Burn bootable Mac CDs with PC

I am brand new to the Mac world as I wanted to get one to be able to test my applications across both windows and macs. I have a Power Mac G3. I realized I cannot load Firefox on it unless I have OS X. I did a little reading and it seems the best I can load is OS X Panther. So I located the disk images on our network, which were ISOs. I burned the CDs using my PCs Blindwrite. I can see the files when I put the disk into the Mac. I click on the setup and a box comes up and says "Restart to start OS upgrade" or something of that sort. But when it reboots it starts nothing. I have tried to boot holding the "C" key but it does nothing. So my guess is that it burned the CD okay but didn't make it bootable? The Mac guy is no longer with the company so I really have no idea what to do. How can I get this OS upgraded? Maybe I need another PC application to burn it with.

It's possible. You would need a PC program such as MacDrive that can read/write Mac discs. It might be easier to transfer the images to a Mac, then burn the images on the Mac.
I would assume, however, that if the images are on your servers that your site has the capability of performing network installs. I would check on that with your sys admin.
I'm not sure if you can obtain a bootable OS X disc by burning on a Mac running OS 9.
The best site for information on network installation and distribution is www.bombich.com. Maybe you will find more useful info there or on their forum.

  • Disk Utility Unable to Correctly Burn Bootable Discs From ISO Files with Yosemite (10.10.1)

My problem is with burning ISO images to make a bootable DVD disc with OSX 10.10.1. I cannot drag and drop an ISO file (in this case, Ubuntu 14.04 server iso) to the disk utility and then burn it with Yosemite.  I have to first open the ISO file, then attempt to burn it.  The DVD it creates is unreadable. I tried to convert the ISO file to CDR and also IMG - same problem: disc unreadable error.
I then went back to OSX 10.9.5 and tried the same thing - worked like a champ.  I was able to drag and drop the ISO file into the Disk Utility window and successfully burn a bootable DVD disc from the same Ubuntu ISO file I tried using with 10.10.1.
Hey Apple, what's up?  You broke Disk Utility in 10.10.1.  Has anyone experienced the same problem and found a work-around?  I hate to have to keep booting an older version of OSX to accomplish this task.  So far, Yosemite has been a bust for me with all the other problems I have experienced.  I might as well go back to 10.9.5 on all my Macs until Apple gets their act together with Yosemite.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • I have a great number of Hi8 video tapes and I would like to burn them onto CDs through MacBook Pro (ME665LL/A), but I do not know how to transfer those footage into Mac. What would you recommend?

Hello everybody! My question is; my parents and I have a great number of video tapes (Hi8 and mini DV) and since I purchased a MacBook Pro (ME665LL/A) I would like to burn them onto CDs, but I do not know how to transfer those footage into Mac. What would you recommend(it can be a software, a hardware or combination of both)? By the way, I also purchased an external DVD-RW(Asus SDRW-08D2S) separately.

Just Google "convert hi8 to dvd" and you'll find a number of software/hardware combinations that will allow you to do what you want. One important piece of the puzzle is whether or not you still have access to the video recorder(s) that the movies were shot on.
    Good luck,

What kind of CD are you burning (Audio or MP3)?
If you're burning an MP3 CD, the songs must already
    be in mp3 format.
If not, iTunes will tell you that you have no songs
    in the playlist.
    M
I was making an audio cd. But I have since found out what the problem was. The files in my PLAYLIST I converted to aiff, since they were SDll files (I thought they were similar to AIFF, and they PLAY on Itunes...just won't burn.) When I selected the songs in the playlist and converted them...I thought all those files were converted, They were not. The converted files went into my LIBRARY, even tho I selected the ones in the playlist...and once I exchanged the SDll versions of the songs in my playlist. THEN they burned fine...but still...it's confusing..you say convert..it says it's been converted..and what they don't say is it's not been converted inside the playlist...where I had selected the songs...It just ADDED aiff versions..but only in the library...Anyway, that's what happened. But it's strange that it PLAYS SDll but won't burn them....and you'd think, logically..the ones you selected would change...but they don't. Playlists are mainly pointers to the actual files I guess...a sort of Alias..
At least it works now. But it's sad that the latest itunes does more, but also does LESS...as I used to be able to burn SDll files. Now I'll have to convert all my files to AIFF, and mp3's as I assume my ipod video won't play anything but mp3's?

  • Computer freezes when trying to burn cds with itunes

I don't know if this would help other people with issues related to burning cds with itunes but here it goes:
My computer running Windows XP SP2 and itunes 7.6.1.9 suddently stopped burning cds via itunes about a couple of versions ago. Burning would start correctly, however the operation never completed successfully, in fact, the computer would completly freeze before getting too far. The computer had to be hard booted, meaning I had to hold the power button to kill it. The only solution that I've come up with that effectively corrects this problem is as follows:
    Close itunes
Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
Look for IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service and open it (double-click it):
If not started, start it by clicking the Start button
    Select Startup Type as Automatic
Go to Recovery tab and set first, second and subsequent failures to Restart the Service
Click Apply and then Ok to close window
Look for iPod Service and open it:
If not started, start it by clicking the Start button
    Select Startup Type as Automatic
Click Apply and then Ok to close window
Restart itunes, try burning a cd from a playlist in itunes. There is no guarantee that this will solve your issue, but it is worth a shot, it has worked for me so far.

