Built in firewire doesn't connect

One of my built-in firewire port doesn't work for some reason. I notice on apple's web site there is a lacie 6pin firewire 800 pci card (3ports), is this what I need for my mac?

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work!
First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 30 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that did'nt work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try. Yours is the 10.4.7 Combo update. Others reading, download the Combo that applies to your system.
If that still did'nt get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release. (you already reset the PMU which should zap the PRAM; worth a try again anyway)
For those of you with Macs that are not PowerBooks or iBooks, a bad internal battery can cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good!
Good Luck!
Cheers!

  • Firewire doesn't connect

I could never get the USB connection to work. Bought a Firewire cable and everything worked well. Now, it doesn't anymore: when I connect the Firewire cable, the top right charging symbol appears, but it's not animated and doesn't flash. I suppose, that means it doesn't charge. iTunes doesn't recognise my iPod anymore, although it used to work fine! I may have updated iTunes in the meantime. I've done absolutely nothing with the FireWire port or the cable! Can anyone help? Thanks!

    Ah, it worked once.
Hmmm. Now when it doesn't connect to the fireconnect card, I try the same method. The apple logo appears and just hangs. I couldn't get it to continue out of the apple logo.
    Here's what I did:
    Plugged into firewire.
    Wouldn’t connect
Reset..logo came on but would not continue.
Reset. ..logo came on but would not continue.
    Unplugged from fireconnect card.
Reset…logo came on and then continued just fine.
    Plugged back into firewire again.
    Did not connect.
Reset. ..logo came on but would not continue.
    SR_Watchdog working 1-4 %.
    DMADMIN.exe working some
Disconnected at firewire. Put into different slot ..logo on but would not continue.
    Reset.
    Disconnected.
Put into USB port. Started. Auto assigned Drive P:
    Updated just fine.
Tried manually putting it into disk mode iaw http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93651 then connecting. Nope

  • Built-in FireWire: "Not Connected"

Two FireWire drives are connected --- and appear to be functioning quite properly.
Yet, System Preferences/Network shows a red bullet before "Built-in FireWire," and in gray print: "Not Connected."
    Any idea why?

In System Preferences/Network, it's referring to IP networking. When you're using the Firewire to connect a drive (or a camera, or audio interface, or...), the Firewire interface isn't being used for IP networking.

  • IMac shutting down on startup - Can't enter safe mode as wireless keyboard doesn't connect quickly enough

    Hi all,
I was planning to use bootcamp to install Windows 7 on my mid-2010 21.5" iMac.
Bootcamp recommended I usk disk utility to repair the drive. I had a snow leopard install disk in the drive, (I didn't realise Lion already had it's recovery tools built in to the hard drive.)
Disk utility said it can't repair the drive and recommended I start backing up my data (because the hard drive could be about to fail). Fine, so I restarted, with the intention of backing up everything (all my work for the last 12 months). So I press the power button, grey screen comes up, then the apple logo, then a progress bar appears (found this odd at first, but later found out it has something to do with disk utility and a bad hard drive) it gets to around 20% and then all power is cut from the iMac and the hard drive stops/everything powers down.
Now, I can't seem to get my iMac to boot into recovery utilities or into safe mode because it doesn't connect to the wireless keyboard in time before it shuts down. So, if I use a wired keyboard (I have a dell USB keyboard that I can take from the office), will I be able to boot into safe mode?
Also, if the disk in drive is causing the problem, then I can't remove it because the wireless keyboard won't connect/register any keypresses.

    Ok so, status report:
Wired keyboard is non responsive when I plug it in before/during boot. So i guess it needs to be plugged in before the iMac shut down. That's that out the window.
Plugged in headphones and I can't hear the startup chime so don't know when to start holding buttons.
To make matters worse, the wireless keyboard is no longer paired with the iMac, getting a green blinking light which indicates it wants to connect to a computer or device.
So I can't enter any commands whatsoever, can't remove the disk in the drive or boot safe mode. It's my worst nightmare.

  • Firewire doesn't work.

