Built-In Audio Devices disappeared

Greetings everyone,
I got a big audio problem.
The Built-In Audio Out and Inputs of my iMac (2011) disappeared in system preferences and i noticed the coreaudio process has high CPU usage all the time. Even force quitting isnt helping, as it restarts immediatly.
Furthermore my computer is hanging on shutdown:
If it's entering sleep mode, the display goes black but fans and HDD are still spinning, but I cannot do anything else and I have to do a hard reset. The same happens when i'm restarting or shutting down. It just won't shut off completely (I guess because of that hanging process)
I booted another OS X installation and everything worked fine, so there's clearly an error somewhere in my current OS X installation. But restoring from a Time Machine backup didnt help.
Are there any files/caches I have to move to trash or anything else to fix this problem without having to reinstall OS X once again?
Thanks.

  • Built-in audio keeps disappearing - iBook G4 1.42 - what gives?

Last month I took my iBook G4 1.42 on the road and kept on getting problems with my built-in audio. I attributed this to movement, but I wasn't 100% sure. I took care of it every time by powering down, removing the battery, holding power for 10 seconds, replacing the battery, and rebooting. I don't normally need audio, but there were a few games that would stall and then exit if there was no audio output device seen in the configuration.
It's been at home for a few weeks (my wife is the primary user) and it behaved pretty well until the built-in audio wasn't seen in the configuration again. I tried the old power-down trick without the battery again, but audio wouldn't come up. The whirling icon showed up when I tried to access most of the stuff on the top bar, but eventually settled down with no audio volume icon. I then tried holding down command-option-P-R while booting to reset the PRAM. Then it booted with the Mac chine and the built-in audio was fine.
Any idea what's going on. Yesterday was the first time built-in audio disappeared when I wasn't on the road, and the first time pulling the battery and pressing power didn't solve the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I came across the suggestion when I looked for how to reset the PRAM, but I didn't think I needed it at the time. I'll try it if the audio goes out again.

  • Built in audio out disappeared

The built-in audio out option has disappeared from the Sound Preferences window and Digital Out is the only option.  So I'm not getting any system sounds, etc.  The volumn icon is greyed out, etc.
I've been using Logic and had the audio out set alternatingly for built-in and Presonus Firebox.  When the FB is plugged in it shows up in all the right places.
The built-in mic still shows up, but the built-in output has vanished.
    Any ideas?
    TIA,
    Daniel

Since discovering that the problem I was having was with that switch, I've just been careful to plug in the headphones with some firmness and then unplug it with a good quick tug and the switch has been ... switching.. reliably ever since.  I'm not sure what one could do to "fix" that, and fortunately I don't seem to need to try that right now, but if you do need to get into that I'd be interested in any tips..
    Best,

  • No Built-In Audio Device Found

My Powerbook G4 does not play any audio from any source through the internal system. In the System Preferences/Sound window, the input and output windows both say "No Audio Device Found"
I've deleted preference file "com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist" and reset PRAM with no success

I am assuming that you did not get the set of original CD's that came with the iBook? You can take the serial number and call Apple, and you should be able to buy a replacement set for a fee. Then you can do an erase and install and set all new passwords. A clean install of the OS might even fix the problems you are having. And with a replacement set of the original discs, you can also reinstall all of the other software that originally came bundled on the iBook.
I don't know what the fee is for replacement discs is, but I understand it is nominal. But you do need these discs for troubleshooting so a replacement set would be the way to go.
    Good luck!

  • Pavilion dv6000 Audio Device disappeared

Earlier today I was listening to music and everything was fine, but then all of a sudden my audio stopped playing.  I thought it was just muted so I clicked on my sound in the taskbar and it is telling me "No Audio Output Device is installed."  I have tried everything to my knowledge that I know would fix it but to no prevail.  Ive have searched the forum and on google for any explanation and possible fix but I have found nothing.  So, if anyone could help me with this problem it would be greatly apprieciated.

I too am having this problem.  I own a HP Pavilion dv6809wm and after installing windows 7 my audio device is no longer detected as well as my DVD drive.  I have tried re-installing the drivers, locating, downloading, and installing the correct drivers for my sound device; which has caused the speakers to work until the user logged off or the computer was shut down, but this work around no longer works at all.  I have not been able to find a work around for the disk drive.  Since the warranty has expired HP is unwilling to provide assistance, so I am now working with Microsoft to try and fix these problems, they are helpful in assisting in helping me at this point, but have been told repeatedly that if it turns out to be something besides a faulty installation disk of windows 7 they will not be able to assist any further.  Any help at all would be great!
    Thanks in advance.

  • Built-in audio cannot be found?

    Hi All,
I just bought a MacBook Pro and installed FCE, which I had stopped using for a while because my old iMac G5 was so slow. When I start FCP it gives me an error message that the built-in audio device cannot be found. I opened an old project and it seems the sound plays OK, but still that message is annoying and a bit worrying... any idea?
    Thanks
    Florence
Edited to changed FCP to FCE, sorry for the confusion.

You should ask your question on the Final Cut pro forum.

