Bumper actually making signal worse?

I am one of those folks who has not had issues with the so called "Death Grip"...I use bluetooth a lot and hold my phone as though it is a fine instrument rather than a club or hammer. Still, when Apple offered the free bumpers and cases, I signed up for one...just so I could try it out.
So far, I don't think I will use it much. It doesn't work with my dock nor does it work with the windshield mount I use and so it isn't terribly convenient. I could find a different dock or mount, but I don't know why I would based on the most significant issue I have had with it thus far.
The bumper actually has made my 3G reception worse when it is on the phone and my phone will intermittently lose 3G service altogether. Even just setting on my desk.
Has anyone else had this issue?

I seem to be suffering the same effects. It's very odd. I'm going to experiment with it for a few days though(I just received it today)

• Will the bumper interfere with signal strength

This might be a stupid question but hear goes.
With the iphone 4 the antenna is built into the band around the phone. If I put the rubber bumper around the phone will that interfere with the signal strength..

Except the Apple one is hard plastic coated in rubber. The marware one is pure rubber with rubber pads for the buttons.
I would rather spend the $30.00 on Apple's version with the meta buttons, hard plastic coated in rubber and made to work perfectly with the iPhone 4 than to buy a molded piece of rubber that will stretch out and may make button pressing horrible.

• The changes are making it worse on Mac; why?

The memory leaks are getting worse and worse, and now the top bar of the browser is so tiny, every time I try to double-click up there to minimize the screen, a tab opens. I hate tabs, I don't want them opening for no reason. Why would you remove the space to double-click?

Make sure to close (Quit) the Firefox application while the windows are still open.
If you first close open windows then you need to check "History > Recently Closed Tabs/Windows" to see if there are windows to restore.
You can check browser.sessionstore.* prefs including browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash on the about:config page and reset browser.sessionstore prefs that are user set (bold) via the right-click context menu to the default value to make sure that Session Restore is enabled and working properly.

• Changing Canvas size to be smaller, is actually making it larger?

Hello,
OK, I have changed Canvas size a thousand times in my life and this has never happened before.
I have an image that is 1600 px wide and I want to trim the sides to 1260. When I start to even type in the smaller size, the file size indicated is larger (that was my first suspicion that something was not right). And sure enough, it is making the image larger?
Has this ever happened to anyone else?
thanks

• Is anyone actually making music with this program?

I am a Producer/Engineer and teacher at a top London music school (also apple training center) and regular user of Logic studio 8 and it doesn't work. Lets face it constant error messages system overloads etc on a variety of machines is not a professional piece of software.
Logic 7 had its bugs but at least it worked on high track count recordings without cpu overloads etc in the middle of a take or crashing using minimal amount of software instruments. It seems there are many solutions to the problems that don't work, e.g. Turn off airport, load logic with a script, run activity monitor in the background or turn round three times whilst patting your head and standing on one leg. This all ********, we should not be suffering this. At the end of the day, I am sure you all just want to make music like i do. After all that is why we bought this program. I do not (when I know the computers that i use are powerful enough) want to spend my valuable time troubleshooting for Apple. On our session today we abandoned using Logic 8 with many clients and also potential customers for Apple being turned off by all the ******** goings on.
Ah well back to 7 at least we can get through a take. Logic Pro or Garage band pro what is it
SORT IT NOW before its too late.

Er... well my Logic 8 runs perfectly. Just as stable as 7 if not better. And in answer to your question, yes TONS of people are making music with Logic 8 without problems. If you're a top London Music school and an Apple cert training centre, then you should have access to the resources to sort the problem out, because whilst everyone gets the odd crash, it sounds like your setup is practically a no-starter. Which means its probably system specific. Which also means your going to have to go back to square one and identify the problem. Do post more info about your issues if you want them fixing rather than ranting about Logic because its not helpful or constructive. Then maybe people will try and help!

• IWeb is actually making my pictures bigger - can I make it stop?

I am taking a 100kb jpeg, then saving for web in Photoshop and exporting as either a 20kb jpeg, png or gif. I've tried all 3 file types and they all have the same result. When I bring them into iWeb, use at original size, no stroke, no shadow, no reflection, nothing and publish, in the page contents folder the image practically doubles or triples in size. I have tried turning the image optimization feature both and and off, same result. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Do you resize the image in any way once it's been added to the page? That will cause iWeb to make changes and thus increase the file size.
To make sure the photo remains the same size as the original select it, go to the Inspector/Metrics pane and click on the Original Size button.
If the button is not grayed out the image is not the same size so click on the button.

