Built-in Macbook camera not working

Before anything, im sorry because i dont speak english very well.
I read that im not the unique that have this problem.
My camera doesnt work either.
I tried to open Photo Booth but a window says "there is no connected camera or its being used by another application".
I just recovering my macbook after 1 month to be in service because the top case was broken. I supposed that the camera problem also was going to be fixed, but it wasnt.
I love Macs, I have had two more, but this time i am very disappointed.
I have read that in the USA fixes the problem of the top case in 1 hour, and I had to wait for 1 month because im in Mexico.
Also I had to buy the extended guarantee because I have had many problems with this computer (its the second time that changes the top case! because the first time had discolouration)
I already have the new top case (very white unlike the area around the screen because I DONT KNOW WHY that part cannot be changed)
But i still have the problem of the camera, somebody can help me? or can say me what i must do?
Thanks!

If the basic things like resetting the PRAM don't work then all you can do is send it in again and make sure you tell them about ALL of the problems you have. If they havent been told that your camera isnt working then they would probably only be looking to fix what you told them was wrong.
I had to send my macbook in for the random shutdown problem. I made a point of typing up a detailed list of the problems i have had with the machine and left the document in the middle of my desktop. I also removed the background image so the document which I labelled 'Problems with this Macbook' was easy for the engineer to spot.

If you like the Mac you have and need the built-in camera, spend the money.
If you want a different computer, now is a good time to trade.
If cost is a concern, consider a Mac compatible external camera. Take your MacBook Air to the store when you shop, and try the external camera you want to be certain that it works before you buy.

  • Built in isight camera not working with flash

My built in isight camera on my macbook works just fine in photobooth and in skype or ichat.. but just in the past week or so, it will not work when im on websites that use flash. I've seen some threads that say that I need to go into settings and make sure that the camera chosen is the USB. When i go into flash settings, the only options are Google1, Google2, or Built in isight. It doesn't work with any of them. Does anyone have any idea how I can make it work again?

Your problem is not the same as that posted by the OP, and your system info shows you using Mac OS X (10.5.6).
For your symptoms with this system, I suggest you do the following:
    (1) Apply the 10.5.8 Combo Update using the following process:
      • Backup your Mac and turn off Time Machine
      • Disconnect peripherals and restart Mac
      • Use Disk Utility to repair permissions
      • Download and install
       http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
      • Repair permissions again immediately following the restart that finishes the update.
      • Test whether Flash works for you now.
(• Turn Time Machine on later when you are satisfied that the update worked.)
    (2) After applying the 10.5.8 Combo, if you are still having problems, download and install the latest Flash player compatible with your system:
      http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/otherversions/
Also check any other third-party browser plugins or other add ons. Apply all available updates and uninstall any third-party items that are known to be incompatible with your system.

  • Built In Video Camera not working

I used my Video Camera to Skype about 2 days ago. And now I cannot Skype, or use my You Cam. It says things like "Camera not detected." I've updated Skype, and You Cam, and everything else. The white light turns on when I try to use my video camera as well.

    @sotrpls2 ,
Thank you for posting back with your notebook information.
here is a link to a video for getting access to the webcam.  You are going to have to check the connection cable to make sure it has not come off if it is still connected then you will have to replace the webcam.

  • Pavilion dv2000 built in web cam not working

    Hi, all-
I have recently discovered that my webcam no longer works and am wondering if this is due to a recent repair in the hard drive and motherboard this summer? I thought that maybe all it was missing were the drivers from the O/S having to be completely restored but I just downloaded the correct driver from the hp support site and then restarted the computer and the webcam still isn't apparent in the device manager. Where did it go??
Any and all help is certainly most welcome as I'd like to get back to Skype-ing.
    Thanks!

Goto Contol Panel -> Device Drivers
Look for a listing called 'Imaging Devices'
If it's there (probably not, since it's not working), that is your webcam (mine is a Simplo Webcam).
If not, look under the USB Devices, near the bottom of the list.
Once you've found your webcam, view its properties by double-clicking it (or highlight it and select Action ->Properties from the top menu bar).
You can try disabling/re-enabling it to see if it works.  This didn't work for me.
Rollback the driver.  Now see if it works.  ( worked for me).
The original driver was by Sonix.
After rollback, the driver is by PCT, and now it works.
Also, I recommend ZVRS over skype.

