Hi
The original files are saved in our local drives (for example C: drive) and the file paths are mentioned in a excel sheet.  Can anyone explain how to move these files into content server and and store the corresponding content server file paths.

  • .vsd application in SAP DMS

    Hi friends,
I have .vsd application file to upload in SAP DMS. But SAP DMS does not supports this kind of application. What to do? kindly help me out.
    Regards,
    Punam

    Hi Punam
You can define the application(.vsd) in the t.code DC30. And also the file formats it supports. After you define here you will be able to use in DMS.
From the DMS you will be able to open the .vsd file if you have the .VSD application installed in your system.
But you cannot view the file in ECL viewer because ECL Viewer 6 doesn't supports this format.
ECL Viewer 6.0 Supports the file formats mentioned in note 381860 plus the following formats are also now supported.

  • DMS Document upload: does it pass through sap DMS ?

    Dear All,
We have a question concerning the transmission of documents from the client to DMS and the Content Server: does the document need to pass through the sap server ?
    Document upload (create document CV01N)
Does the document go directly from the client to the Content server OR does it pass through the sap DMS before to be stored in the CS ?
    Document download (read document CV03N)
Does the document go directly from the CS to the client OR does it pass through the sap DMS server ?
This could be interesting to know for network performances.
    best regards,

    Hi Gurus
is the cache server a default funtionality from the content server or any configuration is required from our part.
is that the cache server acts as the RAM of our system?
please explain the partitioning or biferfication of the Content server, as you told
content server is divided into storage catagories and  this in turn in to content repositories,
    please  clarify below points,
1)any server or PC can be made as Content server by insatalling the content server CD if iam right ?
    2) Practical and funtional benifits of partitioning content server into content repositories is it for authorization and storing data by naming convection or can it also help in copiying data from a specific content repository if needed, ( is content repositories a logical partition or practical partition like B,C,D, F drives of our PC hard disk)
    3) can /should there be multiple content server installation for a particular (production) client.
    4) Can Archiving  be done say by creating a separate content repository inside the same Content server, or is it mandatory to have a separate archiving server itself,
please give some idea with examples
    Thanks and regards

  • Upload bulk data into sap?

    hi all,
let me know is there any methods to upload bulk data into sap and can same data be modified , delete , add. please correct me if i am wrong. what i know is that we can do with lsmw method, as i am new to lsmw method please let me know where to hunt for lsmw documentation.
    thanks,
    john dias.

    Hi John-
According to SAP, The Data Transfer Workbench supports the automatic transfer of data into the system. The Workbench is particularly useful for various business objects with large amounts of data. It guarantees that data is transferred efficiently and ensures that data in the system is consistent.
Further, The Legacy System Migration Workbench (LSMW) is a tool recommended by SAP that you can use to transfer data once only or periodically from legacy systems into an R/3 System.
For your purpose you might be helped by the following two links-

  • DMS - Document upload in SAP

    Hi,
We created document in SAP DMS by CV01N but those doucments are stored in PC. But we would like store those .xls, .pdf, .doc files in SAP server. So that users from any locations they can access the open the document.
Is there any possible way to store those doucments in SAP? Will it affect the system performance?
    Regards,
    Ajay

    hi buddy,
i guess u hve created the docs using ur previous sap only ... so it is very easy to load the files in ur new sap servers.
if not then the docs must be in table format like excel one so that u can load the data in ur sap tables using sap std FM.
.......i thk u need the data to be in ur sap system n not in ur pc...
but since u r planning tat all ur users shld be able to access it then let me tell u buddy ur server performance will def reduce a lot.
    Hope this will help you....

    Hi Divya,
    Good day...!
A custom UI component will berrequired to upload the data from a Flat File into CRM WEBUI.
The View in this UI Component can have 2 fields lets say u2013  ID and File to Upload and a button 'upload'.
When the UPLOAD button is clicked , the event u2018ONFILEUPLOADu2019 is triggered.
A Javascript function u2018fileUpload()u2019 reads the Excel file and formats the data in the form of a long string with Line Breaks corresponding to each row in the excel file. This string is stored in a Hidden HTML form element u2018Excel_Datau2019.
In the Event Handler for u2018ONFILEUPLOADu2019, the hidden form element u2018EXCEL_DATAu2019 is read and retrived.

  • Migration of Documents from 3rd party software to SAP DMS

    Dear Experts,
We have implemented SAP DMS . Prior to DMS we were using Third party software for creating and storing the documents.
There are abot 3000 documents in the third party software, now the challege is how we  must have to migrate the DATA from 3rd party software to SAP DMS with creating Dirs. Are there any upload programmes suffice the requirement or any development needs to be done or any possibilities.
Kindly help me out in the above scenario.

