Built in Mail application - GMail - secure?

Hi All,
I'd like to ask if I use the built-in mail application with the built-in Gmail account; If I connect to an open (unsecure) WIFI, is this communication secure? Does the built in account uses any security feature?
Basically is it safe to use it on open WIFI connections?
Thanks
Gergo

However, if the phone is using SSL/TLS (encryption) over an open/public Wi-Fi network, then the data is not going in clear text.
Google supports it for GMail, but I'm not sure if the iPhone does.

  • Has Anybody Built A Mailing Application Using JavaMail?

I have a free mail server, the Apache James, installed in my machine and have tried the JavaMail tutorial examples at
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/onlineTraining/JavaMail/exercises/MailSetup/help.html
I am working on a web site that features messages communication among registered members of the site - something similar to personal HOTMAIL/YAHOO e-mail boxes. And I have been looking for an example to follow.
I would greatly appreciate if I could be directed to people with such an experience. My e-mail address is [email protected]
    Thank you.

I'm also interested in hearing if other people have used James and JavaMail to implement something like this.
Can you post in here if you have. In particular:
    - was it easy to setup users and distribution groups using the Java API
    - how many users is it capable of supporting
    - what are the tradeoffs of using local files vs. database
    - what are the limitations you have found with matchers/mailets
Please share the experiences you have had with James!

  • GMail issues on iPhone built in mail app

    Hi all,
Not sure if this is a Gmail / iPhone Mail-wide issue, but hoping it is.
I have an iPhone 4 (original) with iOS 7.1.  Today, my built-in mail app had issues receiving mail, got some kind of 'cannot connect to Gmail IMAP' error most of the day.  It now seems to be able to connect, but my inbox has become frazzled.  I can basically only see the two most recently received messages.  Every other message I can see in my inbox is an e-mail I have sent (in the list below the two most recent messages I've received).  I can't see any of the other messages I've received, scrolling down the list only shows the ones I've sent.  It's driving me nuts!  I have removed my Gmail account and re-added it, same problem.  I've logged into Gmail on the web and everything looks fine, I've even checked on my computer via the Apple Mail app and it all looks alright.  Just the iPhone mail...not sure what is up.
Any ideas?  Hoping some other people have experienced a similar issue!
    Thanks.

Any ideas, guys?  I had a similar issue on iOS 6 but the move to iOS 7 fixed it.
Yesterday, I moved a whole bunch of e-mails from my Gmail archive (on the web interface) to my inbox.  Now my Mail app on iPhone is missing a whole chunk of my e-mails....not sure how to fix this!
Any advice would be most appreciated.  Thanks.
EDIT: I should add, when I cycle to the All Mail folder, I can see everything as normal...but the inbox in the Mail app is missing all e-mails from before yesterday evening, choosing to show only those that are from months ago (and even then, they're just ones I've sent, all the received ones are missing).

If you've activated 2-step verification, you need to generate an application-specific password in your Google account and enter it instead of the login password you use on the website.

I am trying to set up gmail with POP and every time I do I cannot receive any emails although I can send emails out from my mail application with gmail-any ideas as to why I cannot receive emails would be appreciated... or can I ask an apple technician about this problem?

Did you follow the directions given at Gmail on how to set-up?
Let us know the setting from preferences/accounts so we can see if anything is incorrect. Frequently it is needing to have the server port changed. Mine is at 587, and all is working fine. Feel free to hide the info you prefer not to share, an example "username"@gmail.com.

  • Gmail account "Inactive" on Mail Application

    Hi all,
My Gmail is 'inactive' on the mail application. I had tried to send a few emails and there would be an error message popping up saying there was an issue with my account, so I deleted the account (pressed the minus button) then re-added it to see if that would fix the issue. It now displays that my Gmail account is inactive.
    Thanks,
    JK

    Hello two quick suggestions:
do you have issues logging in to www.gmail.com ?
when you recieve the "inactive"  warning, do you have the option to click [take all accounts online]? Does that solve anything?

  • Does GMail Labels (Folders) Propogate to the iMac Mail Application?

When I create new labels or folders on my GMail web page these folder appear on my iPhone mail app. They don't however show up on my iMac mail application, which is set up with the same GMail account. I have IMAP enabled. How can I get these folders to mirror on the GMail server, iMac mail and iPhone mail?

you have to enable the labels to show in imap from gmail webmail interface (settings->labels). then they will show up in the imap section of Mail.

  • I just purchased my I MAC, and set up my aol and gmail to the desktop icon.  After deleting some messages tonight, I tried to shut down from the menu and received the message "Shutdown canceled because mail application is still open"--icon not working.

I just purchased this IMac yesterday, and set up my two email accounts to the mail icon today.   This evening, after deleting some messages, I was not able to open the mail icon nor shutdown, restart, or log off the computer from the menu.  I keep receiving the message "shutdown canceled by mail application".  Really frustrating.

Press Alt, Command and Esc keys to open Force Quit. Then, on the window that will show up, choose Mail and close it. Finally, you will be able to turn off your iMac

  • TS1506 I have a problem opening some email attachments. They will not open in the mail application on an IPad Air

I recently upgraded from an iPad 1 to an Air. One of its main uses is to avoid printing volumes of papers for meetings, so the abilty to open attachments with mail is pretty important.
There are some attachments that will not open in the mail application on an iPad Air. Some in the same format do (docx). They do open in Mail on my MacBook, and iPad1, or if I go to webmail on any device including a Blackberry, so it is not a file corruption problem.  The problem persists on different networks. Other emails from the same sender do work. It seems to be specifically related to IOS 7 or the Mail app. Quickview won't work, nor will opening with a range of Apps which report a file error.
There was an historical problem with Apple garbling pdf files, but this is a new one on me.
All this is a shame because it is opening emails in attachments that was one of my main reasons for buying an Air.
Does anyone know of the cause? A solution?
