Bumper engineering SNAFU?

Ok, so I have marginal signal at my home and the deathgrip was a real issue for me. I ordered the Bumper and that problem is much better...BUT, now I can't use my iPhone in the car without taking it out of the Bumper. I like the Bumper in all other aspects, prefer it over any other case I have found so far...
Seems there are two sizes of 30 pin dock cables, one is smaller and fits neatly in the Bumper, the larger ones do not. Having swapped all of my cables for the smaller ones, I am able to sync and charge, but cannot locate a cable extender which will allow me to play iTunes in my car. It seems all of the extension cables out there either state they are not compatible with the bumper, or are silent but appear to have the larger connector. Google "iphone 4 30 pin extension cable" to see examples of what I am looking for. The cable that plugs into my headunit has a very large connector, it wont work with any case. I ordered one of these extenders which worked with my iFrogz case, but is too large for the Bumper.
Anyone run across anything like this with the smaller connector. It seems the 9mm by 6mm 30 pin connector fits, but the larger 1.6cm by 7mm connectors do not.
My local Apple store was very unsympathetic, they shrugged it off and said I would have to get used to removing the bumper whenever I want to use my phone...that is neither acceptable nor professional...but I am sure they are plenty fed up with this iPhone 4 SNAFU as well...

It is probably not a great solution but I just sanded my connectors down until they fit.

    Model 3000 K100 #57061330
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 3072MB DDR2, 500GB HD, Vista Home Premium
Had computer for about 3 weeks now, been getting the "Warning" " The free dynamic buffer in the current system is insufficient; it is recommended to release the dynamic buffer by updating the Base Backup" pretty much daily. I update the backup and its OK for a day or so.
Not sure what the buffer is exactly,
Ram shows using 1300 of 3058
    C: 5gig free of 29gig partition
    D: 380 gig free of 418.
Using 2GB ultra II sd card for ReadyBoost
I downloaded and checked the Onekey Recovery user guide but that was pointless, 15 mb  of legal jargon, no useful info.
Any suggestions of what to do to avoid this warning??? Once the warning message appears, it pretty much stays on the screen until I update the backup. Its just plain annoying. Any help would be appreciated.

Here's what I've experienced.  If anyone has been advised of a suitable workaround, I'd love to hear it.   This has been very frustrating and is absolutely an engineering snafu from Lenovo.
I had identical issues to OP.  Quickly ran out of space on C: and had to go back and uninstall everything and re-install on D:.  Then had to make new directories on D: for My Documents, My Videos, etc.
Even with that done, there are so many files that need to go on C: that 30G just isn't enough. (pagesys is 2.5G for instance)
Tech support has told me the following: (paraphrased)
    1) If I can't remove anything else from c: the only way to fix the problem would be to use the restore to factory settings option (wiping out everything on C: (but not on D and starting that partition fresh.)    This isn't an option atm because I have some small programs and utilities (such as VPN) installed that would be a pain to reconfigure.
    2) Lenovo's One Key Recover requires the partitions to remain as when shipped to work correctly.  Any resizing of the partitions (especially C will render One Key Recover (and the system restore) useless.
    3) They do not support or recommend any partition software and doing so voids your warantee.
So...I'm between a rock and a hard place.
My last phone call to Lenovo tech support was 30 minutes ago.  I was hoping that if enough people made them aware of how much trouble this is, they might come up with a solution.  (nope)
I'm going to do a little more research to see if any of these forums users have a better solution.
If not I'm am going to
    void my warantee
    make my c: drive bigger
    uninstall Lenovo One Key Recovery
install another program to ensure my files are backed-up properly and
    never buy Lenovo again.

  • Is there a wider need for an industrial spec, hard cased, scratch and bump resistant iPad and iPhone? (one that is more robust to outdoors and an engineering environment.

Is there a wider need for an industrial spec, hard cased, scratch and bump resistant iPad and iPhone? (ones that are more robust in the outdoors and an engineering environment.) With the acceptance of app based problem solving in industry, the only obstacle to purchasing apple products seems to be their emphasis on providing an asthetic product that looks cool. Industry however, needs something that is harder wearing, splashproof/showerproof, work in the cold and dirt and is fully wipeable. If such an apple product existed I believe they would move units.

