Burn CD failed and now the folder is lost

A student was trying to backup her folder onto a CD on her intel iMac. She dragged the folder onto her RW-CD and a message appeared indicating the folder was too large. However, her folder onthe desktop had turned to an alias and there were no files in it. The same alias was on the RW-CD. We searched for some of the files on the computer but to no avail.
Is this an Intel problem?? Anyone see this before? Any suggestions to recover would be greatl;y appreciated.

Could it be that the student inadvertantly deleted the said folder from the computer? I am only asking because draging the file to the RW-CD does, indeed, create an alias on it for burning, but should leave the original file intact from where ever you dragged it from.
To do a more thorough search, you can try "Spotlighting" (the magnifying glass icon on the upper right of your desktop window) the folder name to locate the missing file.

Hi, Can anyone help. Updating my iPod via iTunes failed and now shows a permanently lit screeen witrh a white apple logo above what appears to be an empty download bar indicator.
Neither iTunes or my PC will recognise or detect it wehen commected to the USB port.
All iPod buttons are responsive, including diagnostics mode (Menu+Sleep buttons).
Any ideas/suggestions?

I don't think I actually managed to get it into DFU mode, although not too sure what that is, but following Karthik's advice and although not quite getting the response from my iPod, as it suggested, it eventually came up with the USB piccy and iTunes icon. From there on everything fell into place and it is currently Synching with iTunes after having done a restore.

take your phone to the nearest nokia centre, as long as it is within warranty then they should be able to fix it or replace it, because as i beleive it is nokias fualt for creating insecure software that is unstable and should not even be made public if it kills phones.

You can't get the phone working without the correct password, because the previous owner activated Find My iPhone and Activation Lock. In order to unlock the phone you would have to ocntact the previos owner of the phone. Unfortunately, this is the only way to get it working again.

Hello. I was like this yesterday after upgrading 5.1.1. The proccess failed and the iphone only showed the USB cable with the iTunes logo.
What I did was connect the iphone to my wife's PC, and there, with a clean itunes installation, install a clean 5.1.1. Then, went back to my iMac and connect it again, and now it works.
But now, with my iphone working as new, it still cannot be showed up in itunes. I am still working on it.

I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program.

I have just installed a new hard drive in my imac intel 20" (2006) and upgraded the memory and now the hard drive does not show up in the 'select destinations' folder of the install program. I can see the hard drive in the disk utilities window however it wont let me do anything.
It is a seagate 1TB SATA II drive however it is displaying it as a 7.3 TB.
If anyone has any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.
I have tried to erase and partition and get the same error message each time, 'Input/Output error'.
I have tried starting the thing with the install disk which is Mac OS X (Tiger?) which came with the computer. No good.

Thats correct. I can see it in the list however when I attempt to erase it or partition it it's like it's not being found or recognised and it throws up the input/output error message. I am pretty sure that the sensor it attached correctly and it is a SATA drive. I can see all the infor regarding the drive when disk utility is open and it all looks good but I cant access it or do anything with it. It's taunting me!
The install disk is in the drive and the install program runs right up to the point where you have to select the location for the install and there is just nothing in the box where you have to select the hard drive icon.
I have my suspiscions about the drive but any help would be appreciated.

chflags nohidden ~/Library/

Showing the Library folder will not cause the problem you've described. Nevertheless:
chflags hidden ~/Library
will hide the folder. To reveal the folder:
chflags nohidden ~/Library
Note, there is no "/" after Library.

It's a Finder feature, related to Quick Look. You can hit the space bar in the file list to get a preview.
If that doesn't work, you may have an issue witha preference file or similar. I find rebuilding the launch databse works quite well resilving tis kind of thing, as does trashing Finder preferences
