3 compatibility mode". Then launch the app, hover over a column in the chart and you see black rectangles, not data tips. Why is this and how to fix?

  • How to build a custom Flash CS3 component

    I just googled in the hope to find some resources about how
    to build custom Flash CS3 components, but nothing turned up. I also
    couldn't find any info on Adobe's Flash developers center.
    Do you know of any resource that sheds some light on this
    subject?
    If not then I'll have to try to find my way around custom
    components by learning from the ones that came with Flash CS3 I
    guess.

    Flash CS3 has been out for a few weeks. At this point, your
    best bet is Amazon books or Barnes & Noble. I've read a few
    books that should shed light on the subject. Otherwise, you'll need
    to wait a few more weeks while people start hashing it out and
    posting it to blogs and other sites.

  • Flash CS3 vs. Flex Builder 2

    Here's the $64,000 question: should we be developing in Flash
    CS3 or should we shift over to Flex Builder 2? I maintain that AS
    3.0 is a pain in the proverbial, but I've been researching and
    finding as much help as possible online about it, and I've found
    that by and large people are using Flex Builder 2 as the basis of
    tutorials about AS 3.0. Does anyone have an official slant on this
    question? Should we abandon Flash for Flex? Will it help? Will it
    mitigate the difficulties non-programmers are experiencing with AS
    3.0 - or as I call it simply ***? Would I be getting more responses
    to my *** questions if I post them over in the *** forum under Flex
    Builder?
    Any thoughts on this matter would be most welcome, thank
    you.

    I don't know that I'd call it a luxury, really. Work is
    work. ;) As
    you might imagine, though, Flex Builder 2 provides a number
    of scripting
    improvements over the Actions panel (there's really no
    comparison; if you've
    tried them both, the Actions panel barely feels useful) and
    the Flex
    framework offers significantly more UI Components. Ideally,
    if the pocket
    book allows it, using both applications is the killer setup.

    When you say imported, you mean dynamically loaded (loaded
    at runtime),
    right? Otherwise, I'm confused. The Flash IDE itself allows
    you to
    determine the quality of imported JPGs. In ActionScript 3.0
    ... are you
    talking about the Stage.quality property?

    Not sure what might be tripping you up, actually. The
    coordinate grid
    is the same. Horizontally, higher numbers move toward the
    right;
    vertically, higher numbers move toward the bottom. That's the
    same as it's
    been.

    each end

    Having heard what you're after, I just started a quick
    experiment from
    scratch. Here's my version, below. Note: I've made no effort
    to optimize
    my code. This is just a first draft to achieve a blue line
    segment with
    green dots on each end that becomes a black line segment when
    the mouse
    lifts.
    var startX:Number;
    var startY:Number;
    var canvas:Sprite = new Sprite();
    addChild(canvas);
    canvas.stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,
    mouseDownHandler);
    canvas.stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,
    mouseUpHandler);
    function mouseDownHandler(evt:MouseEvent):void {
    startX = mouseX;
    startY = mouseY;
    var dot:Sprite = new Sprite();
    dot.name = "dotStart";
    dot.graphics.beginFill(0x00FF00);
    dot.graphics.drawCircle(mouseX, mouseY, 5);
    dot.graphics.endFill();
    canvas.addChild(dot);
    dot = new Sprite();
    dot.name = "dotEnd";
    dot.graphics.beginFill(0x00FF00);
    dot.graphics.drawCircle(0, 0, 5);
    dot.graphics.endFill();
    canvas.addChild(dot);
    canvas.addEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,
    enterFrameHandler);
    function enterFrameHandler(evt:Event):void {
    var dot:DisplayObject = canvas.getChildByName("dotEnd");
    dot.x = mouseX;
    dot.y = mouseY;
    canvas.graphics.clear();
    canvas.graphics.lineStyle(1, 0x0000FF);
    canvas.graphics.moveTo(startX, startY);
    canvas.graphics.lineTo(mouseX, mouseY);
    function mouseUpHandler(evt:MouseEvent):void {
    canvas.removeEventListener(Event.ENTER_FRAME,
    enterFrameHandler);
    canvas.removeChild(canvas.getChildByName("dotStart"));
    canvas.removeChild(canvas.getChildByName("dotEnd"));
    canvas.graphics.clear();
    canvas.graphics.lineStyle(2, 0x000000);
    canvas.graphics.moveTo(startX, startY);
    canvas.graphics.lineTo(mouseX, mouseY);
    There's a lot of repeated code there, and this isn't how I'd
    leave the
    above in an actual project, but by spilling out a rough cut
    like this, I'm
    hoping it gives you something to work with -- showing the
    mechanics of how
    this might be done.

  • Getting Flash CS3/CS4 AIR1.0 app to work in Flash CS5

    This is a question in regards to Flash CS5 but since it's specific to AIR I'm posting here.
    I have a Flash CS3 AIR 1.0 project and I can't get it to compile in Flash CS5. If I recall I installed some extension for Flash CS3 to be able to create AIR apps. It was an Adobe extension.
    The app involves two SWFs. The first is the main app, Main.fla, the second is a window panel template, Panel.fla. The Main app would compile and include the Panel.swf which it would instantiate and load into new windows to create a paneled app.
    I was able to open Main.fla and publish in CS5 with no problems. The profile even says AIR 1.0 in the properties panel, although when I click edit it shows AIR 2.0 selected in the dropdown, and there is no option for another version of AIR -- which version of AIR is actually being created? Not important as long as it work...
    The Panel.fla on the other hand I cannot get to compile. The profile still says AIR 1.0 in properties but the dropdown in the publish settings says Flash Player 9, and when I compile it breaks on any AIR references, for instance:
    1119: Access of possibly undefined property nativeWindow through a reference with static type flash.display:Stage.
    I have this classpath:
    $(AppConfig)/ActionScript 3.0 AIR 1.0/Classes
    But apparently that is no longer good. I've looked in all the Flash CS5 directories I could find and there is no such dir.
    The issue here is that Panel.fla is NOT an AIR app, it's a SWF which runs in an AIR app. How should get this working?

