  • Burning DVD-R Problem

Recently I decided to save some larger files on a DVD-R. Aftering burning, I'll click on the disque to make sure the file burned. The file would open without problems. However, if I eject the disque, then re-insert it, it won't read. Just eventually eject. So far, I've run through three DVD-R's. I've plugged in a regular pre-recorded DVD, which opened fine. And I've never had any problems burning CD's.
Is there some burning setting I'm missing? I think it's been set on the fastest. Or is it the DVD-R brand, picked up at Radio Shack?
    Brand: Philips DVD-R 1-16X speed, 4.7 GB

    Welcome to the discussions.
There are a few things to remember, when burning DVD's
It is a good practice, DO NOT use or have other APPlications Running while Burning a DVD Project. NO Browsing the Internet, or other Programs Open and Running.
Apple's Burning Software is funtional to a point.
If you are a serious DVD burner, Use one of Roxio's Software. Toast-7 or Popcorn.
Burning DVD's is very RAM Intensive. 512 will work but not to optimum preformance. Where Ram is concerned MORE IS ALWAYS BETTER.
Depending on the exact burner Apple has placed in your computer it looks like your burner will only burn at 1X or 2X tops. This will take 2 to 4 hours at this speed. Reading, Writing, and Verifing is time consuming.
Last but not least the Quality of the Media you use can also play a huge role in your ability to burn a pristine copy of any project.
    I recommend DVD-R Media.
There is a big difference in the Speed you use as well.
Read the packaging and make sure the media you use will read and write
1X,2X,4X,8X,16X. The newer Good Quality Media will give you these options. I personally use ( Maxell 16X DVD-R)
Only the Newest Burners will burn at the higher speeds like 8X.

  • Burned DVD issues in DVD player not reading or music issues stop and start

I'm a PC converted to a MAC (less than a month) and love it so far. I have been able to create and burn a DVD. The problem I'm having is one DVD player will not read the DVD (Hitachi). The other DVD player will play it, but the music stops and starts when it transitions (twirl) to another picture (Panasonic DVD/VHS combo). I'm using a DVD R Memorex. Neither one of the player are new. Would love to use this to make the Grandparent's a DVD of the grandchildren from birth to present as Christmas present. What do I need to use or do to be able to watch on any DVD player as well as the computers?

    Hi me01
Welcome to apple discussions. Try using 99 photos / less to avoid issues with audio fades / drops. Also do a search for Memorex on this forum and you'll see it's not the first choice of dvd's for most users. Instead try Verbatim, Maxell, or Taiyo Yuden and burn at 4x from a disc image for best results. Wish you luck and feel free to post back with results or any further questions.

  • DRM & Burned DVD's Problems

    Hello,
I have burned iTunes purchased video's to a DVD. It will not play on my DVD player but will on my iTunes.
I suspect that DRM is causing this issue. I have tried this before with my media player and hard drive and that is how I came accross DRM.
My question is: is there a method to remove or prevent the addition of DRM to iTunes bought video?
I have looked into DRM removal software, I found it to be much to tedious because of the constant ad bombardment and the amount of time it takes to rip the files and "un-DRM" them.
My apologies if this question has been previously answered for I am new to the forums.
    Cheers

    Hi Guys,
Sorry to hijack this topic but it seemed like the quickest way to get my question to you as you will obviously know the answer
I have some .MOV video files (I think this is the quicktime extension used by iTunes as well?) these are home movies (holiday) taken on a mini camcorder type device. Anyway I want to burn them to a DVD that is playable on a DVD player (not a PC or playstation) so I can share them with some (very non techie) relatives.
Can I do this in iTunes? There are obviously not DRM issues.
When I try to do this I can't see how to change the disc format from CD to DVD, but from this thread (and others) it appears that I can;t do it in iTunes anyway??
If it can't be done in iTunes please can you recommend a cheap and easy way to do it? I have tried using various free download files converters to covert the .MOV files to .AVI and .WMV files and burning them using Power DVD Director but I end up without the audio!
I have spent most of today on this and getting very fed up now I cannot believe how hard this is putting my own holiday videos onto DVD!
Thanks in advance and sorry again if I breached any forum protocols by not starting a new thread.

