"Building Imaging Applications with Java"
Hello!
Does anyone know the book "Building Imaging Applications with Java" from Larry Rodrigues well (really worked through the chapters)?
Have a question which is very difficult to explain when you don't know his code.
Regards
Carsten
1)Java is backward-compatable, so almost anything that used to work should still work
2)If you aren't already using it, take a look at swing:
http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/uiswing/index.html
hope this helps

Building Flex Application with Flex Builder installed in a remote server
Building Flex Application with Flex Builder installed in a remote server and different developers accessing it via VNC etc
I have a requirement as below..........this is mainly to look for a solution where we can see a environment.............where we can stop developer to install flex builder locally, download/check out code locally and work locally ..............Please have a look ........
1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code say 1st Remote Server
2. There is another 2nd Remote Server which support workspace for each user
3. Flex Builder installed in the 2nd Remote Server
4. Each Developer connects to the 2nd Remote Server via VNC etc log in to their workspace
5. Each developer check out code in their workspace by connecting to 1st Remote Server.
6. Start Flex Builder instance which is running in the 2nd Remote Server
5. Each developer open source code modifies, build application in their workspace and check
Do anyone have any idea whether this kind of environment is possible in Flex or can anyone suggest something which is almost close to this ? I heard Cloud Computing is something that world is looking to represent this kind of solution .............not sure thoughHi
The concept of cloud computing is not even very clear to me
I think this is what I understood about it ...........from this link http://communication.howstuffworks.com/cloud-computing.htm
It says
"Instead of installing a suite of software for each computer, you'd only have to load one application. That application would allow workers to log into a Web-based service which hosts all the programs the user would need for his or her job. Remote machines owned by another company would run everything from e-mail to word processing to complex data analysis programs. It's called cloud computing, and it could change the entire computer industry"
"There's a good chance you've already used some form of cloud computing. If you have an e-mail account with a Web-based e-mail service like Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail or Gmail, then you've had some experience with cloud computing. Instead of running an e-mail program on your computer, you log in to a Web e-mail account remotely"
My issue is not with the license. The solution that I am looking for is
1. Don't want the developer to download the source code in any fashion either checked out or anything else in the local machine
2. Want the developer to work directly on the server
3. Looking for a solution where each developer is not required to install Flex Builder locally and the developer can use Flex Builder that is installed on the server and in his workspace and create/modify build on the server itself
Hope I could make you understand this time ................

Making Windows Applications with Java
Hello, I have some experience with Java, I have programmed in it for two years and I was wondering how I would be able to create windows applications coding in Java. I know it is possible to do this with Visual Studio and C# but I wanted to know what I need to do it in Java. Please let me know of the packages I need to use with Eclipse and of the specifics. I basically just wanna learn and build basic applications, nothing too complicated. If you can indicate me to some tutorials that would be great. Thanks in advanced.
Well, I just wanted to learn to make windows applications, like lets say notepad, or winzip, simple applications. I guess just make executable files, .exe files. I dont know how else to explain it. I have had some experience with GUIs but I dont want to have a piece of code that runs only through eclipse or some other JDK.

In this video, Ryan Stewart demonstrates how easy it is to build Android applications using Flash Professional CS5.5.
http://adobe.ly/zEO3pRThis feature is really awesome, it's great how you can embed other files such as XML with the application you want to publish.

Building Android application with Flash Builder 4 and flex 4.1
Hi,
Currently I am building an application for Android using Flash Builder 4. Previously, when my coding utilized the spark component of TextInput, it works perfectly in the Android device, but recently I found that using the spark component of TextInput won't be able to access the virtual keyboard in Android, but the mx component of TextInput is working fine. Spark components are not compatible with Air for Android under flex 4.1? Please advice.Thank you.
RegardsThe spark TextInput is not optimized for mobile in Flex 4.0/4.1. See this thread for more information: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4600550/missing-on-screen-keyboard-for-flash-flex-web-a pplication-on-android/4735544#4735544

Help running an application with java
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent event)
if (event.getActionCommand().equals("Application"))
getContentPane().runApplication(Application);
}What would replace "runApplication(Application)"?
Thanks. What on earth are you trying to do with that code?
Do you just want to execute an external application via java, such as with the Runtime.exec() method?
try {
Runtime.getRuntime().exec(...);
} catch ( ... )Something similar to that? -
Creating a WCF MTOM application with Java Client
Well I am treading into new ground here. I need to create a WCF that will pull files from a database in an image column and either send them to a Java service that will accept binary data. We send an XML file to the Server which is running Java.
During the processing of the XML the message may indicate that there are files that need to be included (like attachments in email). So the Java Service (I suppose) would send a request to a .NET WCF service requesting the files. The service would
then retrieve the files from the SQL Server (in the image column) and send them to the calling Java application. I have been looking around the web some and run across MTOM and I suppose this is the best way to send this, but I have a couple of questions:
1. Do I need to grab the files from the database and stream them to a temp file first, then use MTOM to send the files?
2. Can I just send the files from the database to the Java client? The files are read into a byte array and then saved as a binary data type in SQL Server. (Code to create the file below).
3. I am coming into this new so examples would be nice, I mean real basic stuff so I can understand how to make this WCF the correct way. I have no control over the Java Client, I will let them deal with how to configure the data they get.
Any help is appreciated.
Code I use to store any file into SQL:
Dim fs As New FileStream(filePath, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)
Dim ilen As Integer = CInt(fs.Length)
Dim bFile(ilen - 1) As Byte
fs.Read(bFile, 0, ilen)
fs.Close()Hi,