    Hi,
from DMS point of view I think that SDXA functionality could also be useful for this action. For further information on SXDA functions please see SAP note 817743.

  • Accessing files stored in Common Server and share drive with  SAP DMS

    Hi DMS Gurus,
We have a requirement, apart from retreving the data from content server storage, the client also wants the documents stored in common file server and Share drive also to be accessed through DMS,
    1) one option for this may be upload all the documents in the existing servers to DMS Content servers to get the full funtionality of DMS i'm i right? please suggest.
here again they have lacs of document so this may not be a ideal solution, now 2nd option is
    2) create a data carrier and Mount points with the existing server if i'm right, but by just doing this what funtionalities will this provide
i have a preassumption that this existing common server can be used as a storage area for DMS (as vault or common server), but only those documents which are stored in to this common server or shared folder through DMS can be retrived by DMS., again i'm i right?
but how can we access all the lacs of file which are already existing there for years.
how can we see all the documents in SAP DMS which are stored earlier in this common server before DMS,
is migrating all the necessary preexisting documents to SAP DMS the only Solution for this.
any solution for this please suggest.
Points sure for any clarification given

Edited by: Priya S on Feb 25, 2009 3:36 AM

    hi Priya
This is an old thread but nevertheless would like to give some inputs.
your point .. common file server and Share drive also to be accessed through DMS,
    1) one option for this may be upload all the documents in the existing servers to DMS Content servers to get the full funtionality of DMS.
<The option 1 is an ideal option as in future u would one day need to migarate the documents if u intend to use SAP DMS as the DMS system in ur org>
Alternatively if the documents would still need to be retained in the file server but also would need to associate to SAP business objects u could use the Define data carrier external DMS.
This again depend on what kind of documents are stored in the file server & are they relevant to be associated to SAP objects/ Transactions.
The point here is u still want to use SAP DMS to view the file , all though there are other option as Archive link, Service for objects etc. Using SAP DMS option will still call for creating DIR in SAP & assigning the file path hyper link using LSMW /upload prog.
So as for a temp sol till u clean up the file server u can use the hyperlink and later migrate to Content server.

    John

  • SAP DMS - SAP ECC network traffic

    Hi all,
    I have the following situation:
The SAP ECC servers are hosted outside my company and we are planning to install a SAP DMS server.
We have 2 options: host the SAP DMS outside or install SAP DMS in our datacenter.
When the SAP user attaches or reads a file to/from SAP DMS, how is the network traffic ?
Is there any traffic fom SAP ECC to SAP DMS or the file goes to/from DMS from/to end-user ?
How SAP DMS impacts my WAN ?
    Best Regards,
    Leonardo.

Leonardo,  I have done some research /  trouble shooting and architectural changes to raise the upload / download speeds, there are several dependencies like Network, Application, hardware etc but to your question:
First of all, DMS is a core functionality of ECC and utilizes both ECC for execution and Content Servers (recommended for Obvious performance reasons) for Data Storage. For your case I recommend that you host Content Server at the Data Center (assuming you have no other option) and have a Cache Server installed Onsite. (This requires minimal maintenance). When the user uploads a file the traffic is high as the entire File needs to be transferred to the data center, on the other hand Cache server (if installed onsite) considerably reduces the retrieval time.
Again having said above there are several other parameters that could affect your upload / download speeds.
Hope you'll find this useful, let me know if you have further questions.
    regards
    C

  • SAP DMS configuration

    Hi all,
Can we upload primavera files in SAP DMS? What settings are required for that from configuration side of DMS.
    Kindly help.

    Hi,
generally you can add and upload all possible file formats in DMS. Before I would recommend you to create a special workstation application in transaction DC30 where you define the specific file format and all the other settings. You will find a detailed explanation on all the settings by clicking on the blue information button.
By defining the application which should be used for this file format I would recommend you to use the
parameter %AUTO% in ' Define workstation application in network' for all three application types (1-display, 2- edit, 3-print). Again you will find a detailed info in the blue button.
For further information and screenshots please see also the WIKI page
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/wiki?path=/display/plm/2.Customizing%28CA-DMS-EAI%29&
But instead of the parameter 'EAIWeb.webviewer2D.1 %SAP-CONTROL%' use just %AUTO%. This parameter will grant that the correct external viewing application is used to display this kind of files from DMS transaction.
    Best regards,
    Christoph
P.S.: Please reward points for all useful information.