  • Help Please: Unable to Import or Burn CDs with iTunes

    Hello,
At some point over the last few updates I seem to have lost the ability to import or burn CDs with iTunes. I've done so many times in the past with no problem however when I attempt to do so now my entire PC restarts or in a few cases gives me the generic Windows "iTunes needs to close" error.
So far I've made sure my PC is not overheating. I've ruled out spyware or viruses using AVG and CCleaner. I've swapped out power supplies only to have the problem continue. I am able to listen to music and/or burn CDs and DVDs in both of my drives using other applications with no problem. I've tried fresh, clean installs of iTunes all the way back to 8.02 with no success. I've even gone as far as to completely reformat Windows only to have this problem continue.
Any help or suggestions would be most welcome. I will be glad to provide any requested information, thank you.

What good is buying your music through itunes if you can't burn a cd and/or back it up? Why isn't this issued solved - I can't burn a cd. I have missing registry files and warning that says to reinstall which I've tried unsuccessfully. Hopefully they'll find a fix before I lose my 500 songs I've purchased...does anyone back up on a external hard drive - any suggestions? Thanks

Do Internet recovery, download the installer, choose an external HD to install it to, when the comp restarts, disconnect the External HD before it turns back on.
Extract the Install.dmg and put it on your desktop, then use disk utility to install that onto your external HD.

    Hi Micko1965,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities!
What alert message do you see when you try to burn the CD? The article below is a good place to start, it provides general tips and links to other specific troubleshooting articles.
Can't burn a CD in iTunes for Windows
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1436
Can't burn a CD in iTunes for Windows
    Symptoms
Find out what to do if you can't burn an audio CD using iTunes for Windows. Sometimes an audio disc may not burn as expected. Here are some things to check.
    Resolution
    Update iTunes
Download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows.
    Check for unauthorized songs
iTunes will stop burning a disc if you purchased one or more of the songs in a playlist from the iTunes Store and the songs aren't authorized to play on your computer. This message should appear: "Some of the files can not be burned to an audio CD. Do you still want to burn the remainder of this playlist? For more information on why some files can not be burned, click below."
To find out which songs aren't authorized, play each song in the playlist. Songs that play are authorized. Songs that don't play aren't authorized. You'll be asked to authorize any unauthorized songs.
Make sure your playlist will fit on a single CD
If there are too many songs in a playlist to fit on a single CD, iTunes should ask if you want to burn multiple discs or cancel the burn. This message should appear: "The songs in this playlist will not fit on one Audio CD. Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them? This will require more than one blank CD to complete."
If you click the Audio CDs button, the burn will continue and you'll be asked to insert blank CDs until the playlist is completely burned. If you click cancel, the burn will be canceled.
To make the playlist shorter so that it will fit on a single CD, select a song to remove from the playlist and chooseEdit > Clear. Repeat this step until the duration of the playlist is between 60 and 80 minutes. The duration appears at the top of the playlist window. Most CD-R discs can hold 60 to 80 minutes of music.
Check how many times you've burned the playlist
An unchanged playlist that contains songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be burned no more than seven times.

  • Skip Recovery HD; make bootable clone of 2011 Mac Mini with 10.7.1 ?

Can I just skip Recovery HD palaver and make a bootable clone of 2011 Mac Mini with 10.7.1 ?
I have a large FireWire800 drive, and can partition a few gigs off on it with a GUID map.
What should I use to clone my current OSX 10.7.1 onto the external drive, and will this work?
    Thanks

I finished setting up my Mac Mini today (52 GB of sys, apps and stuff), and used Carbon Copy Cloner to make a clone onto my external disk.
    Works Great!
Now I not only have an Emergency boot Lion disk, but I also have all those apps and prefs and things in case I need to: Work Now!

I used to be able to print labels for burned CDs with the cover being the playlist name and the other side the song titles...now the titles print out compacted, overlapping each other and illegible. I thought it was the printer but it happened w/1 other printer as well,  which I used before for this exact thing w/no problem.

Try cleaning the print head with rubbing alcohol wipe, then replace your print head. Keep pushing the Ok.

  • Burning CDs with more than 5 songs

I'm not sure when this became a problem, but I know this is a new one for me.
I've been trying to burn some CDs from a few of my playlists, and if the playlist contains more than about 5 standard length (3-4 mins) tracks, then iTunes decides that the playlist is too big to fit on one CD. Even if I allow it to burn over multiple CDs it will write 4-5 songs to the first disc, and then stop the burning process when I load a second blank disc.
So, essentially, iTunes is only happy to burn about 200Mb of a standard CD-R.
I run Vista Ultimate 32 bit on a high end machine and I've been fine burning full length CDs since my change to Vista. This is the first time I've tried burning anything since iTunes last auto-updated to ver 7.4.3.1.
    Any ideas anyone?
    TIA

Any ideas anyone? This is still plaguing me!

  • Car won't read CDR of MP3's burned from MAC (works from PC)

    Hi-
I just recently switched from PC to MAC (27" iMAC - Snow Leopard).
My car can read/play mp3s from a CDR...I've been doing this successfully with my old PC. However, I just recently burned some new Data CDRs (full of mp3s) on my new iMAC and my car will not read them.
I burned the data CDRs using the program "Burn". The problem is not the type of CDRs (same kind I used on the old PC and play fine in the car).
I guess my next test will be to burn another data CDR of mp3s, but this time NOT put them in folders...just all in the root directory. I wonder if that is the problem...that my car can't read the MAC code related to the folder structure (though my car can read the folder structure burned from PCs). Even if this works, it ***** playing a disc full of mp3s all in the same root folder, in a car, cuz it never reads your file-name structure in the exact order you want it to.
I'd appreciate any helpful advice/insight anyone may have on this problem.
    Thanks!

OS X adds some additional metadata when burning data CDs. The extensions are written in such away that readers should ignore them if they don't know what to do with them, but it's possible your CD player is buggy or doesn't fully comport with ISO9660.
Have you tried burning the MP3 CD with iTunes? (Create a playlist, click "Burn Disc" at the bottom right, select "MP3 CD".)