  • MacBook built-in iSight camera not working

My camera seems to have died... After reading other posts and the apple doc here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93240 I've tried pretty much everything. There are no lights on, applications don't see it, doesn't work with a different user, system profiler doesn't see it. The first time I zapped the PMU it came back and worked briefly, but hasn't worked since, and subsequent PMU resets have not done anything.
Of course, this started about a week or two after the 1 year warranty ran out, and I had forgotten to get applecare extended. Oops.
My question is this: is there anything I can do short of taking it to Apple service? Is there any likelihood that it could just be a loose cable and if so how hard is it to take apart the MacBook (I am technically inclined). Or is it most likely going to require a logic board replacement... hundreds of $$ I'm guessing.

    Hello Smersh
If the suggestions offered here do not get you a fix, and if you have tried all the other applicable suggestions in http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93240 without success, it sounds to me like you need to try the last one, too, (contact Apple or your Apple Authorized Service Provider.)
You may be right that the fix will be minor and may not take long, but there are no user serviceable parts of iSight. Have it fixed by an AASP. As part of his diagnostic review, the AASP's technician will determine whether a logic board is required. If you are concerned about cost or repair time, you can ask the AASP for a cost and time estimate before any repair work starts.

  • Built in web cam not working. help!

I currently have a Macbook pro with Mac OS X (10.6.4) and for some reason the webcam will not let me see myself. I have had chats with both Skype and through ichat with video working but i can only see the other party. For some reason I can't see myself. Any thoughts or suggestions. If i can't figure it out soon I'll have to take it to the apple store to see what they can do.
    Thanks!

Can you see yourself with PhotoBooth ? If so then it's just the settings/configuration on the other software you're using that's the issue ...
If not then it could be a hardware problem and Apple need to take a look.

    HI,
Go to the Apple icon menu and hold the ALT key down whilst doing so.
Select System Profiler (it changes when and if you hold the ALT key down)
IN the System Profiler open up the Hardware > USB option
Does this list the camera ?
If not then do a SMC/PMU reset (the model Specific bits are at the bottom)
If it does appear then Log in a different Mac User Account (You may need to create one in System Preferences > Accounts)
Do those same Apps "see" the camera now ?

  • Old macbook pro3,1 (2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo) camera not working with Mavericks

I have an old macbook pro3,1 (2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo, I think 2007), builtin camera not working and I think it is related to mavericks update.
Anyone had the same problem, and if yes what is the solusion?

Try these in order testing your system after each to see if it's back to normal:
    1. a. Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
        b. Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    2. Restart the computer in Safe Mode, then restart again, normally. If this doesn't help, then:
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the
computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager
screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    3. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).
    4. Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
Reinstall the 10.9.2 update: OS X Mavericks 10.9.2 Update (Combo).

  • Macbook Pro 17" - My built in speakers are not working.

    Macbook Pro 17"
My built in speakers are not working.
The speaker logo is not highlighted (grey not Black) and when in sound options  "output" pane only displays the digital out for 'optical' - ie, the internal speakers dont register (headphone socket works)
    Any ideas?

    1. If red light is visible in the headphone port, plug the headphone into and out of the port 5 or 6 times
to flip the microswitch inside the port. Hopefully that will make the mode revert back to analog from digital.
    2. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    3. Reset SMC.   http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
         Choose the appropriate method.
Hope any one of these steps helps.

  • Macbook pro camera not working -- very bad support

I have a macbook pro bought around October 2010. It has 3 years international warranty.
Few months back when I wanted to use skype, I figured out that the camera is not working. Took it to Apple care centre in Bangalore.
They found the camara to be defective. From their notes
" Reset SMC and PRAM. No go. Tried with known good OS. No go. Found camera not detected in system profiler. Checked with known good display. Camera working. Denied coverage as dent on the display clamshell"
Chatted with the relationship officer Joana,
    1. I fail to understand that replacing the camera requires relplacing the whole display
    2. Small scrach (can send the picture to you) on the outer cover of teh display is not the root cause of the camera not working
    3. Display is working perfectly fine. Only camera not working
The relationship officers are such dumb and techically challenged people, that they fail to understand the real issue and instead just try to console you.
If camera is not working due to a defect, it needs to be replaced in warranty, if Apple's design dictates camera replacemnt to the whole display replacement, so be it.
Due to my feedback, some of my colleges (10+ guys) took Macbook pro. Extreamely dis-satisfied with the support cell and their techical abilities. Did not expect this from Apple. Will not take any Apple product and will not recommend anyone. Thinkpad rocks!!
