  • Burning Cancels -- Error 4280

I have reinstalled and updated my itunes, all of my songs are valid, I have disabled any conflicting startup processes, set my burn speed low, and verified accurate audio settings within itunes yet I am unable to burn an audio CD. At the beginning of each burn process, it cancels and reads error 4280. What do I do?

My iTune will not burn either. I checked the file format of the songs and discovered that they are downloading MPEG4 iTunes that are also locked (protected). I can not play them anywhere but in iTunes. Check if that is your problems too. Why I am getting MPEG4 instead of MP3? Figure that one.

    Hi Dilbert41
Turned off my firewall and tried but still didnt work. Rang Apple Care and went through about 10 things. Didnt resolve.
I then tried different media and a CDRW worked.
    I wasted 10 CD-Rs today
Not really sure if its a media problem as 2 CD-Rs out of the same batch worked yesterday.

  • Burning disks - error 2123

Suddenly we are unable to burn CD's on itunes. We get error message 2123: the attempt to burn a disc faild. An unknown error occurred.
I spent hours trying different solutions suggested by HP (we have a compaq) and nothing works!
Is there a solution to this problem?
Already tried: recovery of computer to an earlier date
    and re-installing itunes
When I installed the RecordNow program and ran it I was able to burn a CD so there's nothing wrong with the burner but we want to be able to use Itunes the way we always did.
    help!

OK. I finally realized that these are "Burn folders" and can simply be thrown in the trash.
Through some troubleshooting, I think I discovered what may be a bug in the OS though. Apparently if you have folders within folders and the top folder has a colored label applied, then DVD burner doesn't recognize it as a folder anymore when you make your burn folder. I don't know why the CD buring software would get confused by a simple folder label. You'd think Apple would have caught this!
I removed the colored label from the top folder and now it burns the CD just fine.
I wonder if anyone else has run across this issue.
    Laurie

    HI,
I take it you have actually checked that these contacts have Messages Enabled on their iPhones ?
I find I can SMS my wife's iPhone when I am not on Wifi at work.
However I don't get her replies back.
I have a Pay as You Go contract  and have Data turned Off as the Carrier even charges for Location Services.
I have a feeling that people not being on WiFi and not enabling SMS is part of the issue in these cases.

Having trouble burning discs, sometimes error 4280 comes up, anyone know?
sometimes it will say checking media, then it will do nothing!

Look around for more posts about this. There are TONS. I'm guessing you have upgraded to the newest Itunes. Which apparently makes you CD burning fail! Itunes needs to fix this problem but so far they haven't. I think there are little things that you can do to maybe fix it but I'm not sure so look around for other posts about this same kind of thing, anything along the lines of CD's not burning and error 4280. I wasted 5 CD's trying to get past this error thinking it was my CD's fault.

  • Encoding/Burn disc error

I have a handful of classic movies that I would like to backup. After the decoding from Handbrake, I get an m4v file of 1.76 GB. When I bring it into iDVD, the total is 7.64, 176 min.
The DVD type is set up for DL (7.7). I use Verbatim 8.5 GB.
Encoding is High Quality. Aspect Ratio is 4:3. Original is 16.9.
To keep the file smaller, I use an early non-animated theme.
The DVD burner is a Mac/iDVD compatible that I have used for awhile.
At the end of the encoding session, I keep getting encoding and burn disk errors.
I also tried to use a converted QT and cut segments to make a smaller file, but I lose the sound sync.
There are no red flags in the project info window.
IDVD 7.0.4, 50 GB to spare.
    What am I doing wrong?

    try this...
Thank you for your responses guys!
This is how I managed to fix the problem...and I hope this helps others in the similar situation.
I tried with another program..latest version of Nero, and this was also stopping at the 'initialising' stage. I was now lost! I thought the last resort is to give Evesham (My PC manufacturer) a buzz. They were very helpfull. Basically go into 'Control Panel', 'System', and click on the Hardware tab, then 'Device Manager'. Uninstall everything in the DVD/CDRom Drives. Then uninstall everything under the catagory IDE ATA/Atapi disk controllers. This is where my problem was, as I only had one IDE channel here. You should have 4 or 5! Reboot your machine, and everything will automatically re-load. I tried burning using Nero and it worked. Then the big test was iTunes. It worked 1st time!
I asked why the IDE channels have dissappearred, and he said sometimes uninstalling Programmes occasionally removes them.
I hope this will help others who are having problems to burn stuff on iTunes. I can give more info if you need it.

  • Error 4280 for Matshita UJ-831Da - Burn no longer works w/  iTunes.

