Built-in Speakers do not work ?!

Hello everyone, this happened along time ago, but Apple said they would have to keep it for 6 weeks. No, I am sorry. I can't live without my mac for long. So, I knew I should ask questions about this issue. Ok, it all started as I purchased my mac from MacMall and the speakers were working for about 4 weeks. All of the sudden when I cut my mac on, I went to iTunes to hear some music and I couldn't hear anything. So I tried to set the volume on and everything and yes I checked if it was on mute and all that stuff. So I went to system preferences, Sound. There is nothing in my "Output." I've tried to search on the web for this kind of issue and it says to toggle a headphone cord or a toothpick in it. Also, there is a red light that lights up in the port when the headphones or nothing is inserted in there. So is there something I can do to get it fixed or is AppleCare the only thing that can fix it ? Ask me some question if you guys need to know ! Thank you so much !!

The likely cause is you've used a set of headphones or speakers whose plug is just enough out of spec to jam the MBP'a audio jack in the mode that makes the computer think they are still plugged in. Most people have reported that reinserting a plug and gently wiggling side to side will free the jammed contact. Others have reported sticking a non-metallic object in the jack and jimmying the contact. The latter makes me nervous, though.
I have a cheap audio patch cable that drives the speakers on my desktop Mac thought a small amp. I noticed today that, when I plug that line into the MBP (2.2G Santa Rosa 15") headphone jack, the plug lacks about 1-2mm of reaching the plug's "stop step." I have a pair of Sony headphones that fit flush (i.e., properly). It's likely that, should I push my patch cable plug too far, I could end up with the same problem.

My built in speakers are not working.
The speaker logo is not highlighted (grey not Black) and when in sound options  "output" pane only displays the digital out for 'optical' - ie, the internal speakers dont register (headphone socket works)
    Any ideas?

    1. If red light is visible in the headphone port, plug the headphone into and out of the port 5 or 6 times
to flip the microswitch inside the port. Hopefully that will make the mode revert back to analog from digital.

My 2009 13" macbook (late 2009) Intel Duo Core @2.26gb has no sound from built in speakers.  It does work through my headphones.  What can I do?

Resetting NVRAM as well as SMC could solve the problem.

  • Ipad2 built in speakers are not functioning ?

My built in speakers are not working for applications, However, I still can get the sounds thru the headphones..
Knowing that in sounds settings I still can hear the ringtones thru the speakers ??!!!
Is there any procedures to fix the built in speakers ?

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound. Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Output speakers do not work, have a red light coming out of my headph. jack

My headphone jack works but theres a red light coming out of my headphone jack when its unplugged and my internal speakers will not work...anybody have an idea? Tried system preferences and says no options for selected audio and cant get any sound for my built in output speakers and my volume display in my bar is faded....HELP!

    @Spencer
I know this thread was marked answered but thought I should chime in since my MBP (2.66Ghz Late '08, bought May '09) started to exhibit this behavior. I was getting "No Output" greyed out speaker images and the red light coming out from the headphone jack. It's been intermittent but finally wouldn't go away so I figured I'd contact Appe.
This afternoon I called Applecare and was advised to take it to the Apple store... no questions asked, no troubleshooting steps, just told me to take it to the store and even offered to make me an appt. I was able to get an appointment at the genius bar same day (literally 2 hours after I hung up the phone). My wife took a ride with me and we headed down there.
When I showed the technician she tested it and then went to the back room to double check something. When she came back she told me that it was hardware related and needed to be sent in for service. I am under warranty so it was no skin off my back but I will need to be without the machine for a few days.
I agree with Rod to take it in, esp. if you're still under warranty. I should also mention that this only started happening a few weeks ago but the red light part was rather sudden.
    Good luck!

  • My built in speakers arn't working

Hello, Just looking for some advice.
I have just had a new hard drive fitted into my mac book as the previous one had died.
Normally i link my macbook to my HiFi via the aux setting on the hifi and usinga headphobne jack into the headphone socket on my macbook. I have done this since having the new hard drive but last night i unplugged it and the built in speakers weren't working.
The headphone socket now has a red light in it and when i go to the sound specification in the prefrences menu it says that the device has no built in speakers?
what have i done? Should i take it to a shop?
apologies it it is utterly obvious im just not a wizz.
    Thankyou!
    Ruby xx

    Hi there,
I've got quite a similar problem. Yesterday I rebooted my MB because two programs crashed. The first strange thing which happened was that the start up process took ages. Afterwards, like five minutes, the sound symbol in the status bar had disappeared and I couldnt find any sound output devices within the sound menu. I've read lots of posts to this topic and in most ones they talked about a red light within the headphone jack, which isnt true for me.
I've tried a hardware check as well as PRAM reset and all those things but nothing helped. Has anybody an idea what went wrong/ what I can do? Im going insane without music.
    Kind regards,
    philo

  • Sound Speakers are not working! Not allowed to control the volume! Why?

    Hello,
Digital Output is not working on my iMac PowerPC G5 with Tiger. Suddenly, sound disappear and I was not allowed to turn on the volume through the keyboard buttons; a "not allowed" icon confirms that.
First I thought It was because Perian, Quicktime plugins, libraries, etc as I have read searching on these forums but I have just installed Mac OS X from the default install disc after formatting but the problem is not solved!
Speakers do not work but headphones and airtunes do.
Did the iMac Sound Speakers die?
    Help me, please!

    Imac G5 OS10.5.3
I have the same problem but with a twist:
    In system preferences:
    Under sound:
    Output selected:
    Under name: Digital out
    Under type: Built in audio
Below that : settings for selected device
It says:The selected device has no output controls
It won't let me adjust the audio up or down, no sound.
I can hear the chime when the computer comes on, though.

