I used it just yesterday with both Photobooth and iChat with no problems what so ever. Now all it shows is a green screen! Anybody know what the problem may be and how to fix it??? Thanks!

    Welcome to Discussions, -Jonathon
Here are the solutions that help most users who encounter green-screen problems. None are complicated, but the only way to find which one will work for you is to try them one-by-one until you find the one that fixes your Mac.
    (1) Check your System Preferences as explained in this kbase article about Built-in iSight camera produces blue or green pictures.
    (2) If your System Preferences are set correctly, try every suggestion re: Built-in iSight in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article.
Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific".
If you need help creating a new user account to check whether your problem is "user-specific" during Troubleshooting, see this Help article.
    (3) If resetting or the other suggestions do correct your problem, try the following:
    • Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    • Repair permissions. (Click here if you need help.)
    • Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (iNtel).
    • Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
    (4) A few iNtel Mac laptop users have also reported success after unplugging their Macs and leaving the battery out for half-an-hour to overnight.
    (5) If none of these suggestions help, contact Apple or your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for a professional check.

  • The dreaded "green screen"

This is really bizarre, and I'm very confused as to why this is happening. iChat is allowing audio to go through, but the built in iSight is not working. When I open Photo Booth, all I get is the green screen. I downloaded the update Apple suggested, and still, no luck. The weird thing is the camera works fine on Yahoo! Messenger for Mac...any suggestions?

    Hi David,
If Jan's suggestions does not work they try deleting com.apple.ichat.plist in /Users/(your Account)/Library/Preferences and restarting ichat
Also check that System Preferences > Displays is set to Millions

  • Remove Green Screen with Adobe Photoshop Elements

    Hi,
I have setup a Green Screen in my home. I took some pictures of my wife with the Green Screen Background and want to remove the Green Screen and replace with a different background. I was able to do this via the Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0 but need help with the Photoshop Elements.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Sridhar

FWIW, She is really easy to select on that green screen if you use a few tricks. The screen shots are in CS3 my preference but worked with Elements limitations to show you how easy she can be selected without any filters.
My end product doesn't look as good as Mark's though. That's a tough act to follow. Thought I'd post this anyway just in case you couldn't get that filter to work in Photoshop Elements 7,
First, make a copy of the image and desaturate it to make it black and white. I prefer using Hue/Saturation from the image menu (CTRL U) and moving desat slider down to -100. Next Invert it (CTRL I), then run levels from the image menu (CTRL L) to push the image towards pure white and black...well close. It should look something like this when these steps are done.
Copy this image to a new layer. (Just in case something goes wrong so you don't have to repeat the last steps). Leave the copy in Normal blend mode. Grab your paint brush tool. Set the brush tool's mode to Overlay blend mode. You will use black and white paint to push dark gray to black and light gray to white. When done, it should look something like this:
Not perfect...I did this really fast and was a bit sloppy and didn't get all of my light grays pushed to whites. Probably not a problem for the hair edges but would need to be fixed for face and body areas as this will be a mask to make the selection.
Select mask that was just made and copy it into your clipboard. Select<All; Edit<Copy. Create and adustment layer mask that has a mask. I used the Solid Color Fill Adjustment layer. Alt click the mask of the adjustment layer you created. It will turn the document white. This is because the mask is now the focus. Now paste. Edit<Paste. This will paste the above mask into the adjustment layer mask. Now, either alt click the mask or click on another layer to remove the focus from the mask. You'll use this adjustment layer as a base to a clipping mask. See next paragraph.
The Solid color fill layer (or whatever you picked) with your mask is going to be the base on which your selection will be built. Create a copy of your original image up above this base layer. Now, hold in the alt key and move your curser in the layers pallete to the line separating these two layers. Notice the cursor changes to an odd symbol...a solid ring and a hollow ring with an arrow. Click the palette on the line separating these two layers. (Release alt key when done.) She should now be covering the mask you created. Areas that are white in the adjustment layer mask will show the original image; areas in black in the adjustment layer mask will be transparent. (Areas that contain shades of gray would be semi-transparent...amount based on the gray's brightness value.)
For the green cast on the edges, I removed that by using a Hue/Saturation adjustment layer to remove the green spill over. If you only wanted to effect the girl and not a new background add it to clipping mask. (Same way...alt click the line between her image and the Hue/Saturation layer.)
Not perfect but this is what I came up with based on the above mask:

  • IMovie "green screen" feature has serious problems.

I precisely followed the iMovie "help" instructions to make a green screen effect for what should have been a simple iMovie project... a 10-second video tagline for closing titles on a much more extensive project.
According to iMovie help, it should have been easy (and maybe even fun). It wasn't. Five hours of my life melted away forever. The iMovie "green screen" feature has serious problems. Remember that old Mac advertising campaign that said "It just works"? Well, it doesn't. Shame on Apple and the iMovie development team.

