Built-in or open source AudioPlayer in Flex 4.5

Is there an AudioPlayer, similar to VideoPlayer, that has built-in buttons (play, stop, pause, ...), progress bar, volumn control...?

  • PHP open source xmlServer for Flex

As an avid developer in Flex, I found it tedious to have to
manually type out the XML results based on my PHP query statement.
    ugh!
This is VERY time consuming especially when you are building
LARGE scale sites that could use upwards of 100+ php files for the
    application.
So I wrote a PHP class file that will automatically generate
the returned XML results based on the query statment, all nicely
formatted that gets returned back to Flex, or any application that
    uses XML.
1 PHP file with as little as 5 lines of code to get the XML
results of your query! You can basically copy, paste the file &
modify the query statement to use for a different unique query.
If anyone is interested in beta testing this puppy and
providing feedback, please email me, [email protected] I
would like to get this released out to the public asap. I'm sure
    others have been
in the same situation as myself, needing to speed up
    development time.

    Excuse me,
but with AMF3 being open now and amfPHP and WebORB supporting
that (possible other in PHP), why would you use XML??
XML is really slow compared to AMF3...

  • We have build a nice Flex BI front end and want to open-source it would this be useful to the group?

Hello, I am the CEO of DataRoket (www.dataroket.com) and we are a data integration and analytics platform.  As part of our effort, we have built a really nice data visualization and reporting package.
Since this is not our core business and we want to give back to the community and also see it continue to evolve, we are going to open source the Data Visualization module of data roket.
You can look at the application by going to www.dataroket.com.  If we did this, we would like to get some people to work on this and use it freely for your clients etc.
I want to know two things please:
    1. is this interesting and would it be useful to the community
    2. Are there people that would like to continue to push this capability and shepard the open source effort with us?
Thanks in advance for your feedback

I like the idea of open source.  Have you considered adding a demo/dummy Flex
app to your website for a fictional business.  Just to show your capabilities.

  • Open Source Flex based framework for E-Learning...

Just wanted to let people on this forum know that there is an open source e-learning framework developed in Flex 3 available on http://www.gyatum.org. This framework has been named CrashCourse. It is in its preliminary stage at the moment but has the potential for expansion.

Most app servers have some built in container managed security (for example Tomcat Realms) which may or may not meet your requirements.

  • How to install open source Flex SDK in Eclipse 3.3 ?

Iam currently workin on UBUNTU 10.04 OS
    I have downloaded flex_sdk_4.1.0.16076.zip
How to install open source Flex SDK in Eclipse 3.3 ?
    Thanks in advance,
    Jai.

    Hi Jai!
I'm not sure about this information because the last time I have used the flash builder into a linux machine was in 2007, but check this out:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flex/flexbuilder_linux/
It says you will need to use SDK from the command line to build flex application.

  • How Open source Flex looks to a mid level developer

Here is my response to a post Matt made on a blog:
    THe whole post:
    http://blog.simb.net/2009/01/19/take-flex-back-for-the-community/
    @Matt
1st off thanks, now my input:
The crux of your criticism seems to be that the process that we use for decision-making is closed its certainly not how we feel
Unfortuntly, this seems like a case of bad commuication by Adobe and the Flex team. If notable community experts get the impression of closed doors, then *certainly* the rest of us get this impression as well.
but there has been very little participation from the community so far
Im a solid dev, and not an expert but I can contribute in things such as testing and low level optimization; But, the Adobe open source site is a galactic disaster and discourages me from getting invloved. It has so many webpages that just go around in circles - filled with text that is verbose, this frustrates me to a great deal. As opposed to somehting straight foreward like:
    http://framework.zend.com/download/latest
    or
    http://code.google.com/p/papervision3d/
Everything is here and easily notable. I avoid the seamingly endless pages and confusion. If I want to get to the Flex dev mailing list I have to register, then choose the lists, add the lists to my account. go though my account prefs read some directions.. then set up some other preferences..jeeeezzzz. If I want to submit a feature request I am directed to create another login for some Bug and Issue management? HUH? I thought I was submitting a featue request.
Right on papervisions google HOME page I see Getting started > Papervision3D Mailing List.
Next when I finially do get to Flex SVN, this trunk. is nothing like I have seen.what IS all this stuff and where do I go to learn about it? There are countless subfolders filled with things I vaguely understand and if I want to learn what it is. where do I go? Is there even a src folder?
    Here is a classic example.
    Flex trunk Read Me:
    http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/flex/sdk/trunk/README.txt
    vs.
    Zend Trunk Read me:
    http://framework.zend.com/svn/framework/standard/trunk/README.txt
*What* is the Flex team thinking with this?
I just spent 5 minutes or so twirling through all these SVN directories and Adobes website and I am clueless. I feel like the project is unessarily complex and disorganized - even if it isnt. This just convinced me to delete my Flex sdk bookmark on my SVN client.
Adobe just lost one potential contributor to Flex SDK.
We have another idea that were bouncing around that I hope to share in a week or two but wont get into now.
Saying stuff like this is what gives people the impression of closed. Why not post these ideas the Flex team has? Even if it is stupid or incomplete
    Thats the whole point.