  • HP DV6-3010ax HDMI device disappears

    Hi,
I have a dv6-3010ax and when I first log in, I can see the HDMI device in playback devices, but when I plug in the HDMI cable between the PC and my panasonic TV, the screen flashes off and on again (so it now mirrors to the TV), but the HDMI audio device disappears - so I don't get any HDMI audio.
I've updated to latest HP bios and ATI drivers, but it keeps disappearing every time I connect the cable.  It never reappears, until I log off and on again.
    Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Fixed it - if I plug in the HDMI cable, then log off windows and log back on, it works.  Alternatively, if the laptop is shut down and I plug in the HDMI cable and boot up, it is fine.
But if I unplug it or let the computer go to sleep, it stops working again (i.e. disappears from the audio device list).

  • Mac Pro (2010) too many audio devices after adding 2 x 27" LED Cinema disp

Can anyone tell me how to re-prioritize the list of audio devices shown in system preferences or Audio MIDI support?
REALLY, what I'd prefer is a way to completely disable audio devices that I absolutely do not need.
I am having some 3rd-party software issues with some software that cannot cope with the long list of audio devices, but I would expect that if I could remove unnecessary devices or at least change the order in which they are presented to software, I might be able to workaround the issues with the third party apps.
Everything was fine before I installed two new 27" LED Cinema Displays, which together bring four new audio OUT devices and two new audio IN devices.
I would like to disable all four audio OUT devices...in fact I would like to be able to disable several of the Mac Pro built-in audio devices that I will never use.
Here's the list of audio devices that I now have:
    Internal Speakers
    Line Out
    Digital Out
    LED Cinema
    LED Cinema
    Display Audio
    Display Audio
    GN 9350
A key 3rd-party app (with whom I am also filing a bug) only shows these choices in the "Audio output" pull-down:
    Built-in Digital Output Digital Out
    Built-in Line Output Line Out
    Built-in Output Internal Speakers
    Display Audio
    Display Audio #2
    Display Port LED Cinema
    GN 9350
So when I try to choose GN 9350, what I get instead is "Display Port LED Cinema" -- I think the problem is that really the list should be:
    Built-in Digital Output Digital Out
    Built-in Line Output Line Out
    Built-in Output Internal Speakers
    Display Audio
    Display Audio #2
    Display Port LED Cinema
    Display Port LED Cinema #2
    GN 9350
If the above list was actually being shown properly, then I would HOPE that I could actually choose GN 9350 and have it stick.
But until I can get the 3rd party app fixed, I would like to know how to get the Mac Pro to either change the order of the devices as presented/listed, or to (preferably) let me completely DISABLE unneeded devices.

Thanks... But I do still want to be able to use the built-in iSight and the USB hubs.

  • HP Pavilion dv6618ca (dv6500) - NO AUDIO (Audio Device either disappears or no sound)

    Hi There,
I hope someone can help me. I have been struggling with NO AUDIO problem for last 4 weeks. Intially I had a big red cross in front of voice control button. I had to reformat and installed original softwares using recovery.
Now audio is available when system first boots but disappears within 5 minutes. Sometimes it does randomly come back and other times the whole device disappears and red cross appears again infront of volume control.
I have installed Audio drivers from HP site. I have also used microsoft FIX IT. Which does fix it but as soon as you restart the voice goes within 5 minutes. I have also used HP healthceck and Norton system dyognostic to check for any issues.
PC is clean as it is fully formated and only HP original OS softwares are installed + Windows updates.
I suspect that windows update may be responsible for the loss of sound but don't know which update and how to resolve.
    Please help
    Many Thanks in advance

  • In-built Audio device not found

    Hi Guys,
My macbook pro suddenly finds no audio device inbuilt. And i can play no sound nor hear start up sound when switching on mac.
I get a 'no parking' like symbol beneath my audio options.
I've tried rebooting in safe mode, Resetting PRAM, Repairing permissions in disk utilities, use my ipod touch headsets, headphones.. NOthing worked.
And i'm feeling deaf whenever using Mac now.
Is there anyway to get the audio back ?
    Thanks,
    Raesh

Hmm.. Okay. Would give it a last try.
And I have a couple question before doing that..
    1. I did the hardware test and It gave me this error .. " 4SNS/1/C0000008 :TPCD--24 "
But When i looked up for this error, it tells me a sensor problem. Not as Audio device problem. Do you think this hardware error of 'sensor' has something to do with audio ?
    2. So in-built speaker isn't working, plugging in headphones cable isn't working. But i was wondering whether a bluetooth speaker would be recoganised in the system preferences > audio output device ? Will it work ?
Because i keep on reading that an " in-built audio device not found " problem is a huge one and it costs a lot to repair. They often provide solution of changing the whole logic board (Keeping fingers crossed). And with my warranty period over, I don't wish to go through that path.  So want to know if external bluetooth speaker has a chance to get recoganised as an audio device, Then I would buy JBL bluetooth speakers. It seems good and less pricey than changing the whole logic board.
Let me know which way i can go, Thanks in Advance Man.

