Burn a windows dvd to run on my mac

I hope someone can help me on this.
I was given a promotional tourist DVD that looks very interesting. When I put it into my MacBook Pro it shows up on the desktop but I can't run it because it seems to be for Windows only.
These are the files on the DVD:

file://localhost/Users/richard/Desktop/Atlas_SNG_v3/Intro_SNG.exe
The last one is why I think I cannot open it. I have never had a PC but I know that .exe is a Windows thing.
Is there a way I can burn/convert this DVD to run it on my Mac?
Thanks.

thanks for the help guys.
After reading the posts, I did a little work-around:
Installed Shockwave on Safari.
Copied the DVD to my computer.
Opened the .dxr files one by one on my Mac.
So that let me see the files at least.
Now I am going to try burning everything except the .exe file to a disk and see if that will run on my Mac.
Not sure about the autorun.inf file but it's better than nothing.

  • Burning a windows DVD from iPhoto 09

Dose a Windows DVD burned from iPhoto have the information on board to allow printing of the photos, I seem to recollect one had the choice of including this info prior to the burn, but cannot remember from where.

It worked for me and I'm using iPhoto '08. I was trying to see how to make the MAC created DVD readable on Windows. see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2135626
Thanks for the simple instructions. You made my day.

  • Build a application in windows system and run it in MAC OS

    Hello,
I have built a labview application in windows system. I would like to run it in MAC OS. How can I make it?
I tried to install the labview run time for MAC OS into the computer and run the application, but it cannot be runnable.
I don't know if possible to run a labview application in MAC OS, which is built in windows system.

    Hi Jimmy,
nope. LabVIEW doesn't have an inbuilt cross compiler (atleast not for Win vs MacOS)...

  • Does Windows 2008 Server run ok under Mac Mini Bootcamp?

Does anyone have any experience of installing and running Windows 2008 Server on a Mac Mini (of which has either Mac OS or Mac OS Server installed), under Bootcamp?
I currently have an old Dell with Windows 2008 server which acts as my Domain Controller, Exchange Server for a small home-office network. It's due an upgrade as the hardware is so old (and noisy!) and like the idea of having a nice compact, quiet Mac Mini, but want to make sure it can carry out the same duties under bootcamp on Win2008?

Windows 2008 can be installed in Boot Camp.  However I don't believe it is officially supported by Apple so there may or may not be issues with installing the Boot Camp Drivers (or future updates to the Boot Camp drivers.)  Not something I'd be recommending for a "production" environment.  If this is a test/dev system, then probably worth trying, depending on how critical your network uptime is.
Also, you didn't mention if your Dell came with Windows 2008 preinstalled, but if it did, then likely it has a "branded" version of Windows that won't activate correctly on non-Dell hardware.  (If your Windows disks have "Dell" on them, they won't work with the Mac.)  So you may need to purchase a retail or volume license copy of Windows 2008.
In general, for a server running as a DC & Exchange, you'd want RAID1 as a minimum so that would be the Mac Mini Server, not the "desktop" Mac Mini.  Unless you have one lying around, you're looking at something around $1500-$2000 to start, depending on whether you can transfer your existing Windows 2008 & Exchange installations.  (Another $500-$2000 depending on what vesions of Windows & Exchange.)  And probably 8GB of RAM since Windows 2008 & Exchange on 4GB is pushing it.  Considering the costs, I suggest you look at the Dell T110 series or the HP Proliant 110 series.  Both lines are very quiet and are supported for Windows 2008 from the factory, including Windows Small Business Server, which includes Exchange.  While not as small as a Mac Mini, they are mini towers and about the size of a typical PC desktop.
If you really wanted a small footprint, then HP has a "microserver" series.  You'd probably need to call HP to get the build you want as the online ordering is limited for that model.  From Dell, there is the Zino model desktop.  Again, not supported for a "server", but you were going to consider a the non-server version of the Mac Mini, then the Zino has at least a chance of you reusing your existing versions of Windows if they're Dell branded, thus saving your something in the range of $500-$2000 for new software.  (But I would NOT recommend a non-server chassis without RAID1 hard drives, so the Zino is not my choice.  I just offer it as a possibility if you accept the risk of an unsupported installation, as would have been installing Windows 2008 in Boot Camp.)
So yes, it will work.  But I wouldn't recommend it for a production environment, especailly if you have the "desktop" computer without RAID1.

