Built in Microphone not working - Windows 8 - Edge E430

Hey Guys,
My built in microphone was working correctly until a few days back. I made no updates or system setting changes. It's a ThinkPad Edge E430 with Windows 8. The required audio drivers are in place. I have also enabled the microphone from audio settings. Please refer image below.
Can some one guide me on what else I can do? Will be grateul as all my Skype calls are blocked becuase of this.
Thank you,
Hariharan.

Hi again, Hariharan
If you right-click on the first selection in the image (the microphone) and select Properties, you should be able to see the driver in formation on the Driver tab in the new window. Can you list the driver Provider, Date, and Version? Also, how long have you had the machine, and how long was the microphone working properly before this issue began?
Thanks in advance,
Adam

My Aspire 5750-6438 built in microphone not working. My OS is windows 7 64-bit. I have updated all the driver. Built in microphone is not even recognized in the sound setting.

    welly267,
Go into the device manager and check to see if there is a yellow or red icon next to your built-in microphone. If there is a red one, it's probably disabled, see if you can enable it. If it is yellow, right click to uninstall it, then restart your notebook to see if it installs correct and starts working. Look through these steps if it does start showing up in the sound manager.
If it does not, you can try to remember when it worked last and try a system restore. If you cannot remember, you might have a hardware problem or can try to perform a recovery as a last resort to see if that solves it.

    Model Name: SATELLITE A200-1A9
    Model NO: PSAE0E-01S025AV

I install Windows 7 on my laptop and the built in microphone stopped working. Tried everything suggested on all posts for not woking built in microphone and still I am not able to record any voice or to use Skype, etc.
When going to 'Recording Devices' I have two Microphones (one front and one ATAPI), but the green bar on the right does not move when making sound. I tried disabling the front microphone, still no success.
    Any help will be appreciated!

    Hi Dokie,
I scan my pc with a Device Manager and it showed these results. Some of the drivers are not correctly installed I guess and these are the Realtek driver and the Chicony camera driver. Do you think this might be the reason?
    Thanks

  • Re: Portege R700-184 - Built in microphone not working

I can't seem to get the built in microphone to work. However, it works fine with an external usb microphone.
Have tried changing the settings in the control panel called 'Sound' where I click on the 'Recording Tab'. 'Microphone' shows a green tick as the default device. Strangly, the graduated bar to the right of the microphone, sometimes shows random green activity, but nothing which relates to any sounds I make at the time. Driver is working and up to date.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

    Hey,
    >Driver is working and up to date.
What driver you mean exactly? Hopefully not the sound driver because it has nothing to do with internal microphone. It belongs to webcam so you should reinstall/update the webcam driver.
    Check this!!!

  • ThinkPad internal microphone not working - Windows 8.1

    Hello everyone,
I'm back on this forum because I had another issue... See my first one : http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T440p-camera-not-working-windows-8-1/m-p/18...
There was a problem with the cable between the camera/microphone combo card and the daughter card. Now the camera is working properly. A technician replaced the cable.
But I realized that my internal microphone is not working. I don't remember if it worked once...
My microphone is not muted, and I reinstalled the real-teck drivers. When I try to use the "listen" option in the microphone properties, I here a sort of wideband noise (let's call it white noise).
Do you have any suggestions that might help?
    Thank you very much

    EDIT :  sorry I'm on Windows 8.1 not 7

  • Built-in microphone not working on Equium A300D

I have Toshiba Equium A300D 13X with vista 32-bit, I cant get the built in microphone to work.
All the speakers and the webcam seem to work and I have tried to update the drivers from this website but nothing fixes the mic problems.
    Can you help?

    Hi
Why are you sure that the internal microphone does not work?
    How did you test this?
The internal microphone belongs to the internal webcam.
You can increase the mic volume in webcam software settings.
Start webcam software -> settings -> audio tab
There you should increase the mic volume to max.
The option Audio Device should contain something like Microphone (Conexant High definition). Audio Compressor -> No compress

  • Microphone not working Windows 10

I have an Asus GL551 series laptop and I just upgraded to Windows 10. I have all updated drivers and I use Realtek HD Audio Manager. My microphone works except when on Skype, which before upgrading I had no issues. The microphone is working but the gain is very low, but my mic works fine on Google Hangouts, and other applications. I was able to fix it by going into control panel-communications-then set communication activity to "do nothing" when it was previously set to "reduce the volume of other sounds by 80%." It worked for a minute, but then the person on the other end couldn't hear me anymore. The settings were still the same from when I changed them. I've tried configuring my microphone, changing the boost, not having Skype automatically adjust microphone settings, uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, and Skype. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Satellite C650-010 - Built in microphone not working

built in microphone did not work after three weeks. I tried to install new driver software from Toshiba website, but did not help. External webcam with microphone works well.
Yesterday microphone worked for ten minutes but then mute again.