  • Burned DVD issues

This has been getting on my nerves for the longest time. The superdrive in my Powerbook G4 will ONLY play DVD-Rs by one brand: Teon. Not Sony, not Mitsubishi, not anything else.
Other people have Powerbook G4's, and the very same discs that don't work for me... they work perfectly fine for everyone else.
AND, to add to the saga, I THOUGHT that I had found a new brand that works for me, but it turns out that the DVD-R brand in question only works when copied from a computer and not a DVD duplicator.
What the heck is going on? Anyone know?
Should the DVD player be this finnicky? I've checked for appropriate updates on the apple webpage, and there's nothing I need there.
The computer doesn't even read them. It takes it in, spins for a few seconds, and then spits it out (Teon brand DVD-R's excluded, of course).
    AHHH!
    buikasavsdbkjdsfksdjabfa <~~(slammed head onto keyboard)
    --Alan

Hi, papacheesy. See the first paragraph of my reply in this thread. Are all the discs you've tried rated for only 1x or 2x burn speed? How about the Teon discs: what speed are they rated for? And what speed(s) have the various disks actually been burned at?

  • Burning dvd issue

so I feel pretty dumb. I have tried EVERYTHING it seems to burn a dvd for my son. I tried to convert the file through isquint and tv format and then burn through the finder "burn new playlist" and then push burn, and it writes it to the disk. My mom got me the disks, Dynex dvd-r. And when I burned it, tried to play it in my sons dvd player, i get a disk error.
I don't have toast, what else am I doing wrong? lol

I have never used iSquint but isn't that for converting videos to iPod format?
To me, Toast Platinum is the best solution. In the long run it saves time and is much cheaper than creating coasters
You can DL Toast online for immediate use, and they also ship the CD for backup, etc.
Converting formats and then creating playable videos for DVD players is a very complex process. Toast does it all and has never failed me.

  • Superdrive replaced, DVD-DL problem still exists (sorta)

I have a Mac Pro 2 x 2.66 ghz Intel Xeon - the machine shipped with a SONY superdrive up top, and I installed a Pioneer in the bottom slot.
The SONY drive was able to burn dual layer DVDs - I am using Memorex DVD+DL disks. The SONY drive was NOT able to read the DVD dual layer disks that I burned.
The disks are readable in all other machines in my house (All Macs)
I called Apple, they said this is a known issue, and I needed to swap out my superdrive. I just picked it up from the Apple store and it now has an OPTIARC AD 7170A drive, which I believe is a SONY as well.
I just tried burning a dual layer DVD with the newly replaced drive, and it worked fine the first time, however the verification failed. The 2nd dual layer DVD I tried to burn just plain failed - MEDIUM ERROR.
The drive CAN burn dual layer DVDs, but it CANNOT read them. The drive can read and burn DVDs no problem.
Why on earth would the brand new drive fail to read the dual layer DVDs, but everything else reads just fine???

I had very similar problems with the Sony OPTIARC drive in my 2007 Mac Pro (Intel Xeon, 10.4.11).
I found others having the same problems here with the OPTIARC and some said it was 2nd-rate quality. Also - I never liked the noise it made while burning, sounded "cheap."
I got the Samsung Internal DVD/CD 'Super-MultiDrive' DVD DL/CD w/LightScribe. From macsales.com ($29.95 USD). This unit requires you install Patch Burn (software) but runs fine, no more "coasters" from any format DVD, including DVD-R DL (but never tried DVD+R DL). After testing, bought a 2nd one for the lower bay.
The Samsung unit comes with a plastic front (bezel) which must be removed to fit properly. This is easy & quick: illustrated instructions on the macsales.com website.
I wanted the Lightscribe labeling system: no fuss & bother with design / printing labels. Burn DVD, flip it over, launch Lightscribe, enter text in"Edit mode" - click "Print" and 3-4 minutes later your DVD is labeled.
I do wish I could find a way to get both drives working at once (i.e., labeling two DVDs at once, burning two at once). Otherwise: completely satisfied.