    Folks,
I ran into the same issue (I named it "transparent green screen", I hadn't a better name).
I spent about a week to solve this problem, since I needed it to build a marriage slideshow.
    The tools & Config:
iMovie 09, iPhoto 09, Adobe After Effects CS4
Mac OS X 10.6.2, MacBook Pro 13" 2.26 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB RAM
The Solution for the "transparent green screen":
I created a movie in AE, and put a green background into it. It was the pure green color.
When I imported the movie into iMovie I just got the "transparent green screen", not the real effect.
I some cases, by changing the background images, I could get the green screen to work, but it was kind of random. Which made it harder to solve it.
I thought it could be because of AE, some incompatibility. I went to Youtube and downloaded a green screen video (a woman dancing in a green background). I inserted the video into iMovie, and it worked just fine, all the way.
Then I tried to match the green color I was creating digitally with the Youtube video's green color. It didn't work either. The "transparent" effect was there again.
But when I looked at that Youtube video, I noticed that the green color was not pure. Because that green background was made in the real world, it was not pure, there were some shades of green.
Well, I just replicated that into the digital world. Modified my video's digital green background. From pure green to a gradient green, but very subtle, almost imperceptible. Just to replicate the "imperfection from the real world".
That was it. Solved. Maybe iMovie 09 needs that imperfection to work well. Using "pure greens" might confuses it.
Please do your tests. And let me know your results.
    Regards and greetings from Brazil.

  • Photo Booth Effects Fuzzy Like a Bad Green Screen

Just wondering about the background effects in Photo Booth & how they work.  I know you're supposed to step out of frame and then back in.  Ive tried this several times now in different rooms in my house and I never get a solid background.  It's always fuzzy/broken up kind of like a bad green screen effect.  So just wondering if I'm doing something wrong or that's just how it works.
    I am using Lion.

"Is there something wrong with my built-in iSight on my MacBook Pro? "
    Nope!
Use as plain a real background behind you as you can. The busier the background, the harder it is for your Mac to tell you from the background.
Have as much light behind you and in front of you as possible. I found that lighting is a huge key to making the effect work well. If possible use hologen lights. The brighter your room, the better BE works. Matter of fact, your BE picture will be perfect.
DO NOT wear the colors green and/or blue.
    Good luck & much fun!

Ok so im trying to instal SL on my mac but each time i get the clean disc and try again error... Btw is a brand new cd that works because i installed on anothe macbook. So after trying o make a copy and failing i inserted a dvd to see if it was the cd (didnt know that the cd wasnt bad at that time) or not. So when the dvd started running all i get is a green screen, tried another movie and the samething. Is my disk drive bad? Can buying lense cleaner fix this or is it beyond fixing?

It will make it easier to help you w/ your problem to know the exact model, size, year built, RAM installed and OS you're running.
A little history and circumstance is also helpful.

  • Video does not play just a green screen

    help.
i built a dvd project with several video (m2v) files.
then i did some changes in fcp and re-exported the files, same names etc.
then in dvdsp - some of the video files will not play, or play 2 secs only, or play as a green screen...
tried re-exporting, that worked twice, tried rebooting that worked about twice too, but now nothing works.
    anybody had this problem?
btw the software is all up to date, fcs 2.
    thank you

the bitrate is just from a dvd setting in compressor - i think i've eliminated that though, since this only happens to some files, whereas all the files are from the same compressor setting. i think it's 90mins draft qual.

  • Getting cleaner edges with  4:1:1 miniDV  green screen footage

I understand 4:1:1 miniDV footage is not so good for green screen stuff. From what I've gathered searching google, it helps to blur the U and V channels before applying a color key. How do I do that in After Effects? Does anyone know any other tricks?

You can transform the colorspace using the Channel Combiner effect. Just don't forget to transform it back after you've done your blurs. You can further refine this technique by separating the transformed channels using e.g. Shift Channels and treating each component separately. You can properly recombine them by using e.g. the Add (RGB) or Luminance (YUV) blendmode. Anothr possible trick is to duplicate the layer and use blendmodes like Color in combination with your blur, then key the resulting pre-composition. Still, the best solution (if you do this regualarly) is to look into some specialized deartifacting plugins. A good generic point to start is RevisionFX SmoothKit collection which offers a wide selection of adaptive blurs that can be used to even out the background (Median) or soften block artifacts after the keying. Plus it has the advantage of a great variety of otehr creative uses... Also check out Primatte and its built-in deartifacting mechanisms. I'm sure you can also find simialr complementary tools from other plugin vendors.

  • 'Green Screen' Special Effects with iSight & iMovie?