    Hey,
    > I tried to install new driver software from Toshiba website
What driver software you have installed?
The microphone belongs to internal webcam so you have to reinstall the webcam driver if internal microphone doesnt work properly.
    > but then mute again.
Does this mean the internal microphone is muted? Please check the Windows sound settings if the microphone is listed properly under recording devices and set as default device.

  • Toshiba Satellite E45t-B4300 built in microphone not working

    Greetings,
Today I bought the Toshiba Satellite E45t-B4300. I was trying to use the built in microphone and it is not functioning. The video recorder appears to work fine. After searching around, I decided to download the most recent drivers from toshiba. I uninstalled the old audio device and installed the new drivers. After this process, the microphone still does not function. (Yes, I rebooted, and all standard good practices ) It appears to be listed in the recording devices and enabled. When I try to set it up, it does not detect any audio. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Oh it also runs Windows 8.1.
    Thank you.

  • Tecra Z50-A-181- built in microphone not working/not found

    Hi there!
I have recently purchased Toshiba Tecra Z50-A-181 laptop that came with Windows 7 64 bit (have 8.1, too but never installed it).
Anyways, once I started using it, I have discovered that the built in microphone is not working or not recognized at all.
So, what happens is that, once I plug in my headphones into the combined audio/mic jack, whoever I am talking to (on skype, let's say) stops hearing me (and my camera is turned on).
I have tried several things mentioned in other topics, however, the problem does not go off. Moreover, there is no driver for the camera or the built in microphone, or whatever.
In the device manager there is no additional device, not recognized and in the sound/recording options, no other microphone to use is shown.
I will appreciate it if anybody can help.
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi, Liam.
    I have solved the issue.
Turned out,the combo audio jack has its minuses.
For the ones who might experience my issue, here is what I've discovered:
The new laptop's combined audio with a microphone jack can be used as such only with a headset with a microphone or a handsfree (which also has a microphone, as we all know) due to the fact they have 3.5 mm 4 pole plug.
If you plug in a normal headphones (ones without a microphone), your internal microphone is listening to the plug...but since there is no microphone on it, you cannot skype properly or use your internal microphone.
    So, you have 2 options:
    1. To use your handsfree earplugs or a headset with a microphone
    2. To buy an audio splitter that will divide the combo jack into 2 separate ones - for a mic and headphones and then be able to use your standard headphones and internal microphone together, when needed.
I hope I will be helpful to someone else like me, who is also wondering why Toshiba made such a combo jack...actually, turns out it was simply to ease up the common user...obviously, not me
If anybody has anything else to add, please do so.
If not, thank you either way!

  • Built-in Microphone not working on G60-445dx running XP SP3

    PLEASE HELP!
After downgrading to XP using this guide, and later this guide... I still cannot get the built-in microphone working.
I have the NVIDIA HD Audio driver v. 1.0.0.59 installed as well as the Conexant HD SmartAudio Driver v. 3.49.4.51. After installing and reinstalling these again and again in different orders I still have the same results: Speakers work, headphones work, plug-in microphone works, but BUILT-IN microphone is not even recognized in the system.
    What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your guys' suggestions. I finally got my built-in mic to work in Boot Camp with Windows XP Pro XP2 on my MBP 2.5Ghz 15" with OS 10.5.2.
    Go to:
    1. Task bar and double click on the volume (little speaker) icon
    2. Master volume control panel pops up, click Options and Properties
    3. Mixer Device: Realtek HDA Primary input
    4. Check off Mic Volume, click OK
    5. Mic Volume control panel pops up. Check off Select and max out the volume
    6. Click Advanced, and check off 1 Microphone Boost
    Thanks again.

  • After my iPad 2 upgraded to IOS 5.0.1, built in Microphone not working

Just what I said, my iPad 2 upgraded to IOS 5.0.1 from IOS 5 on last week, the built in microphone is not working anymore, I can't record the video with sound, and called my friends with Facetime, they can't heard my voice.  Then I already restored IOS 5.0.1 for a few time and built in microphone is still not working. Does anyone iPad 2 has the same issue after using IOS 5.0.1?  And anyone can help me to fix this?  Thx.

I've read other posts about this, and while it seems an odd coincidence, you likely have a faulty microphone.  On the right hand side you'll see similar posts.  The majority of people who all of the sudden had mic's that wouldn't work after updating, wound up getting their iPads replaced at the Genius Bar at their local Apple Store.  You could try rebotting, by pressing and holding BOTH the home and power buttons at the SAME time for at least 10 seconds (ignore the red slider to shut down) until the Apple Logo appears, then let go fo both buttons and your iPad will restart.  If that doesn't work, I would not recommend restoring.  Instead, make an appointment at the Apple Store and if found defective it will be replaced.  Do remember to create a backup before going.  It will make setting up a new device exactly as you had it, much much simpler.
