Bullets showing up as hearts in LXDE and XFCE?
I'm running into a super strange issue that I haven't been able to find any information on.
Basically, when I'm in LXDE or XFCE, whenever I go to a website or any place where I put in a password and it shows up corresponding bullets in lieu of the password characters (for example, logging into GMail, when typing my password) it shows heart symbols, not the bullets it normally does.
Oddly, when in Gnome this isn't the case and the bullets show up as proper bullets, not as hearts. I'm not sure when this issue began, because I was running Gnome for so longer, ever since I first installed Arch on this laptop. I haven't had the problem on my desktop.
I'm not even sure where to begin figuring this out. I've got my console set to UTF-8.

Any help would be fantastic. It's not a functional thing, but it's incredibly annoying.
EDIT: Also, fyi, U+2202 prints a bullet point as it should, and this issue occurs in all browsers on all websites in LXDE and XFCE (but not Gnome, haven't tried KDE)

How would one change this? My rc.conf is set as:
LOCALE="en_US.UTF-8"
DAEMON_LOCALE="yes"
HARDWARECLOCK="UTC"
So this should have the OS using UTF-8, correct?
I've set my fonts in obconf to Liberation Sans, instead of simply sans.
Also interesting, in Chromium I do not get the hearts, but I get them in every Mozilla application, as well as in most other applications that accept passwords (encryption keys in wicd network manager, for instance).
Is it something to do with GTK?

I am using FM8.0p277, I created an unstructured book, and added the TOC. When I look at the TOC, there seems to be bullets showing up in front of some of the heading2TOC and heading3TOC lines - not all of them, though. I have looked at the reference page, and I can't see anything different between those that are bulleted and those that are NOT. I looked at the body page, and looked at the paragraph designer for the heading2TOC and heading3TOC that are making bullets and those that are not, and again could not see any differences. Happy New Year :) The files were all created in FM8 - I have the TCS, so that is what I'm using. No imported text, etc. Everything originated in FM. There was nothing installed on this computer before we installed TCS (in terms of Adobe products). I did the test in a brand new FM file with a portrait template using Times Font, changed only the body font to Arial, and generated the TOC - the TOC looked fine (no bullet points anywhere).
The bullets in the document looked very similar to the ones showing up in my problematic TOCs- same size, same orientation.
So I tried again, same idea with a brand new document, changed the paragraph tags to arial for all my headings and such (as I have in the document that is causing me problems), updated, created TOC- same random bullets appearing in front of a few of the heading2 and heading3's.
I tried a third time- brand new doc, text, all font is Times New Roman, using heading1, heading2, heading3. When I generated the TOC, there were no bullet points anywhere... but it also didn't pick up any formatting in the TOC from the

Songs not showing up on my iPhone 4 and iPad 1 on iOS 5.0.1?
I have about one third of my music library not showing up on my iPhone 4 and iPad 1, even though it is ticked and everything, on iTunes it says that it should have been synced...
For example, I have 'only sync ticked songs and videos to my iPhone/iPad' enabled in iTunes, and all songs by Katy Perry are ticked, but only about 4 show up? the songs that didnt show up are there if I look for them through albums, but they don't show up under the artist 'Katy Perry'.
Basically, iTunes says the songs are synced, but they aren't on the iDevice.
Also, I don't have match enabled, is it something to do with iCloud taking this music 'off' my iDevice because I didn't download it from the iTunes Store?

I guess I'm confused. Are you trying to sync with match? or is match off?
If you are trying to sync with match on then go to settings>music> and make sure that the show all music toggle is turned on.
If you are trying to sync with match off and are trying to put files onto your phone without usiing match then uncheck the music tab under your phones information on your computer and then let it sync and take everything off. Then recheck the music box under the music tab and go to your summary page and make sure that the box that says sync only checked music is selected and resync. Sometimes you have to take everything off before you can get it to resync and put stuff back on.
Again, if you talking about what you see with match turned ON, on your ios device then make sure that the toggle for show all music is turned on.
You cannot sync with your computer and itunes match at the same time. You have to do one or the other.

itunes in my laptop is not showing my iphone5 (7.0.4) but it has no problem wat so ever showing in another laptop...and my laptop has no prob showing other iphones

