Built-In iSight NOT detected on my Windows XP!!

My built-in iSight is not being detected in my windows when I want to video chat on AIM or skype. Under My Computer, there is nothing under Scanners and Cameras. But on the Mac OS X side of my OS, I can use iSight with iChat. I do NOT use Parallels, but I have two operating systems on my computer. Please help!

Welcome to Apple Discussions, Brittany Tu
I have not used Windows for about eight years now, so my first suggestion will relate to Mac OS X.
(1) You can boot your Mac into OS X and use its iChat AV for chatting with your AIM friends. If you need help, here's how:
• While running in Mac OS X, quit all running applications
• Launch iChat on your Mac
• Choose the iChat > Help > iChat Help menu item
• When the Help window opens, click the "A new way to video conference." link
• See the help instructions there.
If you need more help, click here for Apple's Mac 101: iChat AV tutorial.
By the way, you do NOT need to use AOL or have AIM software installed on your Mac to use iChat AV in Mac OS X to connect with other iChat or AIM users. You only need iChat AV and the AIM Name you already have (or, if you do not already have one, you can get a FREE AIM Name here.)
(As an alternative to an AIM Name, if you have an Apple .Mac name (either a Free Trial or paid account name is OK), your dot Mac account name will also work as your iChat account (buddy) name.)
If you want ALL the info about iChat, see Ralph's iChat FAQs:
  http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/index.html
(2) For Skype, you can download the free Mac OS X versions of Skype while you are booted in Mac OS X on your Mac. The Mac version of Skype is easy to configure and set up, and it works with your existing Skype account info for connecting to your existing Skype contacts. If you have difficulty, see the Mac OS X help info in Skype's Help pages.
(3) If you are using Windows XP via Boot Camp on your Mac, the iSight drivers are contained in the driver CD that you create for the Boot Camp install. After you have read the instructions and created the driver CD, use that driver CD to install the driver for the built-in iSight in the same way you would add any other driver for XP.
(4) If you are using Windows XP via some other method or need to post back for more suggestions, be sure to include your system info including which specific Mac and Mac OS you are using. Also post what virtual PC emulator you are using to create your Windows XP environment. The more specific you can make your question and system info, the more likely you will get a useful answer quickly.
We will be glad to try to provide other suggestions based on the details of your response.

  • Built in iSight Not Detected

    Hi,
Having an issue with my MacBook Pro where in iMovie, I am not able to select my built in iSight as an input source to record with (Camera Not Detected). Photo Booth works fine, and the issue recurs in a clean account.
I have no problem with this software on both my MacBook (2008) and iMac (2006), running the same OS version. I'm assuming this has something to do with the new hardware.
Apple Support claims that the software is incompatible with Snow Leopard, but is working fine otherwise. Just wondering if anyone here has had the same problem and has been able to shed some light as to why this occurs/ how to fix it.
    Thanks!

I do not have the problem and I cannot shed any light as to "why" you have the problem, but here are my best thoughts based on your info.
I often use iM6HD for quick iSight clips on MacPro using the iSight built into my LED Cinema Display. iM6HD works as well with my MacBook Pro. Both run SL.
I sometimes see strange color blinks in the preview window *before I begin to record*, but there is no problem while I am recording.
My inbuilt iSights shows up in the camera selection button just as it did in previous Mac OSs.
Have you selected "iSight" when you create your new movie project?
Are you observing the prohibition against running another camera apps when you open iMovie?
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3095
    Have you restarted the Mac?
I see you have tested in a "clean account". If that means a new user account, my only other thought would be whether a clean install of the OS with NO other software additions might give any insight?
If nothing helps, you may be right that there is something special about the new hardware.
If that is the case, why not capture your iSight video in SL's QuickTimeX? Then import the clip into whichever iMovie/editor you like for editing.

  • Built-in iSight not detected by iMovie HD

iMovie HD 6.0.3 doesn't detect my MacBook Pro's built-in iSight camera, despite the fact that it works fine with iChat AV, Flash, and WengoPhone. It displays the message "No Camera Attached" and only "Time Lapse..." appears on the camera selection list.
I have checked that no other iSight-enabled applications are running before starting iMovie, and reinstalled iMovie and restarted multiple times. Does anyone have any suggestions for how to fix this?
Thanks in advance for your help!

  • Built in Isight not detected in USB

    Hi,
I got the new IMac now and was using the isight. Had funw ith it and suddenly after I updated my system, Isight refused to work and the common error that everyone has" photobooth, cam used elsewhere" came in. So I checked the docs and found out that the cam is not detected in the USB list in the system profiler. Now how do you fix that??
    Any help is welcome.
    Thank you

    You are welcome, Ebenezer.

