Built in GPS module in iphone 3G/3GS

Hi all,
I have googled but could not find any information.
With regards to built in GPS module in iphone 3G/3GS, i heard some says
* Only 3G/3GS 16GB & 32GB has the built in GPS module (yes or no)
I need to confirm, because i am suspecting my 3G 8GB has no built in GPS module.
Assuming there is, i also could grab any GPS signal, using MotionX lite application to test.
Any advice is appreciated.
Here is the link that i have from apple website.

ALL iPhone 3G and 3GS models sold outside of China have GPS, as shown on the Apple iPhone web site. Only the original iPhone lacks GPS

  • Hi, am I right in thinking that the only iPads with a built in GPS are the cellular models not the wifi only ones?

hi, am I right in thinking that the only iPads with a built in GPS are the cellular models not the wifi only ones?
I am looking to purchase an iPad2 and need a built in GPS

    Mini-education:
GPS signals are separate from and completely unrelated to both the Internet and the cellular telephone network.  GPS signals come directly from the GPS satellites.  They provide signals that allow GPS receivers to calculate latitude and longitude information.  Navigation software then takes that latitude/longitude info and converts it to land mass, roads, bridges, highways, buildings, etc.
Most navigation software stores the maps right in the iPad/iPod/iPhone but a disadvantage is that the maps must be periodically updated (perhaps once every two years).  The Internet is not required to use the system but it is required to update the maps.
Some navigation software gets the maps from the Internet and requires an Internet connection to function but an advantage is that the maps are always up-to-date.
The WiFi+3G/4G iPad and the iPhone both have a GPS receiver.  The WiFi-only iPad and the iPod do not and these devices require an accessory.

  • MMS Has Arrived For iPhone 3G/3GS

The latest 5.5 Carrier Update has been posted on iTunes. With this carrier update it allows your 3G or 3GS to send and receive MMS. To get the new carrier file connect your phone to your computer, start iTunes and tell iTunes to check for updates for you phone. Some things of note:
This only affects 3G and 3GS iPhones. Apple and AT&T do not support MMS on the 2G (First Generation) iPhone. If you have a 2G and are wanting MMS google is your friend.
After downloading and installing the new carrier file turn off your phone. When it is completely powered off turn it back on. This will allow the changes to take effect.
In order to get the 5.5 carrier file your phone MUST be running the 3.1 OS. If you are stilll using 3.0, 3.0.1 OS or your phone is Jailbroken DO NOT upgrade until the dev team says you can. There are other means to enable MMS on your Jailbroken or even Non Jailbroken 3G and 3GS. Once again google is your friend.
MMS is included in your text messaging plan. There will be no additional costs for sending and receiving MMS if you have a texting plan.

No, because I use a Mophie Juice Pack Air.
Gosh, I would never suspect that you are an agent for Xpal! You seem so sincere in your statement that you can't find any information on the XPAL IPOWER FOR IPHONE 3G/3GS PROTECTIVE CASE WITH BATTERY CHARGER.
Sorry pal. It's REALLY obvious since the internet is flooded with you product's information.
Seriously folks. I DO use a Mophie Juice Pack Air and it's awesome and offers more protection than the other battery cases out there. Looks way better too.

  • Is it possible to install a TomTom app in my iPad "only wifi" and use the GPS in my iPhone 5?

    Hi.
Is it possible to install a TomTom app in my iPad "only wifi model" and use the GPS in my iPhone 5?

    Nope

  • The GPS on my iPhone 5 does not show a map of any kind?

The GPS on my IPhone 5 does not display any map, is just gray with a red dot?

The "GPS" is a chip in the phone that determines location. What app are you talking about? Maps? Google Maps? Do you have an active data connection? Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?

  • Iphone 4 & 3gs on ios5.01 in a boot loop

Having both an iphone 4 and 3GS (neither are jail broken) in the same fault being stuck in a boot loop following nothing in common with either phone in relation to an application causing the issue.
I commenced in removing some application to see if that would make a difference, as the loop cycle was too fast t back the device up but that made no difference.
I then removed some pictures from both devices and well what do you know they have stopped looping and are back up and running correctly.