how can I burn Photo to a dvd

    Hi Martha1963,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below will show you how to burn your data to a DVD using the Finder application.
Click on the link to see more details and screenshots.
    Disc Burning Quick Assist

Burning CDs and DVDs using the Finder in Mac OS X
Use the Finder in Mac OS X if you want to burn specific files to a disc.
Note: If you want to back up your entire system, you should use Time Machine (with a hard disk). Burning discs is a good choice for copying select files to a disc, rather than your entire system.
In Mac OS X, you can either:
Insert a blank disc, drag files you want to burn to the disc, then click Burn or choose Burn from the File menu. See this article for more information.
    or
You can create a Burn Folder named with what you want your disc's name to be, fill it with content you want to burn to disc, click Burn when ready, and insert a disc when prompted. To create a Burn Folder, in the Finder choose New Burn Folder from the File menu.
    Cheers,

  • HELP NEEDED!!! Windows DVD Maker -- Video's will not work/burn, at all.

I've registered just for this problem as I've tried just about everything imaginable.
What's happening is that when trying to make a DVD from a video file (photo slideshow plus music works fine) that Windows DVD Maker will get to around 74% encoding and then just stop and give me the error message (at this point the progress meter skips to 99%):
    "Cannot create the DVD
An error occured when burning the DVD"
I've tried this using an avi file, (I know it works as I have used DVDFLick and its works great,, the menus are no where near as nice as windows dvd maker), and the sample video file included windows (I beleive its a wmv file).
I have looked at the event viewer, heres my error (which seems pretty common doing a google search):

OK so here's what i tried:
    1. Small video files, the sample one in the public folder, other 700mb avi files.
    2. Unchecked all the codecs in the options menu, then checked one at a time, then checked both, *one is AC3Filter, the other is Avi Decompressor from memery, located in the system32 folder, so not sure why it registered there if it's a windows included codec???).
    3. http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/mpeg-2-encoder-is-missing/page/2
Have followed this guys instructions on re-registering the required dll files (which I have checked and they are there in the System32 folder). Though when doing this using the "Run" in the start menu for the command "regsvr32 msmpeg2adec.dll" I get the error:
"The module "msmpeg2adec.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005."
Then I use the command prompt (opening as "Run as Administrator", even though I am an administrator user????) run all the same things, and everything succeeds fine, no errors (but like I said, if don't run as admin, get the same DllRegistryServer error, even though I am an administrator)
Restart the comp. and what do ya know, still doesn't work, same problem, same error.
    3. Pictures and music, which burn fine and work fine on a dvd player.
    4. Have checked the temporary file where the encoded files are dumped. ie:
    C:\Users\******\AppData\Local\Temp\AuthorScript*****.tmp
Have opened the video file in WMC (Media Centre), works fine, no audio but that's still seperated at this point, so no worries there). I noticed though that the AC3 file or audio is at 0kb, and the second it is created when DVD maker is doing it's thing, I get an error, hmm not sure what's goin on there???
    5. Have used Vista Media Center Decoder utility. Results were:
    Video: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder
    Audio: Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder
There are no other options (haven't needed to install other codec, don't use Nero either).
I have Windows 7 Pro (64bit), so I have all the necessary codecs built in. (As mentioned, I do have Ac3filter, but that's disable/unchecked in DVD maker, maybe that's the problem???). I would rather not download and install additional codecs.
Oh and it gets to 74% encoding then skips to 99% and the error pops up. From experience making a "picture and music" DVD, 74% is about when it starts burning, or when it merges the video and audio to make the vob file/s. It actually skips quickly to 80% and starts burning (slideshow DVD).
Computer is custom built, it not a HP or anything like that, so I don't have those .ax file extensions in system32 (for those who have seen an answer here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/itprovistaapps/thread/5cb0a40d-223c-4aed-87c4-3c63f400ee81)
So any idea's/suggestions? I know this will help a lot of people as it seems a common problem. I'm pretty tech savvy, so will try to follow any suggestions carefully.
Ohh and finally, for all those who reply thank you, thank you, thank you, even it if doesn't work, any suggestions are appreciated. And for reading my post, thank you, I realise it's a mighty long post. I hope my linking to multiple sites is okay.