And another thing...Kindly see that the right SMC should be 1.1f5 but mine is 1.6f0... we dont have support from Apple...

5th generation ipod not detected by my windows xp.  works fine on other pc.  performed necessary steps to remove and reinstall itunes but having same issue. is there a driver i can download to pc then direct to that specific location when installing?

I have a similar issue - my iPod nano connects and is visible in Device Manager yet invisible in My Computer and iTunes. I've tried everything I can possibly think of to try and solve this myself, all in vain.
Mine is a nano 4G. I've been using it for quite some time without the slightest problem. I have been using WINAMP instead of iTunes to manage my darling nano.
Then, one fine day I bought a new computer and the nano would not show up in My Computer, though the nano display shows "Do not disconnect". On my old computer it worked (and still works) absolutely fine with win XP as well as with win7 (the later I currently use on my new/problematic computer, which I bought last summer and that's how long I've had this problem).
Of course, after several first attempts I gave up and installed iTunes. I've tried using the Apple support article "iPod not recognized in 'My Computer' and in iTunes for Windows":
    - reset
    - fully charged,
    - cable works fine on two other computers
    - in normal or disk mode makes no difference
    - tried to find anything useful in the diagnostics mode
    - reinstalled iTunes several different times since then to the latest version
    - I've unplugged every other USB device except for my mouse and keyboard and tried several different USB ports on my motherboard (USB 3.0 and conventional), as well as trying different USB- related options in my BIOS.
    - I've never used any Mac with this ipod
    - I've tried fiddling with the win7 Services by stopping and restarting them and of course
    - uninstalling the iPod drivers in Device Manager. After such an uninstall the ipod would automatically be recognised and "ready for use", i.e. being invisible in My Computer.
    - Attempted to find any possible third-party conflict with msconfig or the possibility that my ipod is being confused for a network drive (for which I've disconnected my HDD, leaving only my SSD with the OS).
Sometimes, iTunes would note that iPod service (or something, can't remember exactly) failed to install properly and asked to try and repair it. I would click YES! and voila - no change! The ipod would rarely show up in iTunes on my problematic computer like this:
iTunes would warn me that the nano would need restoring so I would try and do it on my haunted machine upon which iTunes would freeze like you seen in the picture.
Despite this, I've updated and restored the nano on my father's computer to the latest version without any problems. This though, did not solve my problem in any way.
I can load music to my nano through my old computer (which for me is a real pain and hassle) and the gadget works normally in terms of its disconnected functionality.
I've taken my nano to the local service for repair and they said it was fine. Mercifully, they didn't charge for the diagnostics service (gee, thanks for not ripping me off!).
Here are two screengrabs from my Device Manager
and Devices and Printers screens on my comp:
That is my sad story as far as I can remember. It's most likely something with the drivers or something along those lines though I'm out of ideas at this point.
If you think you have any idea PLEASR HELP, I'M DESPERATE!

  • Built-In iSight NOT RECOGNIZED after EFI Update 1.1

After updating to EFI 1.1 on my iMac 20 Inch (2,16Ghz) the built-in iSight-Cam is not
working anymore. It´s not showing up in the system profiler > USB Devices.
I bought the iMac last week, switched it on, the cam took a picture on the user account creation,
I applied the EFI-Update and OSX 10.4.8. After that the cam was gone.
I tried everything from resetting SMC, PRAM to reinstalling Combo-Update 10.4.8 ... NOTHING helped !
    Any ideas or solutions ???
P.S.: Sorry for my crappy English, I´m writing from Germany !

Here´s a report from MacFixIt.com about this problem:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20061211231332862
Built-in iSight not recognized Some users have reported loss of their built-in iSights after applying the iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.1. In some cases, this issue can be resolved by resetting the SMC (system management controller) using this process:
    1. From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
    2. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    3. Wait at least 15 seconds.
    4. Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time. Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
    5. Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.
Resetting PRAM can solve a variety of issues As mentioned in our coverage of recent EFI Firmware updates issued for other Macs, a number of potentially serious issues apparent after applying this EFI Firmware Update can be resolved by simply resetting PRAM/NVRAM via the following process:
Shut down your Mac, then start it back up while immediately holding the following keys: Command, Option, P and R. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
This workaround is a good first course of action before exploring more complex fixes. It should also be attempted if your system cannot properly startup after applying the update.