    23 Dec 07
    MY SYSTEM:
    Sony laptop
    CD/DVD drv = Matshita UJ-831Da
    iTunes ver. 7.5.0.20
    PROBLEM:
    1. Burn quit working when iTunes upgraded to 7.2.
    2. I now get Error 4280.
    3. The only change was an upgrade to iTunes.
    4. No other software, or OS, changed on the system.
    5. Burn always worked with old ver. of iTunes.
    6. Burn still works with Win Media Player.
    7. Burn still works with all other software.
    8. iTunes will not upgrade itself now, nor allow "down"grade.
    9. Slowing burn speed does not eliminate error 4280.
    10. "Run Diagnostics" causes whole system to freeze and crash.
    11. Creating new account on system does not eliminate error 4280
    12. Creating new account on system does not eliminate freeze / crash.
    13. I have credit with iTunes store that cannot be used until fixed.
    QUESTION:
This is an Apple iTunes ONLY software problem. What is the fix?
    Thanks,

For my Matshita UJ-831Da CD/DVD drive, the driver version showing in device manager is 5.1.2535.0. I just now clicked on "update driver" and the reply was that a newer version could not be found.
But why would doing a "Run Diagnostics" in iTunes now freeze / crash my whole system when it never did before? It only began doing that after it also began failing to burn CDs. Again, the iTunes software is the only software that has ceased to burn CDs.
Several months ago, I finally reached by phone a girl at Apple tech support who first denied there were any known problems. But when I told her that the web was full of thousands of people screaming about this very issue she recanted and admitted that iTunes was having these problems, that they had posted the fix for some of the other CD/DVD drives but not mine. She then said, "but if you pay $35 I'll tell you how to fix it." Absolutely unethical. That's like buying a car then being told that there's now an extra fee for being told how to start it. She may have lied about knowing what the fix is, but either way it's absolutely unethical.
The problem is iTunes. iTunes changed and now won't drive the same current drive it worked with when iTunes accepted my money, in advance, to purchase and burn music at future dates. iTunes should fix the problem.
I'm willing to go through the leg-work, to try all of Apple's instructions here, but Apple also needs to follow through with this.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Error 4280 when trying to burn a CD...but not all the time

    Hi,
I hope someone can help me.
I have never had issues before but in the last few days it has been HORRIBLE.
I have brand new CDs to burn to and sometimes I get an error to insert a blank disc(how can it not be it is brand new)
Other times I try to burn a disc and get:
"the attempt to burn a disc failed an unknown error occured(4280)
I have deauthorized and reauthorized my PC. Some of the songs I am burning are ones I loaded from a CD that I had burned one before with NO problems.
I have wasted at least 10 CDs in the last few days trying to get this to work.
I have checked EVERYWHERE for a list of Error Code numbers but I can find it anywhere.
It will check playlist then start to "write" a song and it stops.
ANY help would be appreciated I am seriously losing my mind!!
I made sure I had the latest version of ITunes and upgraded last night to be sure and I am the admin on my PC and I am the only one that uses it.
I was able to burn one this AM and then the next one the errors happened again.
I have seen a lot of fixes that ask if my drive is
    Sony CD-RW/DVD CRX830E model drive
It is not when I did the diagnostic to figure out my drive I get this(and I have tried burning as low as 4X
The last failed audio CD burn had error code 4280(0x000010b8). It happened on drive F: PHILIPS CDD4851 CD-R/RW on CDR media at speed 8X.
Is there ANYONE that can help or at least point me in the correct direction
    Thank you

I've done a little bit of searching on google and had no idea that this problem has been happening for YEARS... The ONLY solution I saw was for this Sony Driver, which i'm sure everyone here already seen... I haven't had any problem burning until iTunes 8.0...
Anyway, I tried that (Sony Drive), even tried the RegCure (whatever) but it wasn't exactly "Free", so that was a dead end... I even tried lower burning speeds...still nothing... As you know, I have two discs left to burn for a friend...
I just gave up on iTunes and burned it with my Windows Media Player... Just lucky for me, I burn all my purchases from iTunes to an Audio CD in case something happens to my CPU (also so I can import to my Xbox 360)... And once I do that, I re-import them so I can listen to the albums on my WMP...
But as I was saying, I just used my WMP to burn the album that wouldn't burn in iTunes... After everything burned fine, I went back to iTunes for the other disc and suprise, suprise...it burned without any problem... WTH, right?¿?
It may have something to do with the discs i'm using... Because I inserted a Maxell Pro discs to "test" the burn out in iTunes... It burned without a hitch (before I used the above method) but because of this, I only let it burn for 5 seconds; because it usually cancels out in 3 from the error... I was only trying to test the burn, and was surprised that it started burning... It was a better quality discs and I didn't want to burn the album that I was testing on it... I tried to cancel but 5 seconds was too long...ruined the disc.. lol
So for clarity the disc i'm getting the error with is a Memorex disc... And its possible that they are to cheap...which was pointed out during my research online... But the problem with that theory is, I already burned 12 discs using those Memorex discs; so why NOW do I constantly get the error?¿? I couldn't be, totally the fault of disc quality...but then again who knows...
All I know is, as of now...I was able to burn another CD on iTunes after burning 1 from WMP first... Since I don't have anything else to burn (or that I want to) at the moment; as far as I know, i'm just waiting to get the error again... Which from my history could be 4-6 more disc down the line...
Another possibility could be that I actually burned the CD when I had WMP open... Maybe iTunes burning needs a "crutch" to be free from the error and after you burn one; you can burn a few CD's without worry of the error...
Sorry to be throwing so many "theories" out there, but having something to work on, is better than nothing... Once I have other CD's to burn, i'll come back with an update and tell you how many burns I got with iTunes before I got the error again...
    Disclaimer:
This is just my experience... I realize that many people have tried all sorts of CD-R discs and different burning software/hardware/whatever and they still get an 4280 error... I'm not trying to create false hope, as i've seen being pointed out from frustrated users...
So to summarize, individual results may vary... :P