• Home Hub 3, 802.11b/g/n Not Working Well With Stre...

Hi, the iPhone 4S keeps disconnecting from the HH3 when normal web browsing or streaming media on an iPhone 4S, using apps YouTube and Twitch.TV. Other symptoms is the WiFi icon flashing off and on very quickly.
This happens on 802.11n and I changed to 802.11b/g which seems to solve this. Now that Home Hub 5 is out, it looks like we are 2 versions behind?
Software version 4.7.5.1.83.8.94.1.11 (Type A)
Last Update: 18/07/13
Operating System: Ubuntu.

By using channel 5 you are overlapping with two other channels that are used by wireless routers so you could be actually making things worse. Channel 12 is better but still overlaps with 1 channel. You should look for the least congested channel on either 1,6 or 11 which are the only channels that do not overlap with other routers.

• Making different signals for different color average of the pixcells

Hello, everyone.
I'll take image of paper money by webcam,
and get the color average of the bills
and fractionate the color average by wavelength range of each bills.
and I want to making signal releasing time differently for different color average of the pixcells.(to fractionate the kind of bills)
(I want different signal for different kind of bills)
my question is this:
(1)How can I connect the webcam to the Labview?
(2)How can I get the color average of paper money?
(3)How can I make Labview program for releasing different signals which has different releasing time for each color average?

Hi 박지성,
you can use the IMAQ for USB Driver. See this link http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5030. You can also use the integrated windows dll to get your picture.
Hope it helps.

• Bumper is only an insulator preventing signal loss not a reception fixer

Many get confused and start complaining about their reception when the bumper is mentioned, and that it doesn't help them.
The bumper is only an insulator, as every other case, some better dielectrics than others.
The bumper will NOT fix your reception problems if you have them. That's why some of those who go out and buy bumpers may not see improvement. Their signal will not change, but their reception will be the same.
The bumper will help ONLY in cases where you have GOOD reception and then lose it as it gets degraded when holding the phone from the line or just plain pick it up and try to use it.
Additionally, those who call for Apple to give out free bumpers should take the above into consideration, as they are not for everyone. Why?
Because A) Many don't need them, and B) They won't help if AT&T or your carrier in your area isn't doing it for you. The bumper is not a signal/network amplifier/helper/fixer. It's just an insulator.
There are some reporting issues and signal differences between a 3Gs and an iPhone 4 in the same area. I have seen that with my 4 and my 3Gs, occasionally, but for the most part they agree, and seem to work as expected for their particular specs. I mention this because there may still be something to fix there, for both, by Apple, and I have seen it mentioned here too. But, it has NOTHING to do with the bumper, and the bumper won't make a difference.
Those are my thoughts. Perhaps they will help some get real answers and not fake hopes that their network problems will be fixed by an insulator. I am just trying to clarify the different areas that are being discussed and are currently being lumped together as one, because they aren't.
Consumer Reports, btw, is ONLY talking about this issue in their recent tests, the signal drop without a bumper issue, not reception problems, not network problems, but the POTENTIAL of dropping a call or having network issues by holding the phone from the line. Nothing more than that! I have more to say on that but, again, I do not want to send mixed messages.

Funny because she has noted on MANY other posts that she got a bumper and never touches the area where there is a problem, agreeing that there is an issue here, and then turns around and says "i don't need a bumper to use my phone."
I think she believes that if you have a car whose steering wheel falls off when use your hands that is a non issue, as you can always use your feet. The fact that the OP points to a thread in which you can pretty much divide people into two categories.
1. Disagree with Zebra entirely
2. Are not having the issue but still sympathise that there is obviously a problem with reception due to touching bare skin to the antenna for some people out there which is rectified by getting a insulating piece of plastic.
Which is what's funny, the OP started one thread, completely lost control of it because the OP is not willing to listen to any reason or sense towards those experiencing the problem so started a new topic hoping to be in control again.
The problem is, the bumper does HELP reception, by stopping your conductive hand touching the metal antenna. The signal goes down when touching the metal antennas over the black divider, this is almost certainly because you are bridging the two antennas, as it can be caused by just a paperclip across the two, or the tip of your finger.
Again, the bumper stops this shorting as it is plastic.
AKA the bumper does prevent signal loss, which allows for BETTER reception.
When you touch this point, signal goes down, and call quality drops (aka the reception is lowerd.) In case your still wondering, becuase we all know she will be, lets consult OXFORD.