I use the ipad in a hydrometallurgical plant.  Lots of dust, harsh chemicals, and where equipment come to die.
I've used laptops/ tablet pcs.  All having a very bad problem of sucking in air to cool the computer.  The slight acid mist in the air corrodes the contacts in the computer and they last ~ 4 months.
I have moved on to using a ipad currently in a glorified zip lock bag from the internet that has been working for the last year.   I haven't dropped it yet so that's great.  Most of my applications are done in a virtualized environment where i connect in to using RDP.
It works flawlessly.  When the zip lock bag i'm usign gets too scratched up to read easily, I just replace the 10$ bag.
I do want another case.  I am waiting on the lifeproof case coming out for the ipad2.  Shockproof, dustproof, and waterproof.   Much classier than my zip lock bag solution.
Within my plant, there is 4 ipads.
they have fit the bill so far.  Only downfall of ipad for our windows enterprise system is the lack of sharepoint browsing natively within the ipad.  I can do it with RDP but come on. . .

  • ORA-20001: The printing engine..Is this related to a BIP licensing issue?

    Hello all,
The error "ORA-20001: The printing engine could not be reached because either the URL..." happens in 2 cases:
    <pre>
    1. When our BIP is down or being bumped
    2. As an APEX administrator, in workspace environment settings, the print server is set to OFF.
    </pre>
I'm thinking that this is a licensing issue but I need some clarification on what is causing the error, because all we are trying to do is bring up a PDF report that a user can open or save. BIP is not involved at this point. Is it because the report was developed using BIP that APEX needs BIP up? How does APEX even know the report was developed using BIP? Were are using APEX 3.2.1.00.12 and BIP 10.1.3.4.1
The error happens when a user clicks on a PDF icon that calls an "After Submit Process". The following is the code and the report that was created in BIP is loaded into APEX with a "Named Columns (RTF)" layout type.

    7. Enabling Network Services in Oracle Database 11g
By default, the ability to interact with network services is disabled in Oracle Database 11g release 1 (11.1). Therefore, if running Oracle Application Express with Oracle Database 11g release 1 (11.1), use the new DBMS_NETWORK_ACL_ADMIN package to grant connect privileges to any host for the FLOWS_030100 database user. Failing to grant these privileges results in issues with PDF/report printing, specifically, you will get the following error message:
ORA-20001: The printing engine could not be reached because either the URL specified is incorrect or a proxy URL needs to be specified.
Follow the steps mentioned in the Oracle Application Express Installation Guide, Enabling Network Services in Oracle Database 11g. Also refer to the troubleshooting section in case you receive an ORA-44416: Invalid ACL error after running the previous script.

  • RT cRIO: Shared Variable Engine Errors

This is an app written in LV2011 running on a cRIO-9076 (Scan mode), with the August release of software installed on it.
I have gown to great lengths to try an optomize my code, I have reached an impasse.  The VERY FIRST TIME I run the code on the target (be it via a self-starting EXE or targeting from my Windows development machine I am able to read and write to several shared variables, but then when I access them again (possibly when I am starting a couple timed loops and the processor is very high) I get this:
Error -1950679023 occurred at Shared Variable in targetIdleLoop.vi->ZDAQ_cRIO_Target_Main.vi
    Possible reason(s):
LabVIEW:  (Hex 0x8BBB0011) The connection to the server was disconnected.
This error or warning occurred while writing the following Shared Variable:\\ZeeAero-RIO1\variables - network - RT (separate)\RTStatus\\10.10.10.10\variables - network - RT (separate)\RTStatus
If I go back to the Dev machine and restart the code, I don't get this error; it only happens after a reboot.
BUT on this second run (or subsequent VI starts), when we get to that same point, a client priogram running on Windows and reading a network variable successfully suddenly gets:
LabVIEW:  -1950679035 (Hex 0x8BBB0005) Unable to locate variable in the Shared Variable Engine.  Deployment of this variable may have failed.
Which lasts a minute or so, then goes away.  The code is made to loop, and when it loops back through this point there are no errors at all.
    So, to recap:
1st Run after reeboot, 1st loop :Error on Target (0x8BBB0011), connection to server disconnected
Subsequent Runs, 1st loop: Error on Windows Client (0x8BBB0005) Unable to locate variable in the Shared Variable Engine.  Deployment of this variable may have failed.
Subsequent Runs, 2nd+ loop: No error
Here is a link to a screenshot of the installed SW on the Target:
EDIT:  I should mention that there are three loops running in parallel on this app; 1 is a Timed-loop (at the moment) set to a period of 10ms with 100 priority, #2 is also a timed loop and is set to 3ms with priority = 50 and the third is a WHILE loop with a 50ms wait.  The error occurs during the WHILE init phase, which happens once per run, not repeatedly.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

This is killing me.  It's obviously something to do with when the Timed loops start AND when I access the network variables.
    See the screenshot below.
Note that I read and write to several network variables in Subroutines to the left of this screenshot at startup.  The starting of the timed loops causes the issue with the shared variables.  (also note that the periods are set to 100ms and 99ms in my testing after the initial 1st loop.
Now look at the Wait at the bottom set to 10 seconds.  In this case, it will work.  There is no error at breakpoint 37 if I wait around 10s.  If I DON'T wait the 10 seconds, there is an error after the check on the BOOL "stop - Network" variable that NEVER GOES AWAY.  If I look at the CPU monitor, there is an initial bump in the cpu when starting the loops, and then it drops to about 15%.  But if I don't have that 10s wait, there is ERR 0x8BBB0011 and the CPU spikes to 75% every 5 seconds and it never goes away.
And that's only the 1st loop after reboot.  The 10s makes this work, but I still have an issue with it once I start doing individual runs (loops).

