Bulleted list with hierarchy

How do I make a tiered list with hierarchy using bullets instead of numbers, and save the list so I don't have to manually change each bullet every time?

Styles are part of the document they don't apply to all documents, open or not.
I know what you are thinking but that would be a disaster. You change the style and it changes all your documents? Even the ones that aren't opened?
You decide that the text in your CV should be a business like Arial then do your wedding invitations where you use Champagne with Flourishes, then open your CV again and go wha' the…!
Do you really you rteally want your list to fall apart because you changed it somewhere else?
That is what templates are for. You set the way you like them for whatever purpose, then open the one you want and it looks just like you left it.
In Pages '09 you can Import styles from another Pages or Word document and have it override the existing styles if you want, but Apple threw all that out in Pages 5.

  • How to make an editable bulleted list with multiple lines and custom bullets?

    How do I create an editable bulleted list in Acrobat Pro? I've figured out how to add text fields with multiple lines, and how to add a list box, but I don't see the check box for multiple lines in the list box or how to add bullet points. Can someone please give me step by step instructions? Also is it possible to use custom bullet points?

    Is it a text field or a list box field? The two are not the same...
    The bullets are something that the user will have to enter manually (into a text field, they can only select values in a list-box).
    They can use any unicode character, or special characters if the font used for that field allows for it. You can't use images for the bullets, if that's what you mean.

  • Ordered list with hierarchy

    I want to use automatic numbering to create a list that will look something like this:
    1.
         A.
              (1)
                   (a)
    2.
         A.
         B.
              (1)
    Etc.
    I want the list to automatically switch between numbers and letters depending on which level I'm at and when I use the tab or shift/tab key. There ought to be a simple way to do this, but I can't figure it out.

    You are asking for far too much intelligence from Pages v5 (any version).

  • Text color changes when more than one color is used in the same paragraph in a bulleted list

    I work in a print shop on designers' files preparing them for print. Machine I use is an iMac, plenty of RAM, running Tiger 10.4. Here is my problem: A PC user sent us an InDesign CS3 file. A portion of the text is styled as a bulleted list with character color and bullet (the solid circle) defined as (default) black. However, the style is over-ridden on the bullet and first two words following the bullet with a spot color red, which is present in the Swatches palette (PMS 186). The remainder of the sentence stays black. The text somehow lost this override, and instead of keeping the 2 different colors all the text changed to black. This seems to have occurred when I saved the file on my machine. When I go back and open the original file the text is still colored both red and black. I think that the file was originally an InDesign CS2 file, and could even have been a Indd version 1 or Quark file. Why did the color change with no user intervention? Also, I can't understand why, when the first 2 words are highlighted and changed to red, the bullet also changes to red. (That is good, of course, because that is what we want, but I don't understand how that happens when the character style is black, and I can't even highlight the bullet itself). I sure would appreciate any ideas anyone has on this, I have to try to explain why we printed the text in black when it was supposed to be red and black!

    thanks Alan and Bob. Nothing has explained the loss of color so far.
    Alan, I will suggest to the designer that she use a nested style. I wonder if that will make the styling more stable moving accross the different platforms.
    Bob, I feel like you may have thought, as I did, that hundreds of saves and saved-as and many different applications would have damaged the file, but as you could see by the History, the file was fairly fresh.
    There is a very outside chance that I wiped out the style overides by command click but I am really careful and I doubt it.
    So I'll thank you both again and check back each day, perhaps this will happen to someone else and become an issue. I have tried to repeat my actions and cause the error again but to no avail.

  • Implementing bullet list in JTextPane

    I found an example here:
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=4&thread=162662
    .. which describes how to create a TextAction for implementing bullet lists with a HTMLEditorKit.
    The problem is that I use StyledEditorKit.
    Anyone know how to implement a "StyledEditorKit.BulletAction" ?

