Burn a SLIDESHOW to a DVD

I would like to burn a DVD to playback a SLIDESHOW from iPhoto 09 on my television. Is this possible please?

The DVD has to be made with iDVD. So, some options:
Share -> Send to iDVD will create a Quicktime Movie and send it to iDVD for you.
However, when this QT movie is made the files are compressed into the format, and this can cause quality issues.
So: alternative 1. Export the slideshow from iPhoto using the Export button in the Slideshow Toolbar. You have a greater range of export options and may minimise the compression.
Then add that movie to iDVD from the Finder.
Option 2: Make the Slideshow in iDVD. You remove one layer of compression, however, no themes are possible in the iDVD slideshows
Remember, in any event, there is further compression when you make the DVD.

The issue with the A1400 is that like most economy compact cameras, they will not have very fast focus times in indoor lighting situations. Many people have gone to entry level DSLR's (Canon T3i) or micro 4/3 cameras. They are fairly expensive, but a late model refurbished T3i can sometimes be found with a kit lens for about $300.00. With Auto and scene modes, as well as full manual modes, these are very versatile cameras that focus very quickly, even in lower lighting situations. Canon is not really into the micro 4/3 cameras, instead they are focusing on the new G7x and G1x cameras, which are way out of your price range. The A720 is still available used at some places such as KEH camera, but you'll need to check often as their stock changes constantly. Obviously the DSLR's don't use AA batteries, but the T3i is good for about 600 photos (or more) per charge.
My refurbished DSLR was practically brand new condition when I got it. I could not find any sign of wear at all, so I feel they are a real bargain. These are rugged cameras that are made to last. The A1400 is a $99.00 camera, so it's not intended for heavy usage, plus the image quality of a DSLR (even entry level) is far better than the A1400. That would be my recommendation.

  • How can i burn a slideshow to a dvd disc and keep the same full screen hi-def quality to it? I exported it to idvd but much of the quality was lost.

Ask in the iDVD forum on what's the best way out of iPhoto and into iDVD.  The resident expert there, Bengt Wärleby, can give you the best option.

  • When I burn my slideshow to a DVD, it loses focus.  How do I retain the sharpness of my photos?

When I burn my slideshow to a DVD, it loses focus.  How can I retain the resolution of my slides?

DVD is a quite limited format and involves a very large mount of compression to get your large multi-megpixel images down to the DVD format (roughly equivalent to a 3 to 3.5 megapixel image.
Further, creating a slideshow in iPhoto (or other app) involves converting the images into a movie - and that also involves compression - so the images are doubly compressed.
It's all a matter or trial and error to find the system that works for you. Some folks export from iPhoto at the largest size possible to minimise compression in that phase, some make the slideshow in iDVD to eliminate that first phase compression entirely.

  • I am trying to burn a slideshow onto a dvd that will play on a standard dvd player and tv, but everytime I copy it I cannot play the disc except on my Macbook

I am trying to burn a slideshow onto a dvd that will play on a standard dvd and tv

You can't just copy the slideshow to a DVD as, you've found out, that won't play on a TV. You need to use a program that will render it into DVD format, complete with the proper lead in and trailers. I use Toast to do that, however, there are other programs that can do that too.

I am trying to find an app or software to burn iMovie 11 slideshow to a dvd.  I have a MacBook Pro with Mavericks.  There are a lot of DVD Creator apps at the App store. Looking for a recommendation of what to use and tips. Thank you.

I've been using "Burn" for years and it has been the only DVD burning software I have ever used for the mac. I have never needed to look at other apps. Unless you want something that has more bells and whistles such as Roxio's "Toast" : http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/pro/overview.html
There are thousands of quality free apps out there for the mac that are not part of the App Store. All you have to do is read reviews online, do a little search, the Apple forums are full of recommendations from experienced users that have been here for years...

  • How do you burn a slideshow to a DVD that will play on DVD players and PC computers?

I burned a slideshow in Aperture onto a DVD containing about 40 photos with a sound track from iTunes.  The disk will play on my iMac but not on my wife's PC or on two of our DVD players (less than three years old.).  What am I missing in the burning sequence that causes the problem?

What Shutttleworth says is the way to go however you might run into one gotcha, iDvd is no longer available if you bought your current machine with Lion on it.
iDvd use to be part of iLife but is no longer offered as either a seperate download from the App Store or as part of any App Store bundle. If you can still find an iLife boxed set iDvd will be on the DVD in the box. Other then that you'll need to look at thrid party solutions.
Of course if you upgraded to Lion and had iLife before the upgrade you should have a copy of iDvd.
    good luck

  • Burning a slideshow to a dvd.

When I burn a slideshow from iDVD, the words "my slideshow" appear on the screen. Is there a way to remove them or at least edit them?