    I changed the profile of both to AIR2.0, and it still shows AIR1.0 in the properties panel. I'm able to publish the Panel.swf now but it also generates an unwanted panel-app.xml -- unwanted because panel is not an app, it's merely a SWF to run inside the main app.
    Is there a better way? And why does it still say AIR1.0 in the properties panel?

  • Developing Iphone App using Flash Builder and Flex Air Mobile

    I started developing an Iphone app using the trial version of Flash Builder and was pretty impressed with how easy it was, then i hit problems:
    Trying to submit my app, I was getting invalid binary, using google i tracked this down to a change in the Apple App Store meaning that all apps needed to have native iphone 5 support, which meant updating to Air SDK 3.7
    Updating to AIR SDK 3.7 was a nightmare (mainly as a result of my failure to read the small print)
    Once I got SDK 3.7 to  work with flash builder / flex mobile i though i was there.
    However now i can produce a fast build but everytime i try and produce a standard / production build i get strange errors (air 3.8 does the same).
    My Question is - before i actually buy Flash Builder has anybody actually achieved the following:
         Building an Iphone App using:
         Flash Builder 4.7    (running on OSX)
         Flex Mobile 4.6
         Air 3.7
    If so how ?
    cheers
    Toby

    Thanks for your reply, its nice to know its not just me.
    the error i got when submitting to the App store where due to native support for IPHONE 5 which is now mandatory (from May 1st), looking around the internet the common soloution seemed to be upgrading to Air 3.7.
    The strange erorrs on 3.7 revolve around compiling a standard / production build (fast build works fine)
    the error is always the same (snippet shown below):
    Error occurred while packaging the application:
    Undefined symbols for architecture armv7:
      "__ZN7avmplus8Debugger9debugLineEi", referenced from:
          __ZN7avmplus9MethodEnv9debugExitEPNS_13CallStackNodeE in AOTBuildOutput-4.o
          __ZN7avmplus11BaseExecMgr22debugEnterExitWrapperNEPNS_9MethodEnvEiPj in AOTBuildOutput-4.o
    I have completly failed to work out why, but my gut feeling is its something to do with how the mac is compiling the code in standard build and unable to find a library it needs.
    cheers

  • Transition from my firefox extension to a Flash Builder desktop app

    Trying to make a slow transistion from my firefox extension to a Flash Builder desktop app.
    Okay i'm not familiar on how to go about this I have js code that lets my app sync it self with the lates build it looks for a new version number which is in a txt file. Inside the txt file I have 0.0.0 so evertime I change the version number to 0.0.1. The app checks for new updates and sees the txt file has a new version number and start to pull in the zip file and extrudes the zip into the directory.
    I can't get my head around on how to modify this code ["@mozilla.org/extensions/manager;1"].getService
    to look in the root directory of my Flash Builder app.
    function Xcalibur_Sync(){
        document.documentElement.getButton("accept").disabled = true;
        var Cc = Components.classes;
        var Ci = Components.interfaces;
        var url = xcaliburGetUnicharPref("extensions.xcalibur.downloadurl");
        var Step1 = document.getElementById("xcalStep1");
        var Step1done = document.getElementById("xcalStep1Done");
        var Step2 = document.getElementById("xcalStep2");
        var Step2done = document.getElementById("xcalStep2Done");
        var Step3 = document.getElementById("xcalStep3");
        var Step3done = document.getElementById("xcalStep3Done");
        var Step4 = document.getElementById("xcalStep4");
        var Step4done = document.getElementById("xcalStep4Done");
        var xcalSyncDone = document.getElementById("xcalSyncDone");
        var progressMeter = document.getElementById("xcalProgressMeter");
        var progressPct = document.getElementById("xcalProgressPct");
      // Get Xcalibur version and location
        var GUID = "[email protected]"
        var gExtensionManager = Cc["@mozilla.org/extensions/manager;1"].getService(Ci.nsIExtensionManager);
      //var currentVersion = gExtensionManager.getItemForID(GUID).version;
        var currentVersion = xcaliburPrefs.getCharPref("extensions.xcalibur.installedversion");
        var xcaliburdir = gExtensionManager.getInstallLocation(GUID).getItemLocation(GUID);
        var file = Cc["@mozilla.org/file/local;1"].createInstance(Ci.nsILocalFile);
        file.initWithPath(xcaliburdir.path);
        //Step 1 - See if an update is available
        Step1.setAttribute("hidden", "false");
        var req = new XMLHttpRequest();
        req.open('GET', url+"CRV.txt", false);
        try{
            req.send(null);
        }catch(e){
            alert("Cannot get update information from "+url+"CRV.txt\n"+e.toString()+"\n\nSync aborted ...");
            window.close();
            return false;
        }//try
        if(req.status == 200){
            var CRV = req.responseText;
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Ish

    Have you taken a look at the documentation on updating AIR applications?
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AIR/1.5/devappsflex/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118666ade46-7ff2. html
    Or is it something else you wish to do? You can access the directory where your app is installed by looking at File.applicationDirectory and you can hit a URL by using URLRequest.

    Have you tried restarting or resetting your iPad?
    Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
    Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).