  • Search Engines gone from search box (FF V20.0)

The search engines are gone in the search box in FF V20.0. When I click the icon, it opens up the dialog box, where none of the search engines that I previously had are listed. When I click the "manage search engines" link, nothing happens.
Possibly related to W7 Roaming profile enter key issue.
Had to bump back to V19.0 for everything to work right.

It sounds like you have a third party program that has taken over your search engine, home page, and/or the default new tab page. Fortunately, this can be remedied easily:
    # At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
    # In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
    # Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
    # Click the remove button.
    # Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
After Firefox restarts, install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/searchreset/ Search Reset Tool]. This will remove the rest of the traces of this program from your Firefox.
For further information, please read [[Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page]].

  • SEO - how do search engines treat invisible text?

    Hi,
I've created a website using Adobe Muse and to be able to include a lot of information in a small space, I've created an animated tabbed panel in Adobe Edge Animate.
I've started to go through the site to bump the SEO and I've realised that the text in the Edge animations are flattened - much like images.  For search engines to recognise and use the text, I thought I could duplicate the text and position it behind the background image or turn the opacity to [0] so the user cannot see the text.  Will search engines still recognise the text?  And if it does am I damaging my site if they see it as spam or black hat tricks?
I've also split a lot of the headings up into letters so each one can be animated separately - would search engines read this as one word or a string of unattached letters?  Again, I was thinking of creating a new text box with the word spelled out but with the opacity at [0].  Is this the best thing to do or are there better ways of doing this?
    Thanks

No point in just slapping the text into a noscript tag. If there is no active JavaScript with matching content it is considered out of bounds just as well and search engines will not make anything of it. That being so, the answer is probably in your Edge file - you overdid it and instead of placing content natively in Muse using widgets crammed in everything there. So short of looking for fixes after the fact, you probably need to rethink your overall strategy and forego some fancy animations in favor of better searchability and user interaction.

  • How to use non system-wide installed gtk engine?

    Hello!
I want to use the new oxygen-gtk engine, but at work I have no root rights. Thats why I installed the engine into an directory on my home directory. Now I have to tell GTK where to find this new engine. I tried the following solutions, but nothing works:
    gtkrc-2.0: module_path: GTK_WARNING: module path now ignored
    "GTK_PATH=/home/user/.gtk2.0/engines": does not work
    Everytime I get:
Gtk-WARNING **: Unable to locate theme engine in module_path: "oxygen-gtk"
Is there any way to tell GTK where to find my user installed engine?

  • BPEL Engine XPATH (non?) compliance

    Hi,
what is the level of compliance of BPEL Engine 10.1.3.4 (MLR#8) to XPATH 1.0 or XPATH 2.0?
Specifically, I am interested in boolean() function. XPATH 1.0 and XPATH 2.0 specifications both state the following:
    http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath/#function-boolean
    >
    Function: boolean boolean(object)
The boolean function converts its argument to a boolean as follows:
    * a number is true if and only if it is neither positive or negative zero nor NaN
    * a node-set is true if and only if it is non-empty
    * a string is true if and only if its length is non-zero
    * an object of a type other than the four basic types is converted to a boolean in a way that is dependent on that type
    >
    http://www.w3.org/TR/xpath-functions/#func-boolean
    >
    15.1.1 fn:boolean
    fn:boolean($arg as item()*) as xs:boolean
Summary: Computes the effective boolean value of the sequence $arg. See Section 2.4.3 Effective Boolean ValueXP
    * If $arg is the empty sequence, fn:boolean returns false.
    * If $arg is a sequence whose first item is a node, fn:boolean returns true.
    * If $arg is a singleton value of type xs:boolean or a derived from xs:boolean, fn:boolean returns $arg.
    * If $arg is a singleton value of type xs:string or a type derived from xs:string, xs:anyURI or a type derived from xs:anyURI or xs:untypedAtomic, fn:boolean returns false if the operand value has zero length; otherwise it returns true.
    * If $arg is a singleton value of any numeric type or a type derived from a numeric type, fn:boolean returns false if the operand value is NaN or is numerically equal to zero; otherwise it returns true.
    * In all other cases, fn:boolean raises a type error [err:FORG0006].
    >
In bpel, if I have a switch with a case expression as boolean(bpws:getVariableData('inputVariable','payload','/client:TestRequest/client:StringValue')), this returns false only if the StringValue element is missing in the inputVariable payload. If the StringValue element is present but is empty like <stringElement/>, then this expression returns true.
    Is this a bug?