Wow, thanks for your response. This is great.<br /><br />I now understand that I had a combination of prejudice and ignorance  <br />when regarding Adobe Open Source. Perhaps my ignorance on these  <br />particulars is something that other devs encounter ( that whole  <br />perception thing ).   I have chatted with people who consider the Flex  <br />SDK and Flex Builder... not the same... but fused together so much  <br />that it'd be just crazy to try and use one with out the other   When I  <br />mention using Flex without Flex Builder.... people get that glazed  <br />over look in their eyes....( FYI I'm a FDT man, but am keeping a close  <br />eye on the new Flex Builder )<br /><br />I'll use Zend as an example ( it's the best that I can come up with )  <br />but I feel like there is a difference between the open source  <br />framework and Zend Studio ( commercial software ). Anyway, I'm really  <br />excited about how you've responded to all this.  I have more ideas,  <br />but Ill sit on them and think it through and get ready for next weeks  <br />meeting.<br /><br />Thanks,<br /><br />Alan<br /><br /><br />On Jan 23, 2009, at 1:31 AM, Matt Chotin wrote:<br /><br />> A new message was posted by Matt Chotin in<br />><br />> General Discussion --<br />>  How Open source Flex looks to a mid level developer<br />><br />> I've delayed responding to this because frankly I'm not sure what to  <br />> say for much of it.  The first thing I have to point out is that  <br />> many of the things you mention are related to Flex Builder and not  <br />> the Flex SDK, which is the part that is open source. JLundan,
I want to thank you for responding to the thread I started on the forum at java.sun.com. Your solution to my problem of needing to print the code of the html pages that the file I included generates was just what I was looking for. However, I have some further questions to ask, if you don't mind. To clarify my task I should say that your rephrasing of the problem is accurate: "You wan't to display the contents of the HTML file that the web server produces in response of client's request?"
Yes, this is what I need to do, but also it needs to display the source code of that html file that the server produces in response to the client's request. Also, in this case, I am the client requesting that the server return some html file, and I'm not sure where the server is. But the webserver.java file that I shared on the forum is on my local machine. I was wondering if I could modify this webserver.java file at my home so that any html file the server returns to me would automatically display the source code. This is a school project of mine and I am stuck on this one thing here.
Further, where would I put the "foo.html" file so it can be written to?
    FileOuputStream fos = new FileOutputStream("foo.html");
    fos.write(bytes);
    fos.close();
Thanks so much for your help. I look forward to your response, at your convenience.
    Regards

  • Open source debugger for Flash, Flex and AIR

As developers at De Monsters we weren’t totally happy
with the current Flash, Flex or AIR debuggers out there. So we
decided to create our own debugger called De MonsterDebugger. Today
we’ve got a great new version that we want to share with the
    community for free.
    Interface
    screenshot
De MonsterDebugger started out as an internal tool that
helped us with the development of different ActionScript 3
projects. The past several months we’ve been working on a new
version of this internal tool. With this new version you can
explore your live application, adjust properties and run methods
all at runtime. You can trace objects of any type (String, Array,
XML or even custom classes) to De MonsterDebugger and it will show
the complete structure of that object in an easy-to-read tree
structure. De MonsterDebugger is made with Adobe Flex and brought
to the desktop with Adobe AIR.
Because De MonsterDebugger isn’t our core business
we’re giving it away for free! All the sourcecode is open
source available under the GNU General Public license.
    Enough talking!

  • Are the Flex Ant tasks open source? If so, where to find them?

