Burn CD after upgrade to 10.4.8

Can no longer burn CDs with my internal Pioneer 109 DVR since going from macos 10.4.6 to 10.4.8. Have tried reinstalling 10.4.8 combo. Have tried swapping my language settings in Ineternational system preference then restarting. Have tried wiping PRAM. Trashed my toast preferences. Cannot burn CD with Toast or apple burn app. Burn fails part way through process and gives error code indicating bad CD. Same CD media worked before upgrade and still works on my laptop burner which still runs on 10.4.6. Have created 6 coasters so far.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Should I revert back to 10.4.6?

  • Cannot burn CD after upgrading to iTunes 8.0.2

I have tried repeatedly to burn a CD with new version of ITunes and the burn freezes at the beginning of the first song. Have wasted 5 blank CD's trying different song lists from various sources. Is there a fix, or is there a way I can reinstall ITunes to see if something happened during the upgrade install?
I am using the CD equipment that came with my Mac.

Had the same problem with the new update. I finally got back to my previous version by using system restore. After the restore I had to go to the "All Programs" list and click on Quicktime and iTunes individually to allow them to re-configure, then had to restart the computer again. After that all's well. My lbrary was intact.
I tried everything to get the newest version to work, including completely uninstalling my current versions of QT and iTunes, then downloading the latest directly from the Apple website, but, after 3 attempts, nothing worked. Guess I'll have to wait for the next update and try again.
By the way, your library is not actually stored in iTunes--it is stored in your Music folder, so you should not lose anything by uninstalling iTunes if you need to.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!

    Hi iTunes-1,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The error message you posted indicates a possible firmware update is needed for iTunes for Windows to work with your CD drive.
iTunes for Windows: Updating the firmware on your CD or DVD drive - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201852
Having outdated firmware can cause issues using CDs and DVDs with iTunes for Windows. Firmware is a type of software stored in a chip in hardware that can sometimes be updated.Identifying drives and firmware versions
To run CD Diagnostics, follow the steps in this document.
After following the steps to run CD Diagnostics linked above, look at section three to find out more about your optical drive(s).
Here is an example of what section three might look like:
In this example there are two drives. Drive E is a Samsung DVD-ROM drive with a model designation of SD-616 that has firmware version F000. Drive F is an NEC drive with a model designation of NR-7900A that has firmware version 1.08.Updating the firmware
If the optical drive you are using came with your computer, check with the support site for your computer for a firmware update. Typically you will need to go to the support website for the computer maker and click on a "downloads" or "updates" link, and then enter your computer model designation and operating system version to see what updates are available. Then look through the available updates for a firmware update for your optical drive. Download the updater and run it. If you need assistance applying the update, contact the maker of your computer.
If the optical drive you are using came as a separate part (was not included with a computer), check the support site for the drive maker for a firmware update. Sometimes the manufacturer is not clear in the CD Diagnostics results. In that case, you may just have to search the Internet for the drive model designation. You can usually find out who made the drive by looking through the results of such a search. Once you have identified who made your drive, go to the support website for that company. Look for a "downloads" or "updates" link, and then enter your optical drive model designation. Download the updater and run it. If you need assistance applying the update, contact the maker of the optical drive.Verifying that the firmware was updated
    Run CD Diagnostics again.
Examine the CD Diagnostics results. The firmware version for the drive should be the new version.

Also, you mentioned that you have been successful burning a CD with the Windows OS.  Make sure that you have closed all software programs that can access the CD burner so that there isn't a conflict for the drive.   Sometimes chaning the burn speed from "maximum" to 8x can also help in this situation.
I hope this information helps ...

  • After upgrading to IOS 7, I can only transfer songs to my iPhone 5 that I bought on iTunes. Cannot xfer songs I burned from CD.

After upgrading to IOS 7, I can only transfer songs to my iPhone 5 that I bought on iTunes. I cannot transfer songs I burned from CD. When I drag them to my phone in iTunes, my phone appears to be updating, but the songs don't show up there.
    I'm using IOS 7.1.2 and iTunes 11.3.0.54. WIndows 7.
    Thanks.

This has worked for many folks according to the feedback I have gotten:
Un-sync all your music to remove it from the device, then restart (hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go). Now re-sync your music.

  • Does iDVD work with Maverick? This is the first time I tried to burn a DVD using iDVD after upgrading to Maverick. It seems to get stuck at encoding menu stage and not doing anything.

I tried to burn a DVD using iDVD after upgrading to Maverick, first time I tried after upgrading to Maverick a few weeks ago. It seems to get stuck at encoding menu stage and not doing anything. Does anyone else have the same problem?

I did not have a DVD handy to burn but I have just created a small 2 minute video and created a Disk Image and also a VIDEO_TS folder, the encoding worked correctly, so it works with some items.
You may get a better responce in the iDVD forum.