Highlight and delete the text so you get this in the menu:
It will look like this in the finished project:

  • Burning several "slideshows / Movies" to DVD

I would like to know if it is possable to burn several short "slideshows / movies" to a single DVD and if you can, how to do it.

Yes, the only consideration would be the total Duration of the SlideShows.
Now, much of the workflow will depend on how the SlideShows have been produced. If you have have several SlideShow Projects already, go to each one, and Export/Share to DV-AVI files w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV Audio. Then, start a new DV Project, Import those DV-AVI files into it, and author with Menus, etc., and Burn to Disc.
If one has yet to start, then the SlideShows can be assembled onto one Timeline, and one would just author that to DVD.
When working with still images, I would strongly suggest Scaling the images in PS/PSE, before Importing into PrE. This ARTICLE will give you tips. Also, if the SlideShows were created in PSE, then one can Export to Premiere Elements, and if more editing is necessary, they can Break Apart the PSE SlideShow.
Where are you in the process, as that might direct you in one way, or another?
    Good luck,

  • How do I burn a slideshow to a DVD

MBP 10.9.1 with external USB Super Drive.  As an experiment, I created a slide show of 8 photos using Photoshop Elements 12 and then burned it to a DVD.  When I play the DVD on the laptop I see the the 8 photos.  But when I play the DVD on the DVR/TV I see the 8 photos AND 5 additonal frames that were blank except for the words "can not open".  What is going on?

A slideshow is considered a video and you need to have encoding/authoring software to burn it so it can be played in any DVD player. There is iDVD (no longer available from Apple, but still included in the retail iLife 09 or 11 at online resellers and ebay), Roxio Toast, or others such as Burn (free, but very basic). iDVD is the very best.
So, once you finish the slideshow/video, be sure to export it in a format your burn software can read, import it and hit burn.
I've never used PS Elements to create a slideshow, so I do not know if/which export options they offer. I use Photo to Movie for slideshows and iMovie for movie clips.
If you simply put the photos in a folder, then you can use Finder to burn them as individual photos/files.

  • How do I burn imovie slideshow to a DVD??

I created a slide show in imovie. 77 slides, transitions and music. This is my first creation in imovie. How do I get it onto a DVD which will play on my TV?
I went to the burn project, says that won't play, looks like I have to send it to idvd, but I don't want to drop it into one of their backgrounds.
I have looked in all my books, but they don't seem to make sense to me. Can someone give me instructions geared toward a 3rd grader??? I think that is my level.
    Thanks!
    Colleen

    Colleen,
To create a DVD playable on a TV set you will have to use iDVD. If you don't want to see any menus, export your slideshow as DV video from iMovie.
Then use that DV format movie in this procedure: http://homepage.mac.com/profpixel/AutostartDVD/autostart.htm that I put together a couple of months ago as a result of requests in the iDVD forum.

  • Can't burn iPhoto slideshow to a DVD. Can you help?

I have made a slide show from photos in iPhoto.  It works fine and I have published it to my "me gallery".  I now want to make a DVD of this slideshow.  I have tried to use an old version of Toast and I get an error message after the slideshow has been formated and "supposedly" burned.  I've tried to burn it from the iTunes application and that doesn't work either.  Can anyone help?

The only way to get a slideshow into iDVD with the transitions, music, etc. that you see in iPhoto is to use the "Create" button in iPhoto to create the slideshow:
Then create the slideshow in the slideshow mode and use the Export button at the bottom to export the slideshow at a QT movie.
Since iDVD resized media down to 640 x 480 choose the size closest to that, but larger. Then open iDVD, select your theme and drag the movie into the menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good and you can then burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Help with burning a slideshow to a DVD...

I'm using iDVD and I have about 260 photos in a slideshow with audio and I burned it to a DVD and it stops playing after it shows the 99th photo. I read online that it is limited to 99, so I altered the project into three seperate slideshows accessible from the menu. I synced music with all three of them and then burned the DVD. This DVD works except for the fact that the first slideshow has no audio, but the second two have audio. If someone could please tell me what is going on and how I can get this to work?
    thanks.

    Welcome to iDVD Discussions.
Are all your iApps updated? QuickTime at 7.1.3?
Where did the music come from that is missing? Audio CDs? iTunes?
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save as Disc Image...

This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • How can I burn a slideshow to a DVD from with in iPhoro?

I have several slideshows that I spent a long time working on on a old drive that I don't use. How can I bring the slideshows across in tact so that I don't have to spend a huge amount of time organizing the photos again and, even worse, having to redo all the manual Ken Burn's effects so that zoom right from one part of the photo to the other part.
I suppose I could send the slideshow to iDVD but I don't think I would then be able to import it into iPhoto.

Yes. To get a larger, widescreen, QT movie you will have to use iMovie. I recommend you useiMovie HD 6 as it's much better for adding music, etc.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.