    It amazes me though that this is something that has to be done from scratch ...
    Me too!
    But it's not too bad, this is how I did it:
    1) Add a unicode prefix to represent the bullet:
         if (type.startsWith("CIRCLE"))     liType="\u25CB";
         else if (type.startsWith("DISC"))     liType="\u25CF";
         else if (type.startsWith("SQUARE")) liType="\u25A0";
         doc.insertString(doc.getLength(),liType+" "+liText,null);2) use the FontMetrics to set the outdent:
         FontMetrics     fontmetrics=getFontMetrics(font);
         FLOAT=fontmetrics.stringWidth(doc.getText(start,2));
         StyleConstants.setLeftIndent(aset,50f*listLevel-(listLevel-1)*FLOAT);
         StyleConstants.setFirstLineIndent(aset,-FLOAT);You can see the end-product [url http://home.comcast.net/~viravan/f7.htm]here

  • Space before a bullet list

    Hello,
    I would like to add a little more space (like a vertical indent) before the first line of a bullet list.
    You can see the text in the screenshot below :
    When I change the "Space before" value, it affects also the space in green (2).
    How can I adjust the space in red (1) without affect the space in green ?!
    Thank you for your kind attention.

    A couple of methods come to mind:
    Option 1: Use Space After on the paragraph preceeding the list.
    Option 2: Use a second bulleted paragraph style for the first line of the bulleted list with space before assigned.
    Duplicate the bullet paragraph style
    Assign the space before attribute
    Set the original bulleted paragraph style as the "next style"
    Select all bulleted text, right click on the space before bulleted paragraph style and select the "Apply Style, then next style" option

  • Tabbing Within a Bulleted List

    Every school day I create a simple Keynote presentation for my students with the day's schedule. Along the left side of the slide is a bulleted list with the time slots of the day. The column on the right lists the activity we'll do during that time slot. My problem is that when I type in the times and then want to type in the corresponding activity, pressing the tab key simply indents the bullet item rather than move the cursor across the screen. Any suggestions on how to move the cursor across the screen with a keystroke within a bulleted list? Currently I copy and paste a blank spacer to create a slide similar to what is below.

  • Numbered bullet list-default values

    I have been using Text Expander to insert templates into Pages documents. One of these templates creates a simple numbered bullet list, with only the number one, followed by a period.
    When I add text to this bullet list and press enter or return, I get each new number in sequence. However, there is a preset “Text Indent” under the “List” tab, and a preset “Left Tab” under the “Tabs” tab.
    The Text Expander macro is saving the text in rich text format.
    Is there a way to set default values for the “Number” bullet list in the tab value, such that I do not have these indents and tabs whenever I start a new bullet list?
    Thanks

    @Jerry-
    Thanks much. I've been reading on styles, and it does exactly what I need.
    Mucho gracias!

  • Creating a list in Pages with hierarchy

    How do you create a list in Pages with hierarchy?

    Hierarchy is just a matter of indent levels.
    Pages works by example so having set up the initial one level list, hit a return after one of the points and tab to move to the next level.
    Then apply settings in:
    Format > Text > Bullets & Lists > to each level if it isn't already an indented List
    You can save the final set of hierarchical list as a List Style for reuse.

  • How to create a 2 column list with bullets

    How can I create a 2 columned list with bullets? When I hit tab button, the whole word and bullet moves. I am trying to create a checklist with 2 columns with a visual bullet in front of specific list items. Thanks for any help! chris

    Why not just use 2 columns?
    Or if they need to stay in step, a table?
    Peter
    btw A tab in a list changes its level, option tab moves it to the next tab on the ruler. A silly choice to make it the opposite of common sense, but they followed the lead of MsWord on this one.

  • Xml import with bullet list like images

    Hi!
    I have a xml file with data that i would like to import to indesign. ANd that works great.
    But i have a minor issue. I have a kind of a bullet list something like this:
    my xml looks like this:
    <mytext>
    1 some text
    2 some text
    3 some text
    <mytext/>
    the bullets is pictures (or perhaps numberd bullets if its possible to style them in my XML)
    is there any solution to make this possible?
    <mytext>
    [include my  1 image here] some text
    [include my  2 image here] some text
    [include my  3 image here] some text
    <mytext/>
    I have tried to use CDATA in my xml file and included the path for my images, but the result is that "<image src..." is written as text not as a image..
    PLS help me, before i go nuts!
    /MK

    Your XML is going to need to be formatted something like this:
    <image href="file:///../images/bullet.png"></image>
    <BulletText>Some text here...</BulletText>
    In order to get the images in. The above has the images in a sub-folder of the ID document. There is also a tab between the close image tag and the BulletText tag (which is why I included the screen shot.