• Proximity Sensor Issues and Signal Issues

I've had my N3 for about 3 months now I think. I don't know if I was just really in love with it at first or if it's actually consistently getting worse. I think it's getting worse, because I still love it, sometimes.
The most annoying issue just started in the last few weeks. I've read about a lot of other people having this same issue as well so I know it's not just me. When making a call and putting the phone to my ear, typically the screen turns off as it should. Then moving the phone away at the end of the call and the screen comes back on. Well now it doesn't come back on. I have to physically push a button to get the screen back on so I can end the call. Last night I made an a call and put the phone to my face and it didn't turn off either. This makes for particularly awkward periods of time where you can't say anything because you can still hear the other person on the phone and can't get your to hang up. Very annoying when you're in a hurry because you stepped out to answer a call or something. This also seems to be a well documented problem.
The more persistent issue started a while back with the software update that claimed to "Improve Connectivity" in November I think it was. I spend a lot more time without 4G since this update. I live in a big-ish city and I never had so many issues losing 4G with my Droid Charge. But now I frequently drop 4G and go back to 3G or quite frequently down to 1X. This is particularly common in buildings, which I understand could present issues but we're talking about 1 story buildings, 20 feet or so from the front wall which is mostly windows. I often can't use my phone inside at all unless theres wifi. On a recent road trip we stopped at a gas station and my wife pulls out her S4 and checks facebook, sends some messages, checks her email, etc. I pull out my phone and have no signal AT ALL. Can't even text or make a call, have the circle with a line through it. After several minutes of fumbling through turning mobile data on and off, airplane mode on and off I finally get a bar and a 1X connection.
This is a practically brand new $300 (only because I signed a contract, really what $600?) phone that I can't rely on to make phone calls while a mile off the interstate at a gas station? I don't expect 4G there maybe, but phone calls.. yeah that should work. Everywhere. Alright maybe not the backwoods of Idaho or something, but if you're within earshot of the main interstate through a state you should be able to make phone calls.
Very Frustrated,
Phillip

So I guess no one from Verizon actually reads or responds to messages here?
This is a peer-to-peer forum; VZW reps occasionally respond to threads marked as a question (this one wasn't, unfortunately), but they don't respond to every post and it's sometimes days after a post is left. And re-posting in a new thread to mark it as a question is against the forum's Terms of Service since it's a duplicate post.
Service isn't guaranteed in buildings. One thing you can try (especially when you're traveling) is turn off the phone, wait a minute or two, then turn the phone back on and allow it to re-establish a network connection. That allows the SIM card to automatically update the Preferred Roaming List (PRL), which may help. If it doesn't, try turning off the phone, removing the SIM card (be careful not to touch the gold contacts), then re-insert the SIM card, turn the phone back on, and allow it to re-establish a network connection. If that doesn't help, you could try a new SIM card (they're free at your local Corporate Verizon store).

• OS X 10.7.3 WiFi - worse than before?

Ever since first buying this iMac (2011, i5, 69701GB, 8GB, 1TB) it did not find my wireless network when waking from sleep. Sometimes I had to turn the WiFi off and on to get it to work.
Subsequent updates and upgrading to Lion helped - a bit. Now I only have to refresh the list of available networks and my connection resumes automatically. A pain but I can live with it.
The latest update which claims to fix WiFi has actually made it worse though! Now my WiFi show zero signal when resuming from sleep and does not reconnect to my home wireless network. I have to manually select it and then it reconnects.
Any ideas?

To answer my own question it seems a workaround is to wake the iMac up using the power button rather than the keyboard. The WiFi reconnects this way.

• Panasonic sdt750 breaking signal . Fix from camera or FCP express?

Hi. I got the Panasonic sdt750 and since I don't know this camera very well I went to a party and every time that a photographic camera took a picture, the video breaks for 3 or 4 frames. How can I fix this? From the camera? With FCP express? I noticed that the other Canon I have don't break signal in front of flashes..Thanks..

It's an artifact of CMOS sensors called Rolling Shutter.
The Canon probaly uses CCD sensors.
See here for some details:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rolling_shutter
The newer FCP X program has tools for correcting/(making less worse) the issue.
You can download a free trail version if you wish to explore the feature.

