Built-in Webcam not Recognized by Laptop

My built-in webcam on my Satellite A305-S6905 is not recognized by my laptop!!!
I click on Camera Assitant Software to boot up the cam and get no where.
The error message reads: Webcam is either disabled or failed. Please check your webcam settings.
I have no clue where the webcam settings might be. I have downloaded the driver 2x from the Toshiba recommended downloads: Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility for Windows Vista (32/64bit) / XP(v8.7.0.1007; 04-13-201... I get a message that the download was successful. Then, I check the list of devices in the Device Manager. The Chicony USB 2.0 Camera software is nowhere to be found. I cannot select it to Update the software. I have restarted my computer 2x. No help.
Does anyone have any suggestions?   My daughter is leaving for Hong Kong and Vietman and I would like to track her journey using Skype. Thanks, NC

Thank you for the help Jerry, but I already tried that download. After downloading, I recved the following message: “The setup has detected that version (1.07..) of Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba is already installed. This setup installs an earlier version of Cam Asst. Soft for Toshba. You will need to uninstall the previous version (17.193.0508L) before installing this version.”
I have not tried to find the earlier Cam Asst Soft for Toshba version to uninstall yet. Should I find the earlier version, uninstall and download this earlier version?

  • Built-In iSight NOT RECOGNIZED after EFI Update 1.1

After updating to EFI 1.1 on my iMac 20 Inch (2,16Ghz) the built-in iSight-Cam is not
working anymore. It´s not showing up in the system profiler > USB Devices.
I bought the iMac last week, switched it on, the cam took a picture on the user account creation,
I applied the EFI-Update and OSX 10.4.8. After that the cam was gone.
I tried everything from resetting SMC, PRAM to reinstalling Combo-Update 10.4.8 ... NOTHING helped !
    Any ideas or solutions ???
P.S.: Sorry for my crappy English, I´m writing from Germany !

Here´s a report from MacFixIt.com about this problem:
    http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=20061211231332862
Built-in iSight not recognized Some users have reported loss of their built-in iSights after applying the iMac EFI Firmware Update 1.1. In some cases, this issue can be resolved by resetting the SMC (system management controller) using this process:
    1. From the Apple menu, choose Shut Down (or if the computer is not responding, hold the power button until it turns off).
    2. Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord and any display cables.
    3. Wait at least 15 seconds.
    4. Plug the power cord back in, making sure the power button is not being pressed at the time. Then reconnect your keyboard and mouse to the computer.
    5. Press the power button on the back to start up your computer.
Resetting PRAM can solve a variety of issues As mentioned in our coverage of recent EFI Firmware updates issued for other Macs, a number of potentially serious issues apparent after applying this EFI Firmware Update can be resolved by simply resetting PRAM/NVRAM via the following process:
Shut down your Mac, then start it back up while immediately holding the following keys: Command, Option, P and R. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.
This workaround is a good first course of action before exploring more complex fixes. It should also be attempted if your system cannot properly startup after applying the update.

  • Built in webcamera not working

I realize yesterday that my built in webcam is not working... and when I try to run the camera assistant software I recieve an error message that says that the camera is disabled.
    what can I do?
    I have a NB 100

    Hope this helps
    Click on the link:  http://kb.toshiba.com/98082243
Follow these steps to re-install the driver for the webcam. You will need to be logged in as an Administrator or have an Administrator password ready.
    1.  Click the Windows Start button.
    2.  Click Control Panel, System and Maintenance and then Device Manager.
    3.  Right-click on Chicony USB 2.0 Camera and select Update Driver Software. A yellow exclamation point indicates that the camera is recognized by Windows but is not working properly, probably because of problem with the device driver
    4.  Select Browse my computer for the driver software.
    5.  Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
    6.  Select USB Video Device from the list, and click Next.
    7.  If the message “Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device” appears, click Close.
    8.  Restart Windows.