I took a brief look into Flex SDK source and didn't see the Flex Ant tasks. Is this also open source? Where would I find it?
I probably won't change anything, just want to take a look. Although, I'm annoyed that the tasks don't work in a similar fashion as the core ant tasks
    Thanks.

    http://opensource.adobe.com/svn/opensource/flex/sdk/trunk/modules/antTasks
Note that the way the tasks are put together ain't exactly pretty--they're just a very thin wrapper on mxmlc / compc / etc. There are some advantages to this approach, but if you're hoping to learn about the compiler options by looking at the task source, it could take some doing.

  • Flex Open Source SDK doesn't contain spark.wireframe skin or modules?

Hello, I am curious if the Flex Open Source SDK no longer contains the spark.wireframe skin. It is not located in frameworks/projects/spark/src/spark/skins where I would expect it to be.
Also, the documentation on this site specifies that a modules folder is to contain the sources necessary to build the jar files for the various command line tools. Is this longer included in the source distribution?

I still see it in there in its own project (frameworks/projects/wireframe).
The modules folder is the source for the compiler and other tools and is not included in the Open Source SDK.  It is included in the full Flex SDK.  Apache Flex should be receiving a copy of the source though.

  • Flex is open source, what about adobe flash?

    Hi all,
There is some confusion on our Flex team. We're aware of the
Flex announcement that Adobe intends to release Flex under the MPL
at some future date. Some of the developers on our team, however,
believe the Adobe Flash plugin in browsers such as Mozilla are open
source as well. After googling, I could not find any indication
that adobe Flash is open source. We're aware of Gnash, etc, but our
question relates specifically to Adobe Flash - is it open source or
has there been an announcement that Adobe intends to open source
Flash browser plugins? What, if anything, is open source concerning
    Flash?
    Thanks,
    iksrazal

Flash will not be open source.

  • Do you want to contribute to the Flex open source project?

We'd like to gauge community interest in contributing to the Flex open source project. Please take this 15 minute survey and be thorough in describing what your particular interests are. Please provide your contact information so that in the future we can reach out to you and keep you informed about our open source developments. We look forward to hearing from you!

    Hi daslicht,
im also very interrested to know the answer.
But im afraid they wont because it uses code from other proprietary tools.
And even if the community get flash catalyst source code, it will be useless (in a sens) mainly because the synergy with other Adobe Tools will not be maintained. And for me it was the main power of Flash Catalyst.
And knowing that, i think it is more easy for Apache community to create a new tool from scratch not linked to Adobe's tooling chain.
It could be a Flex app!!
For you information, the design view from Flash Builder has also been discontinued by Adobe. But in that case its a flex app incorporated in Flash Builder so theres good chances that Adobe will donate it to Apache community.
So why not use the design view as a base for a Flash Catalyst like tool? by making it a standalone tool or designers.

  • ActionScript 3 compiler, asc, is now open-source

In the latest nightly build of the Flex SDK is the as3
    compiler code!
The ActionScript 3 compiler, asc, is now open-source! Added
the source code for Flex 3's asc.jar, at
    branches/3.0.x/modules/asc. This code came from
ssh://asteam.macromedia.com/hg/asc-flex3 and is what built the
asc.jar that shipped with SDK 3.0.0.477, plus open-source copyright
changes. It requires Java 1.5 to build and is not integrated with
the build scripts for branched/3.0.x; this branch continues to have
    a prebuilt asc.jar in 'lib'.

PHPAMF is not an Adobe product and for this you did not find anything here.
Amfphp can properly serialize and deserialize complex types. In addition to objects and arrays, it supports resources from database connections, which means you can simply return mysql_query from your remote method and amfphp will know what to do with it. If the platform supports it (currently, Flash Remoting only), it can handle circular references and typed objects. It also supports simple remote debugging. Finally, amfphp comes with a service browser which allows you to test your services before creating a frontend.

  • @Adobe, do you intend to contribute Flash Catalyst as Open Source Project ?

    Hello,
in the recent Whitepaper* you write that you no longer develop Flash Catalyst.
Wouldnt it be great if you make it open source (contribute to Apache as well?)
or sell it to another developer so that it can be continued to be developed ?
I think many people will totally agree with this and would be happy to continue using
Flash Catalyst to visually built/prototype engaging GUI for the Apache Flex Framework.
    What do you think ?
    Best Regards
    Marc
    Flash Catalyst
Flash Catalyst CS5.5 is the last release of Flash Catalyst.
At this time, it will not be updated to work with Flex SDK 4.6 or any Apache Flex releases nor will it be included in future versions of the Adobe Creative Suite software offerings.