  • Having Major issues trying to burn DVD's.

I did not have any issues this past week burning DVD's for family members. I decided to put it on hold for a few more days to make our holiday travel trip to DE. I arrived, opened the program, began the burning process (which by the way took close to 4 1/2 almost 5 hours) and when I thought it was finally completed...an error message appeared about a multiplexer.
After reviewing previous issues with others having the same problem, they said to check the hard drive and or the monolingual setting, etc. Possibly would help to remove some unwanted or unnecessary items.
Would this really resolve my problem?
How would I access the Hard Drive and or Monolingual settings to do so?
I'm by no means a computer guru, but do know how to access a few things.
Also, I believe my DVD+RW has plenty of space, considering the content was just burned on a few DVD's earlier just last week. It holds approximately 120 minutes/4.7GB...and the movie itself is only 60 minutes long with 2.4 GB of the DVD being used.
PLEASE HELP! This DVD is a very important tribute for my family, due to my recent Grandfather's sudden death!
    Thank You!

I think you can solve your problem very simply.
Change your Media to Maxell 16X DVD-R Not +RW
If I am right your particular Optical Drive doesn't like + or RW not to mention if you have 10.0
Check the packaging of the Maxell 16X DVD-R and make sure it says it reads and writes 1X-2X-4X-8X and 16X
Repair Permissions in the disk utility, then my quess is your problems will go away.

  • Burning DVD problem with DVD media

    Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me. I bought a Mac Mini and tried now to burn DVDs, with no success.
I used R- (Bulkpaq 4 X) and also Datawrite (R-, 4X), which I used in the past with my LiteOn external writer.
Unfortunate, both DVDs are not correctly recognized by the drive. Finder, Dragon Burn and Burnz writing to the DVD with 2X (instead of 4X). However this prevents that the dics are readable after burning.
I’m wondering if this is a drive or media problem and if anyone else had the same problem. If a media problem, than any recommendation what kind of media to use would be helpful.
    yours frank

To rule out media issues I would recommend that you try either Verbatim or Apple branded media. Unfortunately DVD drives that are designed for laptops, which the mini has, tend to be a bit more finicky with the media you use.

  • Problem burning DVD's after update 10.5.6

I regularly burn DVD's on my mac, never encountered any problems. I did the update to 10.5.6 this morning, re-started, then proceeded to burn a DVD. I get an error message saying "Could not record the disc because of a Mac OS Error. Result Code= -18768"
Has anyone else experienced burning issues after applying apple's latest update?
I'm using both Toast Titanium, and Popcorn, and both give similar error messages now.

I have similar problem arose recently. I possibly have a bad firewire connection too, since new - sometimes the disc would mount, sometimes not. However, recently it has become increasingly difficult to burn any disc. So I ugraded to 10.5.6. Now I most often get a number of messages from 'connection unstable' to 'bus device reset occurred'. I installed Toast 9.4 recently replacing Toast 8, and did not restart from the install, and hey-presto, all was resolved. Everything working without any problems. Then I had to restart due to a freeze from an external HD, and suddenly Toast no longer burns. It goes through all the right steps and completes the burn, but the disc is untouched. Thought it was Toast 9 so got Toast 10 - and still nothing! Back to 'connection unstable' and no burning. I tried Burn from the Finder - but same message. I work wiht photos and this is VERY bad for my work. Disc's are the way to store and present archived images. Any help appreciated. Apple Tech has said its my drive and I need to replace it. Could this be the answer? Thanks for any help.

  • Audio Sync issue after burning DVD

This is a strange one. I have a DVD made up of several videos of various length. One 15 minutes, One 7 minutes, and the rest under 5 minutes & 17 seconds. The problem is that the two longer ones are out of sync on the burned DVD (and even the build playing in VLC) even though they are fine throughout the rest of the process (FCP, DVDSP timeline, & DVDSP simulation). The rest of the videos are also just fine. I have no idea what to do about it.