• Satellite L50-B-1N8 - weak wifi signal

Hi,
So two weeks ago I purchased a new Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1N8 laptop from Argos.
It has never had too good a wifi signal strength (never full bars - even when sat next to the wifi router) but I figured that was due to my wifi box and maybe also the rubbish weather we've been having.
However I still have my old laptop, and when checking the wifi signal side by side, my old Samsug Laptop was picking up full or almost full signal whilst this new Toshiba was picking up one bar at a push.
I have since taken the laptop to my parents and it struggles to get good wifi signal, if any signal there also.
This is super frustrating as it will pick up wifi, it will just pick up a very weak signal or none at all and as soon as I move my laptop .. literally a couple of centimetres, it will change wifi signal or my wifi signal will cut out and it will be unable to connect.
I have done everything possible that I can think of, from troubleshooting to actually factory resetting my laptop, none of which has worked so far. The factory reset seems to have actually made it worse rather than better!
Like I say, my router is not the problem here, I have my old laptop that connects fine, along with two other laptops and mobile devices that all have connected to the wifi fine and with full signal!
I have turned all these devices off from wifi to see if that's the problem, but that did not help either. I also have a wifi booster in the house, so all the devices have full or very nearly full signal, but that seems no help to this Toshiba.
I am losing my tether, is there anything else I can do? I am still in the Argos 30 day guarantee if the laptop is faulty, but I just cannot think of anything else to try. I just hope that if the Laptop is faulty that Argos will help and either refund the laptop or exchange.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated. :)

I think first of all you should check if the wireless performance issue isnt related to the power saving settings.
Go to control panel ? Windows power options.
Choose the current power plan
Now you should click on Advanced Power Settings.
Within Advanced Power settings you will find different options, Search for Wireless LAN (WiFi) and choose Performance for both options (battery and Main power)
After that reboot the unit.
Hopefully this short change would help you.

• Cellular signal becomes false positive

Everything works fine, except after a while the cellular signal becomes a false positive. By this I mean the upper left corner continue to read "Verizon 4G LTE" with a few bars, but there's actually no signal. All apps that require the Internet doesn't work. It's an easy fix though — in Settings, the Cellular Data has to be turned off, then turned back on. And by "after a while" I mean when it falls into sleep mode after a FaceTime session, then awoken. Not sure exactly how long afterwards. Not sure if it's consistently after one nap or longer. Not sure if running other apps would do the same thing.
Question is:
Is this normal?
I can imagine the upside is that you don't waste data in a prepaid data plan like when background apps continue to run.
The dreadful downside, however, is that any incoming FaceTime call cannot get through.
If this is NOT normal, is it a common glitch/bug/quirk? And how to fix it?

You can't begin measuring velocity until it is positive unless you have already been measuring velocity.
The solution is to always do the measurement. Evaluate it with a >0. In the true condition, then do whatever it is you want to do.

• New router WRT160N, but still same poor signal!!

Hi all,
Been having issues with my wireless signal being poor and/or intermitent. I won't pretend to be computer literate, but I asked a Techie friend about this, and he suggested that I but a new router with the "N" signal.
My desktop signal is fine, but i have 3 laptops, and can be 30 feet away and get a fair/poor signal. When I go into the bedroom, which is upstairs, and in the furthest distance away from the router, the signal gets even weaker.
My Techie tried everything to bump up the signal, trying all channels, and even moved the router around the room. No luck!!
My house isn't made of steel, so there is no logical explanation for this... is there?
Please help me, and remember...I'm not real swarthy with the computer jargon,
thanks very much

Try to change the Wireless Settings on your Router as mentioned below, i think it will improve the wireless signal strength on your computers.
Open an Internet Explorer browser page on your wired computer(desktop). In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1 and press Enter...Leave Username blank & in Password use admin in lower case...
For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
Click on the Wireless tab
- Here select manual configuration...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...
- Provide a unique name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box in order to differentiate your network from your neighbors network...
- Set the Radio Band to Standard-20MHz and change the Standard channel to 11-2.462GHz...Wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on Save Settings...
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the Network Identifier...
For Wireless Security : -
Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security...
Change the Wireless security mode to WPA, For Encryption, select TKIP...For Passphrase input your desired WPA Key. For example , MySecretKey , This will serve as your network key whenever you connect to your wireless network. Do NOT give this key to anyone and remember the key.
NOTE : Passphrase should be more that 8 characters...
Click on Advanced Wireless Settings
Change the Beacon Interval to 75,Change the Fragmentation Threshold to 2304,Change the RTS Threshold to 2304 and Click on Save Settings...
Now see if you can locate your Wireless Network and attempt to connect...