    Hi,
The state of the computer/s memory is irrelevant to this issue even though there is no shortage on either memory or disk capacity.
How-ever the issue was resolved by removing a number of images/photos and videos from the iphone 4 & 3GS.
I do hope that this resolution can help others, and that the possible limitation issue of the devices for the storage of images and videos can be looked into as it clearly did cause an issue for the users, and I am a strong believer in finding the cause rather than re-building devices; as that does not give an answer in removing the issue in the future.
    I hope this heps.

  • Need a new phone - Built in GPS

Well, my Nokia 6110 Navigator died when I accidentally gav it a bath! So looking for a new one
I really need a phone with a SatNav, so what options are there, I would like one with Bulit in GPS rather than needing an external gps device.
Is the Nokia 6210 Navigator better? Or any other phone you would reccommend?
    Thanks!
    Mark

The 6110 Navigator was the only phone which supported the Route66 maps, all the other phones with GPS does not support the Route66 and has Nokia Maps.
The difference between these 2 maps providers is that the Route66 gives you free turn by turn voice guided navigation but you will have to purchase the updates for the maps or if you need additional regions then it needs to be purchased as well.
On the Nokia maps you get all the maps for free, you can look for address, get your position and update your maps plus you can also simulate from one place to another place for free. However if you want the turn by turn real time voice guided navigation then you would have to purchase a license for it.
Basicly all the newer phones has the built in GPS, If you are really in to navigation then you might as well opt for the 6210 Navigator as it has an internal built in compass as well.
Mark me a KUDOS if this has helped...

  • BlackBerry Curve to iPhone 3G & 3GS

How can I import my contacts from my BlackBerry Curve to iPhone 3G & 3GS?
Any ideas would be very grateful.

As the two operating systems of the devices are completely different, it is unlikely any of th applications will transfer.
For the contacts, sync your BB to your desktop, such as Outlook using Desktop Manager, and then sync the iPhone to your Outlook. I guess the iPhone will sync to Outlook, you'll have to get details on that probably in a iPhone forum somewhere. Good luck.

  • Using an external GPS with an iPhone 4S

For improved accuracy, I want to use an external GPS with my iPhone 4S. I have purchases a Dual XGPS150A Bluetooth GPS receiver and successfully paired it with the iPhone. Dual's "GPS Status Tool" app reports the GPS data from the device just fine. So now I want to get other apps like MotionX to use the GPS data from the XGPS150A in preference to the iPhone's own GPS.
Dual's technical support assures me this can only be done by putting the iPhone in Airplane Mode then re-enabling Bluetooth. Well that's a showstopper. However, in another post here, I found this statement from BrettAtBadElph: "As long as you are using an Apple-approved external GPS accessory like the Bad Elf, XGPS150, or GNS, you don't have to worry about configuring the GPS source being used. The iOS device will pick the source with the best accuracy, and shut down the internal receiver to save power."
Is BrettAtBadElph correct? If so, can anyone point me to some documentation?

I've received no responses, nor have I found any difinitive info elsewhere. But I can say that testing this weekend has made it clear that that BradAtBadElph is correct -- MotionX is clearly using the XGPS150A GPS data in favor of the iPhone's native GPS.
Funny aside: Dual's GPS Status Tool app is fairly weak -- it cannot dissplay any GPS data if another GPS-consuming app like MotionX or Waze is in memory.

  • Problem with viewing modules on iPhone / iPad

Hello. I have a problem with viewing my modules on iPhone and iPad. I have the same problem previously with Captivate 6, which I honestly thought that it is solved on Captivate 7, downloaded the trial version just to test it and I got nothing improved about that,
So, when I publish and upload my course on cloud.scorm.com I got this:
iPhone - It only shows the top left of slides and I get full voiceover
iPad - shows photo top left on last slide (not first?) and hangs with no voiceover
This is a simple 4 slide course which I use for testing the project.
If someone wants to test here is a link: http://cloud.scorm.com/sc//InvitationLaunch?userInvitationId=d75b27a6-e7df-41fa-87e6-d7576 48aea93
And I really expect some help with this, because it's really important not to have this type of problems.
    Thanks.

"And I really expect some help with this..."
Please remember that this is a user forum, not Adobe Support.  If you've paid some money for something and it's not working as you expect, you certainly have the right to require the manufacturer to provide after sales support.
But you would not track down another purchaser of the same product and tell them they owe you support...would you?
