Burn cd from iPhoto

My friend likes to edit his photos in iPhoto. Once he gets the pictures in order, a timeline or storyline, he tries to burn a CD, however, the files are burned in alphabetical order. Is there a way to burn from iPhoto and retain the picture storyline as you arranged it in iPhoto?
Thanks
Kenny

Kenny:
Yes there is. Have him export those photos to a folder on the desktop first as follows: sequentially rename them with the Photos->Batch Change->Title to Text with the attach number to each file checked. Then export using the File->Export->File Export menu option and select the Use Title option. That will give you file names as "filename-01.jpg", etc. so they will be listed in the correct order in the Finder.
Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

I am trying to burn DVDs from iPhoto slideshows.  My pictures number in the hundreds and we know that iPhoto captures 99 and then "starts over".  This plays fine from the Mac Book but glitches arise on the DVD when playing it on a DVD player.  Any suggestions on how to overcome the 99 "Chapter limitation" that IPhoto has?  Has anyone heard or tried an app called Vilisoft?  I read good things but I am not sure if it will do what I want.
    Jim

Then use multipel 99 picture slideshows.
You can have up to 8 or 9 slideshows per menu.  If you add a sub menu reduce that by 1 and add 8 more to the sub menu.  The top menu can have links to up to 8 or so submenus (depends on the theme) and each submenu can have up to 8 or so slideshows.
However, converting a very large slideshow to a QT movie as Terence suggested does not envoke the 99 slide limit in iDVD.  It just becomes a single video/movie file.  So you should not have a problem with exporting at the large size, 720 x 540,
and dragging the resulting file into the iDVD menu being sure to avoid any drop zones.

  • Burning CDs from iPhoto

When I burn an album, how come the entire iPhoto LIbrary burns onto the CD when I click on just the album?
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Sorry I wasn't clear, and thanks for all the assistance. It really ought not to be this difficult to put photos on a CD which you can then show to others on your TV instead of having them stand and line up behind your computer to watch.
What I tried to do was to select a group of photos from our recent trip and put those in a separate album in iPhoto. Then I tried copying that album to a new folder on the destop using Finder. Then I tried burning those pictures onto a CD-R. It went through the burn process with verification, but the CD disc did not eject itself at the end as it does when you burn a CD directly from iPhoto. So I'm not sure if the burn process completed itself properly or if I should have copied to "New Burn Folder" instead of "New Folder".
At any rate, I then manually ejected the disc, and took it to my CD player, which I bought specifically to play jpeg pictures
(and it has done so with other CD's which I burned directly from iPhoto --- but these come out with all 3 copies of each pictures and therefore require mulitple discs --- and that's the problem I'm trying to cope with and avoid by making a separate folder elsewhere). The CD player showed an error message onscreen which said the disc could not be read. I then tried to see if the Mac could read it and play the pictures, and the iMac couldn't read the disc either.
So back to square one: how do I successfully copy only the edited pictures that I select as being the "best" and avoid all the duplicates on the disc. In this case, I only wanted 110 pictures, and got 2 discs with 330 pictures by copying directly from iPhoto, but I'm not going to subject family to 330 pictures at a sitting.

  • Burned DVD from iphoto but pics are black

I burned a DVD from iphoto that contained a large file of pictures. Upon opening the disk I could see the pictures. However, after scrolling through a few of them, my iphoto became extremely slow and then the pictures would not come back. Instead of seeing a picture I see a black box with a dotted frame where the picture should be.
The DVD worked when I opened APSE and I edited my pictures that way.
But why is my iphoto not cooperating with a disc that was created with iphoto?
Is it because I created the disc using an older version of iphoto?

Has something to do with me renaming the rolls of film.

  • Desperately needs help burning DVD from iPhoto

I am using iPhoto 6.0.6. I desperately need help burning a DVD of a slide show that I created for my daughter's wedding.
I put several songs together by opening them and then combining them using QuickTime Pro. I imported the audio into iTunes and created a slide show using iPhoto. The slide show is perfect! The slides are finally in sink with the music just as I want them! But I don't know how to burn the slide show as a DVD.
I tried exporting the video from iPhoto to my computer, but at the end of the export, I get this message: please note that the music included in the slideshow can only be played on authorized machines. And when I try to play the video (after the export), most of the music on the video cannot be heard. When I try to authorize my machine, I am told that it's already authorized.
If someone would send detailed instructions on how to proceed, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Greg

Is your problem the DRM audio tracks you purchased from iTunes store?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. • How burn DVD from iPhoto in MacBook Pro

I am trying to burn photos to a DVD . I inserted blank DVD-R, selected the photos, and selected burn  from the Share drop down in iPhoto.  Nothing happens.

There a few ways, but the best instructions are in the Help menu in Finder. Type Burn a CD or DVD and it has all the options (I'm not trying to be sarcastic in pointing you at the Help menu, it's just the easiest way of showing you the options , honest).

  • Burning disc from iphoto includes faces

I burned a disc in iphoto 09 and when viewed it shows the original picture then shows close up of everyones face, can I stop iphoto from doing this?