  • My MacBook Pro internal speakers are not working, what happened?

My MacBook Pro internal speakers are not working, what happened? If I plug in earbuds or external speakers, there is sound. In sound preferences, internal speakers are not a choice. Why doesn't my internal speakers work?

Hopefully one of these steps should solve the problem.
    1. Remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    2. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    3. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    4. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.
    Best.

My speakers are not working when I try to play music or when I get notifications buh when I go to sound and increase and decrease sound it works HELP

  • All Speakers Suddenly Not Working!

Everything was fine until yesterday and I didn't do anything to the phone that might have caused this. I suddenly noticed that the speakers do not work, but through the headphones music will play. I can talk to people on the phone too, just not hear the phone ringing. The strangest part is, if I record something with the mic, it will play back! So the speakers work then.
I read online that this might be due to the iPhone still thinking the headphones are plugged in - I had had the headphones plugged in yesterday so I thought that was the problem, I tried plugging them in and out several times as people suggested with no results, I tried soft resetting twice, nothing... I then tried charging it as a last resort and realized if I mess around with the way the iPhone is plugged in (the angle), the sound will work, or at least cut in and out & fade in and out. Sometimes if I pull the USB in and out enough times, the sound will work when not plugged in... but of course that is very temporary solution - until I plug it back in to the charger. I am sure that isn't good for the phone either.
Does anyone know what has gone wrong? Is it a hardware issue? I don't have a warranty anymore. If I hard reset will it be fixed? And, if I hard reset, will I lose game data from apps, like Angry Birds and Inotia 2? I really don't want to lose that game info and I last backed up my iPhone quite some time ago; back when I downloaded Intoia 2.
I would greatly appreciate any help.

As far as I can see, it's random. Everything. Nothing makes any sense!
A the moment, the iPhone is playing music with the SIM card, but without anything plugged into it, but it's occasionally fading in and out.
Oh, and I doubt this is related, but about two months ago the iPhone failed to show that the battery was draining - it was stuck at 100%. This went on for a few days, it wouldn't even warn me at the 20% mark, it would just shut off. This happened for at least three full charges - I remember at one point it suddenly started working again at about the 70% mark, I'm not sure if it was alright after that or if it went glitchy on the next charge... but in any case, the problem mysteriously never reappeared after those few days.

  • Help! Built in features/hints not working flash cs6. Need fix ASAP

Loads of built in features are not working for me in Flash CS6. When I was using CS4 they did, now they aren't. I will give two examples. Say for example I am writing code in the actions window and I type "green_btn." in regards to the name of a button instance, what usually happens when I hit the "." immediately after "green_btn" a menu will pop up showing me every option I can pick, like green_btn.addEventListener() etc etc. There is usually a menu that comes up, but for me there is no menu. I have also created a button symbol, placed an instance of it on the stage, named the instance and tried it again (cs6 is supposed to recognize the "_btn" automatically and make the menu come up even if there is no button created, but I decided to create one just in case), and no menu pops up, still . Something is wrong here, it used to work for me when I had CS4 installed. Another example is if I am in the actions window again, and I type in a function like trace(); for example, you are supposed to be able to put your cursor infront of it, or highlight it and hit F1 and it will take you directly to the help page for that function. This does not happen as well. As I go on and on I seem to keep stumbling across all these built in features for convenience that are not working. And I know 100% that they are supposed to be, I am actually in a class right now for flash and I watch demo videos where it works perfectly. What is going on with mine? I have checked every possible preference and option, I have everything and I mean EVERYTHING up to date with the most current versions. I'm stuck, and I am getting really pissed off to be blunt, I need to fix this ASAP because it is going to affect my studies which are currently ongoing, I have deadlines to  meet and I am dicking around trying to fix this. PLEASE PLEASE HELP ME! Any suggestions and solution will be greatly appreciated on my behalf. If anyone helps me fix this I'll kiss you!!!!!!!!

I increased the cache from 800 to 5000, is that sufficient?
The .fla is saved to my harddrive
still no code hinting. I also unchecked and rechecked the code hinting, and even did a reboot on my comp and still nothing.
everything is updated, EVERYTHING, to the most current version available. I updated everything possible through the "Adobe Help Manager" and also through the help menu within the programs themselves; Help->Updates. I made slight progress with the help issue, in general settings withing the "Adobe Help Manager" I changed it to display local help only. So now when I initiate help by either right clicking, and then going to "view help" in the pop-up menu, or by hitting "FN+F1" (hp laptop) it brings up the flash_reference.pdf but it does not go directly to the function selected as it's supposed to. So maybe that isn't even progress...
I watched the demo video for the course I am in, and it shows our instructor put the cursor immediately infront of trace(); (within the actions window) and go to help and it goes directly to the help section on trace, and then he also highlights trace(); and goes to view help and it does the same thing.
I am also in touch with him (its an online course) to see if he can figure out it, and I am still waiting to hear back from him, but no one seems to know. I even contacted ADOBE today and got passed on to 3 different people only to be given the toll free 800 number because no one knows how to fix it.

  • Satellite M645-S4050: built in camera does not work correctly

My built in camera does not work correctly.
It does not have any kind of effect on and it captures pictures and videos as if some kind of thermal camera was on.
Also some videos I load up on youtube look like this.
I have been researching for an answer but can't find it, please help me.

All you can do is to test it with latest webcam driver.
Remove preinstalled camera software and install latest version offered on Toshiba download page.
If the same happen again visit nearest Toshiba service and show them how it looks like. Maybe the cam must be exchanged.
In the past I have used several Toshiba laptops with built in cam but I have never saw something lke this.
