Built-In Audio disappears from Audio/MIDI

I'm trying to edit a project in Logic (7), get a warning message that my previously used audio device cannot be found, Logic continues to load and finishes at the arrange window as normal. When I go into Audio Prefs in Logic, there are NO sound cards listed to choose from.
Now as to why I'm posting here and not the Logic board: Back into Audio MIDI Setup window, Default Input is grayed out and says "None". Same with "Properties For:" drop-down. The space under Audio Input and Audio Output at the bottom of the window says "Input is not supported" and "Output is not supported".
So then into System Profiler, it DOES list the Audio (Built-In) with a Texas Instruments TAS3004.
I've tried a few reboots and, past that, I really don't even know where to begin. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Hi Cam
Did you try to reset [PRAM|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379?viewlocale=en_US] and [PMU|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1431?viewlocale=en_US]?
Hope that helps P

  • Macbook Air Mid 2013 No Built-In Audio

    Hey everyone,
I have an issue with my friends Macbook Air (Mid 2013 Model). After listening to some music through his speakers, he unplugged his Aux cable and then plugged them back in to find that he didnt have built in output or input anymore. I have tried all of the following to fix it:
    Reinstall OS X 10.8
Run all of the Automation tools found in the application Onyx
Reinstall certain .kext files (AppleHDA and AudioAUUC)
    Repair permissions
Re-seat the speakers in the device itself
    Reset coreaudio
    Resetting SMC, PRAM, and NVRAM
    Clear and re-build kernal cache
    Cleaned the headphone jack
    Plugged in an audio interface
    Reloaded from Time Machine Backup
    etc...
I've literally tried almost everything in the book. The only other thing i can think of is installing a copy of Mavericks when it comes out (In October i believe). There is no boot up chime, and after running the OS in verbose mode, i can see that AudioAUUC.kext is not being loaded. Built in audio does not appear is system profiler. What can i do to fix this problem? Could it really be a hardware issue? If so, what can i do to fix it?

    Test after each step.
    1. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
Option click the speaker icon, if present and select Internal Speakers.
    2.  Plug in the head phone and reset SMC.

  • Does the built-in DAC on my 2007 mid yr iMac support 96/24 audio as it supplies signal to the headphone jack? (is there a reason to export audio via optical jack then to an external DAC?

does the built-in DAC on my 2007 mid yr iMac support 96/24 audio as it supplies signal to the headphone jack?  If so, is there a reason to export audio via optical jack then to an external DAC then to stereo?

My suggestion to work around this problem would be to hook up an Airport Express. The AE also has an optical out the same as your iMac. As long as your wireless connection is robust enough you should be able to stream from your iMac to your AE and then have the optical cable connect between your AE and your DAC, which then connects to your Integrated Amp/Receiver/Pre-Amp (depending on your system configuration).
I assume because you are using the optical out and connecting to an external DAC that you are looking for a high level of Audio quality ?

  • Built-In Audio Devices disappeared

    Greetings everyone,
I got a big audio problem.
The Built-In Audio Out and Inputs of my iMac (2011) disappeared in system preferences and i noticed the coreaudio process has high CPU usage all the time. Even force quitting isnt helping, as it restarts immediatly.
Furthermore my computer is hanging on shutdown:
If it's entering sleep mode, the display goes black but fans and HDD are still spinning, but I cannot do anything else and I have to do a hard reset. The same happens when i'm restarting or shutting down. It just won't shut off completely (I guess because of that hanging process)
I booted another OS X installation and everything worked fine, so there's clearly an error somewhere in my current OS X installation. But restoring from a Time Machine backup didnt help.
Are there any files/caches I have to move to trash or anything else to fix this problem without having to reinstall OS X once again?
    Thanks.

  • USB codec for preamp disappeared Audio/MIDI

No option for the USB codec. It disappeared. Lately, after functioning normally, and kept launched, several hours later Garageband sometimes then does not receive audio input and at those times I discover that the USB Codec in Audio/MIDI has disappeared. At that time, a Restart fixed it.
Now the USB Codec option's gone again and restarting and permissions repair is not fixing it.
Garageband>Preferences>Audio/MIDI there's no option for the USB codec which used to be there!
USB Codec - how do I get it back?
For the ART Tube MP Project Series USB version
Needs no special driver from ART.