When you burn disk using the Share -> Burn command iPhoto creates a mini-iPhoto Library on the disk. This is designed for sharing with other iPhoto users and backing up.
If you want a simple disk of jpegs to share with anyone: File -> Export nd export the pics to a folder on the desktop. Burn that with the Finder. Result: a disk full of your photos only.

  • Burning slideshows from IPhoto

I have assembled an album on IPhoto that I want to burn to a DVD disc. I have followed all the online help yet still find that I cannot achieve my goal. On the online help it states to click 'Share'  then 'burn' but the 'burn' option isn't accessible (dimmed). Can anyone help me?
    Many thanks.

It's a book that you're referring to. You should be able to get the Share ➙ iDVD menu to work if you've in the book mode. That will create a QT movie of the book and export to iDVD.
There's another way to get a book as a slideshow in an iDVD project:
1 - while in the All Pages mode of the book type Command+P to start a print job.
2- in the print window click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto" menu option.
3 - that will create a JPEG file for each page of the book and import them into iPhoto.
4 - select those files and use the Share ➙ iDVD menu option.
Now if the Share ➙ iDVD menu option is grayed out in all areas of iPhoto try this: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Burning pics from iPhoto

I just tried to burn a disk of photos from one of my iPhoto albums, seemed to work fine, then I put the disk back in the iBook G4 and all that was on the disk was blank squares. What happened. I have other albums that I have burned and they turned out just fine. Thanks for any help....Wendy

  • Burn DVD from iPhoto

    Using iDVD 7.0.4 & iPhoto 8.1.1.
Music :If I burn a DVD from an iPhoto Slideshow, will the music in the slideshow be on the DVD ?
Text Slide :I want to add one or two slides which just have some text on - probably - a black background, how can I do this ?

I like iPhoto for slideshows, and what I do is Share/Export the slideshow to full-quality, large Quicktime video, including the selected audio. This video file can be dropped into or imported into iDVD.
You can create a graphics file in Photoshop or other software and save it as a jpeg or similar format. This can be imported into iPhoto without any difficulty.

  • Burn DVD from IPhoto slideshow

I read an earlier discussion on this topic but it made the process of burning a DVD from an IPhoto slideshow (with ITunes music track) almost impossible. I did try bringing the show into IDVD but the "formatting" of the "shows" you can choose from aren't appealing. Is there an easy way to do this?

I found it easier to create and burn DVD slide shows from within iDVD, but before creating the slide show, I read the instructions provided by the iDVD "Help" menu. I don't remember the exact steps, but I remember dragging a folder with the pictures into the iDVD window first. I duplicated the folder and saved to the Desktop first, since I had to use Elements to enhance the photos before creating the slide show. By duplicating or creating a copy of the folder with the photos, I did not change iPhoto's folder structure.
You will find the instructions on iDVD's help, under "Getting Started," page 29. Preview will launch to show you all you need to know. However, since I could not copy and paste the text on Preview, I printed just page (29) with the instructions.

You may be better off cross-posting in one of the iPhoto Forums where the iPhoto users hang out.

  • How do I burn slideshow from iphoto to a dvd?

I am trying to burn a slideshow in iphoto directly to a dvd.  I exported it to idvd, but have never used idvd and can't figure it out and don't have time right now.  I just want to made a copy of a completed slideshow which exists in iphoto.  Doesn't seem it should be this hard, but since I'm short on time, everything seems hard.    Any help will be much appreciated!  Thanks.

Do you want play the sideshow on a TV set?  If so you need to use the Share ➙ iDVD menu option while in the slideshow mode.  That will open iDVD and add the movie as a Quicktime file to the iDVD project.
Then make what changes to the theme of the project and use the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.  This will create a disk image of the project.  Open the disk image and launch DVD Player to play the DVD.  If the disk image plays OK in DVD Player that's an indication that the encoding process was successful.
Next burn the disk image to disk using Disk Utility and burn at the slowest speed possible to ensure the best burn.  Also use good quality disks like Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R.  When you're done you'll be able to play the sideshow in any set top DVD player on a TV set.
If you just want a Quicktime movie version of your slideshow use the Export button at the bottom of the window and select size of the movie you want, usually medium or large.
Then you can drag the movie file onto an empty disk on the desktop to burn.  However, this method will require you to have a computer with Quicktime installed in order to play the slideshow.

  • Problems burning photos from iPhoto 5 to CD

I'm using iPhoto 5 on an Intel based G5 Mac running OS X 10.4.10 with 1.5Gb RAM. The photo library contains about 4,000+ photos. If I pick a group of them (say about 2 or 3 dozen) then drag and drop them onto the blank CD icon I get the following message: "The selected items cannot all be put into the same location, because at least one of them named 1234.jpg is busy".
This happens even if I attempt to copy them to a folder. I've tried deleting the offending jpg, but I just get the same message again for a different photo.
If anyone has a workaround or knows a solution, your help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks.

This happens if two of the files you're exporting have the same filename. So, use the 'Share -> Export' command and the resulting dialogue gives you various options including ways to rename the files.