I need to record a short (30 - second) movie of just me talking. I thought I would record it with my iSight camera & Quicktime.
If I use a green screen. . .can I swap in a different background in iMovie? If I can, does anyone have a good idea for a home-made green screen? (thought maybe I would just go to the art store and get a piece of green posterboard unless anyone has a better idea)
    TIA,
    Larry

    Hello Larry,
"Green screen" recording is a function that is built into my Sony camcorders. Sony calls it "superimposing." Because it is easy to use the built-in function, I use my camcorders for all my superimposed video work.
You can read about how it works on a Sony camcorder in pages 118 through 120 of this Operating Instructions manual. If you have a camcorder, yours may have the function, too, although it might have a different name if your camcorder is not a Sony.
I do not know how to do with in QuickTime Pro. If you get no better answer here and cannot find the answers in the QT Pro Tutorial or Help pages, try searching or posting this question in the QuickTime for Mac OS Forum.

  • Can Final Cut Express 3.5 work with green screen video?

Forgive my lack of technical terms but I am interested in my next FCE project being a bit more technical with some animations done in front of a green screen. Can FCE "erase" the green so I can overlay it to another background and or movie?
    Cheers,

    Hi Lori.
In case you need some more practical advice:-
FCE has several different filters built in for Green and Blue Screen work.
FCE can also be used for animation and compositing.

  • The Green Screen and Video Problems

    Hello,
I've read through the issues and answers on this topic but some of the things are working and some not.  For isntance, I was able to resolve one of my issues with some other fixes I had found through general online forums for the "green" screen which plays with only audio.  It seems to be working for me on you tube but not on Facebook anymore alhtough Facebook videos worked the first time around when I rebooted.
What I did was go into my internet options and under accelerated graphics I ticked use software rendering instead of...
and under the security tab I ticked enable 64 bit processes in enhanced protected...  Should the Enhanced protected mode be enabled as well then?  Should I tick that option.
I also treid to do what the answers recommended...such as right clicking on the video in Facebook when it is playing and while I do get a pop up I get settings options or global settings and adobe flash player info...clicking on settings gives me options but none for the "display", only for my microphone, camera and storage.  If I click on global settings, it takes me to flash player help.  And last option I get my version of Adobe info, which is version 13.00.214.  So no option to untick disable accelerated graphics cause I think I've done this in control panel already.
But now why it is working with youtube and not with Facebook videos  I also tried to play some home videos like wmv files and other video files in my windows media flash player and there I get a black screen but still audio plays.
My computer is an HP Pavillion Notebook PC and it came with Windows 8.1 already installed.  My Graphics Display adapter is an AMD Radeon R5 Graphics Card.
So what the heck do I do now.  Should I install newer Adode Player?  Even when unticking the accelerated graphis option, this is really not a solution to the deeper problem and issue, because then it slows down your graphics?
My computer is not even a week old and I hate having to always download fixes and constant updates and spend hours researching and trying to fix a problem that really should not occur to begin with.  Why are there so many glitches with Windows?  Is this a problem related with windows updates as well.  Active X controls?  Compatibility isuses with 64 bit processes.  Should I use Firefox.  I did that with my old HP which finally kicked the bucket and that is why I had to buy a new one.  I had to replace my battery before even a year and my warranty battery did not last that long either and then the thing finally overheated and died.  But I had lots of similar things happen before with last HP laptop so is it Windows or is it HP or is it browsers, players?
I am sorry if I am unloading on you...I don't mean too but it is just soooo frustrating as a consumer to have to always go through these kinds of things.  I use my laptop for self employment so please help!!!!!
Thanks for letting me vent..  I would appreciate your help, thank you.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I am sorry you have experience any issues.  I have looked into your issue with the Video issues.
    Have you uninstalled Internet Explorer?
    Have you tried Google Chrome?
It already includes Adobe® Flash® Player built-in. Google Chrome will automatically update when new versions of Flash Player are available. Adobe are on version 15. Here is a spot to update. This does have a link to Google Chrome as well.
Here is a link to common Flashplayer issues.
I would try a system restore as this would undo any changes that might have happened with a Microsoft update. Sometimes they have not finished or been installed on the Notebook.
    Hope this helps you.

  • Why iSight have green screen on mac os and works fine in windows.BootCamp?.

hi, it seems like its a common but or some like that but yes, my iSight does have a green screen just after updating from mac os 10.4.6 to 10.4.7, weirdo thing is that when i boot to windows partition, iSight works well (poor image quality) but works....
is there a new driver for iSight? or is there a permanent fix on that green screen?

  • Imovie 09 Green Screen Lag

I recently built a nice green screen to use with imovie 09. Everything with imovie 09 and green screening has worked so far except... when I select the green screen option, the green screen clip's audio lags. The words don't match up with the mouth.
    Any help would be appreciated

I just received my copy of iLife '09 today and installed it this evening.
Like others, I was looking forward to being able to do simple green screen editing in iMovie instead of bogging down my system with FCP...
But so far I don't see how to do it. When I pull up the "Maps and Backgrounds" box I see the blue screen and green screen, but when I apply them to my movies they just get thrown in as transitions - not behind the actual video clip/subject itself.
Any ideas? Am I doing this wrong? Will I have to go back to FCP???
(Oh, and the "faces" featured in iPhoto takes forever to process a large photo library! My 30Gb library says it's going to take 240 minutes to process.)