    Hi,
My macbook pro firewire doesn't not work anymore.
I try all the way (reset the SMC and RAM also) but it stil can not work.
My HDD is Lacie, it's worked with iMac and used to worked with MP.
Any idea to help me fix this problem, please?
    Thank you!

    janieshin,
so I take it that your Lacie HDD is an external FireWire disk? You’ve noted that at some past time, it worked with an iMac — have you confirmed that it still works well when connected to other Macs with FireWire ports? Do you have a second FireWire device to test against your MacBook Pro, to ensure that the problem is not with the Lacie disk? Have you tried running your MacBook Pro’s Apple Hardware Test, to see if it can detect a problem with the MacBook Pro’s FireWire port?

  • BootCamp + Windows 7+ Firewire  Doesn't works

Hello I'm trying to connect an external HardDrive using the firewire in Windows 7, using macos it works fine using both USB and Firewire, but in Windows 7 I can only use it with the USB, the firewire doesn't works, I plug it and it doesn't runs, it does nothing.
I'm using the first model of MacBookPro 13" with Windows7 Pro 64bits.

Apparently you did not read the Bootcamp Install and help manuals. There is no Windows Support Software download for Snow Leopard. The Windows Support Software (drivers) for Windows in Snow Leopard are located on your Snow Leopard Install Disk.

  • Now External Firewire doesn't show on desktop...even on another computer.

This is a continuation of the problem of the disappearing internal hard drives topic but it's taken on a whole new dimension. I have restored two of the three internal volumes affected and they show up. So I thought maybe now I can use the command-, option on the finder to make the third volume appear. Under "show these items on desktop" I checked the box next to "hard disks" off and then back on. I didn't touch the box next to "external drives" but the EXTERNAL firewire drive disappeared from the desktop. Two of the three internal volumes still showed on desktop. The external firewire shows in Disk Utility but nowhere else. I disconnected the firewire drive and connected it to a laptop. It doesn't show on the desktop there either, but it does show in disk utility. Obviously my computer must be doing something to the drives to make them not appear no matter where they're connected. I'm desperate now.

Did you try mounting it in Disk Utility?

  • IPhone 5 doesn't connect to iTunes, although I just synchronized my iPhone 3.

I just bought an iPhone 5 and would like to sync with content from iPhone 3. When configurating the iPhone, I chose the option to connect to iTunes. However, it was impossible to click on File/ synchronize iPhone, as it was greyed out!
As I wanted to use it straight off, I had to chose the configuration option "use as new device" (or similar).
How do I sync with iTunes now? It still doesn't connect to my iTunes account.

I have an IPhone 4 that turns off on its own. When I plug the phone into an outlet, it says to connect to iTunes. When i connect my phone to itunes, the screen displays the apple icon and doesn't connect to iTunes.  I need to backup info on this phone so I can apply my back up to a new iPhone. Is there any another way i can do this? My older phone will not show it's connected to iTunes. I used iCloud on the phone with problems, but I didn't back up all the info thru iCloud. Is there another way to back up?

Sounds like your phone is in recovery mode.  In this case, all data on it is gone.  There's nothing to back up.

My iphone 4 doesn´t connect through Wi-Fi, Apple replaced my phone for a new one, but the new one  has the same problem. I have an ipod third generation and it doesn´t have this problem. Having compared both working at the same time, the iphone alsways lags behind or doesn´t even connect to the internet via Wi-Fi. Does any one know what to do?? Thanks

Have you ever checked to see if there is an update for your router? If yes, then power off router. Then on iPhone go into settings and do a reset network settings. Power router back on, and try connecting phone to router.

  • My mac doesn't connect to my home network by default

My computer doesn't connect to my Airport basestation by default. The WiFi at the top bar is not connected, if I click on the WiFi symbol I see my connection and 2 of my neighbors, but none are connected by default. I always have to manually select my basestation. When I open Safari for the 1st time I get a "not connected to the Internet" type error. When I click diagnose and walk through the steps of selecting my location and basestation it connects without an issue.
I've gone into the System Preferences and tried to create a new location, but no luck. When I look in System Preferences and click into 'Advanced' my network is the only one listed in the Preferred Networks window. Why does it not connect by default. If I restart the computer I have to manually select my network again.

Have you tried deleting the SSID in the Preferred Networks section and then reentering it?