Opening default application with java
hi
can i open the default application for the Operating system to open a specific file. for eg MSWORD is the default application to open *.doc files under windows platform. can i make java to open it. also if there is no default application can i open a dialog which shows applications installed and query the user to select one to open the file
thnx
jodswhat u can probably do is make your main class accept command line arguments that specify your target file names. When saving some file, say some text file from your editor, create a bat file and save it in place of the text file, which u save somewhere else.. in the bat file, make a call to your editor with the file path as the argument. then in ur code, read the file and set the text to the editor. I think this is the best thing for you to do. Also, this would mean that your code can be made to run by using sh files in Unix platform in place of.bat file.. This approach is viable, especially if the files that need to be opened are managed internally by your editor and will/need not be supported by other editors..

Can i build an application with Labview 2009 for Windows 7?
Hello
i use Labview 2009 SP1 and the application builder 2009 SP1. If i install the application on win7 this message is display:
Labview Run Time Engine depends on pruduct with upgrade code (...) version 9.0.301, language {} which is not in distribution.
Solved!
Go to Solution. Is this an issue with Windows 7 having both installation folders for 32 bit (C:\Program Files (x86)) and 64 bit (C:\Program Files)?
I had an application built on an XP machine and installed on a Windows 7 machine which was looking for files in C:\Program Files when they were actually installed in C:\Program Files (x86) - because it was 32-bit application. After installation I had to move the files from 1 location to the other to make it work. -
Building Flex application with Flex Builder in a Remote Server - Cloud Computing
Hey Guys
I have a query or its confusion probably
I was just thinking if this kind of solution is existing or possible with say cloud computing or anything else?
This is what we all probably do for building our flex application?
1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code
2. Developer check out the code in their system locally by some Configuration tool like Perforce, CVS etc
3. Developer Install Flex Builder IDE locally and open the IDE and then create.build locally and then on testing check in the code in repository
All this is fine but we have some problem here
a. We have to get all the source code checked out/downloaded in some local machine
b. We have to install Flex Builder in each every developer machine with license.
A possible modification in the above can be as follows
1. Don't download/check out the source code locally in each machine
2. Create a mapped network drive of the Remote Repository and then work directly with the mapped network drive
3. Install Flex Builder locally
4. Start Flex Builder create a Flex Project with source code in the mapped network drive
But this has some potential problem as now the building of the flex application directly work with the mapped network drive. This is very slow especially when we Keep the "Build Automatically" Check box to true
My question is that can we have a solution like this ?
1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code
2. There is another 2nd Remote Server which support workspace for each user
3. Flex Builder installed in the 2nd Remote Server
4. Each Developer connects to the 2nd Remote Server log in to their workspace
5. Each developer check out code by connecting to 1st Remote Server. This code which is checked out now goes in their workspace in the 2nd Remote Server
6. Start Flex Builder instance which is running in the 2nd Remote Server
5. Each developer open source code modifies, build application in their workspace and check
I think this is something that I heard cloud computing can do ? Do anyone have any idea whether this kind of environment is possible in Flex or can anyone suggest something which is almost close to this ?
Regards
BiswamitHi

Building dektop applications with WinRT ?
Greetings,
I have been reading about MS's strategy of write once, run everywhere using WinRT. However, so far I only see WinRT being used for building Windows Phone and Windows Store type applications. Are there any plans to extend this framework to enable building
desktop style applications also ? By that I mean features like resizable windows, dialog boxes, toolbars, etc., just like traditional desktop apps written in .NET and win32 that designed for the users to interact with a mouse and keyboard and not
touch based.Hi John,
We cannot discuss future plans.
That said, if you try out the Windows 10 Technical Preview you can run Windows Store apps in separate resizable windows similar to traditional desktop apps.
Windows Store apps already can (and should) be written to be usable with mouse and keyboard as well as with touch (and desktop apps should be written to be usable with touch).

It happens the same under Windows 7 and Linux -using openJRE and icedtea as substitution of Java Web Start-.
I'm behind a proxy. In my browser -Chrome, IE and FF- putted the info of the proxy and I can browse. Aldo tried to put the info in the Java "Network Settings". It did not work -the launching of the console-.
I installed the last Java Web Start in Windows 7 -Java7 Update5-. I disabled my anti-virus and firewall. Always the same result.
Could you help me please. I don't have idea of what is going on.
Greetings.
PD: I tested from other machines of the company and it works. So, I guess is my laptop. I exported the oracle certificates from those machine and imported them into mine.AndrewThompson64 wrote:

As an aside, what happens if (your MS IIS is running and) you click a direct link to..
When I click this link I get the error and exception I cited in my previous post.