  • Presario CQ 71 - Built in Webcam not detected under Windows 7 Professional - No HP-101 device

I have a Compaq Presario CQ 71 EB400. On this notebook I run both Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits and  Windows  7 Professional 64-bits to compare behaviour of apps and windows features in both  environments.
Windows 7 Home on  my  HD C partition
Windows 7 Professional  on my HD F partition.
The CQ 71 has a built in Webcam, that shows up under Windows 7 Home premium Device Manager - Imaging Devices  (Cameras and Scanners)  as HP-101, linked to the required drivers.
    Under Windows 7 Home premium:
    - The built-in CQ 71 Webcam is detected and operational - the HP-101 entry is present in Device Manager.
    - Applications using a Webcam like Skype, Mycam, Manycom etc connect with the Webcam
    - When I  plug in an external Webcam,  thet webcam is detected as well, drivers loaded etc.
    Under Windows 7 Professional:
    - The built in Webcam is not detected, in the Device Manager -Imaging Devices, the HP-101 Webcam entry is absent
    - Skype, Mycam, Manycam cannot find a  Webcam (also not when an external USB Webcam is plugged in)
    - A plugged in external Web cam is not detected as an imaging device.
I use a Brother printer/scanner/fax machine,  the Brother scanner device is visible as Imaging device in Device manager in both Windows 7 Home premium and Windows 7 Professional.
Other USB devices, portable disks, card readers etc seem to work OK in both Windows 7 environments.
The HP support pages provide information what to do when a internal Webcam is not detected; The recommended actions make no difference.  Going back to a  previous W7 Prof restore point is no option,  as on the CQ 71 notebook the built-in Webcam  never functioned under W7 Professional.
The major difference is that all Windows 7 Home Premium relatede system software resides on the C partition, all Windows 7 Professional system software on the F partition.
I'm looking for a way to kickstart the built in CQ 71 Webcam under Windows 7 Professional installed  on a non-standard partition.
Your suggestions will be very welcome.
    Jan Dijckmeester.

    Hi again jdij,
It is good to hear back from you!
To enable your system to detect the Webcam in Windows 7, I recommend re-installing the original drivers and software that first came with your computer. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7). To update the newly installed software, please follow this resource on Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 7).
If the webcam is still not detected, I recommend returning your system back to a previous restore point. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7).
Should the problem continue, I suggest performing a backup and recovery of your operating system. This can be done by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7). This should return your system back to factory defaults.

  • Built-in iSight not working-black screen with every application

I have a MacBook laptop version 10.6.2 and just recently my built-in isight stopped working. i've had this laptop for about 2 years now and there have never been problems with the isight. i downloaded skype because i tried using ichat and my friends computer wouldn't video chat when i used ichat, but when i used skype it worked. so i've been using skype for about a month now... and just recently, i'd say like 2 weeks ago i went to use skype and the screen was completely black. the sound works, my friend said she could hear me she just couldn't see me. so i went into photo booth to see if the camera worked with that, and its a black screen on that app too! and when i take a picture it counts down like it normally would, but it doesn't even produce a picture, just a blank in the line of pictures at the bottom.. i also went into ichat and it has the same thing-black screen. i think the computer detects the camera, because it never said that it didn't... just the screen is always black.
just some other info.... when i go to use an application that uses isight, the green light on the right side of the camera lights up.. nothing else really happens though.
any information or diagnostic would be most appreciated!! thank you!

  • Built in iSight not working with Google chat?

    Hi all,
I recently updgraded to Mac OS X version 10.7.2 for my Intel based iMac.  Since then, the built in iSight camera does not work with Google Chat. It does work with iChat and Photobooth though.
I reistalled the Google chat plug in (or I guess I installed it again).  I ran a check, and my software updates are current.  I tried the power down, unplug the power cord, wait 15 seconds routine, and that didn't work either.
When I go in to Mail Settings in gmail, click Chat, and then Verify your Settings, I don't see anything in the window next to it - just black.
Does anyone have any good ideas to help?  Using google chat is just a lot more convenient for me than using iChat...
    Thanks!

    Hi,
For some time now the Google Web Browser Video Chat plug-in (Also and automatic part of Installing Chrome) has been an issue in relation to going to Video Chat sites that use the Flash Plug-in.
My Flash Plug-in in Lion is version 11.1 r102
I don't have the Google one so I could not tell you the latest from them.
I am not sure that Google are moving very fast, if at all on this matter.
It could be as soon as either Flash makes an update it ruins the progress Google have made.

  • Built-in iSight Not Working After Re-format

I just reformatted and reinstalled Mac OS X and applied all the system updates that were downloaded. Computer is working great. When I went to use iChat and Photobooth, it says my iSight is not connected or in use by another program.
How can I get it working again? It was a fresh install of the OS. Do I need any drivers?