Personally, I wouldn't recommend doing that.  Just rebuild rezlooks against gtk2-2.10.x to keep things consistant.
In this case it's a completely valid solution, as the API between 2.4 and 2.10 hasn't changed for theme engines. The only thing that has changed is filechooser plugins, which is why they bumped.
The only problem I would have with this solution is that pacman doesn't know about the new files anymore, but if you're hacking around anyways, the filelist in /var/lib/pacman could be updated to match the new location aswell

  • MBP Configuration for Audio Engineering

I know there are a LOT of threads about the configurations, but I wanted this one to be more tailored to audio engineering.
I'm not very knowledgable about computers, and really this is my first time buying one (my current desktop is a hand-me-down from my sister I got when left for college). I'm pretty set on buying a 17" MBP because I want the matte screen. This being the case, it's time to start upgrading (if necessary).
My initial thought is to go all out upgrade the HDD to 320GB at 7200rpm, 2.93GHz processor, and get 8GB of ram. I will be running ProTools 8 and Logic 8, and a few of my other friends have the basic older generation macbooks (not pro - and no upgrades) and they don't run into many problems when running either ProTools (earlier versions) or Logic - only if they have a considerable amount of tracks going with a few plugins.
For actual recording use, I will most likely only be using this through an mbox or an 8-track (just personal use to record new guitar ideas and band practices/demos). But with the much bigger recording projects I do at school, I would like to bring these home to work on the editing and mixes.
I'll definately upgrade the HDD since it's only $50 do to so, but I'm questioning if I should upgrade the processor to 2.93GHz ($300) and the ram to 8GB ($1200!! - WOW). What are the pros to having these upgrades? Is it really worth the additional $1500?

Hi, PansSiren, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
Clint, in his understated way, is right on the mark. You'd be flat-out crazy to pay $1200 for the extra RAM before you even know whether your software or projects will make use of it. They may not, and odds are good that a year or a year and a half from now (when you're well on your way to fame and fortune ), you'll be able to buy the same RAM from a third-party vendor for half the money or less.
As for the processor, the difference betwen 2.66 and 2.93GHz will be just barely perceptible, if perceptible at all, for nearly all purposes. There at least the cost difference isn't totally outlandish, but for that $300 you could buy a whopping big, fast external hard drive, and that would do you a lot more good than a 10% processor blip (calling it a "bump" would be overstating the case).
If you sell the computer three years from now, the processor upgrade might add as much as half of its $300 initial cost to the resale value of the machine. I think it's a safe bet that by then it will be possible to put 8GB of new RAM in that MBP for only $300 or $400, so you'd lose 2/3 to 3/4 of your investment in the extra RAM at resale time if you bought it now for $1200. Let the Sultan of Brunei or Warren Buffett be the first one on the block with 8GB of absurdly overpriced RAM — you don't need it that badly.

Developed an application using LabVIEW 6.1 and LabVIEW Report Generation Toolkit for Microsoft Office 1.0.1. From there, tried to build a shared application for use with the LabVIEW Run Time Engine. The Run Time version functions properly until "New Report.vi" is called and then an error is generated, code 7, calling out "Open VI Reference in New Report.vi" could not be found. When building the application, I did include the "NI Reports Support" in the advanced installer options. The machine used for original development and application build is running Windows XP Pro and Office XP. Any suggestions??

I am having the exact same problem but with LV 6.1 and M/S WORD 2000. It appears that the "New Report.vi" is trying to open "C:\APP.DIR\Word_Open.vi" and "C:\APP.Dir\Word_Open_Document.vi" by reference. The "OFFICE 2000.TXT" says that "_exclsub.llb and _wordsub.llb must be added as support files when building an application or a dynamic link library with the application builder." I added them as Support Files and I copied them to the "C:\TESTER\" where the TESTER.EXE is and I still get ERROR 7 in "NEW REPORT.VI" at VI OPEN REFERENCE.
Do I need to make a "C:\TESTER\DATA\" sub-dir and put the support files there?
I am building on MY COMPUTER on F: Drive on a network and transporting files to the real Tester.
    I displayed my App.Property of APP.DI
R at start up and it is C:\TESTER\ ! How would my application know that "Word_Open.vi" and "Word_Open_Document.vi" are actually inside the _wordsub.llb?
    Any ideas ?