  • DVD burning not working after upgrading to 10.5.1

    Hi,
I just purchased a macbook and found that dvd burning stopped working after upgrading to mac os 10.5.1. I went back to 10.5 and now it works without problems. Since so far I haven't experience problems with 10.5, I will continue using it.
Anyway, I just wanted to let other users know about this problem. I didn't find any references about it in the forum.
    Best wishes,
    Manuel

    Hi,
I just got DVD burning to work under 10.5.1. I had originally formatted the OS-X partition as "case sensitive". Today I reformatted the partition as a regular Mac-os journaled partition, re-installed leopard and the upgrade, and now DVD burning works fine. I am not 100% sure, but it seems that using the case sensitive format caused the problem.

  • Has anyone had problems with burner after upgrade to Mavericks on an iMac 27"

Has anyone had a problem with the burner after upgrade to Mavericks.  It is hunting not always reading picture files keeps showing a fault when trying to burn a DVD.

I am having the same experience.  I just update this morning and now can't get mail.  Did you ever figure this out?

  • After upgrading to Lion, I am unable to read burned DVDs. Any idea what is wrong?

While I was using Snow Leopard, everything was working fine; but after upgrading to Lion, my Mac Mini (2010) is unable to read any disks that have been burned. All store purchased disks work fine, but nothing I have tried has worked for the burned ones. Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong?

Well, I did notice a few things about the disk I used that were on that list. I'm going to try burning a new copy on a new disk that has few to no scratches, not mark on it, and keep it off max speed. I'll get back to you when it's done. That may take a while seeing as it's an ISO that I'm burning and it took a good 15 minutes at max speed.

  • Not booting from 10.4.8 volumes after upgrade from 10.4.7

I'm sorry to report that my aged G4 450 MHz AGP with 4 internal Hard disk drives no longer boots from any of the 2 volumes upgraded to Mac OS X 10.4.8 as soon as it was started from another volume!
All was working fine as long as 10.4.7 was installed on the 2 232 GB disks connected to the SIIG ATA133 controller. I could boot from any OS on any of the 4 disks, 5 partitions:
    internal ATA66 bus:
18 GB disk, 2 partitions: 'IBM_18GB' with OS 9.2.2 and TechTool Pro's 'eDrive' with 10.4.7
    71 GB disk, 1 partition 'IBM_71GB' with OS 9.2.2
    PCI SIIG ATA133 controller:
232 GB disk, one partition 'I1232GB' with 10.4.7, now upgraded to 10.4.8 and no longer bootable
232 GB disk, one partition 'I2232GB' with 10.4.7, now upgraded to 10.4.8 and no longer bootable
Now I can only boot from the Mac OS 9.2.2 or the eDrive 10.4.7 partitions.
What I did so far: 'I2232GB' was my main OS X startup volume, 'I1232GB' contains a clone of it, plus additional folders like software base and backups.
After upgrading 'I2232GB' to Mac OS X 10.4.8 through Software Update and repairing permissions all was OK as long as the Mac was just shut down or re-started: it always booted up in Mac OS X 10.4.8 from 'I2232GB' without any problems.
The next day I booted from 'I1232GB' to do the same there.
Afterwards I could no longer boot in Mac OS X 10.4.8 from 'I2232GB' nor in in Mac OS X 10.4.8 from 'I1232GB': it just gets to the grey screen with the Apple logo, but the round circle underneath indicating some progress never appears. I left it there for hours: it just hangs.
With the Option key held at startup I could boot from the other partitions with Mac OS 9.2.2 or the eDrive with 10.4.7. None of their Startup Control Panels was able to get me back to 10.2.8!
So I booted from the TechTool Pro 4.5.1 DVD to Optimize both volumes, 'I1232GB' & 'I2232GB', always Files only.
Then I booted from the DiskWorrior 3.0.3 CD to rebuild the directories of both volumes, 'I1232GB' & 'I2232GB'.
Still I can not boot from either 'I1232GB' or 'I2232GB' in Mac OS X 10.2.8!
Downloaded the Mac OS X 10.2.8 Compo Update (for PPC) and installed it onto both 'I1232GB' & 'I2232GB' while booted from the eDrive which I keep on Mac OS X 10.4.7 - no luck either, still I can not boot from either 'I1232GB' or 'I2232GB' in Mac OS X 10.2.8!
Then I backed up the users folder from 'I2232GB' onto 'I1232GB', booted from Mac OS 9.2.2 and used Intech's Hard Disk Speedtools 3.6 to format 'I2232GB', afterwards initialized it with Alsoft's Plus Maximizer Extension for a Block Size of 512 Bytes.
Installed Mac OS X 10.4 from DVD, as well as iLive '06 and upgraded everything to the latest releases with Software Update. All was working fine with all the required reboots until another startup volume was chosen: afterwards again I can no longer boot back into Mac OS X 10.2.8 on the fresch installed 'I2232GB'!
    Any help would be appreciated.