  • Ipod touch not recognized by laptop

My sister brought her ipod touch over because she forgot her password and wanted me to restore it for her. When I plug the ipod into the usb port in my laptop i get a message saying, "USB device not recognized" and that it has malfunctioned. The ipod won't charge or register at all on my laptop but it will on my ps3 so its not a problem with my usb cable. I have installed all of the drivers and updated itunes. When I plug in a mouse and keyboard they both work perfectly fine so I have no idea what the problem could be.

  • Presario CQ 71 - Built in Webcam not detected under Windows 7 Professional - No HP-101 device

I have a Compaq Presario CQ 71 EB400. On this notebook I run both Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bits and  Windows  7 Professional 64-bits to compare behaviour of apps and windows features in both  environments.
Windows 7 Home on  my  HD C partition
Windows 7 Professional  on my HD F partition.
The CQ 71 has a built in Webcam, that shows up under Windows 7 Home premium Device Manager - Imaging Devices  (Cameras and Scanners)  as HP-101, linked to the required drivers.
    Under Windows 7 Home premium:
    - The built-in CQ 71 Webcam is detected and operational - the HP-101 entry is present in Device Manager.
    - Applications using a Webcam like Skype, Mycam, Manycom etc connect with the Webcam
    - When I  plug in an external Webcam,  thet webcam is detected as well, drivers loaded etc.
    Under Windows 7 Professional:
    - The built in Webcam is not detected, in the Device Manager -Imaging Devices, the HP-101 Webcam entry is absent
    - Skype, Mycam, Manycam cannot find a  Webcam (also not when an external USB Webcam is plugged in)
    - A plugged in external Web cam is not detected as an imaging device.
I use a Brother printer/scanner/fax machine,  the Brother scanner device is visible as Imaging device in Device manager in both Windows 7 Home premium and Windows 7 Professional.
Other USB devices, portable disks, card readers etc seem to work OK in both Windows 7 environments.
The HP support pages provide information what to do when a internal Webcam is not detected; The recommended actions make no difference.  Going back to a  previous W7 Prof restore point is no option,  as on the CQ 71 notebook the built-in Webcam  never functioned under W7 Professional.
The major difference is that all Windows 7 Home Premium relatede system software resides on the C partition, all Windows 7 Professional system software on the F partition.
I'm looking for a way to kickstart the built in CQ 71 Webcam under Windows 7 Professional installed  on a non-standard partition.
Your suggestions will be very welcome.
    Jan Dijckmeester.

    Hi again jdij,
It is good to hear back from you!
To enable your system to detect the Webcam in Windows 7, I recommend re-installing the original drivers and software that first came with your computer. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Recovery Manager to Restore Software and Drivers (Windows 7). To update the newly installed software, please follow this resource on Using HP Support Assistant (Windows 7).
If the webcam is still not detected, I recommend returning your system back to a previous restore point. This can be done by following the steps in this document on Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 7).
Should the problem continue, I suggest performing a backup and recovery of your operating system. This can be done by following the steps in this resource on Backing Up Your Files (Windows 7), as well as Performing an HP system recovery (Windows 7). This should return your system back to factory defaults.

  • HP Simple Save external hard drive not recognized on laptop.

I have tried plugging it into different USB ports on same laptop or a completely different desktop.  It is never recognized.  last week it was.  I took it apart & tried it in a 3.5 SATA external closure.  Still is not recognized.  I have info on it that i desperately need.  Is there any way for me to get my files off of it?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news; this vintage drive might have died.
If you are lucky, it is only the power supply, although this is a thin hope and is not based at all on the facts.
Depending on your level of desperation, you might consider taking the drive to a forensic specialist.
My own Simple Save drive died suddenly one day about five months ago after several years of good service.  Fortunately, I never depend on only one device for backups, else they are not backups, but instead become single points of certain failure.
I hope you find a viable solution.