    Hello JCrew7384
I doubt that reinstalling the OS will be needed or helpful, and you do not need to add any "drivers" for use in OS X. If you decide to try an OS reinstall, my thoughts on Reinstalling Mac OS X are in this linked page. After you reinstall using your system installer disk, you can use the Combo Updater linked below to update to the latest version (10.4.10 v1.1 for iNtel) of OS X in one step.
Unless you get better suggestions from iNtel Mac users, here are some common solutions that help most iNtel Mac users avoid a visit to their Apple Service Technician for the "camera not connected" problem.
None of the following suggestions is complicated, but the only way to find which one will work for you is to try them one-by-one until you find the one that fixes your Mac.
Disconnect all unnecessary peripherals while trying these suggestions.
    (0) If you did not repair permissions after your OS X reinstall, do so now and check your iSight again. (Click here if you need help.)
    (1) Restart your Mac. Sometimes that is all that is required.
    (2) If you use VMware Fusion to run Windows on your Mac, consider disconnecting iSight from your Virtual Machine as recommended by user "The.VCI" in this post.
    (3) If you use an HP printer/scanner with your Mac, consider the "daemon" suggestions from user "parkersal" in this post.
    (4) Check for any running applications, Login Items, or widgets that can use your iSight. (It is easy to forget widgets like Mirror in your Dashboard.) As explained in Apple's iSight "Your camera is in use by another application  message, iSight can be used by one application at a time.
    (5) Try every suggestion re: Built-in iSight in How to Troubleshoot iSight. Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific".
Click here if you need help creating a new user account to check whether your problem is "user-specific" during Troubleshooting.
    (6) If resetting or the other troubleshooting suggestions do correct your problem, try the following:
    - Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    - Even if you have previously repaired permissions, do it again immediately prior to performing the next step. (Click here if you need help.)
    - Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update v1.1 (iNtel).
    - Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.
    (7) A few iNtel Mac laptop users have also reported success after unplugging their Macs and leaving the battery out for half-an-hour to overnight.
    (8) If none of these suggestions help, I suggest that you take your iMac to your Apple-Authorized Service Provider for a professional check.
If you need to post back for more info, please tell us why you decided to reinstall OS X. Were you, and are you still, having any unexplained problems with your Mac other than this iSight issue?

  • Built in iSight not working after Lion install

First I thought it was iglasses which I removed. I then unplugged my secondary Logitech cam; but still I can't get any image from the Built in iSight Camera after my Lion install.
It shows up as a USB peripheral in the mac System Profiler. What gives?
    Thanks

Hi, i read this very useful post to undestand why my iSight camera won't work under Quicktime video recorder, on Mac OS X Lion 10.7.2. I was sure it worked in the past, and for example Photo Boot works, Skype works but not Quicktime. I tried the reset pause, and anything happens. Solution for me was the idea of disconnect some USB peripherical. It was my external audio card for me, a Focusrite Scarlett 8i6 audiocard. It starts to work immediately. If i reconnect the audio card after the working window in Quicktime, it seem to continue to work in a perfect way, but if i close and reopen Quicktime iSight still blocked. Very strange, anyway i just can make it start when i need. I hope this will be useful to others.

  • Built-In iSight Not Recognized / Not Working

I am having a lot of trouble getting my iMac G5 Intel Core Duo machine to recognize that it has a built-in iSight camera.
I tried running photo booth and it tells me: "[N]o camera is attached or the camera is in use by another application." However, I am not running any other application that could be using the camera.
Also, iChat AV says "There is no camera attached to this computer."
What is going on???? How can I fix this?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, js26
If you have tried all relevant suggestions in Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight, and if the OS X System Profiler still does not show built-in iSight as a USB Device as in this picture:
contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service. An AASP can tell you what's wrong after he looks at it.
If your Mom's Mac "Looks like windows" to you, it may be running Windows via VMware Fusion. If she uses VMware Fusion to run Windows on her Mac, consider disconnecting iSight from the Virtual Machine as recommended by user "The.VCI" in this post.
If you can make Windows work on your Mom's Mac but have problems with its OS X, her OS X System software may be damaged. Consider Reinstalling Mac OS X.

  • Help!!!  Built in iSight Not Functioning on Brand New 24" iMac

I just purchased an iMac 24" 2.16 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor computer, and the built-in iSight camera will not function.
The store that I bought the computer from, informed me prior to purchase that several previous customers experienced the same problem, and that I should return to the store should I experience the same thing.
Is there a software fix for this????
Is there a preference fix for this???

As stated. I followed the Apple Support webpage instruction listed below. Still no success. My isight will not function with any other application (ie. iChat, iMovie, PhotoBooth, etc...)\
G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
    1. See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
    2. See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
    3. Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    4. Reset SMC or PMU Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