I bought my iMac from someone. Everything was changed over to my name however when I try to update programs it only shows the old users apple ID and I can't update. How do I change this so I can update the applications and have everything fully under me?
The first thing to do with a second-hand computer is to erase the internal drive and install a clean copy of OS X. You — not the previous owner — must do that. How you do it depends on the model, and on whether you already own another Mac. If you're not sure of the model, enter the serial number on this page. Then find the model on this page to see what OS version was originally installed.
1. You don't own another Mac.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, you need a boxed and shrink-wrapped retail Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) installation disc from the Apple Store or a reputable reseller — not from eBay or anything of the kind. If the machine has less than 1 GB of memory, you'll need to add more in order to install 10.6. Preferably, install as much memory as it can take, according to the technical specifications.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.6, you need the installation media that came with it: gray installation discs, or a USB flash drive for some MacBook Air models. For early MBA models, you may need a USB optical drive or Remote Disc. You should have received the media from the previous owner, but if you didn't, order replacements from Apple. A retail disc, or the gray discs from another model, will not work.
To boot from an optical disc or a flash drive, insert it, then reboot and hold down the C key at the startup chime. Release the key when you see the gray Apple logo on the screen.
If the machine shipped with OS X 10.7 or later, you don't need media. It should boot into Internet Recovery mode when you hold down the key combination option-command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a spinning globe.
2. You do own another Mac.
If you already own another Mac that was upgraded in the App Store to the version of OS X that you want to install, and if the new Mac is compatible with it, then you can install it. Use Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable USB device and boot the new Mac from it by holding down the C key at the startup chime. Alternatively, if you have a Time Machine backup of OS X 10.7.3 or later on an external hard drive (not a Time Capsule or other network device), you can boot from that by holding down the option key and selecting it from the row of icons that appears. Note that if your other Mac was never upgraded in the App Store, you can't use this method.
Once booted in Recovery, launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive — not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. You will need the Apple ID and password that you used to upgrade. When the installation is done, the system will automatically reboot into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the previous owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed — you have to repurchase them.
3. Other issues
If you see a lock screen when trying to boot from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another authorized service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
If the previous owner "accepted" the bundled iLife applications (iPhoto, iMovie, and Garage Band) in the App Store so that he or she could update them, then they're linked to that Apple ID and you won't be able to download them without buying them. Reportedly, Mac App Store Customer Service has sometimes issued redemption codes for these apps to second owners who asked.
If the previous owner didn't deauthorize the computer in the iTunes Store under his Apple ID, you wont be able to authorize it immediately under your ID. In that case, you'll either have to wait up to 90 days or contact iTunes Support.
When trying to create a new iCloud account, you might get a failure message: "Account limit reached." Apple imposes a limit of three iCloud account setups per device. Erasing the device does not reset the limit. You can still use an account that was created on another device, but you won't be able to create a new one. Contact iCloud Support for more information. -

My Apple TV all of a sudden refuses to show the movies from my MacBook and says it needs to set time network. What is that?
Welcome to the Apple Community.
The Apple TV should set it's time automatically from the network time server, if it isn't doing this try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for a 30 seconds, if this fails try resetting or restoring it. -
I can not delete my history and adding new bookmarks.
Upgrading to later Firefox versions and/or re-installing didn't rectify it either.
The address bar still shows the web addresses of old and whenever I make new bookmarks, it's always gone as if it was never made.
Also, I have noticed that every once in awhile you can not close tabs you've opened, either by pushing on the X button and/or clicking on the mouse to close it. Although closing the window and opening it again (without closing the Firefox application) seemed to rectify the problem in the short term, it's becoming quite annoying.

Don't delete the file, just delete the information in the file. My file has over 3600 websites, which go back years!! I did not know they were there, but I was frustrated about not being able to get rid of them. They popped up every time I used the address bar. Clearing my history would not get rid of them.
This is where they are stored!! I found that by deleting the pesky web site from '''moz_hosts''', it does not appear in my address bar anymore!!!
I think that if I just delete all the websites in moz_hosts....

As long as you don't delete the file, just empty it, FireFox won't know the difference. It will just keep adding websites to it until you empty it again.
Why running "clear recent history" doesn't do this, I don't know. You are doing manually what "clear recent history" is not doing.
Please tell me if you see any flaw in this.

To open the subreports you will need to click on them in the main report. I don't know of a way to open them programmatically like you are doing here

Although my ipod shows the number of steps, calories, and time, it no longer is saving it to the history. Also when I open the history it takes me to May 2010 instead of the current date. Any ideas on how to get it to start recording the history again?

The missing apps could have been done by setting the Restrictions that can hid those apps. If the backup was made with those retrictions set the the Restrictions are also restored.
Thus, if you get it to work restore to factory settings/new iPod, not from backup

You must be within the Country with a Valid Billing Address and Credit Card for that Country to use the iTunes Store of that Country...
