Building previews on Aperture load

Whenever I load Aperture it immediately builds 310 image previews. If I quit and load again it does the same thing. I'm not sure which images are the problem. I remember reading something about RAW converter versions being the issue. Or maybe the upgrade from 1.5 -> 2.0. I've Googled my heart out and can't find anything helpful. Anyone have any advise?

How to stop Aperture from building previews?

Hi,
How can I stop Aperture 2.1 from building previews each time I make a change to a photo?
I have unselected everything under preferences/previews and I have deleted all previews for this library, but still it's building them again.

I have the 1.5 book, and have the 2.0 book on order. Hopefully, it is being updated for 2.1, but no problem if it isn't.
I tried 1.5 (I think) but didn't like it and started using Lightroom, and have been with Lightroom since its beginning. I am now running Lightroom 1.3.1, Lightroom 2 BETA 1, and Aperture 2.1. As a matter of fact, I am importing all of my existing images into Aperture as I type this. Even with the advancements of Lightroom, I find navigating and working with Aperture to be a more efficient, enjoyable matter.
I can't wait to see what's next for Aperture, especially in response to some new features in Lightroom 2.

Having trouble with Bridge CS5.1 building previews

I'm using Adobe Bridge CS5.1 and it has stopped building previews that are correct, if I open the image in Camera Raw it looks accurate but the preview in Bridge is not even close?

Hi - something's happened to Keynote with its Build previews. When I build an animation (using a simple effect like Appear) with several items appearing in order, the preview just races by. I have to actually hit Play and walk thru my sequence to make sure it all works. Otherwise all the elements flash on the screen all at once.
The old Keynote had a nice paced preview that showed you very clearly, WITHOUT having to press a preview button, how the changes would affect the build.
We need that functionality back.

Preview won't load

I'm running Mavericks, version 10.10.2. Preview won't load at all. I am able to get it to load when in test mode but not in my own user mode. What's up?

10.10.2 is Yosemite.
Do a backup.
Quit Preview.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Remove the following. You may not find them all. Restart and test.
Containers/com.apple.Preview
Containers/com.apple.quicklook.ui.helper
Preferences/com.apple.Preview.LSSharedFileList.plist
Preferences/com.apple.Preview.SandboxedPersistentURLs.LSSharedFileList.plist
Saved Application State/com.apple.Preview.savedState

PS CS4 Error: Could not build preview because of a disk error

I have been using this version of Photoshop without any problems for about two years, and then I upgraded to OS X Lion last week and now I get a disk error when I try to save a file. The message says "Photoshop could not build preview because of a disk error". I tried to save the file to a thumb drive, but I get the same problem. I believe I also got a scratch disk error one of the times as well. Anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? I have already downloaded the latest update. I have tried restarting my computer. It works ok for a few times after restart but then the error returns.

I guess it could be a coincidence, but since this started happening right after I installed OS X 10.7 I have to think it has something to do with that. I'll try using the repair disk utility... Don't have a 10.7 disk since i installed from the app store, so not really sure what steps to take.

Previews from Aperture in "All my files"

I reinstalled system (10.7.2) and now previews from Aperture library can be seen in "All my files".
Does anybody know how to fix it?

Because iPhoto (and I imagine Lightroom) makes copies of the photos you edit so you can always revert back to the original. All My Files searches for all files, regardless if the are duplicates.

Crashes when building previews

LR keeps crashing when I try to rebuild previews. I had an issue before where I didn't see any thumbnails in the "all photographs" view, and to fix that I created a new catalog. I was able to rebuild previews for several external discs, but one disc kept crashing LR. So I installed that disc internally in my Mac Pro. Still kept crashing on build previews. Then I transferred all the files to a brand new hard drive, still inside my Mac. Whenver I rebuild the previews, the scan completes, and then I get the spinning beach ball, and then crash.
I do have a bunch of crash reports if that helps.
I'm running LR 2.7 on a Mac Pro with OSX 10.6.3. 5GB memory. I've repaired disk permissions on startup disk, and ran DiskWarrior on startup disk as well as the discs that house my photos. I've also run Techtool. In the past I've had issues with LR crashing when building Web galleries.
I would really appreciate suggestions--I've been wresting with this for days and it's very frustrating. Thanks!

More trouble: there's a catalog I can't import. I keep getting an "unkown error." And when I start the import, I'm getting strange previews with backwards text (I'm pretty sure it's instructing me to take hallucinogenic drugs) see below.

What is the best setting for previews in aperture for creating DVDs ?

I would like to send clients DVDs of the photo shoots by dragging over the preview jpegs into iDVD. Not having a clue about the quality I should set for the previews [ in aperture preferences] could any one give some idea what preview size `I should be using for fairly decent quality. I should state I do not own a Television set and never will, so cannot test for myself. Seeing as widescreen is the most poular type of goggle box I intend to set IDVD to the widescreen dimensions.
Also does the size and quality of previews affect the overall responsivness of Aperture?

Congratulations on your avoidance of TV - I wish I could.
The most expensive High definition sets around at the moment have a resolution that can display 1080 horizontal lines, so anything greater than this would seem to be a waste.
Depending on who you believe the definition of "High Definition" as it refers to TV begins at 720 horizontal lines and extends up to 1080 lines. This is considerably less than what any half decent computer monitor can display.
If you set your previews to the one with an asterisk you will be perfectly matched to display fullscreen on your computer monitor, and as I said above this should be better than most TVs. If you set a step or two lower thaen you probably won't have any problems on most TVs.

Frozen "Building Previews

I always have previews building. When I go into the active monitor, I have an activity :" Updating Library" it is " Building Previews" and no matter how long I give it, it is 376 remaining. Been going on for who knows how long. A lot of times I will cancel it, but I can not pause the task. Any idea as to how to get it to finish, or what. I have a larger library, 47gb at last count.

same for me. since i import 15 new pictures, my mac build previews for hours. i did not update anything before. also some pictures that i imported before are now grey.

Numeric Progress Meter for "Building Previews"

Before the recent update for Lightroom, I would always see the numeric progress for when it was building standard previews (i.e., Building preview 385 of 400) underneath the upper left icon with the progress bar. However, since the new version from last month, it does not show that anymore. Is there a way to put it back in?

I found it. Clicking on the progress bar itself will show a list of current operations, including a visual progress bar as well as numerical statistic.

I have a themeforest template which is great in html which I like to adjust, but I need a drag & drop website builder that automatically changes the codes and scripts as I can't program....
I tested some like Bluevoda & wysiwyg webbuilders, but there you can only load their files (.bvd ,...) extensions, not a full site or index.html

Muse is drag & drop but I'm not sure how well it would work with Themeforest templates. Muse could very well make a mess of it.

Will Aperture load photos more quickly?

Now there are about 6000 pics in my iPhoto library and it takes quite a while to load every time I start iPhoto. Will Aperture load large numbers of photos more quickly than iPhoto?

Aperture and iPhoto work in fundamentally different ways, with some tasks being faster in one app and other tasks being faster in the other. Which of these tasks you use more will give totally different feels of the 'speed' of the program.
Also, different people have totally different expectations of speed for a program - you can sit two photographers down in front of Aperture on the same machine with the same images, and one will complain about it being dog slow while the other starts talking about how fast it is.
