Welcome to Discussions, diefokkenkinders
Your Mac should work properly from the first time you turn it on.
If your MBP did not work the first time you tried it, I agree with sig that you should return it for service including a thorough check to be certain there are no other problems with your particular machine.
If you want to try some things before returning your Mac, or if your iSight once worked but has is now giving trouble, you can try the suggestions in Apple's Troubleshooting article:

Cinema Display (clear) with DVI/ADC box doesn't work with MacBook Pro when plugged in with a dvi to mini dvi cable. Any ideas what to do to make it work? I lugged the 23" 2500 miles into the wilderness and I need help

Okay, here's an update: the DVI to ADC adapter does work with the Apple displays that I have tried, but it won't work with the Formac. I have tried multiple time to contact them, but to no avail... they don't even respond to threats of posting my opinion of them, which is this:
DON'T BUY ANYTHING FROM FORMAC! They make quality products, but their customer service is a big time joke! They won't take care of you.

  • Built-in iSight problem on iChat w/ Macbook Pro

when i try to invite people to see my iSight, it says connection failed because Ididn't respond. This has happened almost every single time I have tried to connect. The only 2 times it has worked, one of the times it disconnected after a few minutes. The other time was just a few minutes ago when my dad and I connected with our iSights. Although it worked with my Dad and I, it didn't work with 2 other people both immediatly before and after my dad and I connected.
I found this answer but have no idea what it means. someone said it worked for them but i am not a computer genious. anyone know how to help?
the answer i found: If it isn't your Firewall settings, what kind of router are you using and does it use UPnP?
If it does, try toggling UPnP off and on again, then connecting. Also, you might want to try using a different MTU setting. The Ralph Johns site has some recommendations on values to use.
This happens to me with my brother and toggling the UPnP solves it (Netgear D834G router). However, if I turn off or reboot my router, I have to toggle the option once more to get video chats working again.
macbook pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi Molly,
Ok UPnP stands for Universal Plug and Play.
This is a means where the Application on the computer instructs the modem to open the ports it needs.
It allows multiple computers and other devices on your LAN to use the same ports at the same time.
This means that the router or modem can be left in it's default mode which is likely to be DHCP.
Ok so now DHCP is a means whereby the router or modem gives out IP addresses to the devices and computers on your LAN.
Your computer keeps the same IP until the lease time runs out. If the computer is on and connected to the DHCP serving device then the DHCP lease is renewed. If it is off or unconnected at the time the lease runs out then the IP gets changed the next time the computer is tunred on. (with a Mac this also includes Sleep). It acts as if it is a new computer on the LAN is one way of looking at it.
So if you use Port Forwarding and DHCP there is a chance your computer's IP will change at times. As the Port Forwarding points to one IP on the LAN it may not always be pointing to your computer.
As you are using UPnP which means any IP can have the ports open it does not matter if your computer's IP changes with using DHCP.
Now your computer and modem (or router) can be set up so that the IP to the computer never changes. This is called Static routing.
It is created by turning Off DHCP in the modem or router.
A change needs to be made on the Mac in System Preferences > Network > Connection method >TCP/IP tab.
In the drop down that reads Using DHCP now needs to be changed to read Manually.
After this you need to type in the IP in the filed underneath that the computer is going to use.
Alonmg with the Subnet Mask and "router" IP info and possibly the DNS server info if you have it.
Now the IP you choose needs to be in the same range the Modem or router is using.
So if your modem is at 192.168.1.100 then your computer needs to be any number in 192.168.1.xxx except for .100 as long as it is between 1 and 255.
The other info should be copied from the Using DHCP settings
(Subnet Mask, DNS Servers and "router" IP address).
    Hope this is some use.

  • Pressing D on boot to get into Diagnostic mode doesn't work. Macbook Pro with OSX 10.6.8

My charger has stopped working all of a sudden for my MacBook Pro. I tried my friends charger and it works. I've seen a few people mentioning that their charger started working again after running a Diagnostic test at boot up by pressing "D" after powering up the computer.
I see this instruction all over the web, but it doesn't work for me! I have the OSX DVD in the drive. Holding down "C" while booting makes it boot on the DVD, and holding the Option key will give me a boot menu. But it just boots normally while holding down "D".
    Am I missing something?

    Press D during startup
Start up in Apple Hardware Test (AHT).
Apple Hardware Test is included on the DVDs that are shipped with some Macintosh computers. If the copy on your hard drive becomes unavailable, use the DVDs to run Apple Hardware Test.
For Intel-based Apple computers that shipped with Mac OS X v10.5.4 or earlier, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and should be included with your computer.
For Apple computers that shipped with Mac OS X v10.5.5 to 10.6.7, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Applications Install Disc 2 and should be included with your computer.
For some Apple computers that shipped with OS X Lion, if Apple Hardware Test cannot be found on the hard drive, an Internet-based version starts up instead.

    Hi,
my external HDD works on Windows and Macbook SL, doesn't with Macbook Pro ML.
I can't see it in Disk Utility.
Can someone help me or suggest what I have to do?
    Thanks

Based on what you have said, I do not have an answer for you.  The obvious difference is the OS, but I find it difficult to believe that would be the problem.
Do you have another HDD to attach to the MBP?  That seems to be my last arrow in my quiver.
    Ciao.