I unplugged the power cable from the back of the ART preamp, waited a few seconds, and plugged it in again. Launched GB and the codec had returned. However, I think this is a temporary fix. I think the disappearing codec situation has not been fixed. Time will tell...

  • Built in audio out disappeared

The built-in audio out option has disappeared from the Sound Preferences window and Digital Out is the only option.  So I'm not getting any system sounds, etc.  The volumn icon is greyed out, etc.
I've been using Logic and had the audio out set alternatingly for built-in and Presonus Firebox.  When the FB is plugged in it shows up in all the right places.
The built-in mic still shows up, but the built-in output has vanished.
    Any ideas?
    TIA,
    Daniel

Since discovering that the problem I was having was with that switch, I've just been careful to plug in the headphones with some firmness and then unplug it with a good quick tug and the switch has been ... switching.. reliably ever since.  I'm not sure what one could do to "fix" that, and fortunately I don't seem to need to try that right now, but if you do need to get into that I'd be interested in any tips..
    Best,
    Daniel

  • How do I get my Built-in Mic to work in Audio MIDI setup, grayed out 1

My iMac is over a month old, and the first week I had it I tried to talk on Skype with a friend. My mic wouldn't work, and after making an Apple Care appointment with a local Mac store last weekend, we found out that the iMac DOES hear me, Dictation works with my voice, but for some reason Skype won't pick me up. Another program I sometimes use is Livestream Procaster, and neither pick up audio from me, oddly though they do pick up finger tapping on the desk, which is no further away from the computer than I myself am.
I Googled this issue with Skype and I found this page:
    http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/Apple-IMAC-Internal-Microphone/td-p/305172
It shows a screen capture using Audio MIDI Setup, and I opened mine to make sure everything was in order, but my CH: 1 & 2 are both grayed out, so I can't adjust them at all.
I have a screen capture of my window as well:
And I did check to make sure that my Interal Mic is selected in Skype, Livestream Procaster, and even my iMac's System Preferences. I wonder if it has something to do with this Audio MIDI Setup. I don't actually know, but from searching for solutions, this is the only thing that doesn't seem to match up with suggestions I've found online.
    Thanks guys for any help.

I'm talking with a friend, and he says I'm muffled, and he can't understand me but can hear that I'm talking. When I turn on dictation to record what I'm saying he says I come through crystal clear.
The problem is I don't know if this is a Mac issue or a Skype issue. I was going to go to Skype, but when I found that page that I linked to above, that's what lead me to believe it's a Mac issue again because I can't get my Audio MIDI Setup to match the suggestion made by the user in that link.

  • When I record an audio track, there is a waveform. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing?

When I record an audio track using Logic Pro X, there is a visible waveform which appears as I record. When I stop recording, the waveform disappears and becomes a straight line. It also disappears from the track edit window. But the sound is still there. How can I stop the waveform from disappearing? And can I do something to view it after it has disappeared? Anyone know the anser?

    In Logic:
    Preferences/Audio Set Recording Delay to 0 <zero>
This should always be set to zero unless a specific set of circumstances exist and you're audio drivers do not report position correctly.
On occasion, usually when importing a Logic 9 project, Logic-X randomly changes this to a negative/positive number.  It's actually a bug in Logic, as it should always display the waveform.

  • My audio has disappeared from my iMovie

I recently created an iMovie on my MacBook Pro. I uploaded it to the Theater and shared it with my friends via email. But when I tried to watch the video, the audio disappeared, except in the beginning when it said "______ Studios". But after that the whole iMovie was muted. HELP!

Is this a conflict with the new iMovie
I don't know. iMovie 6.0.4 does not change iMovie 6.0.3 except to 'make it work better with Leopard'.
I don't have Leopard, but my previous iMovie 6.0.3 projects open fine in iMovie 6.0.4.
As for iMovie HD 5, that apparently does sit happily with Leopard. I am not sure if iMovie 5 projects transferred to iMovie 6, but that could be one cause of your problem.
Second suspect: check in the Audio Midi Setup application (it is in your Utilities folder in your Applications folder) that audio input and output is set to 41000 Hz and 2ch-16bit.

  • Built in microphone not an option for Audio MIDI Setup

Hi! I am using a Macbook Pro, updated up to 10.7.5 I can't update any higher due to lack of sufficient memory. Anyway, I've been trying to use Soundflower to begin recording Minecraft videos, and upon setting it up I noticed my Audio MIDI Setup does not have the Built in Microphone option. Without it, I cannot use Soundflower. I watched videos back when 10.7.5 was the newest update and they have this option in their Audio MIDI Setup. Why don't I? Can someone help me figure this out?