  • WRE54G Range extender not recognized on laptop running Vista

I have just set up a home wireless network using the WRT54GL and the WRE54G range extender. The main computer (WindowsXP) is wired and a desktop (also XP) is getting 100% signal through the WRE54G. A third computer (laptop running on Vista) works fine on wireless running off WRT54GL but is not recognizing the range extender and getting insufficient signal in other parts of the house including the room where the 2nd desktop is getting 100%. The WRE54G is not showing up on the network map of the laptop. Can anyone help me trouble shoot? I need step by step instructions - I don't know a lot of the internet/network lingo but am pretty computer literate. Thanks

If one computer is already working fine with the wireless range extender .... you need to check the wireless settings on the vista Laptop ....
Make sure that the adapter is workiong fine ....
Also try uninstalling & reinstalling the wireless adapter .....

  • IPod not recognized by laptop's USB 1.0 port

There are a couple of problems here. I have an external hard drive that can only be accessed with a USB 2.0 cable. I had to buy a card with USB 2.0 ports since my laptop only has USB 1.0. When I try to update the iPod (plugged into the USB 2.0 card as well as the external hard drive), everything freezes, goes very slowly, and I can't transfer songs from the external hard drive.
When I unplug the external hard drive I can update songs from my laptop's hard drive, but the iPod has to be plugged into the USB 2.0 card. When I plug the iPod into the laptop's USB 1.0 port (regardless of whether the external hard drive is connected) the iPod is not recognized, it only gets charged.
I tried this iPod on a different computer last night and it worked great.
So two questions: 1) how do I transfer songs from my external hard drive (get my computer not to freeze) and 2) how can I make my laptop recognize my iPod when it's plugged into the laptop's USB 1.0 port?
    Thanks a lot

Well... from what i am reading about your post, you want to transfer your music from the external hard drive to your laptop. if this is correct then i think that you should open the hard drive into a window and put all the music into 1 folder and drag it onto your desktop, then once the music is downloaded onto your laptop, (if there is enough space) unplug the external hard drive and use the USB 2.0 port 4 your ipod w/o the hard drive. sometimes when i plug my ipod into my PC it will stop everything for 5 minutes then it starts to work. so i recommend to plug it into the 2.0 and wait a while and see what happens.

  • Webcam not recognized

    Hello,
I've installed version 4.6 but my notebook's built in webcam isn't properly recognized.
The webcam is listed in the setting's dropdown menu but after selecting it no image appears.
    I am using a HP Elitebook 8460p.
I am quite sure that the webcam was working before.
    Regards,
    Phil
    Edit:
Okay, the webcam video is being normaly transmitted it only doesn't appear in the settings screen as it should.

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

  • Satellite A215-S7444 built-in webcam not working with MSN / Skype

Hi, I've just bought my laptop and right after installing the newest MSN and Skype, the video is not working with these programs. I tried to configure the video settings inside MSN and it told that "windows cannot connect to this webcam. It's in currently in use or not plugged in". The webcam is built-in, a Chicony USB 2.0.
    Any hints ??

    Hi there,
maybe you should download the webcam software for your machine from the toshiba driver download site and install it. The webcam works but the software sometimes behaves really weird so you just have to reinstall it. Maybe its an good idea to uninstall the old software before...

  • New nano not recognized by laptop (already followed all suggestions on site

I have a 3rd generation iPod and it connects to my desktop and is recognized just fine (so that implies no hardware issues). I however do not want to use it with my desktop, I want to use it with my laptop. I have re-installed the USB drivers to no avail. I actually get an error message during driver re-installation that states that the "firmware is mis-identifying the resources" or something to that effect. I believe the error code is 9. I have copied the driver file usbaapl.sys from my desktop to laptop and this did not help either.
My laptop's USB ports recognize lots of other flash memory devices just fine.
I am using my desktop to manage the transfer content to the nano right now, as fortunately my music collection is on a portable external drive so I can use either PC to play it regardless of whether I am on the road or not.
I would like to be able to manage content from my laptop. Do you think I need a firmware update? Any and all ideas for what could be wrong with my laptop's config?
    Chris

Yes I have downloaded 7.4 and then 7.4.1 but neither has helped. It is really wierd. I have a iPod Classic 80Gb and it connects fine to my laptop. I just can't get my nano to be recognized as well.