They were all encoded in compressor and all are about 7.6 Mb/s. The thing is, only 2 of 14 have the issue. Granted, they are the 2 longest, but not by that much. And it is out of sync for the entire program, it doesn't gradually get out of sync. Also, opening the Video_TS folder (on the computer, not the disk) in VLC shows the same problem, so its not the player, the disk media, or even the burning process. It's somewhere in the "build" process. I will try a lower data rate for those two, but it should be fine for less than an hour of material.

  • I was having problems burning DVDs' fro iDVD and it turned out my burner is at fault I have a 27 inch iMac using a OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H. Where can I buy a replacement in UK?

I was having problems burning DVDs' from iDVD and it turned out my burner is at fault.
I have a 27 inch iMac using a OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5680H. Where can I buy a replacement in UK? I have seen these with SATA is this the correct cable for my mac?
I have also tried the Mac superdrive but my imac wont recognise it as it's been configured for macbook air and mini mac. I know I can "make" it work by doing something or other in com.apple/plist, but dont want to mess about in there.
I'm also told an external drive would work but does "mac compatible" mean only for air and mini as their own superdrive is or all macs?
Any help appreciated before I convince myself mac is no better than windows pc!

Thanks but this didn't really help.
I can buy the drives at a dozen places but none of them seem to know what connection is correct (SATA etc) and that includes the apple store. It was the store who told me buy the superdrive and all my problems would be over. Wrong! It isn't recognised by imac as it's confifured for air and mini mac. Only way to make it work is as i said in earlier post. (Would you be happy buying a car you were told would start and then discover you have to open the bottome and fiddle to make it go?)
The apple store I would not even consider taking it to. Days without the pc, over priced and don't have a good reputation for actually fixing things!
    But thanks

  • I have a Power Mac G4. I have previously burned DVDs with no problem.  Now I get an error message stating it doesn't recognize the disc and an error

I have a Power Mac G4 with OX 10.4.11.  I have previously burned DVDs with no problem.  Now I've gotten two different sets of messages.  One states that
the disc is not readable and an error code: 0x8002006D.  The more recent message states the disc is incompatible and an error code: 0x80020025.
What is going on?  I need to burn discs immediately for a conference next week.

"The more recent message states the disc is incompatible and an error code: 0x80020025."
The error (0x80020025) refers to an unsupported drive (not disk).  I've read about relaunching the Finder to correct the problem.  Choose "Force Quit" from the Apple Menu and then choose "Finder." Click "Relaunch" and see if the drive still produces the error.  If there's no change, I'd be tempted to replace the drive.

  • Quality Issues Burning DVD's

I am new to iDVD and iMovie.
I am hoping to be able to burn a DVD that will play on a
standard DVD player hooked up to a TV.
I made a 4 minute movie in iMovie,
    then onto iDVD...
    Saved movie to HDD
Burned DVDs via disk utility (one at all 3 speeds)
    Used high quality DVDs.
    The DVDs I created...
only the 4x would play on my standard DVD.
It plays in black and white, not color.
    It stops and starts frequently.
Do I have any other options on my Mac?
Should I copy the movie to miniDV and take it to
    a company that burns DVD's?
Any advice would be very much appreciated.
I posted this question in the iMovie forum as well...
    Thanks in advance,
    Kell

What kind of media are you using? Are you using Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R and burning from a disc image at 4x or slower?
Use Roxio Toast or apple's Disc Utilities to lower the burn speed. If your DVD or iMovie has B&W issues where it's not supposed to, then you have a shaky connection / loose cable somewhere. Check all connections (make sure all is snug).

  • Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.

Problem with iDVD - cannot burn DVD.
Self has a MacBook Pro, which al new software.
My problem is, when my burn a slideshow, prop process ever before burning.
Box show: Multiflexing and burning: write Lead-in, then the process stops and ejects the disc.
I have burn a Movie test – no problems.
    Self use Verbatim DVD-R
Who can help - what should I do?

How did you create the slideshow and get it in iDVD?
As a general comment try following this workflow to separate the encoding and burning processes:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