  • The bullet list, numbered list and the normal text is not converting when I am converting from RH 9 to MS Word 2010

    Hi all,
    Greetings for the day
    I am created a new CSS in Robohelp 9. I have also created a new template in Word 2010. The style sets for different information elements like (Heading, bullets, body text, ) are more or less same between the CSS and the new templates. I am also able to map the .css styles to Word template when I am converting from RH to Word as I am getting the necessary option in the drop-down list.
    However, when the output is generated, the bullet, the numbered list and the body text is not converting at all. The body text works sometimes. However, the numbered list and bullet list is coming out as images.
    If anybody knows the solution, I can share the .css and Word template.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Parag Deb

    Create a new project with two or three topics containing lists of both types. Generate a printed output that shows the problem. Then zip it up and send it to me. See the Contact page on my site for instructions.

  • Creating Custom Bullets & Lists in Pages 5.0

    I cannot figure out how to create a custom numbered list in Pages 5.0. I had custom LISTS on my 4.3 Docs that did not migrate to 5.0. How do I create duplicate LIST STYLE in 5.0?
    Thank you for your help.

    On the format menu on the right side, there is the font section, alignment section, spacing section, and bullets & lists section. Next to the bullets & lists section is a drop-down menu of preset lists. At the top-right of this menu is a plus sign. Clicking on this will allow you to create a new list in that menu and title it. From there, you will have to manually create your custom list change the type of bullets (numbers, roman numerals, letters, etc.) -- you might need to click on the disclosure triangle to the left of the bullets & lists title to see this part. When you finish with your custom list, there will be an asterik next to the title of the list, and if you click on that title, the drop-down menu will open up again and you can hit "Update" next to your list name. This should save the style for that custom list. Here is the most important part: When you have finished making this list, make sure you save the document as a template and select that template if you ever want to use that list. I have found that a custom list in a document (saved or deleted) that is not made into a template does not carry over into other documents. Setting up this custom list may take a while, but hopefully it will work and make things easier. I hope this makes sense, and let me know if you cannot understand something. Hopefully this picture will help too.

  • Bulleted Lists in Text Boxes?

    Hi all,
    Apologies if this has been asked before - I've searched but to no avail.
    Can one, in a text document, have a bulleted list in a text box? I've tried, but when the text to be bulleted in the text box is selected, the toolbar and the 'Format' drop-down menu changes and the 'Bullets On/Off' button is not available.
    I've tried customising the toolbars (which I feel I shouldn't have to do anyway), but this doesn't work. I've tried to cut and paste in bulletted points from normal text (which I feel I shouldn't have to do either) but this doesn't work either.
    Any suggestions, or is this a bug/feature?
    With thanks,
    Sean.

    If you mean the text function in the drawing toolbar, it isn't possible.
    You should use frames.

  • Creating a list with different row sizes...

    I'm new to AS 3.0 and CS4 and I've been getting up to speed
    on all of it. I've used the List component before with my own
    CellRenderer. I now need to create a list with different row
    heights. The List component is great and does everything that I
    want but it requires all rows to be the same height.
    I'm unsure of where to go. Creating my own class seems like a
    lot of work. The TileList and Grid components don't allow different
    sized (and dynamically changing) row heights either. Is there some
    base class (SelectableList? BaseScrollPane?) that I should extend
    or do I need to just bite the bullet and write it all from scratch?
    I need each row to have it's own height and interaction with
    a row could change the height of the row. The main use is a list of
    data. If the user clicks in an item, it turns the display into
    something they can edit (which will need more height).
    Thanks for any thoughts on a direction I should think about.
    By the way, I really like that AS 3.0 is much more consistent of a
    programming language than previous MX versions that I've used.
    We're doing a lot of AS/Flash/AIR work with it and it's turning
    into a wonderful environment...

    Any ideas about this??