    & 'I2232GB'.
Still I can not boot from either 'I1232GB' or
    'I2232GB' in Mac OS X 10.4.8!
Downloaded the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Compo Update (for PPC)
and installed it onto both 'I1232GB' & 'I2232GB'
while booted from the eDrive which I keep on Mac OS X
10.4.7 - no luck either, still I can not boot from
either 'I1232GB' or 'I2232GB' in Mac OS X
    10.4.8!
Then I backed up the users folder from 'I2232GB'
onto 'I1232GB', booted from Mac OS 9.2.2 and used
Intech's Hard Disk Speedtools 3.6 to format
'I2232GB', afterwards initialized it with Alsoft's
Plus Maximizer Extension for a Block Size of 512
    Bytes.
Installed Mac OS X 10.4 from DVD, as well as iLive
'06 and upgraded everything to the latest releases
with Software Update. All was working fine with all
the required reboots until another startup volume was
chosen: afterwards again I can no longer boot back
into Mac OS X 10.4.8 on the fresch installed
    'I2232GB'!
I found several typos in above post, wherever it was 10.2.8 it should have read 10.4.8 - I'm very sorry for confusing you, this would not have made sense, but I found no way to edit the existing text therefore I modified the quote of it here.
I do not need Mac OS X 10.2.8 back, but it would be nice to boot back in Mac OS X 10.4.8 from another volume as the current one - which was working fine before with Mac OS X 10.4.7.
    Many thanks,
    Josef

    Andrew,
This thread talks about error 2131 and Dell computers. About 3/4 of the way down someone posts a link to a firmware download that seems to solve the problem for a lot of people. Maybe it will help you too.

  • After upgrading to itunes 7.3.1.3 I can't run the backup to dics anymore.

After upgradeing to itunes 7.3.1.3.1 I can not run the backup any more. Also the CD burning runs very slow.
The DVD burner run ok with other software.
After it checks for file to be backed up it kept ejecting the blank DVD and asking for a blank disc.
I have even replaced the DVD drive with drive from another computer.I also reinstalled ITUNES once-- It ran as a repair during the install.

I have used this same DVD Burner to backup my list from within iTunes before. I did this back in June just after I purchase 30 songs. I think I was running version 7.1 or 7.2 when the DVD backup worked. If not sopport then why does their diagnostics say DVD/CD Diagnostics. Even so I have the same problem on my other PC with a CD Burner. I think Apple support sound a little like Microsoft. I once had a problem with Windows NT and had to call MS support 5 times before they said their software had a defect and issued a patch.

  • Problems after upgrading to iTunes version 6

    Hello,
I've been going through the threads a lot since I have had problems after upgrading to iTunes v. 6. It looks like a lot of people have had the same issues, and I have tried some things that were recommended. After I upgraded, iTunes would not open. I tried:
    1. deleting sidb file
    2. doing the msconfig thing suggested in discussion boards
    3. going into safe mode and deleting 4 and 6 letter weird files in DOS - I found 3 that I deleted
iTunes worked after this -- then I bought a song and it said my computer was not authorized, after I authorized computer (that never happened before), iTunes worked for about 15 more minutes and then closed down abruptly. I haven't been able to open it since.
I also downloaded Spybot search & destroy and that did not find anything. I am using McAfee, and have scanned for viruses with McAfee and AdAware.
Now, when I restart my computer, a bunch of windows pop up with Chinese/Japanese looking characters and say that device (I think) was not found. I seem to be able to use everything except iTunes and Quicktime. When I open the Task Manager, iPodService.exe and iTunesHelper.exe and qttask.exe are there, but when I click on Quicktime or iTunes the file flashes in Task Manager and then disappears.
I'm not sure where to go from here.
Any help would be apppreciated -- I'd like to be able to open iTunes!

    Hello,
    I used Nickroo's post:
I was able to get iTunes launched (with the help of Tech Support) in a very unsafe environment. I owe it to those who may need this after me. It will get you going, but you will be extremely vulnerable to internet virus assaults. Please do not use this approach, until you have exhausted every other available solution for your issue in the KB.
There are three Steps 1) Uninstall 2) Disble and 3) Reinstall.
UNISTALL Uninstall iTunes using Windows utility Add Remove Program available in Control Panel.
DISABLE Disable all third party System Services and Startup Items using using MSCONFIG utility as described in Service Document http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
    RE-INSTALL Re-install iTunes6 + QT7. Launch it under the Selective Startup Option.
It worked ! You realize among other things at this point you have your Antivirus and Firewall disabled. When I started my computer in the Normal Startup Option, iTunes fails to work again. So I have ahead of me the long and ardous task of ruling out the service that is causing conflict with iTunes6. Then work with the software vendor to arrive at a solution.
This seems to have worked so far- I haven't started to go through ruling out what made iTunes not work; I also haven't tried to connect my iPod or burn a CD, so we'll see.