I am attempting to burn a DVD from a Divx avi file with an mp3 audio track. I tried twice burning a DVD using Windows DVD Maker and had same result both times. Great picture, correct aspect etc but no audio. I played the DVD on a DVD player and on my laptop
    - same result. I should add that I used the preview facility on the software and there was audio. But when I burned the DVD - no audio.
I searched through a few forums, including this one, and tried the recommended procedure of going via Windows Movie Maker. I opened the avi in Movie Maker and chose the DVD option, a message appeared saying that the video would open in Windows DVD Maker which
it did. I clicked on burn and yes, I got picture plus sound. However now the picture was stretched and distorted along the top half of the screen with a green band filling the lower half. I tried once more being careful not to make any silly errors and same
    thing.
Divx avi with an mp3 audio track is a very commonly used format so it is surprising that Microsoft haven't configured the software to accommodate this and a number of other common formats such Xvid avi, mp4, m4v etc. with mp3 audio OR ac2 audio.
Surmising that Windows DVD Maker would at least be able to deal with a Windows movie file (a wmv file) I converted the avi to a wmv using AVS Video Converter (a piece of software which I use regularly). NB When converting it's wise to use advance menu to change
frame size to 'original' in order to preserve quality and aspect ratio. There are many other video converters on the market but AVS is a good one.
My supposition was correct DVD Maker produced a perfect DVD from the wmv file. It's unfortunate that Microsoft haven't found a solution to this problem because otherwise DVD Maker does a fine job.
    CONCLUSION
Convert your file to an hmv file and then use DVD Maker

  • Will my internal dvd burn a video from windows dvd maker and if so how ?

I have downloaded some educational documentaries and am wanting to burn to DVD but when I try I get a error message "DVD burner not found".   Will windows dvd  maker recognize my internal dvd burner ? I have a 6 month old hp g6 # qc399av... these were downloaded to realplayer ad then transferred to windows dvd maker... It will play but will not burn... what do I need to burn these ?
I have checked and all of my updates appear to be current as of yesterday 3-16-12

Yes you can run programs from a differnt drive. All you have to do is download that prgram to that drve same as you would to the c:drive by defualt we will have to reload everything as if you never had itunes.
1 make a folder on your drive called itunes.
2 go to the website and get the itune ( click on the download link and when it ask to run or save click save and tell it where to save.
    3. After save is complete click on the install app. it will default to install to you c drive. Change this to your desired drive and folder. (this will install it on that drive and folder.) then you will have to make a shortcut to open Itunes.
4 If you more than one pc configure in the same order and # of drive you will be able to run this drve from any pc.
I do this with alot of programs at work from a 4gb penn drive to get around the firewall and admin rites. (I.T. department)

My TV digital optical out is hooked up to my stereo digital optical port 2 without any 5.1 problems either, sort of.
My BP530 is hooked up to my stereo digital coax to digital coax but I cannot get any 5.1 sound at all. Not through any of the digital channels on the stereo at all.
The player only comes through as standard stereo through all 4 speakers and I am not sure if it is coming through the base speaker at all.
I have tried every setting on both the TV and the blue ray player to no avail. I have even tried to not use the digital on my blue ray but when the stereo is set to play from my tv optical I still don't get 5.1 sound.
When I do not use the TV optical out but I do use the digital coax out from the DVD player I still cannot play my DVDs in 5.1. I have new HDMI 15gbps HDMI cables and a new digital coaxial cable so I don't think it is a cable thing.
The real question is how do I get to hear my blue ray and DVD discs in 5.1 sound? Will this work if I exchange my blue ray player for a Denon 3D blue ray or other player?

  • DVD burner on windows computer

    Hello,
I have created a clip with iMovie 4 using my ibook. However, I only have the Combo drive and not the Super drive. Hence I cannot directly burn DVD from my ibook. I do have a PC desktop computer with Windows platfrom connected with a DVD burner.
    So my questions are:
    1) how do I export my iMovie file to burn on the DVD burner on the Windows PC desktop computer.
    2) can I burn my iMovie file as a VCD from my ibook's Combo drive, so that I can view the VCD on my DVD player.
Thank heaps for the help in advance.