Hi krk102588 - welcome to the forum!
I've just come across your post, and cannot believe that no-one replied to your issue before now!
    So if you're still around......
You just click on the iMovie tool with the microphone icon on it. That opens a floating window showing audio levels etc. Click on a clip where you want the voice-over to occur, and after the 'getting ready' beeps, start talking! Simple. No need to fiddle with System Prefs/Sound, unless the Internal Microphone is not selected.

  • Built-in audio keeps disappearing - iBook G4 1.42 - what gives?

Last month I took my iBook G4 1.42 on the road and kept on getting problems with my built-in audio. I attributed this to movement, but I wasn't 100% sure. I took care of it every time by powering down, removing the battery, holding power for 10 seconds, replacing the battery, and rebooting. I don't normally need audio, but there were a few games that would stall and then exit if there was no audio output device seen in the configuration.
It's been at home for a few weeks (my wife is the primary user) and it behaved pretty well until the built-in audio wasn't seen in the configuration again. I tried the old power-down trick without the battery again, but audio wouldn't come up. The whirling icon showed up when I tried to access most of the stuff on the top bar, but eventually settled down with no audio volume icon. I then tried holding down command-option-P-R while booting to reset the PRAM. Then it booted with the Mac chine and the built-in audio was fine.
Any idea what's going on. Yesterday was the first time built-in audio disappeared when I wasn't on the road, and the first time pulling the battery and pressing power didn't solve the problem.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I came across the suggestion when I looked for how to reset the PRAM, but I didn't think I needed it at the time. I'll try it if the audio goes out again.

  • No audio output from built in audio

I do a lot of music production/recording on my mac, and to do so I use a firewire audio interface as my audio input and output while recording. When the device is not plugged in my mac usually automatically switches to the built in speakers or headphone jack for audio output. Tonight when I was done recording, I unplugged the interface, opened up iTunes, and went to turn the volume up, but what I got was the little pop op graphic of the speaker, with a little crosse out circle (like a no smoking sign). Now under my system preferences, built in audio is no longer listed as an option for output. After rebooting the machine the problem persists. Any thoughts?

You might try resetting the PRAM:

If this does not work then I would run "Repair Permissions" from Disk Utilities.

  • Issue with Random Blocks of Audio disappearing from Timeline

I am having a problem with seemingly random blocks of audio tracks disappearing from my edit.  I will be scrolling through somewhere I haven't worked on or even looked at, in a few hours or days, and I'll be missing chunks of audio.   At first I thought I was just losing my mind, but I can see that transitions that I've tacked on at the ends to fade in/out are still there in their "storylines", just floating by themselves.  Its almost like they were just straight up deleted by hand.  But I know that I didn't do any such thing.   So, what is going on?  This isn't the first time its happened, and its impossible to know when it does, so I could end up losing hours of work reverting to a backup.  But it is equally frustrating (slowly) flicking back and forth between two projects to copy the audio tracks back every few days. It also mostly seems to happen on audio with transitions/crossfades, but I have found a few places where it has just been reduced to 1 frame.  Weird.
I am working on a fairly complex film about 45 minutes in length, with compound clips of synced interviews cut up in the "Main" storyline, then with action shots and info stacked on top, and some 1-3 minute music tracks and video-less narrations below.     Working on a 5 month old MBP, 10.9.5, 16gb ram, everything's up to date
I just need this to stop happening is the main thing.  What can I do about it?  It is very frustrating that these bugs are still popping up all the time.  Not a thing that should be expected from a "pro" application.
    Thanks for any insight.
Screen Shot below is example: you can see where 4blocks have been deleted, just leaving the crossfades hanging.  Extremely annoying, and time wasting.

This is a user forum. I have not seen the issue you describe before.
You could use the Provide Feedback command in the application to give feedback to Apple.

  • Soft route audio from line in thru to headphones /  Audio Midi Setup

    howdy,
I am trying route audio from the line-in jack to the headphone jack. It seems that this should be possible using audio midi setup but the "thru" buttons don't respond to mouse clicks. Any ideas? The shareware program "Line-in" works but I only get audio on the left channel.
    thnaks, Dan

to answer my own question, the through routing is possible using GarageBand. I'd still be interested to seeif anyone knows how AMS is supposed to work.