  • Airplay doesn't work after Macbook Pro repair

I have a late-2011 Macbook Pro running OS X 10.9.4. I was having trackpad and stability issues so I brought my computer to the Apple store for service. It was sent out for repair and returned with several new parts, including motherboard, trackpad and battery. Since then, Airplay will not work - it worked before the repair, as well as working perfectly on my iPhone currently. There is no Airplay icon on the computer, and when I go to the Display settings it says no devices are detected. I'm up to date with all software. When I restarted the computer, the Airplay icon appeared - I clicked on it, selected AppleTV, then got an error message saying it could not connect. Then the icon disappeared. I've tried restarting my AppleTV, as well as updating the software - still works fine on the iPhone, but not the Macbook Pro. I'm using the same wireless for everything. Thanks for any suggestions!

    first of all
thank you for helping me fixing this problem. I got the report of my network and it shows in the image the result.
also the TV is near my ATV along with the router'EA2700' and modem from grande communication but nothing in top of others or closed space. also it is not encrypted

  • Frustrated: Just bought PSE 10 and doesn't work on Macbook Pro?

    I hope someone can help.
I have a Macbook Pro running Version 10.7.4 and I have just bought Photoshop Elements 10.
Having installed PSE 10 from DVD as instructed, when I try to open it I get a message that says: Photoshop Elements 10 cannot be opened because of a problem.
I have no idea where to turn next?!
    Thanks

Well, PSE 6 and up all work fine in 10.7.4, so let's try to find out what went wrong. Are you running from an admin account? If you have antivirus software did you disable it while installing? How are you trying to open PSE?

  • Wifi doesn't work on macbook pro when not on home wifi

I recently have encountered a problem - when I take my 2013 macbook pro Processor  2.6 GHz Intel Core i5 flash drive. I have no problem accessing wifi in my office but when I travel with my macbook pro and try to access wifi at locations I have had connections with before, I am unable to search. The triangle is clearly connecting with the wifi and the drop down shows that the correct connection has been reached. However, my dropbox icon is gray which is an indication that there isn't an internet connection and I have no access to firefox or safari. Please advise.

    Ah, that's OK then.

  • Front Row doesn't work on MacBook Pro 17

I just got my nice MacBook Pro 17, which includes Front Row manual and that cute remote control...
However, i could open Front Row.
Actualy, the application is not installed. I just found FrontRow.pkg inside the folder HD/Library/Receipts/FrontRow.pkg
I contact apple.com and downloaded versions there, but couldn't install anyone since the instalers claim that my computer is not equiped to run Front Row (????)
I couldn't get any support form apple.
    Could anybody help me, pls?

    great!
I found the same question and the SOLUTION in this forum. Thank you!.
Pity that the Macbook Pro17 SPANISH manual just says "open the Front Row application" and not how to do (holding Comand-Esc).....
    Nice laptop though....
    Thanks again!

  • How to download Office on Pro? I used my CD but it didn't work files just kept popping up. It been more than a year i have bought it and used it on my PC it doesn't work on Macbook Pro for me. Thanks

I need Office on here i mostly use Microsoft word but i tried X Word Free but it doesn't show the diagrams that my teacher has listed any help please? Thank You.

You must purchase Office from Microsoft.
Or you can try the freeware suite, Libre Office, that is functionally similar to Office 2007 for Windows except it works on Lion/Mountain Lion.
You may want to consider as well:
These two suites are similar to Libre Office but not as current or as well-supported:
    NeoOffice
    Open Office
And, then there is Apple's iWork suite:
Pages - word processing and layout
    Keynote - presentation
    Numbers - spreadsheet
Each can open and save Office compatible files. They may be purchased separately via the Mac App Store for $19.99 each.

Just purchased "Wild West Quest" at App Store. App does not respond to trackpad.  Will not go full page. Force quit only by holding down on button.  App Store lists developer website www.anarchyent.com but browser cannot find that url address.  Have OS X ver 10.8.5

You can also contact the manufacturer on Facebook, Twitter & Tumblr.  Did you try those places also?  Did you check for a phone #?  Search Google & Bing if you have to!

  • ISight doesn't work anymore

    Hello guys,
my internal iSight stopped working some days ago It worked well for more than 1 year (I did lots of video chats with Skype and iChat and took even more snapshots with PhotoBooth) but now it suddenly stopped. I have no idea what the reason could be, the notebook just lay on the table as it did for weeks, it didn't fall down or anything like that.
The whole system doesn't detect the camera anymore, the system profiler says under "Hardware->USB" that there is a "Vendor-Specific" thing instead of the camera. Even under Windows XP via Bootcamp the iSight doesn't work anymore, though I used it without problems some weeks ago.
I've already had the very same problem on 16th august this year. That time I could fix it just by resetting the PRAM and VRAM, but this time this doesn't work. I also wondered whether a Firmware-Reset might solve the problem, but as I've installed the MacBook Firmware-Update 1.1 I can't use the Firmware Restoration CD (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303469: "Note: This CD cannot be used to return an Intel-based Macintosh computer's firmware to a previous version if a successful update has already been performed.").
I really hope you can help me and that it's not a hardware-defect, because my guaranty has expired some weeks ago.
    Thanks, Woelfle

Ok, it actually seems to be an hardware-defect Well, at least an insulate contact. I've pressed the area around the iSight camera and the MacBook-display softly and now the camera works again as if there haven't been any problems. This explains why it worked again after the first time the defect occurred…
So what would you say? Let it as it is? Don't change anything? Or opening the bezel around the display to check the contacts (how difficult is this for a layman?)? Or going to the next apple store and let them check the contacts (remember: I don't have guaranty anymore)?