I encounter the similar issue but in my situation I transfered all the fcp document files to my windows desktop computer over the network to free up some space on my mac, thinking I would be able to use the files later on on my mac thru the network. The files aren't shown in fcp file types but in exec, it wont open using imovie or final cut pro. Just wondering if there's a way to make it work. In another words can u use a windows computer to store fcp document files and then access it from a Mac over a network?

  • Multisession data DVD burned on windows don't show the folders on Mac.

    Hi,
I think that is a well discussed thread but I weren't able to find anything at this concern on google and this forum.
I've burned a multisession data DVD on Nero (windows XP). That DVD already have files burned and is multisession. After burn it, the folder that I'd copied on PC don't show up on Mac. Is there a way to burn that files on windows that can be recognised on a Mac? Is this a question of burn format? The parameters of copy on Nero was keep as default.
    Thanks in advance.

It seems like Mac OS X doesn't support multisession-burnt DVDs, no matter how you put them together. In the best case, you'll only be able to see the first session. Finalizing DVDs has no impact on Mac OS X ability to read them completely.
I learnt it the hard way when switching from Ubuntu to Mac OS X, while on the first, Nero-burnt DVDs would read flawlessly, finalized or not. I ended up being forced to burn back around 120 DVDs in one session in Nero.
So far, Apple doesn't seem to have any plan in supporting multisession DVD burning and reading in OS X. As they have a tendancy to ditch obsolete technology sooner than others, I wouldn't hold my breath on it. On a personal level, this lack of support has made my hard drive space needs skyrocket, as I'm no longer able to incrementally burn DVDs, as I always did in Windows and Ubuntu.
    Hope that helps.

  • Burn DVD using Windows DVD Creator

I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2014 in a Windows 7 environment.
DVD authoring is very much an exception for me but I find I need to do so on a project I finished last night.  The Help files are full of needing Encore (which is no longer developed) to handle this but, reading the instructions, it seems I'd have to install Pr CS6 to do this.
So...a few questions before I spend an hour (rubbish Aussie ADSL speeds) downloading something I may not need, is it possible to use Windows DVD Maker (or, at a pinch, DVDStyler) to handle this and, if so, what export settings do I need in AME?
FYI, I've tried using the MPEG-DVD preset with PCM Audio and I thought it had worked--but my 12 minute project stopped after just over 8 minutes and there was no audio.  I also tried compressing the audio to MPEG in AME with similar results.  DVDStyler seems to read the AME-generated .m2v file as wave so I've not even attempted a burn.
Another question:  if I do have to go the CS6/Encore route, will my CC 2014 project file open there or do I have to do some kind of conversion?
Any advice on the best way to do this would be very much appreciated!  I'm sure I'm missing something and this shouldn't be this difficult.

Okay, playing around I found my own solution which I'll post in case anybody else wants to burn DVDs without installing CS6/Encore.
I found a bit of software called DVD Flick (free under a Creative Common licence) that can author DVDs from a wide variety of source material--I happened to use a version done in AME on the Youtube HD (1080) preset and it worked well--good quality, the instructions were clear and concise, and the encoding was relatively fast (about 1 minute per minute of video).  If I need to burn any more DVDs in the future (not so likely but who knows) I may have a play with other AME settings but, for now, I'm happy and can recommend DVD Flick over keeping CS6/Encore just for the occasional DVD.

I creatded an imovie that runs 2hrs 14min but can't get it to burn onto a DVD.
    Any recommendations?

    Hi
    iDVD - don't care about GBs - ONLY - Time = Movie + Menus - as follows
iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
If You NEED to put in more than 120 minutes onto a SL DVD - Then I would use Roxio Toast™ as this can squees in between 7 to 10 hours onto this - BUT AT A BARELY USABLY QUALITY.
VHS tapes recorded in EP- mode will look brilliant in comparision
    Just as info:
SP = 240 minutes on a standard VHS tape
    LP = 480 minutes
    EP = 720 or more ?