  • Built-In Audio disappears from Audio/MIDI

I'm trying to edit a project in Logic (7), get a warning message that my previously used audio device cannot be found, Logic continues to load and finishes at the arrange window as normal. When I go into Audio Prefs in Logic, there are NO sound cards listed to choose from.
Now as to why I'm posting here and not the Logic board: Back into Audio MIDI Setup window, Default Input is grayed out and says "None". Same with "Properties For:" drop-down. The space under Audio Input and Audio Output at the bottom of the window says "Input is not supported" and "Output is not supported".
So then into System Profiler, it DOES list the Audio (Built-In) with a Texas Instruments TAS3004.
I've tried a few reboots and, past that, I really don't even know where to begin. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Here is the link to the S10 support site with all applicable drivers.
You should be able to download theRealtek audio driver from that page.

  • Fix for Missing Audio Device in WinXP S

My sound card disappeared from the Sounds and Audio Devices Properties panel. I tried cleansweeping and reinstalling to no effect. I could watch my card disappear from the panel as Windows went through startup after I reinstalled it. My card , a Sound Blaster Li've!, was listed under the hardware tab but the drivers were listed as "Driver installed but not started". Creative Diagnostics said I passed the hardware detection test but failed the driver tests. I am using the drivers from the Li'veDrvUni-Pack(ENG) version .0.0..
I found this fix after searching with Google. The site is www.annoyances.org/exec/forum/winxpt/t06642744. It resolved my problem. I did use DH Driver Cleaner Pro to remove any Creative drivers. You need to know that the hardware scan and reinstall in step 6 can take several minutes. I also removed hidden copies of my Creative devices in step 5. The revealed hidden devices have greyed icons next to them.
    Sincerely,

removing the SB card and enabling the built in VIA AC 97 without success.
Then I tried removing and adding back the Plug and Play Software Device Enumerator

Then I went further reinstalling some of the kernel sound drivers and that resolved

    ps.
First I suggest everyone to create a System Restore point to have something to return
in case of something goes wrong. You can boot XP to safe mode by pressing F8 at the
beginning of the Windows startup and select Safe Mode if the system doesn?t start
in normal mode and use System Restore there to go back to the working configuration.
Then try these steps only if the others mentioned here don?t help. I had everything
ok in Device Manager and every driver was running that should, compared to an other
working system, but the symptom was that there was no sound coming out from the sound
card. Everything was OK in the Device Manager, but in the Sounds and Audio Devices
Control Panel there was only the Voice recording option on the Voice tab, and the
MIDI music playback (without the sound card being in the list) on the Audio tab acti've.
The others like Voice playback, Sound playback, Sound recording and everything on
the Volume tab was grayed out.
    . Create the restore point.
    2. On the System Properties panel, Advanced tab, Environment Variables button, under
the User variables click New and create a variable named devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices
    with the value of .
    3. Open the Device Manager and select Show hidden devices from the View menu.
    4. Under the Sound, video and game controllers group, find your sound card(s) and
disable it/them (don?t need to uninstall).
    5. Then uninstall the following devices:
    - Microsoft Kernel Audio Splitter
    - Microsoft Kernel System Audio Device
    - Microsoft Kernel Wave Audio Mixer
    - Microsoft WINMM WDM Audio Compatibility Driver
    6. Select Scan for hardware changes from the Action menu. Now the system should redetect
and reinstall the deleted devices automatically. You may get non signed driver warnings,
    click continue.
    7. Enable the devices you disabled in step 4. You may need to restart the computer.
The problem should be disappeared, you should be able to play sounds.
    Good luck!

    Hi
You should check if the microphone has not been disabled.
Go to control panel -> sound -> recording tab
There you should make a right click and should enable the both options called show hidden devices and show disabled devices.
Now you should see 2 microphone entries; one internal mic and second should belong to the external mic jack.
If you want to use the internal mic then mark it as default device.

  • Built in Audio missing after downloading latest Security Update

    Hi everyone,
    My Built-in audio is missing!
Under System Profiler, it says "No built-in audio" under the Audio (built in). In System Preferences, (under Sound) no devices are available to select. When I click "Show volume in menu bar" the speaker icon appears, but as soon as I click on it, it disappears.
I've been trying different solutions I've found in the various audio posts, but nothing seems to work.
I tried CTRL OPT P R, but that didn't work. I looked in my Library -> Preferences and I don't have any sort of com.apple.audio file.
I've been putting off downloading the latest Quicktime update, because everything was working fine. I downloaded the Security Update, thought it would be "safe", restarted, and my audio disappeared. I figured what can be worse, so I updated Quicktime as well along with all the Final Cut Studio 2 updates.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Erik

Thanks for your troubleshooting tips- I tried to re-install and create an archive so I wouldn't have to wipe the main drive, but there was an error creating an archive and the computer wouldn't do it. I've had the computer since October 2003 and have never had to re-install, so I decided to backup important stuff and just do a clean install.
After installing everything, I have lots of extra space on my drive and the system runs nice and quick once again.
... and audio is back too.
