Built in webcam doesn't work in Ubuntu

Hi everyone
I've just installed a clean Ubuntu 14.04 on my MSI CR620 notebook. So, my built-in webcam is not recognized by Skype (in it's video settings it says "device not found"). Hitting Fn+F6 doesn't affect anything. Any helpful advice would be highly appreciated

Try to google for the webcam driver on Ubuntu since there isn't any supported linux driver from MSI.
It has an AzureWave webcam.
Found some information about the skype webcam of ubuntu may be helpful.

    Hello
i dont think you can find any "Driver" for iSight as in include into os x itself
one thing to do is too see if your iSight is present into your mac , could be only a software problem
goto apple menu -> about this mac -> more info -> on left colum
hardware tab -> USB -> USB high speed -> if integrate iSight is present
click on iSight property you shoul read somme thing like that ;, if hardware is present
    iSight intégrée :

  • Built in webcam doesn't work on brand new iMac.

I recently got a new, 24 inch iMac. Evverything works good, but i wanted to do video chat today, and i installed all the intsallers for gmail, and my picture didn't come up. And i thought it my be just the internet, so i went to iMovie, and tried to record myself, and it said no camera connected. I know for a fact there is a webcam, for i can see it, i am just wondering if you have to activate it? There is no Webcam tab in system preferences. I also tried photo booth, and it said the same thing, no camera connected. I know its on there, i for fact can see it. And also the mic works. Help plz!

    Hello cundiff11
I have three comments to offer you:
    (1) Dennis (User den.thed ) has the right answer for you.
If your iSight does not show up as a USB device in your Mac's System Profiler after trying all the relevant suggestions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 , you have a hardware problem that will require repair or replacement.
    (2) For the benefit of new users who might be reading Carolyn's post above, I offer the following info regarding these quotes:

  • MY BUILT IN CAMERA DOESN'T WORK

my built in camera doesn't work, any advise?

  • Built-in webcam isn't working.

I have HP 2000 Notebook PC with Windows 8. Built-in webcam isn't working. it's not detected by apps e.g. Cyberlink Youcam . even there isn't Imaging Devices in Device Manager.

It is an issue with the hardware. Mine came like that and they want me to ship it to them to be fixed for God knows how long. I'll just go buy an external webcam and next month when I have to replace my pc's at work I will shop for anything OTHER than HP. Not nice to sell crap to a person that works for an ISP and can warn her customers of the crap you sell.

  • My built-in webcam is not working. Macbook not recognizing it?

Ive had no problems with my built in webcam before but for some reason today and yesterday my Built in Macbook camera is not showing.. No Green light and no camera? Skype, photobooth, Imovie, online sites, Ichat, Nothing Works with my camera, it says No camera Connected? Please help. Macbook 10.5.8  Version.

    HI,
Go to the Apple icon menu and hold the ALT key down whilst doing so.
Select System Profiler (it changes when and if you hold the ALT key down)
IN the System Profiler open up the Hardware > USB option
Does this list the camera ?
If not then do a SMC/PMU reset (the model Specific bits are at the bottom)
If it does appear then Log in a different Mac User Account (You may need to create one in System Preferences > Accounts)
Do those same Apps "see" the camera now ?

  • Satellite L300 - webcam doesn't work after BIOS upgrade

I recently upgraded BIOS to 2.2 and the webcam has stopped working. It disappeared and there is one unknown device in the device manager in the universal serial bus controller.
I tried everything even with new clean fresh Vista OS but nothing like there is no webcam I installed the drivers but not recognized so I would like if I can to downgrade BIOS to 1.5 and to fix the webcam. If I can cos I need it. Is that possible?
    Tnx

    Hi
I dont think its BIOS issue.
First of all the unknown device (webcam) appears in the device manager and this means that an device has been recognized by system and BIOS.
The only reason why its listed as unknown devices is: the driver is not installed properly.
After BIOS update you have to set the BIOS back to default. Access BIOS pressing F2 and within the BIOS you can use the button F9 to set it to default and F10 to save the changes.
After that you should boot up the unit and should go to device manager.
Mark the unknown device and delete it from the list (if possible)
Go to control panel -> software and check the software list for webcam software (from chicony). Uninstall this software if its part of the list.
    Now reboot the notebook.
Clean the OS using CCleaner and install the correct webcam software for Vista. Note: please pay attention to 32bit or 64bit version.
If the installation would fail, try the Toshiba recovery disk and set the notebook back to factory settings.
By the way: BIOS downgrade is not possible because the old BIOS is not downloadable.

  • Satellite L300 - Built In webcam suddenly stopped working

    Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite L300 with a built in 2.0 USB camera and a windows 7 operating system, the camera suddenly stopped working since about 2-3 weeks ago with unknown reason!
I already tried system restore, un-installing and re-installing the camera driver, preformed a full scan by kaspersky internet antivirus 2012 (up to date), and I also ran a complete system and drivers troubleshooting ... and the problem still exists ...
When I use the windows live movie maker it gives me an error saying: cant record audio or video from the selected device. Make sure that the device you're trying to use is installed properly and not currently in use by another program.
The microphone works well on skype but the camera doesn't open!
Please tell me how to fix it, what am I missing?

    > webcam appears in the device manager
Is it marked with an yellow exclamation mark?
Usually if the webcam software has been installed, you should be able to start this software going to:
    All Programs -> Toshiba
There you should find the webcam software check if you can use and control the webcam after this software has been started normally the webcam control bar should pop up if you would move the mouse cursor above the upper display area PS: the bar can be moved to other area too; left right or bottom

  • 27' Imac version 10.8.2 webcam doesn't work on any softwares: photo booth, skype, ichat...!

I got the new imac 27 inch 3.2 GHZ last week, the version is 10.8.2. I tried to use photo booth, skype and other softwares for webcam, but none of them work. They just turned black and stopped there. How can I do to test it or it's obviously broken?
    Thank you!

If you have not already done so, shut down Mac, restart, and try again.  If the iSight still does not work, try all relevant suggestions from Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
(Apple has changed the built-in camera's name on newer Macs from "iSight" to "FaceTime" and then to "FaceTime HD."  Regardless of the name of your Mac's built-in camera, the same info and troubleshooting applies.)

  • WebGL doesn't work in Ubuntu 10.10 with Firefox 4. How to fix this?

I'm using Firefox 4 on Ubuntu 10.10 on a mac. When I tested http://get.webgl.org/, it says "Hmm. While your browser seems to support WebGL, it is disabled or unavailable. If possible, please ensure that you're running the latest drivers for your video card. For more help, please visit the support site for your browser.". I found http://videos.mozilla.org/serv/mozhacks/flight-of-the-navigator/ more helpful, as it says "Could not initialise WebGL, sorry :-(". What am I supposed to do now?

Thanks, but webgl didn't work after i did all it said on that page.
I've also noticed that on Mac OS X on the same computer, firefox's webgl works, so the problem must be in Ubuntu or Firefox's Ubuntu port.
